We went for wing night, the service started off slow but once we got a server it was no problem. The server rang in the wrong wings and just gave us the extra 6, that was nice. I've been going here a couple times a month for the last 13 years or so. I don't what happened with employees but it has taken a nosedive. There were two female bartenders there when I arrived. One had no personality at all, simply looking at us instead of asking what we'd like to drink. The other waited on us most of the time we were there. She was incapable of saying a sentence without saying "f**k" several times. Even while she talked on the phone (loudly) it was an endless stream of expletives. I understand this is a bar, but I used to sometimes see families there eating. I can't imagine having any family there and listening to the foul language of an employee. Although the food was good, I won't be going back if these two are tending bar. read more

This place is a great to bring a family to! I wanted to find a place for lunch and I had a group of 9. The service was lovely and all the family felt welcomed and everything was brought in a timely manner, even when they had a cook transition out( which they let us know). Excellent sandwich. I had a "cuban ruben," a cheese based vegetarian rubin sandwich. The bread was delicious and fresh and the sandwich itself was tasty. I was staying in a hotel nearby and needed something quick and close. I thought it would be average but it was delicious. They said pickles can be added on the side which I did. I thought I'd get a pickle spear but it was two thick but small pickle chips. I put them on the sandwich. It was fine but I thought I'd get a bigger pickle slice. But the sandwich was still excellent and I'm delighted I found the place. read more

Best sandwiches around! That thick-sliced Mancini's bread completes them. You can order a half of these, too. My favorite is the Pittsburgh Steak which is sliced baloney, egg and cheese. Seriously good! Everything else I've had there has been very good. The staff is great, which only adds to the experience. The food was delivered and the sandwiches are large. Enough for 2 lunches for me when you get the whole. Service was so friendly. Our waitress was wonderful. Fairly typical bar atmosphere, tho not at all noisy for lunch, which was nice. Our second time at Alexion's! You could live in the area and easily miss this institution of Carnegie and Crafton because of its location. Opened since 1953 the menu features excellent, traditional bar food and daily specials. We went on a Friday night at 5:20 and got one of the last tables. Seat yourself and the wait staff takes turns waiting on you. Quick drink and food service, friendly staff. Very much a hole in the wall, classic neighborhood bar feel. We both got fall seasonal cocktails (apple cider Marg pictured) which were both good! We got the 16" pizza special for Friday night and 12 wings. Wings were good but could have been crispier. Great pizza! It's clear why this is a neighborhood place of 70 years. We'll be back! read more

We absolutely love Alexion's! It's only a few minutes from our house and is a local bar with delicious wings, great prices and outstanding service. It's a louder environment, small, with tv's, music. The staff is so friendly! We enjoy Thursday wing nights, and usually have to wait maybe 15 minutes for a table! They have a covered outdoor area too, I think it's smoking though . read more

I would have given them a five star rating but I was upset withe the gal behind the bar around 5:30 pm who purposely didn't wait on me and bring me another drink after I finished my first one. She didn't like the fact that I told my sister that she didn't have to buy three people drinks just because they moved down one seat so that we could sit at the bar. The barmaid over heard me say that and she didn't like it so I paid the price for not getting another drink until she served everyone else. I ordered a coke when she finally got to me. The food here was great, the atmosphere isn't upscale by any means and parking was tight tonight. I've been here many times and knew what to expect. I had my sister with me who I just picked up at the airport from Phoenix. We had just left our sister after visiting her in the hospital and I wasn't in the mood for any petty attitudes. We ate there and left. We went to Manny's next door and had a few drinks there as we discussed our sisters situation. We won't go back to Alexion's though the food is very good and the prices are very affordable. Give it a try. read more

Came in for dinner on Sunday and the place was pretty busy. There was a Pens game on and several tvs were showing the game and the surround sound was playing the game, as well. The staff were super friendly and quick to take our order. Two women were both bartending and serving the tables, but we never had dirty dishes or empty glasses for long. The pepperoni rolls were our favorite. We also had a 16" pizza with extra cheese and half sausage & bacon. The pizza was ok! I'd say 7.5/10. The sauce had great flavor. My brother had the special chicken sandwich, parmesan style. He said the flavors were great, but he wasn't a huge fan of the bread. It wasn't toasted and after a few bites, it was totally soggy. There are two 1-person bathrooms and they were both clean, smelled like strawberries (lol), and were stocked with soap and paper towels. read more

Great place for a quick weekday lunch! The daily sandwich specials have great values, you can choose half or full sandwich (I do half and it's huge!), with chips, pickle on side, and another side of your choice (salad, coleslaw or fries). I had the roasted beef and cheese today, it's the Thursday special, unfortunately my picture can not justify how many roasted beef it contains between the huge white breads, there are two slices of cheese (provolone, Swiss or American on your choice). It's delicious and fulfilling! It's not that busy during noon but it took a while for the food to be out. But overall great value and taste, recommend. read more

I came here for dinner one evening and really had no idea what I wanted to order, but I sat at the bar with a view of the lady in the back making pizzas and pepperoni rolls and got in the mood for pepperoni rolls. But I saw that they had gravy as a side for their fries and tried those too. The fries were crispy, very fresh, piping hot, and tasty! They needed salt and since I was using their gravy, I used black pepper too and they came out great! The pepperoni rolls were EXCELLENT! Best I've ever had! The dough was perfectly lite and flakey and there was an abundance of pepperoni in them and the sauce inside them was excellent! The dipping sauce they came with was nice, but was better inside the rolls than as a dipping sauce, as it was too thin. Service was excellent too... the two ladies running the bar were friendly and helpful. I'd definitely come back! read more

I recently made my first visit to Alexions on a Friday night. I arrived during happy hour. The bar was filled as were the majority of the booths by the bar. I was able to get a table and a waitress quickly came to take a drink order. The draft beer is extremely cold! Taps seem clean as the beer was tasty. I had the garlic butter wings and fresh cut fries. Wings were good and the fries were excellent. I continued to watch the huge sandwiches get served as I'm already planning my next trip. This is definitely a place for locals however my waitress was friendly and efficient. Bar was very clean, food was tasty and came out in a reasonable ticket time. I would definitely return. I feel awful because all the reviews were so great and I really wanted to love it but...first, let me say-the servers were AWESOME-very friendly and attentive. It's a pretty nice bar and seems to have great clientele. We ordered a few different things-mine being the Italian Wedge. Although the lettuce, tomatoes and onions were very fresh-the sandwich itself was underwhelming. I think a fresh, home made Italian dressing would have boosted the flavor of this immensely. The bottled stuff just doesn't cut it. Really, making home made Italian and ranch dressing is not hard or time consuming and so worth the effort. My friend got the Pittsburgh steak sandwich-the bread was very fresh and tasty-the bologna would be much more flavorful if it were fried more. Stupid thing but I'm going to mention it anyway-full size straws in the soft drinks would be so much better than sucking a coke through a coffee stirrer straw. The fresh cut fries were good enough but sadly this was nothing that made me want to come back for more. Maybe it was an off night or maybe a different cook than usual. I may try once more because the people were the best part. I will update if and when I return but I do wish Alexion's the best. Again, I'm sorry. read more

Great local spot for bar food favorites, good beer, and comfortable atmosphere. When you walk in, you're greeted by the cheerful bartender and sound of happy chatter of good friends all around. Staff knows their regulars and regulars know each other. It's a local hangout spot, but they also welcome newcomers. We even had a short conversation with the table next to us about sports that they initiated. The menu is surprisingly full of options; from pizza and wings, to sandwiches and burgers, to salads. I ordered the steak calzone and it was great! It was absolutely packed full of steak, green peppers, cheese, onion, and hot peppers. Really filled me up, especially with the size of the calzone that was big enough to be split into 2 meals. Also ordered a side of Cajun Buffalo wings. They were average tasting. On the small side and the sauce tasted mainly like Frank's hot sauce with a sprinkle of Cajun spices on top. Prices are cheap too. Overall a good experience and fun spot read more

It was a cold Friday Night. The small parking lot was full of cars playing a game of mechanical twister. Cars were coming and going in the dark. My buddy and I get out of the vehicle. It is relatively quiet. As we walk to the door, it is like another world. The bar is wall-to-wall people. We find a spot at the bar where two people vacated. (Okay - enough with the crime novel - no crime, just great food/atmosphere) We sat at the bar - the place was packed. My buddy came from out of town, and I wanted to take him to a traditional Pittsburgh Neighborhood Bar. He was looking for a burger. I decided I wanted to try their bar pizza tonight. You know a place is good when they run out of some items toward the end of the night. My buddy got his burger and fries. They offer sauces for your fries. He decided to get gravy on the side. I got the bar pie. It was good,, but I should have gone with the bartender's recommendation. Fried Bologna Sandwich. (Next Time). I have had many items on the menu and they are excellent. (Portions are big, but that is to be expected in Pittsburgh). What makes this place special are the staff. Parking was tight, and the food was excellent. Not sure if we caught them on a bad night or what, but we had a less-than-stellar meal at this low-key neighborhood bar. After a ,ong day of moving our daughter in to her new college apartment, we needed a quick and casual dinner someplace near our hotel. I scoured Yelp for recommendations and this spot popped to the top of the list. We sat at a booth table in the bar area and settled in with our beer and cider orders. Server was a nice kid and he took good care of us along with others from the staff who chipped in as needed. The vibe there is very "local" where the servers seemed to know everyone who came through the door (except us! ha!) and folks appeared to be having a good time. On to the meal review, however. We ordered a house salad, a burger to share and an order of wings. The salad was chopped lettuce, carrots and cabbage and was clearly from a bag. Nothing special to say the least. Our standard cheeseburger was most likely frozen and thrown on a grill given its shape and how it was cooked, but it was served atop a terrible, chewy bun straight out of a bag. The saving grace to the meal were the buffalo garlic parmesan wings, which we found pretty decent with a mild tangy flavor from the sauce and parm cheese combined. Wish there was more to say about this place...although the atmosphere was chill, the food left a lot to be desired. read more

Alexion's is a great little place with really good food. I love their chicken salad sandwich, which is saying alot since I don't really love chicken salad period. My coworkers always get their Italian wedgie and their Reuben is great too. I do wish they could make changes a little easier but they've always been accommodating... it just shows up a little weird on billing but ends up working out. The place does have a smoking section out on the patio so I'd recommend inside if you don't like the smoke. There's also an upstairs which I had no idea about until recently! What really matters is that the food is always consistently good and the service is almost always good. We've only had bad service once which is saying alot considering the amount of times we've been there. read more

We sat in a booth as soon as we arrived. Our server arrived right away with menus. She was super helpful with beer selection. She brought us several samples so we could make a tasty choice. For dinner , I knew that I wanted the steak salad with fries (you can't get fries in your salad in NC). My husband had the nights special which was a steak sandwich and fries. We randomly stumbled across this place and it doesn't look like much on the outside but the reviews I read seemed promising so we decided to just see what happened. They were super busy but only had one person working the bar/tables. However, she was very on top of things and worked quickly so no complaints here. The atmosphere has a very "local bar" feel which I love. I ended up getting their 'wedgie' which is a sandwich made with pizza dough. It was super good. I had more of a chicken sandwich and I think opting for something with more flavor such as salami would have paired nicer with the dough. So, I am going to opt for that next time! Great food, beer on tap, service, and price. We plan on going back soon when we just need a place to kick up and enjoy some solid food. read more
