Our second time at Alexion's! You could live in the area and easily miss this institution of Carnegie and Crafton because of its location. Opened since 1953 the menu features excellent, traditional bar food and daily specials. We went on a Friday night at 5:20 and got one of the last tables. Seat yourself and the wait staff takes turns waiting on you. Quick drink and food service, friendly staff. Very much a hole in the wall, classic neighborhood bar feel. We both got fall seasonal cocktails (apple cider Marg pictured) which were both good! We got the 16" pizza special for Friday night and 12 wings. Wings were good but could have been crispier. Great pizza! It's clear why this is a neighborhood place of 70 years. We'll be back!

Breaded Chicken Sandwich

Came in for dinner on Sunday and the place was pretty busy. There was a Pens game on and several tvs were showing the game and the surround sound was playing the game, as well. The staff were super friendly and quick to take our order. Two women were both bartending and serving the tables, but we never had dirty dishes or empty glasses for long. The pepperoni rolls were our favorite. We also had a 16" pizza with extra cheese and half sausage & bacon. The pizza was ok! I'd say 7.5/10. The sauce had great flavor. My brother had the special chicken sandwich, parmesan style. He said the flavors were great, but he wasn't a huge fan of the bread. It wasn't toasted and after a few bites, it was totally soggy. There are two 1-person bathrooms and they were both clean, smelled like strawberries (lol), and were stocked with soap and paper towels.

Great place for a quick weekday lunch! The daily sandwich specials have great values, you can choose half or full sandwich (I do half and it's huge!), with chips, pickle on side, and another side of your choice (salad, coleslaw or fries). I had the roasted beef and cheese today, it's the Thursday special, unfortunately my picture can not justify how many roasted beef it contains between the huge white breads, there are two slices of cheese (provolone, Swiss or American on your choice). It's delicious and fulfilling! It's not that busy during noon but it took a while for the food to be out. But overall great value and taste, recommend.

Small Fries with a side of gravy

I came here for dinner one evening and really had no idea what I wanted to order, but I sat at the bar with a view of the lady in the back making pizzas and pepperoni rolls and got in the mood for pepperoni rolls. But I saw that they had gravy as a side for their fries and tried those too. The fries were crispy, very fresh, piping hot, and tasty! They needed salt and since I was using their gravy, I used black pepper too and they came out great! The pepperoni rolls were EXCELLENT! Best I've ever had! The dough was perfectly lite and flakey and there was an abundance of pepperoni in them and the sauce inside them was excellent! The dipping sauce they came with was nice, but was better inside the rolls than as a dipping sauce, as it was too thin. Service was excellent too... the two ladies running the bar were friendly and helpful. I'd definitely come back!

The atmosphere was friendly. The servers were attentive, and the food was delicious. You seat yourself when you walk in, but we had a server come over within a couple of minutes. They have a back screened in room to eat outside, but we stayed in. They took our order and it did not take long for them to prepare. We went twice while visiting the area.

Great food, awesome service, and relaxing ambiance. Tucked away on a side street off Noblestown Road in Carnegie, Alexion's is a gem!

Highly recommend this place and highly recommend getting there early! Limited seating in this…read moretrendy gluten free friendly bar/lounge. They do not take reservations and we joked about there being a line. Well, when we showed up 10 minutes before opening, there was indeed a line. However, we went on Valentine's Day to one of the only GF places in the city, so that was to be expected. They were able to accommodate our party of seven no problem, and the staff were so friendly. Our server was amazing. One of our party members is hard to please, but our waiter was on top of it! We ordered a variety of apps for the table - wings, brussel sprouts, and fried provolone. All tasted fantastic. My husband and I agreed we would come just for the wings alone. Perfect smokey flavor. We got the hot buffalo garlic and they weren't super spicy. The marinara with the fried provolone was creamy and delicious. The Brussels were your standard side that every place has with the balsamic glaze. Not mushy at all and the garlic aioli was the best touch. We saw the food coming out and had to make room... the portions are huge! I could only finish half my burger and took the rest home. It was juicy, full of flavor, and easy to handle. Sometimes when you get a massive burger it ends up so sloppy and the toppings just slide off. Not with this! Perfectly stacked and ready to be devoured. The fries were a little greasy but still crispy. They earned my crisp seal of approval! The drinks were strong and everybody loved them. I got the blushing lady and it was sweet but not overly sweet and I could actually taste the spirits. Fantastic bar food options for people who are GF. We visited for the first time because someone in our group was GF and we would definitely go back!

We started with the onion petals which was their weekly special and can't get over how good they were. The breading and sauce were amazing, and they used red onion which we thought was so different! The chicken sandwiches were unbelievable and they give you so much food. They also have really good gluten free buns (that's not always the case at other restaurants). Another thing to note is the servers were incredibly nice and helpful! My only complaint is the service was a little slow, but they were really busy. Highly recommend!!

Back in the day it was 4-5 stars all day everyday. Service is always decent though. Typical neighborhood local vibe. When the food is good, it's great. Here are things I've had and loved and sometimes only liked: Burgers (they do crazy things with them like topping with a pierogi) Fries Chicken Pesto Sandwich Mac & Cheese

Our waiter came immediately and let us know the drinks on draft were $2 off for Happy Hour. I ordered the Purple Haze, a raspberry lager, and really enjoyed it's smooth fruity flavor. As a meal, I ordered the fish sandwich with chips, since upgrading to fries was an extra $3. The sandwich came out within 10mins, freshly hot and fried crispy. They split the big fish in half and stacked it on a bun, so it's very filling. On the side they give you a small portion of tarter sauce, which wasn't nearly enough for how much fish was on the sandwich. It was in need for a bit more flavor, so we requested hot sauce. Tabasco was free (other sauces were 50 cents) but unfortunately the bottle stated it expired in June of 2023. It didn't have any spice left and was a brownish color, so I didn't want to put it on my fish. The chips on the side were good, seasoned with salt and pepper. Overall the fish sandwich was good and a large portion, it just needed more sauce or maybe seasoning on the batter to give it more flavoring. For $15, I would recommend supporting a Firehall or Church fish fry that provides more sides with their menu items for the same quality.

They're located in Dormont, which makes this a walkable brewery for me (thanks to having friends and family in the area!). A friend and I did indeed walk over to catch up on a recent Friday. The place was surprisingly quiet - my friend mentioned that they get VERY busy during the summer, when people attend events across the road and want to buy beer to go with their market and/or food truck purchases. Speaking of food trucks, Hibachi Lou was parked out front on this particular Friday. So my friend and I got our hibachi orders at the truck out front; ordered our beer and/or cider from the bar; and took everything to a table in Back Alley's dining area to enjoy. While the place wasn't packed it wasn't empty, either; families and groups of friends were playing board games at every other table or so. So, what did I think about the drinks? I'm really glad Back Alley had Arsenal Cider on tap - I ordered a glass as my "sweet treat"/dessert after dinner. First though, I decided to try a beer. Back Alley, if you see this: I'm a BIG fan of sour beers and would order those if they're on the menu in the future! As of now though, no sour beers, so I ordered a "Snowed In" - Back Alley's spiced winter ale. It was a dark beer with a blend of cinnamon, clove, nutmeg, ginger, hence the "spiced" moniker. While not something I normally seek out, I really enjoyed it and am glad I tried it! Altogether, it was a 10/10 experience - I'm so glad my friend and I came here for our Friday together. I'll be back!
