LBJ roll, Philly roll, smoked salmon and fresh salmon
Aminah M.

Sushi: amazing // ramen: ok // service: super friendly prices: amazing I came here today because Eater Dallas said this was one of the best ramen places in Dallas. I have passed by this place literally 10000 times as it's very close to my house and never really paid attention to it. The prices here are amazing! Literally the best for what you get. Most rolls are 2.50 for 4 pieces, and they are nice sized pieces. I ordered the LBJ roll, Philly roll, fresh salmon, smoked salmon and tonkotsu ramen. The sushi was all delicious. Super fresh and delicious. I think I found my new sushi spot. The ramen on the other hand, was not the best. It was not hot(maybe because it was 80 degrees outside), lacking in flavor, great portion size and good amount of meat. Though the portion size was great, I came for the flavor and it was ok, I've had better in Dallas and Houston. That's minor though considering there specialty is sushi and they knocked this out the park!!!!!! I'll be back.

Tuna oh my lawd
Dan H.

I hate it when friends tell me about an awesome place that's like literally seconds away from me and I had no idea and I'm like "whuzza?" So, I hear about Kazy's from someone who lives, of course, much further away, and I step out of my darkened hovel into the glaring light and I shield my eyes (almost albino now, like cave fish) a lo, there appeareth Kazy's Gourmet, and my cup runneth over and I'm like, "whuzza?" I can easily walk there. So, me and the stealthy assassin who bides her time until I let down my guard decided to try the place out. Inside, there's about one of everything you need to successfully recreate a Japanese city block. They've got snacks and sauces and cooking utensils and those cool mini-drapes-with-pictures-of-octopi-on-them you see in sushi restaurants. Awesome. The prices for the goods are typical Japanese imported prices (high), though there are some good bargains hidden here and there. There are hidden nooks and crannies everywhere you look, and if you turn the wrong corner you just may find yourself in feudal Japan astride a barded horse. Every corner of this place is stuffed with plates and chopsticks and whatnot, and it's quite a fun time to check out everything here. Now, Kazy's is known for being a major fish distributor to the sushi restaurants in town, and, true to form, I saw a couple of chefs run in and pick up their enormous orders. This, in my book, is a good sign for the quality of the fish. There is a small counter at which you can order some food, and though sometimes you have to clear your throat really loudly and pretend to cough so that someone will know that you're ready to order, usually the ordering process is painless. There are two cooks here that I usually see, and they've usually got five pots going simultaneously as well as three things in the deep-fryer. These guys are BUSY with call-in orders and those who eat in. It's worth noting that English is the chefs' second language, so if you are one of those people whose typical orders sound like- "uhm, gimme a tuna roll but instead of tuna I want fried mackerel eyeballs and instead of a roll can you just caress a sheet of seaweed until the moisture from your hands makes it naturally curl?" -then you will have a hard time here. There is a sheet (just like the ones in the sushi restaurants) where you write down your selections, and it is no more complicated than that. When you pay for the food (typically when the food is done, not when you order), they will use this sheet to check your order. I have not had a problem with the accuracy of my orders. Also, no dirty communists to be found, thank goodness, as they can really ruin a lunch I hear because their hands are flippers and they eat with their mouths open and I am disgusted by them I think. The rolls here are simple; no rainbow rolls or anything swathed in multi-fish, but they are CHEAP (when was the last time you spent $1.99 to $3.99 for a roll?), FRESH, and the amount of fish within is MOTHER TERESA LEVEL GENEROUS. See the photo I uploaded here for confirmation. Also, notice that in the photo that I destroyed most of my other rolls (raised by wolves) before I could take a breath to snap the pic. Of note are the Ladybird Roll, buttery pieces of tuna with thinly sliced green onion, the Spicy Tuna Roll, kissed with a touch of Sriracha, and I could have SWORN that I had a roll here with fried crawfish that was absolutely fantastic, but the next time I ordered there was no mention of it on the menu and the chefs feigned ignorance. I smell cover-up. The non-sushi dishes are pretty decent as well: I've had the curry bowl, which was very mild (I like mine spicy) but chock full o' savory chicken, potatoes, and pickles, and which also afforded me two meals for only $3.99. The crab puffs are a riff on the typical Crab Rangoons you can get elsewhere. These were tasty and about what you'd expect, though with bigger pieces of Krab (notice the 'k', so not real, which is also par for the course). The chicken Yakisoba was pretty good (though my assassin mentioned, in a moment of stealth weakness, that it was too salty for her), and it was again very generously sized and satisfying, with plenty of chicken pieces, vegetables, and a rich, tangy sauce. Now, when you get your food, try to get to the second floor, as it's this awesome lounge-y area with couches and a tv and FREE WIRELESS?! The only drawback is that these lame-o tech-industry guys are always hogging the place and all I want to do is eat my meal and spread Dungeons and Dragons paraphernalia over every surface and roll my 20-sided dice in peace, dammit. I would say give this place a shot. It's a little fishy smelling downstairs, as they are a FISH BUSINESS, but the rolls are cheap, delicious, and you can get your fish on without having to wear one of those awful dragon-embroidered only-one-button-at-the-bottom guy's shirts that are the rage these days. Also, no crappy techno! huzza!

Dallas combo

Crazy affordable lunch specials. Rice bowls are like $4.50. Bento boxes are around 7. Kazy's is known to be a supplier to some of the sushi restaurants in dallas, which means everything in their is sushi grade. They have plenty of nice japanese food for you to try. I ordered the dallas bento which had a cali roll, cucumber roll, and nigiri pieces. You can't beat the value at this place.

Bone in spicy tuna roll.
Scott S.

Bones in sushi is normal? I've been coming to Kazys for a long time now - today's visit will probably be my last. I ordered a sushi lunch combo that comes with a spicy tuna roll. Bit into it and found a pretty good sized bone. Asked the man at the register and he proceeded to tell me that it is perfectly normal and it happens. 30 years I've been eating sushi and never once have I been presented any type of sushi with bones in it. Their general lack of 'give a damn' & total lack of concern with quality control is what had made me decide to venture elsewhere to get my sushi fix.

I have been here for lunch a few times. It takes a little bit of time to get their food but it is so fresh. The fish melts in your mouth like butter. Their sushi is very simple and affordable but there isn't a lot of variation. You won't find fried sushi here. I highly recommend it.

GO HERE! Super cheap and delicious!

Came a whiiile back and wanted to bring my boyfriend, I have no clue why sushi is so expensive at other places but it's at such a reasonable price here! Each sushi plate ranges from $1.50-$3.90 and they come with four sushi rolls. We got a bento box, veggie sushi, California roll, teriyaki chicken and two drinks for $20!! That's crazy and we're both super full and super satisfied! Very awesome place for a nice cheap date(:

Overall: 4.7/5 [dine in]…read more Our sushi chef was Jayden and he was so nice. He checked in with us throughout the meal to make sure everything tasted good, offered to cut our hand rolls in half so we could share, and even gave us a salmon belly on the house. Black Cod Nigiri ($6): Best bite of the night and it was on the seasonal menu. It was cooked and I'm not sure what they did to it, but it was absolutely phenomenal. Salmon Truffle Ponzu ($18): My second favorite dish of the night. The salmon was super fresh and the truffle ponzu elevated the whole thing. Scallop Foie Gras ($24): Beautiful presentation and good but surprisingly not as flavorful as the salmon truffle ponzu. I was expecting more umami from the foie gras. Salmon Belly Toro Nigiri ($16): Salmon belly with fatty toro topped with ikura. Delicious and melts in your mouth. Toro Wagyu Uni Nigiri ($22): Fatty tuna, A5 wagyu beef, and uni nigiri. My husband thought it was fun to eat, but said he would not order it again. Nodoguro Nigiri ($13): I looked this up, and it's apparently a rare high end deep sea fish from Japan known as the toro of white fish. Based purely on taste though, I thought it was okay and did not compare to the salmon belly. Kanpachi Cherry Blossom ($6.50): A pretty rosy pink color with a subtle cherry blossom flavor. Okay in terms of taste compared to the other fishes we had. Ami Ebi Nigiri ($10): The sweet shrimp was a bit too raw for me. Crab Uni Butter Nigiri ($12): I did not really taste the difference between the uni infused butter and regular butter so I am not sure it is worth the price, though it was still good. Snow Crab Handroll ($7): So much better than imitation crab. Recommend out of all the handrolls we tried. Eel Handroll ($7.50): Not my favorite but my husband said it was one of the best eel he has ever had. Lobster Handroll ($12): Good but nothing special. Volcano Roll ($28): This took the longest to make and was the last item we received even though we saw them start preparing it at the beginning of the meal. The presentation was beautiful and Jayden even sprayed gold on it for our photo and video. It comes with snow crab, avocado, lobster, and bay scallop topped with eel sauce and was really yummy with lots of seafood. The only downside was that the roll underneath broke apart easily which made it hard to eat. Fresh Wasabi Root ($10): We watched them grind the wasabi fresh which was cool to see. It doesn't have a kick to it though so I wouldn't order it again since I like a tiny bit of spiciness. Matcha Mojito ($15): Not for me. It had a bit too much club soda. Yuzu Saketini ($15): I liked this one more than the matcha mojito. The yuzu flavor was prominent and it kind of reminded me of a Lemon Drop.

Sushi Bar Dallas…read more Omakase at Sushi Bar Dallas is an incredible experience from the moment you step inside. The room is intentionally intimate and very dark, with an industrial ceiling where pipes climb 20+ feet above, signaling you're in for something far from a traditional sushi bar. My only gripe came at the front of the house: the initial greeting and the rule explanation were a little too demanding and elementary for someone who is tired and paying a significant amount of money for a sushi dinner. Put the rules in an email, text and on the website i'm not in 4th grade. The hostess was pleasant, but she seemed a bit robotic in doling out the rules of the evening. The line-up system, where you wait your turn and have your name called, feels odd and reminds me of the times I visited my friend in prison and the guards lined us up against the wall by our names before they took us to the room with inmates. Uncomfortable but I do follow most rules and there was a reason for the lineup that becomes clear as you settle in. Next she takes you down a dimly lit, narrow wooden staircase and you land in a basement sanctuary of omakase heaven. Our hostess knocked and the door opened to a room that felt specially curated for this meal. Each guest found their name written in gold on a sign on the sushi bar where you are suppose to sit. The chair was a very comfortable leather chair. Each gold written name plate, marking the guest order she placed us in upstairs. My seat was at the center of the sushi bar, perfectly positioned to capture video and photos of both chefs in action. From the start, we were told we'd be eating with our hands, a nod to traditional Japanese dining. The chefs staged 17 courses with the precision of neurosurgeons, walking us through every nuance from the provenance of the seafood to the section of the fish we were eating to the age of the barrel aged soy sauce. Not a detail was missed, and timing felt both deliberate and urgent in all the right moments. The father, Jose, was laid-back and effortlessly in control, while Leo, Jose's son, emerged as a true partner in the kitchen, their dynamic reminiscent of watching a masterful, living artwork take shape. The two moved back and forth with a rhythm that felt like a collaboration at the highest level, each dish placed neatly on a flat stone in front of each of us. They would then announce with pride what we were about to inhale and wait in anticipation of our response. It was clear they take tremendous pride in their craft, presenting edible masterpieces that felt almost ceremonial. Too keep everyone happy with the time in between dishes there was an endless supply of a pickled salad that I could not stop eating. As for a favorite course, it's hard to pick one. Each bite built on the last, and the whole sequence felt cohesive, an immersive set from tartare hand roll, to Shima Aji, Madai, Uni my favorite, Hotate, Masu, Hirami, Hamachi, Bincho, Kinmedai, and something I have never heard of Zuwaigani, followed by the best Waygu I have ever had in my life and ending with a passion fruit sorbet with activated charcoal crumbles and toasted crispy coconut, I don't like coconut and I ate every bite. The pairing of technique, seasonal seafood, and f#%king great seasonings left a lasting impression or as my wife says, "my husband has food memories." If you're considering a visit, go with an open mind, a willingness to lean into the pace, and a camera ready (flash off it's one of the rules) for the moments when the chefs' artistry shines. The father-and-son team of Jose Manuel Tapia and Leo deliver something rare: not just sushi, but a storytelling meal where every plate is a page in an ongoing, delicious epic food story. At the end they will make you additional food for an additional price but it's worth it. They then walked us over to a very nice bar with a great vibe and old school Dazz Band playing like I was in a time machine and it was 1982. Great place, great food, great vibe. Be ready to drop $300 plus per person tip is included but you will want to tip the sushi chefs something extra.

I appreciate that their reservation site provided all the information I needed to make an informed decision (pricing, how it works, etc.). When I checked in I was offered sake but since i'm not drinking they accommodated me with sparkling green tea (which was soooo good). The wait was a bit longer than I expected. I checked in at 7:35 for my 7:45 reservation, we weren't seated until 8:10. The hostess was apologetic about the wait. The restaurant itself is in a basement and it's a typical quaint chef's experience with about 10 seats in an intimate space. I loved the decor and vibe. The staff was very friendly, they all introduced themselves and walked us through how the omakase experience worked. We had a 17 course tasting menu and I enjoyed every bite. Loved that the chefs explained every dish and gave us the origin of the fish. My favorite was the Kanpachi, but everything was delicious and tasted fresh. I had a yummy mocktail and our "spirit guide" let me try a non alcoholic champagne which I loved. After dinner we were led into Ginger's which is a speakeasy next door that I've been to a few times. Overall I thoroughly enjoyed this experience. The only thing I would change is the number of seats. I felt cramped.

To dissect the Chicken Teriyaki Bento: the chicken teriyaki had a nice flavor and wasn't dry (which is a pet-peeve of mine), the salad had a nice, citrusy dressing that just opens up your sinuses, and the gyoza was very juicy. A very filling meal, to say the least. The Unagi Don was delectable, with every bite a creamy and umami mix. Then, the "I Love You" roll literally just melted in your mouth. Service: No complaints! When I pointed out the mistake and asked for them to be replaced, the staff refused to take the incorrect order off my bill. Instead of fixing their own kitchen error, they forced me to pay for both the ruined rolls and the remake effectively charging me double for one meal.
