We tried this place out on a Sunday night with a friend as many of the area sushi restaurants aren't open on Sundays, and we're glad we did. The three of us ordered a variety of sushi rolls and shared them. We went with a wide variety of options and found it was hard to land on just one favorite as a result. They offer options with some unique variations (e.g. like the North Texas roll that is topped with guacamole and baked with spices). The prices were reasonable, and I will say the width of each piece was on the smaller end, and we still walked away very satisfied with the amount of our meal. The service was on the slower side. They got slammed shortly after we got there and said they don't typically have that much of a crowd on a Sunday night so it caught them off guard. It was a Sunday night and luckily we got there shortly after their opening time because after we were seated there was a long wait time to be seated for all the other people that got there after 6. God bless her there was only one waitress for all the guests and I could tell she was very overwhelmed. It took one girl I was with over an hour to get any of her rolls and we had to remind our waitress. I forgot why I quit coming here. 8 years later and I remember why. Soon as I received the bill, I had a flashback. Ugggggh! It's WAY overpriced for what you get. The food is simply just ok to the palate. Extreme disappointment for a return visit on two occasions. I wanted great food, it wasn't what I was expecting. The rolls were extremely small for the price. Small slivers of sashimi placed on top of roll. The albacore roll was quite petite. It made me really sad. If the sashimi had been sliced any thinner I would have not been able to see it. I was expecting to be blown away. Instead, it was my money that was flying away. I had two plates and the bill was $36 without the tip. AND I was still hungry! That's a lot of money for 1 person and receiving such a small amount of food. Boo! The place is clean, you're greeted with a shout out. Enough room....However, as a previous author wrote, if you're not a regular, you don't/wont get that special "I belong feeling." I love this place so much. The owners are amazing and their daughter, Christina, who waits on customers, absolutely rocks! SERVICE IS A 10/10! The food is also high quality. We dined at Simon's last Friday night and I came here looking for the review from Lorraine P. In my opinion, and others who were there, it's inaccurate and misleading. The team at Simon's does everything they can do to make your experience enjoyable. When you've been camping at a table for well over an hour without ordering and people are literally outside waiting, a simple request to give up your table as a courtesy to others shouldn't cause hysteria. No need to come to the front and throw a tantrum or to call to complain again from your car as soon as you finally departed. Christina, our server told me and my family we needed to leave while we were finishing having dinner saying she had another reservation all while they don't take reservations there. I went up to her and told her she was very unprofessional in a very respectful manner. I called and asked to speak to the manager/owner and could hear Christina in the back saying I screamed at her. Quiet little place, very calming! The sushi was great but I found the volcano roll had a bit too much mayo for my liking and the spider roll had an almost "dirt" taste to it. We've been going here for nearly as long as Simon has been in his location. The fish is always fresh and the rolls are very unique! You've got to get the BTS, Bird's Nest, and Saturday Night Special. We had a group of about seven people and we ordered a lot of sushi. For starters even their premium price rolls were small and kind of disappointed on taste. I had the volcano roll, spider roll, spicy tuna roll, and the spicy Halibut roll. I would recommend the spicy tuna and halibut roll as they would be about a 3 1/2 as far as taste. Upon entering I knew I was in for something great, it smelled nice, the place is clean, and it was packed. I came here for lunch with two buddies. The waitress and waiter were both attentive and had a great attitude. The waitress in particular paid very good attention to my questions regarding the types of sushi. I'm surprised at how fast the food came out, it was less than 5 minutes before she brought out our first order of rolls. I can't begin to explain how wonderful and fresh everything tasted. As soon as the rolls were brought to the table, we were scarfing them down, I completely forgot about my normal commitment to being a great YELPer and presenting images and was more focused on the yummy rolls, so please excuse that I only uploaded a couple photos. Sad part is, I can't even remembers the type of rolls I had, all I can say is I had summa rolls... as in summa those, and summa those... and summa them... LOL I do remember teh BTS roll. (better than sex). It was a yummy roll, I mean super yummy. My buddies and I devoured that plate in minutes. While it was great, there was a roll with crawfish that stole my love for any other roll... it was love at first bite. I've had sushi at a few places in the Metroplex and until this visit, I haven't found myself craving a return visit. While the shopping plaza it is in is unassuming you are in for a real treat if you decide to dine here. We had stopped dining here because we enjoy eating in and they have decided to only do take out because of Covid. I tried out this restaurant for a girls lunch yesterday. My tab was 25.00 for three rolls. I was VERY disappointed. First, the rolls I ordered had DRYED out rice and very thin layer of rice. There was nothing fresh about the salmon. The service was horrible, I literally had to keep flagging down the waitress even though there were only two tables. Finally, I asked repeatedly for an itemized receipt. THEY WOULD NOT PROVIDE ONE which make me think there are some shady business practices happening there. I will not return to this restaurant. Visited Simon's for a business lunch as my hosts said I had to try their famous Better Than Sex roll. The majority of Yelp reviews were positive so I anticipated a delicious lunch and I was not disappointed. I can unequivocally state that the BTS roll is not. It is a delicious and unique roll with a spicy Asian inspired pico de gallo topping (adding just a hint of jalapeno pepper gave the sauce I nice little kick). I could not place one of the ingredients and was told it was a secret. I eventually figured it out. I would definitely order the BTS again. I ordered one of their bento box lunches and it was more than enough to fill my gas tank. There was a generous amount of sashimi, tempora, salad and rice. Simon's is a cozy family run restaurant and it is BYOB FYI4U. I love going to these little gems and look forward to my next visit to Plano and Simon's. read more
