Tiffany has been cutting, styling, coloring, and all around managing my hair for close to 6 years now. I started out with a black, box-dyed, pixie grow out and made it to every length in between. Tiffany is not only great at listening and giving you the cut you want with the hair you have but she is AMAZING at balayage and making your hair look sun kissed and SO natural so people compliment your pretty hair, not your great color job. I have been turned on, not pressured, to some great products that helps my hairstyle(s) be low maintenance but not look "blah". Tiffany is obviously my favorite but I've never seen anyone walk out of there with bad or even questionable hair. Also, the gals at the front desk are always so professional and take care of you from beginning to end. Not really impressed. I've had my hair cut and colored at least 20 times in my life in the greater boulder area, and I was the least impressed this time. The stylist, new to me, and nicely recommended by the front desk people after explaining my particular needs, convinced me to do less (close to none) layers than I wanted explaining that because we were going shorter I wouldn't need them to have the body I was used to with my longer layers. She told me I could come back and get layers if I needed to at no cost. (She also said she was going to put a darker color on the bottom to give more body, she didn't) I figured out it wasn't the product I felt pressured into buying, but the cut that was weighing my hair down, so I called and had to wait a week and half to schedule, (which is fine), but then, after I WORKED MY WHOLE DAY AROUND IT, I show up to be told it had been too long and she needed more time than was allotted for. I should never have been given the appointment if that was the policy. Bad customer service. I own a business and know the value of good customer service. Lacking. read more

I have been a client at Side Door for 6 years, since they opened the doors. I have a standing weekly blowout appointment and not picky about which stylist I see as they are all amazing. I have more hair than most people, which is incredibly coarse, thick and unmanageable for me but everyone at Side Door handles it like a breeze which I've never experienced at any other salon. I have referred dozens of friends here who are all still clients due to the people and fun and friendly atmosphere. Lisa Amato is my stylist for cuts, color and balayage and blowouts and she is an amazing talented person. She has 20+ years of experience and is always kind and funny, tells it like it is, and would never do anything to my hair that wouldn't have me leaving looking amazing. I have never had so many compliments on my hair color in my life until I started seeing Lisa. People constantly stop me and tell me they love it and ask if it's natural. Lisa A. Has been doing my hear for about 5 years and she is the best! Her specialty is color but she is also a great stylist. I was a dark brunette but my hair is probably 90% white now. When it became too difficult for me to keep my dark natural color, we transitioned to an ash blond with darker low lights. I did a TV appearance last week with MSNBC in Washington DC and the stylist there complimented my hair (she used to do my make up and hair 15 years ago when I lived in DC and did TV frequently). She thought I had it done in NYC and couldn't believe my stylist was in Boulder. Lisa is very sweet, listens to what you want and will happily make changes if you want to try something new or different. She is a true professional. I have been to this salon 3 times since moving into the area, initially b/c the reviews were good so I thought I'd give it a try. Each cut was fine, but not great - and the overall atmosphere was snobby and artificial. It's beautiful inside, which is fun, but if you aren't willing to pay for an elaborate cut, plus multiple colors, plus walk out the door with $85 in product, forget about customer service. I can get the same cut elsewhere (I currently go to Chicago Hair) with waaayy less attitude. read more

The Side Door Salon is clearly always booked for a reason! I was pampered and cared for by the team of receptionists with coffee and warm ups whenever my mug was low. Then I managed to get my eyebrows waxed on a whim, and had my hair colored by an expert stylist. Amy Kender rocks! I have had nothing but compliments since she did my hair, and the cut is cute and easy to style. I walked out feeling very satisfied and like it was worth every penny. I went to the sidedoor salon and Dancer Vernet did my hair. She told me that in order for her to cut my hair I needed to " put all my confidence in her" then she tried to make me agree to that with a verbal response. When I refused because I didn't trust her 100% and this was my first visit to this salon and with her; she became very rude and asked me if I'd like a horrible hair cut. She spent a total of 20 minutes lecturing me about her opinions on hair cutting methods. She even told me she had spent time in jail and that she was a hard a**! Wow! So unprofessional and unpleasent. She did do a decent job on my hair but didn't give me the style I wanted... but it works. She told me after I was done that my new do would complement my heavy physique and chubby cheeks, as she laughed. She also told me to tip at least 10%. She isn't a good fit for this salons atmosphere... I won't return. read more

I have been going to this salon since the day the doors opened. I actually don't use yelp because I find it unreliable and more of a platform for people to complain. All I need to say is I just got my hair done yesterday and I love my hair, I love the honesty I receive from my hairdresser or artist, I love that the receptionist always remembers me and says hello, and finally I love that the other hairdressers make me feel welcome. I went to Side Door because my stylist, Rebekah, moved to this location. I felt super comfortable here, the atmosphere is friendly, open, and elegant. Rebekah specializes in hair cutting, and since I have no patience for fussing with my hair, a really good cut is what I depend on. Lindsey Morel is the best hair stylist. I've been her client for about 10 years and I'm always very happy with my hair cut and color. She is very knowledgable and up-to-date on the latest styles and trends. Lindsey is always taking classes in New York and Europe to learn, advance and grow in her talent in the industry. My haircuts always grow out beautifully - meaning they look amazing the day she cuts my hair and 4-6 months following! The same goes for my color, Lindsey colors my hair in a way where grow outlooks natural and even. Then there's product, Lindsey is always honest and conservative with product, she doesn't try to "sell" me what I don't need and she always asks me "well, what do you already have at home?" On top of all this great hair positivity, there's Lindsey's amazing personality. She is upbeat, positive, fun, caring and happy. My three daughters insist on seeing Lindsey and will let no one cut their hair except Lindsey. I love my appointments with Lindsey and if you want an amazing hair cut and/or color... Do not GO HERE. Moved to boulder from Austin Texas with beautiful platinum blonde HEALTHY hair. Was set to get married in 6 months decided to try the Side Door salon. I needed a new stylist here in Boulder and as always it was nerve racking thinking about someone new doing my hair. Because I was getting married I wanted to start getting some low lights in my hair to start breaking up the platinum blonde. I told the stylist what I was thinking, also showed her photos of Victoria secret models with the sunkissed color, very beachy. IN NO WAY DID I SAY dark brown hair. Long story short, I exited the salon that day with ASHY GREEN fried hair. it was awful. nothing at all what I had asked for. Two days I called the stylist and let her know that I was not happy, she reluctantly told me I could come back and she would "TRY" and fix it. When I got to the salon she began looking at my hair and agreed that it was green and ashy but said it should wash out. (yea right) She then said she would try and fix it. she then apparently proceeded to try and bleach it back. instead of informing me that my hair could fall out if she were to do this, she just put bleach all over my head. The process that day took longer than she expected apparently so she washed me out and told me that I would have to leave the salon with wet hair. that day I was wearing a black tank top and black leggings. in my car as I sat, I looked down and I was covered in my OWN HAIR. it was falling out in chunks. it continued to fall out for months. When I called the stylist and the manager of the salon they told me because I had waited a month to call, (SORRY BEING TOTALLY TRAMATIZED and waiting to get my emotions back in order before calling), they would not be able to do ANYTHING FOR ME. So I pretty much paid someone over $400 bucks to make me hair fall out before my wedding. my hair is still not the same and it is sad that this is how the salon decided to take care of this situation. I would never recommend anyone here. ever. read more

I've been to Side Door three times. First was with Kiki, and she did a good job but sort of reluctantly did what I asked. I color my hair with demi-permanent black and asked to have the whole thing done over since it had been a while since I colored it and it was really faded. She said I didn't need it and just pulled it through in the wash basin, and guess what, it turned out lighter than how I wanted. I had paid $75. The second time I went I chose a different stylist, Laurie, who was very nice and did a nice job. She charged me $50 and I left a nice tip because she did exactly what I asked and my color turned out alright. The second time I chose Laurie, she rushed me through, was in somewhat of a bad mood, and then when she told the receptionist how much to charge me, she whispered it and then sped off without even saying good bye. The receptionist told me I needed to pay $75. I paid it, but then thought about it later and I got the exact same thing the first time and was charged an extra $25. I'm not sure why she did that, and I should have called the next day, but I guess I was just too scared to get into a tiff about it. Probably would not recommend this salon. I think they tried to steal from me and I let them do it. read more

I've now been to Sidedoor three times and each time I have walked out feeling incredible. I have gotten my hair cut by a different stylist each time and nevertheless my hair seems to come out increasingly better. I am very sensitive and particular about my haircut. I'm originally from New York where I've had the same person cutting my hair for years. In an effort to keep consistency and not break from the comfort of my usual hair dresser I tried to hold out on getting a cut until I made a trip back to NY. When I desperately needed my hair cut I finally gave in and tried Sidedoor. Not only was the cut incredible, it was also exactly what I have always wanted and been unable to get from my NY stylist. So far I have gotten a cut at Sidedoor from Laurel, Amy and Chelsea. These three are all equally talented and and quite talented at that! The consistency in Sidedoor is unbeatable. As I am always on the run and trying to get my cut in before an event or a night out so that I looks fabulous it had been comforting to be able to schedule my cut based on my own availability instead of a particular stylists availability since I know that whoever cuts my hair at Sidedoor will do an amazing job. From a high maintenance New Yorker to anyone in and around Boulder (even if you're visiting!)-get a cut at Sidedoor salon and you'll never go anywhere else again! read more
