Stephanie was so good. I get my hair cut once in a *very* blue moon. One reason I dread going to salons is because i'm usually not in the mood to chat with a stranger (life is overwhelming. for me, silence is gold!) Stephanie seemed to pick up on my willingness to have silence and just let me be. Thus, the haircut was super relaxing. I closed my eyes and she did exactly what I hoped she would do to wash and cut and style my hair. I'll look for Stephanie next time I need a haircut. Also, though I hadn't sought out an LGBTQ-friendly place, I was really happy to see a rainbow flag when I walked in. Set me at ease immediately. read more

Total disregard for clients and appointments. I went in twice within two days, the first appointment somehow was double book because someone booked online after me. So I had to take 1.5 hours off of work. I showed up the next day for an appointment that was confirmed in the morning via phone call, after waiting 15 minutes with any interaction from the staff, in left. I actually needed a cut, but I felt the staff was more interested in chatting and having fun than talking to their clients. I missed a total of 3-hours of work and still am without a cut. read more

Lauren has been my go-to stylist for years now, and that's because I know I can count on her to provide me with the cut that I want every time. I'm always able to get an appointment within a reasonable time frame at a time of day that works for me. Lauren's a great listener with fantastic cut and color skills, and the shop location is super convenient. read more

This salon is the absolute worse. They didn't color my hair how I wanted and I even went twice , my hair came out even worse and damaged than the first time I dyed it . They said they would fix it but they made it even worse . I wouldn't recommend this place to anybody, please don't even think of going here. And then I emailed the owner and she ignored my email so I had to email the girl who did my hair and then her boss emailed me back, they said they couldn't refund me for the terrible job that they did and all they did was offer me a 20$ off coupon when I spent over 300 dollars getting my hair done. If you guys plan on getting your hair done please go somewhere else and don't waste your time or money here with these unexperienced people read more

UPDATE: had to quit going here after two bad color jobs and another bad haircut. It had potential at one time, maybe it will again. It takes a long time for a girl to find a decent, reasonably priced place to get a haircut. I totally envy boys who can just walk into the barber, drop ten bucks, and be happy for six weeks. After years of searching around Boulder, I finally found this place, and I've been consistently pleased. It's not cheap, but it won't kill your budget either, and cuts take about 40 minutes, with minimal salon-theater (e.g. tinkering with curling irons and tiny scissors as if fixing your cowlick is open heart surgery, cementing it into place with hurricane-proof amounts of spray and then parading products you can't afford in front of you with the promise they'll solve all of your hair issues... when all you want to do is get to happy hour with your friends.) With every cut, you get an aromatherapy scalp massage (who doesn't love those?) and they only use Bumble and Bumble products, so you leave smelling luxurious and looking good. Plus, B&B trains all the stylists at salons that sell their products, so you know that the person cutting your hair has more skills than the average scissor-happy Supercuts employee. N.B. - Yelp needs to update the business address. The salon is now located at 4550 N. Broadway, but phone # is the same. It's a much better location than their old one... read more

Open communication, honesty, positive energy, a good sense of humor, the ability to keep it fresh, established trust, and the ability to work together for a common good...traits comprising the ideal relationship we all seek, but only a lucky few find.... with their hair stylist. I've found it at Chicago Hair with Sarah! Not only is she a professional with seasoned technique, but she has the ability to make you feel relaxed, like you're sitting in the living room with an old friend. You know she's invested in how your hair looks, and you can trust that she'll collaborate with you to achieve the look you desire. Or, the times I felt I was lacking for inspiration or the vocabulary to describe what I was looking for, I sat back and let her do her thing, and always saw amazing results! My color looks great, my cut is fantastic, versatile and wearable and I couldn't be more enthusiastic about referring Sarah and Chicago Hair to friends, definitely check it out. You won't find a better salon in Boulder. read more

Wow, Palmer made my day! I went in for a change of style, thinking I'd just have a hair cut...and I walked out a whole new me. She suggested some "baby lights" to brighten up my hair and also a razor cut, to add more movement and volume. I've never had either, but I was totally game and wanted a new look. I'm thrilled with my new cut and color, it really made a tremendous difference. Thanks a million Palmer, I'm looking forward to my next fun hair day. read more

If you like sitting through a sales pitch during your haircut, this is your place. They are owned by Bumble & Bumble and they just pressure and pressure and pressure you to buy their products the whole time. They even give you a list of what you should buy before you leave! A haircut should not be a high pressure sales pitch. And my haircut was just mediocre. And $60. I'm giving this 2 stars because they did not give me a mullet like Floyd's did. But I was still very unimpressed. read more

Additionally, NOBO's atmosphere, customer service, products and hair care are all definitely FIVE STAR worthy! Schedule your next appointment with NOBO, I promise you will leave satisfied! read more

I highly recommend Sarah at Chicago Hair. Before I moved to Boulder, I had been seeing the same hair stylist in San Francisco for 7 years. I had a really hard time trying to find a good person in Boulder. In the past 3 years, I tried 4 other stylists and never loved any of my cuts. When a friend recommended that I go see Sarah at her old salon in Longmont, I was willing to make the drive to try someone new. I loved the way she cut and colored my hair, so I followed her to this salon - which is actually much more convenient for me. Sarah has been awesome and Chicago Hair is a nice salon. She is great at figuring out what you want and my hair always looks amazing. She is hilarious and talented. I am relieved that I've finally found my Boulder stylist! read more

I wish I could remember the stylist's name ... she was personable and (thankfully) not too chatty, but my lowlights came out with waaaaaayyyy too much "orange" in them and the cut was barely average. For the price - cut and color w/ tip, about $175 - I expected better. read more

Stephanie C. Is my go to gal for all my hair needs. Shes comfortable with cuts and colors on thick hair so I never have to worry about my hair looking choppy. All the girls are very professional and friendly the second you walk in, I recommend this place to everyone looking for a fabulous salon team :) read more

I have been getting my hair cut here for years and have never left disappointed. Shauna is fantastic.

You let me down, Yelpers!!! All those good ratings!!! After my own experience, I seriously believe that the 5 star reviews must be written by the staff and owners of the salon. I am new to Boulder, and when I called to make the appointment I emphasized that I was apprehensive getting color from a new stylist, and I begged for a competent, experienced person. My stylist was very nice (I don't want to trash her personally, so I won't mention her name) but she was awful. The color on my roots was much lighter than the color on my ends. So now, after $200 for a cut, color, and a tube of Brilliantine, I still have roots -- except they are light brown, not gray, and a stark contrast to the dark brown color on the rest of the hair. The cut wasn't terrible, but it wasn't great. It really was just an end trim and took about 10 minutes. Because it wasn't thinned out or shaped, my hair now feels like I'm wearing a big helmet (because I needed a real cut!!) I'm never going back, and I recommend that you don't either. read more

Bekah is the absolute best at her craft. She has been taking care of my hair for the last year. I started seeing her after falling in love with her work on Instagram. Bekah is professional and warm. She makes me feel like everything is going to be okay. I take a lot of pride in having my color done correctly and beautifully. This goddess of hair, always get me in her schedule in a timely manner, and appointments are always time well spent. I've recommended Bekah to anyone who have inquired about my stylist (or who should be seeking a stylist) and will continue to do so. Knowledgeable, friendly, competent, inspiring. read more

Being from NY, I am a total snob when it comes to salons (and let's face it, everything else) so it took me a while to find a place out in Colorado that I trust not only to style, but also to cut and color. I have seen probably every stylist in the salon for either a styling for an event or for a cut and have NEVER had a bad experience. I am now a regular and loyal customer of Shauna F. for color and cut and style and she is the absolute best. Although $125 for a full head of (great looking) highlights may seem a little much, compared to what it would cost in NY city for the same quality, it's an absolute steal. Since Chicago Hair is a full service salon, a wash and gentle styling is included in the price of the service. Shauna has gone out of her way and spent extra time with me and even taught me how to use a curling iron on my hair to get it exactly the way I love it. The atmosphere of the salon is very clean and comfortable. The North Boulder location makes it like a little escape from the chaos of downtown and has easily accessible, free lot parking, directly outside the door. I highly recommend this salon to anyone with good taste. read more

Thank you Kayla and Nobo Salon! They were so great to squeeze me in last minute and Kayla did an amazing job with my totally spur of the moment cut and color. It turned out exactly how I wanted ad I am grateful! read more

I made a yelp account so I could leave a review for this salon. I have never had such a bad haircut experience in my entire life. As soon as I left this salon I broke down crying, like in the movies when someone gets a terrible haircut. I went in to get my hair shaped around my face, essentially bangs, and I showed my hairstylist an image of what I wanted. Even though I clearly stated that I wanted bangs that were well below my jaw in length, I received uneven, choppy bangs that are so short they end at my mouth. I am completely mortified, my hair looks like I have a mullet, and I can't even wear my hair down. I also called the salon ahead of time to ask if they would wash my hair, and they stated that all cuts receive hair washes so it is easier to cut and style, which was perfect since I had plans right after my cut. So I did not shower beforehand, and my stylist did not wash my hair, so I left with a terrible haircut (probably because they did not wash my hair), and unwashed, un-styled hair. read more

Nobo Salon is my favorite salon in Boulder! Everyone is incredibly friendly and professional. I get my hair cut and colored by Kara- she's really attentive and easy to talk to, and she knows just what to do with my hair to give it the lift, volume and style that I'm looking for. It looks and feels amazing every single time. If you're looking for a beautiful hair cut, I definitely recommend Kara at Nobo Salon! read more

As a male person who is constantly held back by own inability to articulate my own hairstyle needs, I can say that I made the right choice heading to NoBo. Kara knew the haircut I was there for without me having to mangle the description. I left with the perfect fade and a great mood...which was only dampened by having to go back to work. Anyway, if you are a dude who wants a good haircut even if you don't know how to describe it, definitely ask for Kara at NoBo. read more

I had the worst experience at this salon! The girl who did the highlights on my hair and styled it supposedly use to do hair in LA for the film industry. Yet, I'm sure this claim is a lie. My highlights weren't even noticeable. My blow out was a frizzy and puffy mess! Also, when I went to the bathroom while my hair was being processed she and the other stylists, included the owner, were gossiping about the clients in the shop!!! I obviously do NOT recommend this place! read more

I got my hair done here recently and loved it! Everyone was so nice and the receptionist was super friendly and welcoming. Kara did my cut and color and I left feeling like a new woman! Loved it! read more

I was lucky enough to cross paths with stylist Callie, who had me in to give my hair a fresh cut. I don't do a lot with my hair and usually leave haircuts feeling rather bored, but Callie went the extra mile to make me feel comfortable and beautiful! Her professional opinion gave my hair some style while satisfying my nerves when it comes to doing much with my hair. I honestly think it's the best hair cut I have ever had. I could not recommend Callie more. Look no further! read more

I've been going to Chicago Hair for almost 5 years and I have never been disappointed! Although I've had my hair done by a majority of the stylists at the salon, I keep coming back to my favorite, Liz! Doubling as the owner and a stylist, she knows exactly what's right for everyone who comes in. Whenever I go in with only a vague description of the hair style I want, she knows the right cut to give my thick, unruly hair to achieve the look I want every time! Most recently, Liz used the new balayage technique to lighten my hair from a brunette to a blonde, highlighting my short cut in all the right places to give it a natural-looking ombre that has been growing out flawlessly. I love Liz and I can't wait to go back to change up my style again for this coming fall/winter season! read more

This is a review for Kara and Sarah. I have gotten many very "transformational" haircuts in the past couple of years. Each time I have had Sarah, she has been so incredibly friendly and professional. She always tells me how we can make the haircut I want while working with my texture and face. She is obviously very knowledgable about her profession! Today, I had Kara to help me with the remains of a haircut I had gotten somewhere else. I gave her a lot of freedom, showed her some vague pictures, and told her that I'd like for it to be "edgy." She took it and ran with it. She somehow deciphered EXACTLY what I wanted and gave me one of the best cuts of my life. Like Sarah, Kara is professional, friendly, and very talented. Thank you two!!! read more

I just had Sarah, and it was an awesome experience! Super friendly, and best haircut in my life. Sarah was very mellow and low key and didn't pressure me to do this or that just b/c she thought it would look better. There was also a promotional discount I got that was online. read more

I had Meredith as my stylist. This was the first time I had been to this salon. I was very pleased! She listened to what I wanted, did it, and made good suggestions on cut and styling. They do push products, but they are also really knowledgable about how to use each product and answered all my questions, and gave me samples. The price was average - 65 - a little more than I'm used to at a BB salon, but worth it for the cut I got. read more

I went to see Palmer to touch up my highlights and I could not be happier with the results. I wanted a natural ombre look so Palmer suggested balayage, which was completely foreign to me. But, Palmer has done my hair for years so I trusted her to work her magic...and I'm so glad I did because my hair looks fabulous! It looks natural, vibrant and perfectly sun-kissed! Palmer is a true artist. She is consistent, full of cutting edge ideas and has the skills to execute. And to top it off, she is such a sweet heart and I look forward to the 60 minutes I get to catch up with her! read more

Went to Chicago Hair Salon for the first time after seeing reviews online. Went to Ariel for a highlight and cut. Was super bored of my hair and decided to go with bangs. I was very nervous but Ariel made sure I was comfortable with everything before we got started and she did an amazing job! Will definitely be returning and I would recommend her to anyone! read more

Took my high school son here for his first Boulder hair cut and were less than impressed. After my first review, the owner, Liz, promptly contacted us and made it right the very next day. My son is happy with the results. She promised that she would talk with the stylist to ensure better results for other clients. I appreciate the owner's dedication to making her salon the best it can be. We will probably go back- but for now, just to Liz. Thanks! read more

I'm a little late in writing this review, as my appointment with Sarah was last fall. However, as I continue my search to find the perfect stylist, I found these reviews so helpful that I felt compelled to share my experience here. As I mentioned, my appointment was with Sarah. My last color had left my normally red hair almost black, so I wanted to lighten my hair color as much as possible (I know this is one of the more difficult services). She first began by telling me that would be impossible. Not true, and not what a client wants to hear. I know this isn't the case because I've gone through this before and have had to have stylists lighten up a too-dark color--and they could do it easily and effectively. Sarah barely made a dint. I could hardly tell my hair had been colored. However, the real kicker was that this woman was appallingly rude to me from the moment she laid eyes on me. I felt like she took one look, decided she didn't like me, and proceeded to make me feel uncomfortable and unwelcome. Everything I said she had to contradict. Everything I liked she hated. Anything I didn't like, she did. I felt like I was dealing with a "mean girl" from high school. Needless to say, I'll never go back to Chicago Hair, and I've warned my friends not to go there either. read more

I just got back from my haircut with Sarah and just wanted to acknowledge her work because she did a great job. I'm new to the area and bumped around a couple stylists looking for a good fit. Even though I am a man with short hair, I still had a list of items for her and she delivered on everything I asked for. I'm happy to have finally found someone talented, yet affordable in this town! Oh, and the scalp massage is great. read more

Seriously, such an awesome salon in Boulder. I haven't had a regular hair stylist in years so when I came in here for the first time, I was a little nervous. You never know how you'll click with someone new! But I luckily saw had Kara and she was great. She understood exactly what I wanted for my new look and I couldn't have imagined a better outcome. She knew exactly what she was doing and I definitely trusted her within the first 5 minutes. She's also really fun to talk to, which is a must when you're spending a little bit of time with someone! I think I have finally found my new go-to hair stylist. And anyone in the area looking for someone, ask for Kara!! She's awesome! Until next time- read more

don't waste your money at this salon. i got two very disappointing cut and colors in a row, over $450 spent and my hair looks like crap. bad enough that i must now pay someone else to fix it. i lived with it the first time, but the second time called back to schedule a redo. when i got there the stylist argued that she had given me what i asked for, NOT! and copped an attitude at which point i left. i really wanted this salon to work for me, love bumble and bumble products and its two blocks from my house, unfortunately my experiences there were so poor i have no choice but to go elsewhere. save yourself some grief and money, get your hair done elsewhere! ADDENDUM: one day later..... David P, co owner of this salon, has now chosen to slander me publicly with untruths because i was dissatisfied with my hair. such an interesting business strategy, to trash talk one's customers online. how very special. how would you feel if a business owner trash talked you online for registering complaints about a service gone bad? wanna take the chance? perhaps this is THE BEST REASON TO NEVER SHOP HERE. his attempts to make me sound crazy and unreasonable are almost pitiable, i am just very unhappy with my hair. his words and actions say a lot more about his character than it does mine. says a lot about his business acumen as well. in the interest of setting the record straight... i have no crises in my life, except for my hair which looks like crap at the moment, life is very good! i was specifically told that i should call if i had concerns and they would happily make whatever was wrong, right. when i went in for a fix however, their response was quite different. they were obviously angry and let me know that right up front. david was not in the salon the day i went back in for a fix contrary to how he makes it sound. i did supposedly receive a refund of 1/2 my $200, my bank has not yet verified that.....its not enough to pay for a fix at another salon but it was better than no refund at all. the stylist, who did a good job waxing my eyebrows and on the haircut, kept the $22 tip i left her. i'll undoubtedly find the right stylist for me at another bumble and bumble salon in boulder ( i had the same stylist for many years with nary a problem before moving to boulder) and move on. and david will remain david and business as usual will proceed at Chicago Hair. best wishes co-owners liz and david, hope that hate-ing on customers thing works out for you. most sincerely, k kimrey read more

Asked for ombré have something else (poor color job will correct elsewhere). I tried to immediately point out areas where he color was choppy and was essentially shushed about it. Also thought I was correcting a bad haircut I got a month earlier but was charged full price. read more

I went to this salon for a color correction and met with Sarah. My hair had just been colored and instead of suggesting a detox shampoo or a few highlights she decided it would be best to lift my whole head/entire color. She took me to the bowl and I'll have nightmares about this forever...my scalp started to burn. She bleached out my entire head...we went back to her chair and my hair was done. Totaled. Destroyed. It felt like the driest straw you can imagine. She could hardly get a brush through it. I almost had a nervous breakdown. Since that time (it's been about 4months) I've probably spent in the neighborhood of $1500 trying to get my hair back. I met with an Aveda salon owner today and he was stupefied by what had been done...the damage is still all there...he told me it was very damaged and had never seen anything like it (mind you, this after 4-5 months of serious repair treatments at other salons and treating it with the utmost TLC). When hair is fried, it's fried. There is no going back. Sarah slapped a few Bumble and Bumble conditioners on before I left but it was like a band-aid for a bullet wound. This was far and away the WORST salon experience of my life (and I've been to dozens). The only thing I'm grateful for is that hair grows back. read more

Splurged for a haircut and glaze color but really got skimped on service. The color ended up fine, and has faded fairly evenly. But even though I paid full price for a cut, the stylist only spent about 2 minutes on my hair. I gave it several weeks before writing this review to see if the cut grew on me, but she hardly did anything- hardly cut the dead ends off and made no effort at shaping. (And the place was empty so I don't know what her hurry was) Really disappointing, but perhaps others will have better luck. Personally, I'll stick to Floyd's and save my money. read more
