Overall Pompadours has a crew of very competent hairstylists for a fair price. Unfortunately, they have a couple problems. The worst is when you specifically ask for certain specific services in order to contain costs, ie, I am over paying $300, so I specify a cut and partial highlights but then the gal adds easily a whole other color of partial highlights and I'm sitting wondering.... Why are you doing this? Oh you must be throwing me some freebies? Because I was very clear and specific about what I wanted ....Wait, that's now a LOT of highlights and what, I'm being up charged ?? Shady business! The other thing I notice is they don't listen well to what I ask for in other ways too- they are like many other hairdressers in that they end up doing what they are most comfortable doing and what they think looks good -ie a bit cookie cutter. It's then up to you to fix it up but later if you feel you can ( sometime I can sometimes I can't!) lol. To be fair- they are on the whole excellent at what they do and again- the prices are fair when they stick to them. And their problems are actually not uncommon to many many salons out there! One gal was bit attitudey with me once but overall, this place is a good resource for getting quality in a kind of popular, middle of the road look that the hairdresser wants to give you. read more

My hair was looking pretty mop-ish when Stephanie took me under her wing. She didn't even wince when I told her that I hadn't had a cut since last April and that sometimes I go years in between! Instead, I got my neck warmed by a towel while my scalp got a sweet massage! In no time, my hair was looking shiny and new. Stephanie is excellent with the fringe, as well! Lovely environment. I think the pictures translate what was done. I called the salon and sent pictures saying that I was not pleased. They offered another cut and I refused (it's so short that only shaving would do).I said that all I wanted is to have my money back. Surprisingly, the stylist called my phone and left me a message telling me that she could tell me how to to style it. Ohhhh... I guess it is the customer fault... that was the last straw for me. I have been a client for a year and I wish I could have taken a picture when I left. Was already awful. With "her styling" .What a great costumer service for 84 dollars. FYI - this salon potentially promotes liable and cyber bullying - read on: Went here after moving to Colorado over a year ago since it is near my family's house. I live 1.5hrs from this salon, but it is near family and received many awards. Being super picky about hair, I only wanted the best and got it for seven months. All good for first 7 months of going: great recovery from highlighting that fried my hair a year ago in Ohio, and best haircut of my life in September. Sadly, this January, things took a turn for the worst when my stylist, Haili did not follow directions to give a blunt bob haircut. This is the same person who did the most perfect haircut in September. I instead now have hair that is longer on the left side, chunky layers that don't blend and an odd layer on the bottom that almost looks like a flip (curvature doesn't follow a bob style). I told her specifically not to do layers and have it all one length and blunt. Even showed her a photo of her own work in September. I did call them back and the manager refunded the service without the tip which I was super happy about. Before this they offered a free service to correct the issues when I return. This almost ended on a pleasant note.... Unfortunately, I have a habit of posting honest yet diplomatic (meaning that honesty is not an insult FYI) reviews on Google. That is when things got strange. I never even said to not go to the salon on Google; just to be cognizant of requesting a more senior stylist for harder cuts like a precise bob. Suddenly a Google Account named "Susan Osborn" reviewed me in a highly defamatory and juvenile manner: "Liz Firtha has a long history of going to hair salons and complaining and getting refunds. She will book appointments at salons not in her immediate area so she can easily call and complain, she will then remove the reviews so leave no trail. Let any other salons in the area know her name and not to book her. -unfortunate family member of big Bertha the fraud Firtha She said she had already done this once here before FYI" I looked up this person's reviews as she seemed to allege knowing me though I do not know her and she only posted one review as of Jan. 22. The one that defamed me. No history before or after. Although I dislike operating on the basis of conjecture, I am concerned someone from the salon, possibly the stylist herself, invented an account to discredit me and damage my Google credibility. I work in cyber security and am trained in identifying fake internet accounts as well as trained in defensive information security practices. Upon consumer protection research, I was informed that spreading liable is potentially illegal. Although it is not possible to prove who set up the fake Google account without help from Google, I would be very cautious before coming here as at least one person on their staff is potentially vengeful against customers. I have contacted the BBB and Google support to help prevent the spread of cyber bullying and liable. I have five years of banking receipts to present in a legal situation proving my ethical consumerism at salons, with this being my first and only legitimate refund. Furthermore I can prove my family's home address very easily in Boulder. This was simply an ugly, reprehensible and potentially illegal slander of an innocent customer posting a comprehensive review. I'm saddened to see the managers of this business believed this fake account so easily, especially since they have records of me paying a paying customer since summer 2020. This is what makes me so concerned regarding their potential collaboration. I do want to place the disclaimer here that this is technically conjecture as I do not have Google's visibility into the origins of the troll account. I paid $100 for a blowout I could have done myself. I was getting photos for graduation day of and was expecting the best for such a memorable moment. Turns out you need to "pay extra" for curls, which they don't state on their website, so the lady just blew it straight. She then proceeded to use her finger to add some curls. I was extremely disappointed and when expressing my concern they did nothing to help and claimed I would need to pay more to have it fixed the way I wanted. They were both incredibly kind and friendly, and the COVID precautions made me feel safe and at ease. I made an appointment weeks in advanced and was canceled on the day of after having taken work off. When I tried to reschedule with another stylist (not even for the same day) they wouldn't honor the price of my original appointment. Love love love. This salon welcomed me to Boulder, CO. from Los Angeles. It's hip, it's fun and everyone is super friendly. It's located on the busy and historic Pearl Street Mall, but upstairs inside a building between 13th and 14th. This puts it right in the best spot but away from the craziness. Every stylist is knowledgeable and talented. Can't go wrong with a single one of them. I get my hair colored by Brandon, my cut by Katie and have had various styles done by Minhwa. Brandon always pin points whatever crazy color requests I have and is an absolute delight to spend time with. Katie just gets it when I talk to her about my likes and dislikes. And Minhwa is a very talented stylist that can execute a look precisely. I'm so glad I found Pompadours. The staff makes the experience even better then any old hair experience. A week ago was my first and my last visit at this salon. I'm from out of town, my daughter lives in Boulder. I visit about 4 times a year. Twice a week I like to have my hair done at a salon for a shampoo, blow dry with flatiron. I'm amazed how many stylists don't know how to do what I consider a basic 101 service. My hair is layered and hits longest midway down my back. It started off okay, greeted, offered a scalp massage before the shampoo. Okay... she pulls out her blow dryer, it's a little bigger then my travel dryer. It has no extension nozzle, which I hate having heat that close to my head. She proceeds to dry my hair only with her fingers, never uses a brush until she starts to prep for the flatiron. (What)! I also have naturally wavy hair. If my hair is not dried, it will start getting wavy within a hour or so. I proceed to watch her straighten my hair going over one piece 7-10 times every time. I can smell my hair burning. I said something to her and she said no it's fine. This is how I straighten everyone's hair. Seriously, shame on me for continuing to sit in her chair. I can't remember her name, I believe it starts with an S', she said she has been with the salon 5 years and she has 2 kids. Of course, my hair got fuller by the time I got to my daughters house. Also, shocked at the price, yelp said 2 star on price, yet I was charged $65. I consider this high! I normally pay $45-50 in Boulder. Very unsatisfied and still mad at myself for allowing. read more

Maybe this was just my experience with one person, but I recently decided to try it out. Normally, hair salons are fine saying their prices upfront so it was weird this salon refused over the phone or at the desk. They booked a consultation first, and the lady there wanted to charge me upwards of 600 for a cut, and for a color correction. I was beyond mortified. As a student I could never afford that. Found another good salon where the same service cost $180. I will probably never go back. read more

The front desk was very accommodating with a last minute appointment, and as a result I met my new go-to stylist! Stephanie Marie listened to exactly what I wanted, took the lead on the things I didn't really have a preference on and went out of her way to protect my 'X-Men Rogue streak' while coloring my hair. Plus, her hair is fabulous which is always a comfort when trying out a new person =). After clearly expressing what I wanted for color, Minhwa, the stylist who was highly recommended to me, did not do as I asked. By the 3rd or 4th time I explained what I wanted she laughed and continued coloring my hair. 3-4 days later, just before my birthday sadly, 90% of the color had gone from my hair, leaving the gray that I had been trying to cover. After calling and speaking with several ladies at the salon, I was advised to come in for Minhwa and the owner or manager to see. Not able to make it on the day they suggested, I called the following day to arrange to meet with them, and was told there would be no reimbursement as I had not come in when they said. I called few weeks ago to make an appointment with a man. I was very clear that I didn't want a woman - I have very short hair and had too many time woman that were not able or "comfortable" to cut very short hair that I decided a few years ago to have only man hairdresser. I also wanted to have someone with lot of experience. I had to wait 2+ weeks to get an appointment with the owner but fine, I can wait to obtain what I want. What a bad surprise to arrive for the appointment and discover that they changed the hairdresser for a woman without notifying me! I came to Pompadours follow MY girl... aka my stylist Amanda. I have NEVER had a bad cut or color from Amanda and I love that she is an Aveda stylist. She always has a "vision" for my cut and knows what she wants it to look like and what would look best on me. We have done super long hair to short, highlights, all over color, and everything in between. I found a good stylist. It seems that these other reviewers happened to stumble into a bad stylist... so then don't go back. As for the general Pompadours experience, I have always been treated wonderfully by the staff and owner. A prompt glass of water or tea, nice conversation with the awesome male receptionist... I really enjoy going here. I just wish it was closer to home but weekend hours make it possible. So look, if you don't want to pay for a hair cut or quality products, or have the patience to create a relationship with a stylist, you may have a bad experience. Not just here, any high class salon. I learned 5 years ago that great clips prices weren't going to cut it if I wanted a quality cut and style. Oh and yes, you have to pay for parking. It's like $3... unless you come on a Sunday when parking in Boulder is free or if you want to park in the residential area and walk a bit. It is the same in Denver or NYC... if I go to a salon in a city with parking meters, you can't get a validation... unless they have a relationship with a parking garage which isn't always common. What I love about her is that she gets to work immediately on the relationship- which is so important in getting the amazing hair you want. If you're adventurous she will suggest something fresh and funky, and she will create something perfect if a new color or radical change isn't your style. I was recently in Boulder on business and stayed at a hotel with a chemical problem with their pool. Imagine my shock when I returned to my hotel suite to find my professionally done highlights sporting a green tinge. The clerk at the desk recommended two salons, but since my salon at home uses Aveda products, I decided to call Pompadours. I was impressed that they could get me an appointment THAT DAY, but also very grateful...the person I talked to on the phone was VERY understanding about having to get my new green hair fixed ASAP. A stylist stayed past her shift time to accomodate me. My hair is BEAUTIFUL and I didn't not have to wear a hat to my conference. I could not have asked for better service. On my return home, I had all the information of what was done to fix my hair on a card to give to my stylist (given to me by the stylist at Pompadours) who was also shocked I got such quality service with such short notice. I am in Boulder at least twice a year, and would GLADLY come back! read more

So I'm from California and came out here for college and was looking for a hair salon. All the reviews were good so I went here. The whole vibe was super good the people inside are super nice and the salon was super cute. I asked for a trim and to touch up on my long layers, but after I showered and straightened my hair it looked so bad. The "layers" were a straight line across at my chin and then the test of my hair was normal. The two sides were lopsided and it looked so bad. I would understand if this was like super cuts or something but I paid $110 dollars and left a $20 dollar tip to get my hair butchered. I'm honestly so upset with how it turned out and would not recommend this place for a cut. I don't know about color but maybe try somewhere else if you care about your hair a lot. read more

I always look forward to my haircuts with my stylist of probably around 2 years, Andrea. I put my trust in her completely and have never had a disappointing cut or style. The prices at Pompadours are a little high, but because I get such great cuts, I can get away with taking more time in between appointments (10 weeks). In fact, I have received many compliments on my hair even a couple months after previous cuts. Other things to note: I appreciate the appointment reminder calls I get before each appointment. It's really hard to reschedule though - I guess that's the price you pay for having a stylist who has a steady stream of clients. Acoustically, the salon is pretty noisy and it can be a little difficult at times to pay attention to or hear my own conversation with Andrea. As Talia mentioned, parking is not free. I tend to schedule my appointments on weekdays after 5pm and find that I have pretty good luck parking on Spruce OR parking by the downtown post-office and walking several blocks (luckily the walk is an enjoyable one). Very warm receptionist. I am always greeted warmly and never feel like I've been forgotten about. Bottom line: I will continue to frequent Pompadours as long as Andrea works there. read more

I got a gift card to Pompadours Hair Salon for my birthday, and while I hadn't necessarily been thinking about getting a haircut, I thought I might as well since it was already paid for! My stylist was Eileen, and she did a fantastic job. I came in before my actual appointment for a (free) quick consultation, where we discussed my different options and decided on a direction. I was considering a shorter look, but Eileen asked me some questions that I didn't even consider when thinking on my own that ultimately led to my decision to keep it long. I really appreciated the direction - I always ask stylists for their legitimate opinion on what I should do, and most of them tend to beat around the bush and give the "Oh, well, it's whatever YOU want..." line. When I returned a few days later for my actual appointment, my haircut couldn't have gone better. Eileen did a great job. Granted, I'm not the most complicated customer in the world - just a cut, no hair dye or anything fancy - but it was well-executed and has been very easy to maintain. Unlike other salons I've gone to in the past, there was no pressure in the end to buy their hair products, which was incredibly refreshing. Overall, I had a great experience at Pompadours and would highly recommend. My impression was that they more or less specialize in the more adventurous looks - crazy cuts, bright colors - but they can do the more classic cuts and styles flawlessly as well. Note that if you need a rework for either cut or color they are very accommodating and always aim to please. I started going here about two years ago. I am Black American and I rock a natural so Denver had not been an option for me and Aurora turned out to be too much of a drive. Plus none of my previous stylist(all Black) knew how to trim my hair. EVERYONE I went to at Pompadours could do my hair. But, I settled on this Korean stylist there. She really knew black hair and I left her chair always looking good and my hair feeling so soft and conditioned and healthy.
