Hello Earlier today, as a birthday gift to myself, I decided to pamper myself and get my first ever bikini wax. Brazil on the Hill received some pretty good reviews and it was close by, so I put my faith in them to rip out my hair. Getting an appointment was super easy, but when I got there, I was left waiting for around 10 minutes after my appointment time. I filled out the sheet saying specifically that I have sensitive skin. Once Katie came to take me to one of the back rooms, I explained to her that it was my first time ever getting waxed anywhere except my eyebrows. She told me we would do just a regular bikini at first instead of a full brazilian which sounded good to me. There was no consultation other than her telling me to keep my dress on and take off my panties and put them on the chair. Katie came back in and without letting me explain what I wanted, she started putting hot wax on my upper bikini line. And I commented, "ow, the wax is hot" and she didn't say anything about it. She proceeded to use a strip to rip my poor little hairs out. I've read a lot online on how you should always use hard wax on the bikini line, especially for sensitive skin, because it doesn't remove a layer of skin. There was no mention of what kind of wax used here on the website, waiver, or in person. The heat made me very uncomfortable and my skin is very irritated. When the first strip was pulled, I vocalized my pain, and Katie told me to be quiet because they "have other customers". In between strips, I tried to tell Katie what I wanted, and she told me that with my length of hair, what I wanted would look weird. I felt very uncomfortable by her saying that, because it seemed very judgmental, and people online say that esthetician should not be judgmental is because it is their job to look at people's private parts. I should not have felt embarrassed about my body when someone is doing something very personal for my body. The wax continued to feel very hot on my sensitive skin. Katie went back over places multiple times with more wax strips which is dangerous because it removes a layer of skin every time. Hard wax can be used over spots multiple times but not soft wax (which again, was not advertised). When she was done with the regular bikini, she asked me to sit up and look at what I have to see if I wanted to continue with a brazilian or an extended bikini. My skin was sticking to itself because it still had wax residue on it, which was painful on my red, bleeding, sensitive skin. When I said I was done, Katie (very aggressively) rubbed oil into my freshly waxed skin and I vocalized "that hurts" and she did not respond. Once she was done, she just walked out. No words on aftercare, or if I was even ready to go and put on my panties again on my bleeding, oily skin. I would have loved to hear about aftercare from a professional to avoid ingrown hairs because I'm susceptible to them, but I didn't get any assistance. For a first timer, it was not the best way to end an appointment. Luckily I did get the 50% discount for being a new customer, but even the $18 I spent was not worth all the pain and discomfort (both physically and emotionally) I went through for a gift for myself on my birthday. EDIT I got a call earlier today from Katie herself apologizing for the service I received and she offered a full refund. I still didn't get the service I wanted or expected, but I added a star for the attempt to fix it. read more

I had gone here once before and was really impressed with the way my eyebrows looked. But today I got my brows done for graduation, and I have never been more displeased with the result of a wax before. I had Katie, and she removed too much hair in all the wrong places (in between my eyebrows and at the ends) and left them too thick in the middle. I absolutely hate the way they look. I came here for a brazilian about a month ago, and would only come back or recommend this place to people who are looking for convenience. The location is easy to walk to from campus or the hill, but that's about all it offers. I found my wax pretty painful even though this wasn't my first time, and the receptionist was a young college student who was rude and distant. I called ahead of time and was told that new clients receive 50% off their first wax, but when I went to pay at the end I was told they don't offer this discount. I always love seeing Randi for any waxing needs, but she was out this week, so I made an eyebrow wax appt with Julie. Her pressure on my face and waxing technique seemed a bit rougher than what I'm used to, and I now have a scab forming under one of my eyebrows where the wax was to show for it =/ It's been pretty painful to the touch for the last day, not to mention it was NOT a cute look during the business meetings I had today. I usually have no issues when Randi or other salons have done routine eyebrow waxing. I won't be going back in the future unless I can get in with Randi! read more

Wow! I loved my experience at this place! I live in Denver and happened to be working in Boulder the day before a trip and was able to book an appointment while I was there. This is one of my favorite waxing experiences, I plan on driving to Boulder just to get waxed at Brazil on the Hill. I had Julie and she was very welcoming, professional, and personable. The environment of the studio is very clean and authentic! I appreciate the use and quality of their natural products. They offer a numbing serum before appointment so I recommend showing up about 10-15 minutes early! It helped a lot! Julie was precise with her work and made wonderful conversation throughout (which always help me keep my mind off the uncomfortable parts of waxing) my skin is also very sensitive and had no negative reactions to their products/ wax. There are a lot of waxing options in Boulder so value is very important to me. At Brazil on the Hill, I always receive excellent service for a very reasonable price. I've been coming for about three years now for eyebrow waxing. They use a very gentle wax and the estheticians are skilled. The whole process is quick and as minimal pain as possible. I also appreciate that they ask about your brow shape preference before waxing away. Could not have had a better experience! First of all the shop is absolutely adorable. Has a very classic, vintage boutique look that I loved. They have a little stand with water and tea, tea was great and exactly what I needed after being out in the cold. The receptionist was very friendly, since it was my first time getting a Brazilian I was given free numbing gel which I really appreciated. Waited a couple minutes then was taken back by Julie Cool to get my Brazilian. I didn't really know what to expect as I had never been professionally waxed before, but Julie was friendly and efficient. She did an excellent job and although it hurt a bit (as wax does) she made me feel much better about it. Will absolutely return next time I get a wax or to get my nails done, as they have a new nail technician who Julie introduced my friend and I to. The few bad reviews seem to have to do with the customer service, but I thought it was absolutely excellent, and regardless, this is the place to go for a quality wax. read more

Ladies and gentlemen... If you want the BEST of the BEST, Amanda is where it's at. I was quite skeptical about the whole waxing idea until I started hearing about how amazing Amanda was. I lost my Brazilian waxing virginity to her and I wouldn't have wanted it any other way... I was hooked! She made me feel so comfortable and carefree, it felt like she was my long lost best friend. Unfortunately, Amanda has moved on to bigger and better things and I cannot find anyone that compares to her... seriously! If you are lucky enough to have her expertise in your town, you better utilize it. I promise you, you will never look for anyone else! Not to mention, her facials are to DIE for! I'm giving two stars because I think their services are good, but their customer service is a disaster. I went for a first time waxing appointment and booked with Amanda, based on her amazing reviews here. That treatment was quick and easy and I really liked her. I had every intention of going back and seeing her regularly. Then I received an email from Brazil on the Hill saying that two of their estheticians, including Amanda, had moved on. They were offering their clients 50% off their next service to transition to another esthetician. This was a nice gesture, but when they sent out this email, they exposed their customer's email addresses because the email wasn't sent out with everyone BCC'd. This is a massive violation of privacy and when I contacted them about it, I got a half-apology about how Hotmail had messed up. I waited a few weeks to think about it and decided to book another waxing appointment using my coupon. I booked in and saw Katie, who I think is a great new addition to their team. She was fast, friendly, and professional. I started to think that maybe I could see her regularly, despite my initial anger about having my privacy violated in their email blast. When I went to pay, I presented my coupon to the girl at the front desk. The girl pulled up my profile and said that the coupon wasn't really meant for me, since I had only seen Amanda once, and that she would have to charge me full price. I told her I had received it via email, and not only that, but that my email address had been exposed and my privacy violated when it was sent to me. She briefly addressed the privacy violation by saying something like, "Yes, a few customers brought that to our attention." She proceed to argue with me, saying that the coupon was worded in such a way that I should have known it was just for their more regular customers. I literally read the coupon in front of her again, which said NOTHING about "regular customers" or about any threshold you had to meet in order to get the discount. She said that there wasn't anyone else I could talk to about it there that evening, that she really wasn't supposed to give me the discount, and she would have to charge me full price. I was incredibly angry at this point. I said I could come back in the morning and talk to someone about it, since they keep credit card information on file, and she said she wasn't allowed to do that, either. Then she said that the computer system wouldn't let her give me the discount. I said again that I wasn't going to accept that the coupon wasn't "meant" for me, and she started fiddling around with the computer screen and their payment system for a long time looking for an alternative. The whole time, she kept saying she wasn't supposed to do that and hoped she didn't get in trouble for it. When she finally managed to charge me for the discounted amount, said something like, "Well, maybe I can just say that you will be a regular customer in the future!" Not likely. It was an incredibly frustrating and disappointing experience, especially because the two estheticians I saw were both really great. However, that's not enough of a reason for me to keep going back and to be treated so poorly on a customer service level. It literally took me longer to pay for my service than it did to have my Brazilian wax done. It's completely unprofessional to violate the privacy of your customers and then to tell them that the coupon they sent to you wasn't actually intended for them anyways. I'll be taking my business elsewhere in the future. read more
