Truly, the most AWFUL hair experience of my life. I've been a longtime customer here. Since my fave stylist Ramon left, I thought I'd go see David for a simple trim. What a mistake. He barely washed my hair. He didn't bother to help dry my hair, so it ran all down my shirt when I stood up. He kept yanking the brush through my wet hair and smacking me in the head with it too, it really hurt! He dropped the comb on the dirty floor like five times & then would keep using it. He took my long, silky hair and gave me the most awful, uneven, choppy cut. It will take half the year to grow out what he did. He also burned my scalp about three times with the hairdryer. He was so out of it & hostile with how hard he was yanking my hair. When he ultimately swiveled me around to look in the mirror afterwards, he didn't even line it up so I could see the back of it. It was like a drunken, 5-year-old child was playing hairdresser on my head. Throughout the cut, he would also just randomly walk away. Honestly, he was either really hungover or actively drunk (at 9am in the morning). We called about an hour later to politely check on him (in case it was a some sort of neurological issue). He hung up on my partner. The worst part is, there is now one to complain to (that I was charged for an abusive, chop-shop cut) because he is the owner of the whole place. No refund for enduring his abuse and an awful, awful cut, And, since I am disabled, I cannot afford to pay to have someone fix the terrible job he did... Please, for your own safety, STAY AWAY from this salon until he gets his life together again or gets help (or whatever it is he needs). read more

On Broadway is more than a hair salon to me, though that is what brings me through the doors. It is a creative experience enjoyed upon the moveable and ever changeable canvas of my hair. The salon is truly a gorgeous destination, boasts a beautiful courtyard seen through large windows from my comfortable salon chair (each mirrored station an antique work of art as well.) The landscaped courtyard is complete with a fountain, and the patio offers an alternative hair color/cut experience on warmer days. I find that working with a hair stylist is actually a tricky relationship. I am spending an hour or two at a time with someone in my space and strands, it's pretty intimate, and I want an artist that is responsive to my specific needs (to change, to color, how much, how little, to stay the same, to be bold, to be tame.) He/she has to speak a language of translating my desires of the moment into sharp cuts and specific colors and also tactfully sharing what is professionally possible and what is not. In addition, I want someone that I can trust, relax with, enjoy, someone that can work with the nuances of who I am at that moment in the chair (do I need quiet, do I need intelligent conversation?) I find these needs met here. The small but also valuable details are not ignored either: do I want that cup of tea or coffee that is offered at the door? The music, always perfect. The art gallery? Eye candy. Well, of course. And actually, quite important to me, Aveda quality products, right? I love the Aveda products. I find all of these personal desires met at On Broadway. And though I have only had the pleasure of working with David, my bet is the other stylists are equally skilled and in sync with the professional environment in which they express their art on each head of hair. And my hair, you ask? ... a statement of white curls that I am not quite ready to stand under ... so I move from covering each hair completely in one color to streaking them with multiple shades for contrast and definition ... I stray from wanting that look of long and wild to just this short of sassy. I'm always challenging David, and he's always delivering with ease, elegance, and experience. Kai did my highlights and I was shocked by the results. I didn't notice it until a friend told me how terrible it looked from behind. As you can see by the photos, it's very uneven throughout. I called to try to get a refund and unfortunately I had to argue with them a bit to get my money back. I had to get my hair completely redone and even still you can see a little bit of unevenness. I would absolutely not recommend getting your hair done here if you want to avoid something like this. read more

I rarely go to the same salon twice, but I had never sought out the same hairstylist twice until I was scheduled with Kai at the end of last year. Since my initial appointment, I have been back to him once already and recommended him to a friend who also plans on making future appointments with him at On Broadway Salon. Inside, there are gorgeous antique vanities that make On Broadway unlike any other salon I have been to because their attention to detail in creating a welcoming, professional, clean, unique environment makes the experience of getting your hair done here special. Furthermore, the cuts Kai has done for me have transformed my hair in the sense that it feels healthier, shinier, and stronger than it ever has. I can't say enough good things about this salon and I cannot wait until the next time I need to get my haircut. They bragged that they were the oldest Aveda salon in the country. But that didn't give them the talent to do a simple base job. The stylist thought he knew everything but he did a lousy job on my roots. He didn't follow the formula provided by my LA stylist and did his own thing. His application was careless and sophomoric. Three days later the roots are already showing! What an idiot. I'll never go back there. read more

I had a wax here that mostly resulted in half stubble, half first-layer-of-skin-coming-off. Having had waxes before, I know that I have the least sensitive skin ever; usually I have no problems and my skin hardly even turns red. So I'm not sure what the difference is between those waxes and this one - the wax felt the same and the technique felt the same - but whatever it is, it does NOT work on me. I'm pretty put out because, as my fellow waxers well know, if you end up with stubble, you have to shave, and if you have to shave, it's tough to get waxed again. So even though On Broadway graciously gave me a refund when I asked for one, and I really appreciate that... the consequences of a bad wax reach further than the cost of the bad wax. I'd recommend Trista at Waxing the City. I strayed from her because On Broadway had a sale listed in the paper and I am a slut for deals (as anyone who follows my reviews well knows) but I learned my lesson. read more

Left me sitting in the chair and charged me more after I got home! I was here almost a year ago. I was getting my haircut. My hair was still damp and unfinished looking. The stylist mumbled something and walked away. I thought she was going to get a product, finally she walked out from the back room because someone saw me sitting there. She asked if I needed something, I said I thought you'd finish my hair, she said she was done and in the back eating lunch. Weird. It gets worse, once I got home I got a phone call from the receptionist, she said she didn't charge me the right amount and needed me to pay an additional $10. I said I live 30 miles away, and she asked for my credit card number. She apologized and said she was new. Really? don't you think they should have just written that off. The haircut wasn't anything special for the price. I never went back. I just drove by it and make me remember this terrible experience. read more

I had my first facial ever with Heather at On Broadway. I had no idea what to expect or do. She was accommodating and very informative. The facial was an incredible experience and so relaxing. Also, when I left, my skin never looked better. I'm considering the monthly services because the results are great. If you're in the Boulder area and needing a facial, ask for Heather. Since I didn't go home for the holidays, I needed to get my haircut here in town and I've never had my haircut in Boulder before so I did a bit of research. I chose Elizabeth because she used to work for Jose Eber in LA. (Come and find out that was for one year in the 1980s, but I didn't know that before I went in). The receptionist was welcoming and friendly, no strange attitude, just nice. Elizabeth is a very friendly and quite a talkative person with a cute accent. When I went in she was running late (and oh so apologetic). She was dressed in a Dirndl-like outfit with accompanying two braids -- cute and eccentric, reminded me of home. I prefer salons that have you change out of your top and put on a robe thus preventing you from having to walk around getting poked by little hairs in your clothes all day long. Alas, at On Broadway, the robe is put on over your top which unfortunately didn't prevent those itchy hairs from getting into my top. Elizabeth spent a good amount of time with me, finding out what I wanted, making sure she didn't over do. I appreciate the extra time (though I wonder if that might be why she had to leave me to apologize to her next customer for being late). Elizabeth is very attentive, bordering on overly talkative, but sweet. I wanted to love the haircut (below the shoulders, long layers for my slightly wavy/sometimes nearly straight hair) and while I don't hate it, it's okay. I liked it in the salon -- looked much healthier, but I've had difficulty styling it myself. If I was to give it a grade, I'd give it a C+. I paid $50 and see that other shops cost less. I wouldn't say the cut was worth the price, since the cut was just ok. I'll try some other local salon next time. read more

I've gotten a massage here two different times, with two different people, and they were hands-down the two best massages I have EVER received. They were both 1-hour massages. My first one was with Roxanna, and my most recent one was with Joan. I think I will talk more about Joan because it's fresher in my memory, but I also remember loving Roxanna's massage too! Joan started by applying firm finger pressure on my spine, neck, and shoulders, she said that she was trying to see where I was tight / problem areas. It felt really good! Then she went through the usual full-body massage, and I could tell that she was very experienced and skillful. Everything felt soooo nice, my nerves/muscles even tingled a couple times :) I love that feeling... I also told her before the massage that I would like her to focus on my legs because I'm most active there, and I really liked her technique of raising and bending my legs in order to get a better massage into them, loosen them up, or whatever the massage-terminology might be :) I love the addition of the aromatherapy oils (I always choose the peppermint, it just smells so invigorating and refreshing, and is apparently good for sore muscles). I also love the hot towels that they place on your feet when massaging your legs. The salon/spa itself is nice because it's tucked away from the bustle of Pearl Street, in a quiet side road near the canyon. Going there always feels like a special little private retreat :) The spa rooms are softly lit, warm, and there are heated massage tables so it's just such a relaxing, quiet experience. They are also quite separate from the salon area which is nice. I will definitely be back! read more

I've had my hair cut by Corey at On Broadway for about 4 years now. He always does an excellent job. He is extremely attentive to details, and always goes out of his way to make it a pleasant experience. My hair styling always garners compliments from family and friends after my appointments. So far, I have never been disappointed. The front desk staff are professional, and I appreciate the fact that they call the day before to remind me of my appointment. I also go to On Broadway for massage therapy. My therapist, Ande, is one of the best I have ever had. The treatment is a combination of deep tissue massage, accupressure, swedish relaxation, cranial-sacral, and aromatherapy. Her technique is excellent, and I am alway greatly improved in terms of body-awareness and general relaxation afterwards. She is always very attentive to my particular needs during any give session, and I greatly appreciate the gentleness of her approach. Again, I have never been disappointed. read more

My family was looking a little shaggy after months of avoiding hair salons due to Covid. I was excited to see this salon offers outdoor haircuts on the patio and booked appointments for my husband and three kids. The patio is beautiful with mountain views, sitting in a garden while you get your hair done. Kai did a great job! My kids are young, ages 1,3, and 5, and he was so patient with them! Need a bikini wax? Best Brazilian ever - well, admittedly, it was my first full Brazilian. I've been getting bikini waxes for years now and I finally decided to try having the whole region waxed. Even though I moved to California 3 years ago, I still go to On Broadway when I visit Boulder because their waxing is the best I've found. The last time I was there in April '09, I saw Susan R. for my Brazilian. She was AWESOME. She'd clearly been doing this for years and new exactly how to make a first-time-Brazilian as comfortable as possible. The salon uses a wax for sensitive skin, even if you don't have sensitive skin (which I do) and perhaps that's why my skin wasn't very irritated after. I've had no ingrown hairs, which I almost always do. This really is the place to have your waxing needs met. And like I said, Susan was great. Very professional, quick & thorough. She explained what to expect in terms of sensitivity and how to soothe the skin. I hope to see her again when I return to Boulder. read more

I've been happy with this place both times I got my hair cut. Just came from there this afternoon, quite pleased with the new do. This is an Aveda salon, so they only use Aveda products. The shampoo smells amazing, not sure what exactly it is. It's very nice and quaint, and they have complimentary tea and coffee. The location is a little funny- it's in a very residential area so it takes awhile to get there. I can't quite figure out if I like or dislike that- it does make the salon nice and hidden. read more

Wow! Jenny Wright rocks! I came in for a free consultation about what I would like to do to my locks and Jenny took the time to get to know my hair and give suggestions. When it was time for my haircut appointment, she washed and conditioned my hair and gave me a scalp massage at the same time. She gave me a cut that was totally easy to fix and maintain on my own and she dried and styled it for me while I was there. I have to say that I was VERY pleased with her and will continue to return! I am very pleased with my experience at On Broadway today. I called when they opened and they were able to book me for both a haircut and a massage a few hours later. Ramon did an excellent job with my hair- I am growing out and asymmetrical pixie and also need something low maintenance. He not only gave me exactly what I requested, he also gave me multiple expert tips on how to quickly style my hair. He was easy to talk to and laid back, two qualities I need in a stylist. I also had a massage that was relaxing, however I would have preferred a deeper pressure (I am not good at speaking up about these things on my own). Prices were also very reasonable. Five stars for my haircuts with Teri, minus a star for so-so spa services. Teri is the sweetest and so talented at what she does. I have been to too many high end salons where the stylists are snobs. I don't pay extra to be treated like crap. This salon is beautiful, I feel pampered when I come in, and the staff I have dealt with have all been very kind and down to earth. I find the prices to be pretty reasonable for the level of service and talent, and the space is really bright, clean and tasteful. I have also had a wax and massage here, and these were just so-so, but my haircuts with Teri have been awesome. read more

I've been getting my haircut done by Amanda for a while, and when she moved to On Broadway I started to get my hair done here. The salon has a very relaxed atmosphere with free tea and coffee (the peppermint and licorice tea is amazing!). Everyone I've interacted with has been very chill and sweet. There is some very cool sculptures placed throughout the salon (which are for sale, but a little out of my price range) The first time I got my hair cut by Amanda it was to my waist. I wanted something different so I got a pixie like cut with shaved sides. I loved the cut so much I've been going back to her ever since. Best facial ever! I had a terrible breakout on my forehead (the kind that looks and feels like Mt. St. Helens) and Meagan suggested a natural plant based peel with my facial. The breakout was noticeably calmer by the time I was checking out and was completely unnoticeable by the next day. I was at this hair studio recommended by a friend. My hair turned out nice and my stylist was friendly. However the owner of the salon fired an employee in the middle of the salon in front of the guests! When I looked at my stylist with huge eyes, she shrugged her shoulders. I was appalled. When I later told my friend this she said the owner is very rude and condescending to his female employees and doesn't seem to care who is listening . The first time I got my hair cut here it was great. This last time, a few weeks ago, the stylist obviously didn't hear a thing I said. All I wanted was a trim of the cut I already had. She took off 2 inches more than I requested and them proceeded to start chopping make it all different lengths - it was just suppose to be a bobb all one length - not rocket science! It is SO SHORT I can't pull it back or do anything with it other than hide it under a scarf or a hat. I HATE the cut. It isn't at all what I asked for and she had given me the cut I asked for the previous time! I will NEVER go back there. I could have gotten a better cut at Super Cuts and paid WAY less. read more

I recently got married in Boulder Co, and planned our wedding from out of state. We are from California and I was unable to do a trial run on my hair and makeup which made me a little nervous. On a whim I found On Broadway Salon online and booked my appointment for myself and my family and friends. I'm so glad I did! They were wonderful! And the spa is beautiful inside and outside right along the mountains. They were very professional and as soon as I walked in my nerves were settled and I knew I was in good hands! Hair and makeup are one of the most important things on your wedding day and I loved both!! We even by chance had the salon to ourselves and I was so thankful for that and to have that experience with my friends! My girlfriends loved the place! My friends brought champagne and when it ran out one of the employees was kind enough to go out and grab us another bottle! While it was hailing no less!
