We had a great experience at The Second Owl! We were seated right away, and our waitress, Shanon, was friendly, attentive, and provided excellent service throughout our meal. The food was delicious. We especially enjoyed the Pad See Ew and the Thai tea. Everything came out fresh and flavorful. Great food, great service, and a welcoming atmosphere. We will definitely be back!

First time at Second Owl here at Belmont. I've tried Owl Owl in the past in Signal Hill and liked it so was craving for good savory Thai food and decided to stop by Second Owl. I got drunken noodle with crispy pork and sea bass larb take-outs. The drunken noodle was very flavorful, love that wok fire flavor. The crispy pork earned its name and it was crisp to the tip! So crunch, I wish there were more of it. The sea bass larb was full of flavor, fresh, citrusy, paired very well with the shrimp chips. The service was great and it didn't take too long to wait for my food. They also have a restroom for customers only and it's around the corner of the restaurant. Highly recommend!

I've ordered from "The Second Owl" a couple times, but this was my first time dining in the space is small, but not cramped, and the mixed materials on the walls is cute and warm. Service was prompt, friendly, and very efficient. I ordered the lunch special, with the Tom Kha soup, and Pad See Ew with tofu. I also ordered the duck spring rolls to give them a try (I usually order veggie). The soup was piping hot, and had enough mushrooms, tomatoes, and cilantro to make for a good opener. The soup is light, sour in the best way, and creamy. The spring rolls were also ridiculously fresh, ULTRA crunchy, and served split, so I joked that they reminded me of bone marrow. They are hearty but not overpowering, and VERY STURDY. Not light and crisp, but crunchy enough to hold up to the meat, which is savory and has a good black pepper kick. Finally, their pad see ew is my favorite in Long Beach. Glossy, tangy noodles with a salty, savory mix of egg, greens, and perfectly soft tofu. I had to ask for some spice to add (I love spicy!) but that was my fault- I should've spoken up when I ordered. Overall - a great place for probably 1-6 in a group. How lucky I am to have The Second Owl so close to my home!

The Second Owl seriously hit the spot. Here's the official breakdown of how I'm ranking the dishes we tried. Marry: The pork larb. No hesitation. This was the star. So fresh with lime and herbs, perfectly balanced heat, and the shrimp chips added that perfect crunch. The night before we watched Matty Matheson's Just a Dash and he made larb, which totally sparked my interest! This is the dish I would come back for again and again. F: The pork belly. Crispy on the outside, buttery tender on the inside. It did exactly what it was supposed to do and did it well. Rich, satisfying, and a little indulgent. Kill: The chicken satay. And I say that with respect because it was still good. That peanut sauce was creamy, savory, and slightly sweet in the best way. Unique from other peanut sauces for sure. But compared to the other two dishes, it just did not steal the spotlight. Someone had to go. Service was excellent and the presentation of each dish was beautiful. You can tell they really care about what they are putting out. The interior was nice and modern. Everything came out in a timely fashion and was great from start to finish. I will definitely be back for more larb and to work my way through the other menu items!

A Yelp Elite event brought me to this cool little boutique restaurant. It has a simple, industrial style decor, with a few large garage style doors that open up and make the space feel bigger and more open. The staff and service were good everyone was nice and friendly. We did not have a reservation and waited no more than five minutes to be seated (around 630p on a Saturday), but it quickly filled after we arrived. It seats only about 50 diners. Food, we ordered a fresh green salad, chicken wings and duck egg rolls fir appetizers, snd Owl Fried Rice, and crab with Thai chili and basil as shareable entrees. I had a beer with my meal, and my wife had the sangria. The kitchen flow/timing was a bit off. After our order was taken, we waited about 15 - 20 minutes before the first appetizer came out. As we worked through the appetizers, the Owl Fried Rice arrived. About halfway through the rice, I realized I never got my beer and had to ask for it (I think it was forgotten). We were nearly done with the rice and still hadn't received the crab dish, so I asked the waitress about it. She looked surprised and said she'd check on it. About 5-10 minutes later, the crab dish finally came out. My wife's second sangria was comped due to this error. Let's talk about the food: Green salad - Good and fresh. Did exactly what a salad should do. Wings - Excellent. Well seasoned and cooked perfectly. Three wings - portion was smaller than typical, as this was part of the Yelp comp. A normal app is 5 wings. Duck egg rolls - Great flavor, but the wrapper was a little thick and dense. Owl Fried Rice - Really good overall. The curry flavor comes through strong in a good way. My only issue was that there was just one shrimp in the whole dish. Maybe go lighter on the pineapple and add more shrimp. Crab with Thai chili and basil - Excellent. The flavors and preparation were on point. Despite the delays, this was still a pleasant experience. I'll definitely return and would recommend checking this place out. If the weather's nice, I suggest grabbing a patio seat (there are only nine).

I had wanted to try this restaurant for a while, and today my son treated me for Mother's Day for lunch. Our experience exceeded expectations. We were warmly greeted by our server, Ammara who was attentive throughout our meal. The space has a modern and warm vibe, and the food is incredible. For drinks, we ordered the Thai Tea and Thai coffee. The coffee was great. I would have liked the tea to be stronger, though it had great flavor. We began with the Baan Yaang appetizer. It has one skewer each of filet, chicken, and pork accompanied by 3 sauces and a garnish. The filet is marinated and was absolutely delicious on its own. The peanut sauce for the chicken was tasty. I preferred the sweeter sauce for the pork. It also came with a diced cucumber/red onion garnish, which I enjoyed on its own. For our main course, we chose Crab with Thai Chili and Basil along with Owl Fried Rice. Both were so satisfying. Although we were both pretty full, we finished our meal off with the Mango Sticky Rice. They put a special touch on it, decorating the plate with "Happy Mother's Day!" We will definitely be back.

Great Thai food! Great addition to Second Street/Belmont shore. We decided to try something new and happy we did! Second Owl is cute staff is friendly and knowledgeable. The pad Thai amazing, our appetizer egg rolls so yummy. Happy hour has great pricing - can't wait to go back for their sangria. They allow dogs on their sidewalk dining area - parking is typical of the Belmont shore area.

A rare find!! A unique Thai place in this very crowded Belmont shore neighborhood. Located on the corner. There is street parking all over. Solid thai place on 2nd street. Some great dishes, some that were just so so but overall a great, somewhat affordable, Thai option around 2nd street. We came for lunch with a group of 5 and ordered the pork belly appetizer, larb, thai boat, pad thai, pad see ew, and thai crab. The pork belly was delicious. Not too fatty but just enough to give it that rich flavor. Nicely crisped without being greasy. There was a fish sauce-dipping sauce that went really well with it. A crowd favorite. The larb was tangy and refreshing. The seasonings overpowered the meat flavor a little and I thought it was strange they served it on shrimp chips versus lettuce. Not enough chips to larb ratio. The thai boat noodle was very flavorful. Almost had a worsteshire sauce flavor. The beef was pretty well cooked and was different but very good. Of the two noodle dishes, the pad thai was our least favorite. WAY too sweet. Maybe more Americanized? But overall did not like it and probably wouldn't order it again. The pad see ew was good, if not memorable. An easy to eat dish with well cooked noodles, but not a lot of veggies. The crab was by far the best dish. If you like thai basil dishes, this is your dish. The crab soaks in all the flavor of the thai basil. It has a little bit of heat and the veggies add a nice crunch. Definitely a must try. Really nice and attentive service in a modern decor restaurant. Will definitely come back again to try some other things and see what else is worthwhile.

Came here on a Sunday around 4pm no wait to be seated. Bar and tables. Patio space. I didn't see a bathroom inside maybe on the side of the building i did notice one. Ordered the pad thai it was good in flavor a bit chewy. The Thai tea was good. Customer service was very friendly and quick. All in all good for a one time try.

Finally tried The Second Owl last night. And I was NOT disappointed! The wait staff was very friendly and helpful with the menu and the food was delicious. Cool vibe, a great addition to the area. Fresh, tasty and authentic. You will end up paying more, but it's absolutely worth it. The care and time spent on the quality of their dishes is evident. I can't wait to go back and try other dishes. Pork Belly - Crispy edges, super moist and fatty. Chicken Wings - Crispy and well seasoned. Pad See Ew - Firm and Bouncy flat noodles.

A very cute and quaint little venue. The Thai food is legit (I live in Thailand 5 months a year). The Thai food at the restaurant is similar to what you will find in Bangkok and some area of Northern Thailand. Service was spot on. It is family owned and some of the staff speak Thai. They also serve Thai beer at a Happy Hour price point. You can adjust your level of spice to your taste. Highly recommend. Many Thai restaurants serve Thai "American." Love this place! Stumbled upon it while walking by and had to try the newest Thai place on Second. We had the skewers for an appetizer and it came with many different sauces. The peanut sauce was one of the best I've had and is made from a family recipe. For the main course we had pork fried rice and The Belmont. Amazing flavors and high quality ingredients. For dessert it had to be the Boysen Berry pie a la mode! Overall great atmosphere, friendly staff and amazing food! read more

We went on a busy Friday night and they handled it really well. They opened the outside seating area for the first time since opening roughly a month ago. For the soft opening they did great! The customer service was great really enjoyed both ladies that helped us out. While waiting for our food we heard and saw people commenting on how busy they were and how excited they are for a Thai restaurant on 2nd. The atmosphere was very warm and welcoming. The chicken pad Thai looks spicy but it isn't at all!!! I love how with the tofu they make it tiny so it's not noticeable. The green onion had semi big pieces and the peanuts definitely added to it. The chicken fried rice was amazing! Everything was delicious in the rice but the onion pieces were a little on large side. The only negative thing that I'd say was the table was a bit wonky and rocked a little. Overall a great experience and we will definitely be going back again. read more

Second Owl is delicious!!! It's definitely a hidden gem on second street, newly added. Every dish is flavorful and feels like an authentically cooked Thai or Laotian food. I love that we have Thai in Belmont shore now. We went on a Saturday night, seated quickly even though we needed them to figure out space for our stroller. The food was excellent and great portions. went on a sunday afternoon since we were walking by. the service was very good, albeit it was not a busy time. but the two ladies were very prompt, kind and helpful! everything we ordered was very yummy! and the pricing is similar to many other restaurants these days, but the portions for dine-in seemed larger than other places i've been to! the space was very nice, clean and modern. i did not experience any issues with flies during my time there. overall, happy to have a cutie thai place to add to my list of go-to places ! read more

We were surprised to find out The Second Owl is owned by same owner of Owl Owl in Signal Hill which we love! This one on 2nd Street has the same good food but a bit different to cater to the Belmont Shore crowd. Outdoor seating is available. Highly recommend and we will definitely be back. read more

Ohh- drove by and did a quick U-turn because I love Thai food. I used to frequent here when it was Sancho's Tacos. So, surprisingly, The Second Owl took over. I loved striking up conversation with Shannon who shared about our common passions; children, education and food. She is so attentive and kind. She did share about education because I just retired as a school teacher. Shannon shared about her son and many other details of the teaching profession. Shannon made me feel celebrated, important, and praised just as much as she should be by all who come to visit and dine. Shannon recommended the Ka Prow, which I've never had before. Ohh my- sO delicious! I did dine on some added Thai fried rice the tasty salad, the Tom Kha, and Thai iced tea. I am so happy I stopped by because I've had the best experience! I will be savoring this food throughout the day.It is THaT delicious! Oh- and I have leftovers for later. Wonderful! The ambience, cleanliness, the food presentation and the aromatic flavors of each dish were exceptional! Thank you, dear Shannon, for our outstanding chat! I wILL be back! Thank you, again! This place is absolutely amazing! The food is top notch and so is the service. We ordered the Kao Tung Na Tung as an appetizer and it was delicious. It was so flavorful. We also had the Pad Thai, which I loved, and the Short Rib Massaman that came with mashed potatoes and I would highly recommend it. I loved the vibes and decor. Great place for a date. Ambiance- *** Nothing to be in awe about! Walk up counter, pastry case I think on the side and beverage machine (I think). Oh and they namesake - two owls on the left side of the counter. Food- *** wasn't anything special. I've had better tasting Thai food elsewhere. Service- ** we were told to sit anywhere. 2 single tops came in after us. We were ready to order. Server never made eye contact when she served those tables. We wanted probably 10 minutes before server finally came to our table. Our order included salads (****); satay stick appetizers (***); noodles (***); and soup which wasn't served. That took 20-25 minutes of waiting! Remember the other tables were already served. Salads came out after 15 minutes! SALADS! ONLY SALADS! Did I mention we asked for everything to come out at once!! Server forgot the soup! Not sure what was happening in the kitchen but there were still only 3 tables in the place! Suggestions to add to our order never occurred. May give this place a second chance. But for $30 for 3 satay sticks and a side salad, I'll go to Manaow! P.S. Having. One from a service industry background, I always hope it cans better. Feels like going to work is just that, just going to work so I can pay my bills. That's ok but with more effort Tips Insure Proper Service! More effort more TIPS which is never guaranteed even with more effort! If you don't rely on TIPS, and be grateful you have a job, you're ahead of the came! But still provide great service! Word of mouth is powerful! read more

As competitive as the restaurant business is - it still shocks me that you find servers that don't appreciate business! I walked in and there were empty tables and the woman says "give me 15 minutes to help you." And I said "I'm not getting take out. I'm here to eat." And she says "I know. It's just me and I'm really busy." Seriously?!? There are empty tables! Not cool! (I would rate this a zero for Service. But this system has Food checked and I can't uncheck it. I have no idea how the food is as I didn't eat here! I went somewhere else). read more

Their portions are mediocre and menus are awkward. This location changes restaurants constantly. Ambiance is lonely with hardly any employees or clientele . Their portions are for one person and higher than typical. Noodles are pennies to a dollar, their pricing should be better especially for being new on the block. read more

Excellent new Thai restaurant on 2nd Street! The Kai Palo Heng was one of the best Kai Palo dishes I've ever had. The pork belly and Kao Tung Na Tung were also amazing. The restaurant itself has a great vibe. I love that it's on the corner--you get a nice view of 2nd Street through their open-air garage doors. Perfect for date night, catching up with friends/family, or just getting your Thai fix! read more

A couple things to know before you go: parking isn't great, and the restaurant gets busy. We showed up around 5:00 p.m. and only waited about 20 minutes, but I could see larger parties having a much longer wait. My go-to dish is the Pad Kra Prow Eggplant with chicken. It's a Thai basil stir-fry with eggplant, onion, and Thai chilis, and I absolutely love it. We also ordered the mussel curry, which my friend picked, and it completely surprised me. I wasn't expecting to enjoy it as much as I did, but it was excellent. The standout, though, was the Khao Soi Noodle Soup with sliced rib-eye beef. Somehow I'd never ordered the dish they're most famous for, and now I understand why. It absolutely lived up to the hype. The broth with the rib-eye was incredible and is something I'd recommend to anyone visiting for the first time. My biggest criticism is that the rice portions feel smaller than they used to. With how much delicious curry and sauce you get, I found myself wishing there was just a little more rice to soak everything up. I also noticed that the green beans in the Pad Kra Prow Eggplant are very al dente. Personally, I'd prefer if they were blanched just a bit so they were slightly more tender. If the goal is to add texture, I'd almost rather see crunch come from something like cashews instead--but that's just my preference. For dessert, we had the mango sticky rice and another dessert with sweet milk dumplings and red beans. Both were fantastic and a great way to end the meal. Vibes of the restaurant are great. It's a small venue, but they work quickly, and a staff was very welcoming. Overall, Chiang Rai continues to be my favorite Thai spot in Southern California. If it's your first visit, the Khao Soi with sliced rib-eye is absolutely the dish I'd tell you to order.

(Don't get me wrong, I love cheese, but they did not give a chance for the dressing to stand on its own) The bread and butter were the only thing I will say was good. Solid 7/10. I think if they added garlic and pepper into dipping oil, it was elevate this a bit. The fact that this is served warm definitely adds to the taste. The "fresh" made gnocchi is house.. was not good. This dish was a ricotta gnocchi. For nearly $30, this was the smallest plate of pasta I have ever gotten. I continued to look around and everyone got extremely small portions of pasta. That aside.. this gnocchi was not good and too undercooked. The sauce tasted honestly like a chef boyardee sauce, with a little bit of a fish after taste, and no ricotta. It did taste like slight parm, which, even if a little bit more Parmesan was added, maybe this would've tasted a bit better. But apparently all the Parmesan was reserved only for the salads. (This dish was supposed to have a duck base, but this was not cooked properly) not only was I simply turned off by this dish, there was nobody by to help or even get it to go box. But quite honestly, I just left the food which is so sad. Left over pasta is always so good but I really could not continue eating this as I truly did not enjoy the taste. I left hungry and sadly disappointed.

I would definitely order both those items again. We also had an order of their wings with Gochujang BBQ sauce which was another winner. We ended up order two pizzas with one being the Ragu that was just ok, and the other being the Fried Eggplant that was very good. To you it off we all tried the Pistachio Custard that was a nice end to the meal. The place does get busy so you may want to make a reservation. They do have a big parking lot but parking can still get tight. As for the staff they are all very friendly and welcoming. They also do a really good job of keeping the place neat and clean.

The Second Owl Thai Restaurant is truly a neighborhood gem! From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with warm, genuine smiles that instantly made us feel right at home. The staff here are so friendly and attentive--it's clear they genuinely care about their guests having a wonderful experience. The food was absolutely delicious. Every dish tasted fresh and full of authentic Thai flavor. We especially loved the Palo Heang and the mango rice for dessert--highly recommend! The atmosphere is cozy and inviting, perfect for a casual dinner or celebrating a special occasion. You can tell this place is run with heart and pride. so my friend invited me last minute and all i can say everything has been amazing. the food, ambience, and if you love chill, soul, lofi-esque music the playlist is great. NOW let me get to the food. the combination of laotian and thai food is immaculate. we all got something different. the larb, the kai soi, the belmont shrimp fried rice, and the massuman. there was five of us and we tried everyone's meal and the consensus was...EVERYTHING IS AMAZING. 10/10 come again *disclaimer* the spicy level wasn't as spicy as i wanted. if you like spice you need to say "thai spicy" and if it's still not hot enough you can ask for chili oil and it gets the job done. read more

The food here was delicious and beautifully presented! The Pad Thai was flavorful with a nice balance of tangy and savory, and the Pad See Ew had that perfect smoky wok taste with chewy noodles and crisp veggies. The satay platter was another standout, offering a great mix of skewers and sauces that really elevated the meal. The only downside was that the service was a bit spotty -- at times it felt hard to get attention, and dishes didn't arrive as smoothly as expected. That said, the quality of the food definitely made up for it, and I'd still recommend this spot if you're craving solid Thai dishes. I prefer the Signal Hill Location... personally. read more
