Ruby Brink brings fresh quality ingredients to a limited menu of appetizers and entrees. I tried the beef noodle, which is like an upscale version of pho - sprouts, shredded beef, the obligatory boiled/steamed egg, quick pickled veg. Disappointingly the recommended house made hot sauce (2 dollars) didn't have the spice of sriracha and was lost in the broth. The broth seems to be the selling point but I found it thin and lacking the robust flavor of some of my favorite pho places that sell admittedly non organic, not so local, probably GMO broth for a third of the price. The drinks are good but my bloody mary was boring as well - although the pickled beet is what gives my review its third star. Service was excellent and the back area feels urban chic. read more

One of the few places on the island with service after 9:00 PM and it's spectacular. Go for one of the featured cocktails - you're in for a treat. The bone broth on the appetizer menu is not to be missed. You can't go wrong with anything on the menu, and everything has vegetarian or vegan options. Save room for dessert! Went for lunch today with two kids (11 and 13) and had wonderful sandwiches (French dip for adults and ham and cheese for kids), with a pesto pasta salad and the house greens with homemade dressing. All were delicious but the outside ambiance, music (an underrated aspect of dining out IMO) and smells of cooked meats made it all come together perfectly. Most of the indoor sweating is for 21 and over but there are a couple of tables if you have kids or you are welcome to eat outside. (Indoors is super cool - even the bathrooms are worth checking out!) The food is a little pricey, but we learned that's on par for island fare. First, giving the patron the choice to sit "anywhere" in the bar/restaurant seems like a generous idea but does poorly when there is one person at a four top table here and there, than the first wave of lunch comes and there is not enough tables available. Second, knowledgeable staff would be helpful. Third, be prepared to use your knife to cut to eat your 5"-6" bitter lettuce salad. Vashon has enough bars on the island or do we? As a walk-in, signage of butcher shop, maybe something telling the story of the choice of the name for the establishment would be helpful.. Good food in a great location on the corner of the main intersection in Vashon. The menu really reminds me of Renee Erickson's original Boat Street Cafe. You can tell that they care about what they serve and also aren't afraid to experiment a bit. I had the Farmers Plate that includes two types of rillette, cheese, house made bread, radish pickles and a delicious bean salad. My wife had a smoked mushroom sandwich with an eggplant kasundi sauce. We just drank beer, but the cocktails look really interesting and I'm sure we'll be back to try some of those. They also have a small butcher counter with lots of interesting looking preserved meats and charcuterie. The house made bacon looks especially good. read more

Great addition to Vashon's restaurant scene. I'm still licking my lips over the polenta braised-beef bowl I devoured, and the Old Fashioned was a fine way to wet my whistle. The menu was creative, much of it locally-sourced, and the butcher shop an added surprise. I took home some sausage, which I enjoyed the next day. New spot on Vashon Island. This place is lovely. The food was delicious first of all. We've tried the Meat & Noodle, Cauliflower Cake, and Lauren's Sandwich which were all great. Meat & Noodle felt like one of their hero dish, with a lot of flavor packed into what looks like a simple bowl of noodles. You find yourself picking up your spoon for another sip over and over again. Secondly, the folks here are simply great. We've made a special request on whether it would be possible to have some flowers for an occasion, and the restaurant prepared beautiful local flowers for us before arrival. We went for lunch on a Saturday. We got there when they opened and ordered and were seated immediately. We ordered the TBR dip, country pork pate, both on baguettes, the South Side fizz and the Pathfinder and soda. They were out of the Pathfinder and all their other N/A drinks are super sweet so we just got tea. Both sandwiches were served cold which was kind of a surprise for the TBR dip. The bread was absolutely awful: they may have been baguettes at one time, but they were so soft, dry, and squishy that they were more like hoagie rolls. The pate was also icebox cold so you could really only taste the pickles on the sandwich. And finally, they serve your sandwich wrapped in deli paper with no plates. The fans inside are so strong that you're fighting to keep this increasingly wet deli paper from flying away. #justgiveusaplate It seems they just don't have a kitchen for lunch because their dinner menu does have hot items. The dip would have been better if it were hot and both would have been worlds better if they just had decent bread. My south side fizz was quite good and the bone broth that came with the dip was outstanding. read more

Dropped in for dinner with friends last week. I tried the lamb merguez with rice; the meat was fantastic and paired well with all of that rice (and kudos for giving me enough of that...sometimes I have dishes like this and don't get quite enough starch!). I also had a couple of the house cocktails--tasty--and my partners in crime tried some of the pickles, which sounded like they were only so-so. We took the ferry to Vashon for a day hike Thursday, Oct. 15, and kicked it off with a take-out lunch from The Ruby Brink. All three of us agreed that our sandwiches were so delicious we would gladly visit Vashon again just to eat there. Amazing breads and wonderfully inventive meats and cheeses. The girl behind the counter was extremely friendly and helpful and the vibe of the place is very cool. Can only imagine how great it would be to visit the place after Covid is defeated and we can return to normal. My husband and I enjoyed our visit to The Ruby Brink a lot. We just had drinks and appetizers so I can't speak to any of the dinner options but what we did have was great! The Ruby Brink is a farm fresh restaurant so specific items may vary. We ordered bacon (a very appropriate appetizer for a butcher shop/bar/restaurant ), ricotta, honey and apples on artisan sourdough (which was super delicious) and a raw/pickled/roasted plate which consists of 3 different crudites and a choice of dipping sauce. We had pickled beans, roasted carrots and raw purple daikon. The dipping sauces were a choice of a carrot hummus or fishy mayo. I'm not into fish but my husband loves it so we asked for both and they were very accommodating. The only downside to the dish was that my husband did not like the fishy mayo at all. I think it's the first time my husband has ever turned down any food that is fish related. The atmosphere was quirky, warm and inviting. The service was excellent and there seemed to be quite a few regulars which is always a good sign. Overall, we had a great experience and hope to visit again on our next trip to Vashon to try out some dinner options. read more
