This bar is located at the McMenamins Elks Temple location. It is done in speakeasy style and is actually a hidden bar. So you have to poke around here at the building in order to find this bar. Some McMenamins locations have hidden rooms also so if you are out and about and touring an unfamiliar location it's best to ask a staff member if there are any hidden rooms for where you are visiting. If you wind up getting frustrated trying to find this bar perhaps ask a staff member on that situation as well and maybe they can give you pointers. Once you are inside this fairly small sized bar you can look up at the ceiling and see where the sidewalk is with the purple stained glass design. It's a nice place to relax but can get very busy as These hidden bars are often quite popular with McMenamins customers. Some bars don't have all drink options available that Some of their pubs have but here you can definitely get a cocktail or a beer. My friend and I came here to have a beverage. We ordered a daisy passion rim had salt, cosmo with blackberry vs cranberry bc they didn't have, and we ordered an old fashion. Old fashioned had the correct garnish and cherries. All three drinks were great. Bartender Brittany was busy but was very efficient getting us our drinks and was friendly with us. read more

The Vault inside of the Elks Temple is one of my favorite McMenamins bars at this location! Only downside is that I literally could not tell you how to get there. My fiancé is the one who introduced me to the McMenamins' chains, and we came here for the first time shortly after we started dating and even almost four years later, I don't know how to get in here even though we've been here like five times. LOL I digress. The Vault is definitely small capacity, so if you come on a weekend you can almost guarantee that there will be a wait. People are usually mindful of not sitting in there forever and freeing up a table, but it really just depends. Service is usually decent here - haven't ever had anyone incredibly nice, but not exactly mean either. Drink selections are comparable to the rest of the bars inside of the property - they always have a beer/cider/tequila that we like so no complaints there. The vibe of The Vault is really what makes it. Definitely gives speakeasy vibes and we love the cozy ambiance. It's positioned underneath what used to be an old pool (or so my fiancé has told me) so the ceiling is slanted which is an interesting feature. Overall, if you can only visit a bar or two inside of this property I definitely suggest prioritizing The Vault. read more

One of many awesome hideaways in the McMenamins hotels. Once you find this small but well appointed bar underneath the sidewalks of Tacoma, you will find awesome mix drinks and beverages. Service is always great but sometimes the wait is long since this is a small place and there is usually only one bartender. But the wait is worth it. Enjoy! read more

Like many folks in the Seattle area, I enjoyed the ambience of this "speakeasy". My friends and I had a good time at this bar. I thought the drinks were good - although the "cherry cherry bang bang" was on the sweet side for me, and that is saying something because I do have a sweet tooth! We got there around 8:15 PM on a Saturday evening and had to wait less than 15 minutes to get a table for four. By 9 o'clock there was a line of 10 to 15 people outside and it seems to be moving pretty slowly. read more

Saturday night, exploring a McMenamins in Tacoma when we overheard talk of this allusive speakeasy. We were able to find the two super secret entrances to this place and were immediately raving about the small space. It was cold though (I was in a summery dress, go figure) Drinks were STRONG. The single person bar & small space that we found empty when we visited, so we were quickly served & were able to just hang out. I just had to return to one of my favorite "secret" bars where I was introduced to my now favorite cocktail (The Hemingway Daiquiri) while in town visiting my family. Of course, it wasn't as good as my first, but kudos to the amazing bar staff for preparing very tasty versions. This is the most sought out hot spot in the McMenamins Elks Temple. Located in the depths of the Elks Temple this fun little bar fills fast once it's open for the day. Once you locate the psychedelic hallway leading to the doors of the bar you'll be treated with more of the same inside The Vault. It's a full bar but they're limited to what they have on hand for the night. If you want some crazy specialty drink you'll probably need to visit one of the bigger bars. Only about 15 people can stay to hang out but there's standing room just outside the bar as well. There's even a cute little sitting area near the bathroom. If you're having a tough time finding this location you can ask the front desk for some help or even other guests can point you in the right direction. Happy hunting! read more

One of the four(?) bars located inside McMenamins. This bar is a fun to find speakeasy. There is very limited seating inside, but lots of standing room outside, or near the bathroom. I'd definitely recommend looking for this hidden bar if you're up for a mini adventure. read more

First time back in the Elks Club in way too long. Relieved that we could still find The Vault and pleased that they still serve up enjoyable cocktails in a unique location. Highly recommended! read more
