i've never been to the ruby brink, despite coming to the island with regularity. the other day i had some time to kill so we went for a quick drink and it was lovely! if you're looking to imbibe, there are so many options to choose from: well drinks, wines and cocktails. i had the prince highway and it was delicious! if you're looking to eat, there aren't a ton of tables and the menu is very meat heavy so if you're fine with that, you're going to be in for a treat (from what i can tell,) but vegetarian or vegan leaning folk are going to be limited in their options. for a quick drink, this was a great introduction to a place right on the main highway and somewhere to keep in mind if you've got time to kill before the ferry line or as you arrive on the island (depending on the time of day.) they're also open close enough to farmers market hours to make this a place to combine with your shopping adventure. it was relatively quiet when we were there on a weds but i bet it feels more lively at mealtimes and later in the day. there's also options to buy ingredients to go so if you're on a bike and maybe looking to stock up for a picnic at another location on the island after some exercise, this could be an option. read more

Service was friendly, but at the end of the day it's about the food - which is why the 1 star. What we experienced were the two worst sandwiches we've ever eaten! The pulled pork sandwich had what seemed to be nearly half a bottle of mustard mixed with a lot of coleslaw and a little bit of smoked pork buried within as though it were a mafia informant that got the cement shoes treatment. The French Dip sandwich also had what seemed to be a half a bottle of horseradish cream sauce... which burned my eyeballs and fumigated my nostrils! I could only take about 3 bites before I couldn't handle the potency any longer. It was literally a horseradish sandwich with a side of weak broth. The abundance of condiments on both of the $25 overpriced sandwiches turned the bread into mush leaving us on the Brink of sandwich hell. The service, however, was good - I was able to get a different sandwich with no questions asked. Sadly I must award you no points for the food, and may God have mercy on your soul. read more

We stumbled in to this place for my wife's birthday randomly. Friendly greeting. Chill vibe. Ok, great. We'll try it. We happened to show up on "steak night". Now, I'd just had some bad things happen in my life and was looking for something that might bring me some joy, so I ordered the strip even though it was a little pricey, and I didn't know much about the place. My brother in Christ, let me tell you, that was the most gloriously delicious steak I've ever eaten. Cooked perfectly. Buttery. An almost crackling crust. Seasoned well but not overwhelming. My wife's noodles were also fantastic, but that steak was out of this world. She made me trade once she tasted it. We finished with a really nice, not too sweet chocolate mousse. They nailed all of it. I'm as shocked as anyone to tell you that this was the best restaurant meal I've ever had, and I don't like anything. read more

Every time I go to The Ruby Brink I always leave with a smile on my face and a warmth in my belly. It's upscale without being too snobby, they have the dishes of a far more expensive restaurant without the astronomical cost. This place commits to sourcing almost everything they have locally and they make a lot of their own base ingredients including every sauce they serve. The Ruby Brink is particularly well suited as a good bar that still has restaurant class food, especially if you just go out with your adult friends and not necessarily your family of five. Different restaurants are tiered to different clientele and I especially appreciate that they serve their target audience: adults looking for a damn good meal, super well! Their menu is prepared every single day depending on what's available at the time. Don't be surprised if you see different dishes on it from just going there a week previous. In my opinion this keeps it fun although they still make sure to keep their classic favorites around. Definitely five out of five stars for me read more

Well there aren't a lot of places to eat out on vashon, but I liked this hip place, mostly meat on the menu with their bone broth soup being their stand out dish which is like a pho hybrid with greens and noodles and an egg. Get the kimchi on top of it too. Kind of pricey though and the meat was like shredded brisket. I was glad I got the olive oil bread. read more

Everytime I visit Vashon Island, this place is a MUST. The bone broth alone is reason to visit. You can also purchase some to-go from their deli fridge. I like to come here for lunch which is the only time they serve their TRB Dip sandwich. This is a roast beef, swiss, horseradish sandwich with a cup of their 24 hour bone broth for dipping. This is no ordinary roast beef dip, it is next level! I split this with a friend and we ordered an extra cup of broth so we each had our own. It also comes with a bag of chips on the side. They have Empress Gin here so I like to pair an Empress Gin and tonic to top off my favorite meal on the island. Service has always been friendly and attentive. The space is cozy, not great for big parties. A couple booths in the front near the window, bar seating and some high tops, and just a handful of tables in the back. They also have a deli with a little bit of seating that shares the space. No table service in the deli from what I can tell. read more

Recently ventured to Vashon Island and were so impressed with everything we tried at The Ruby Brink, a butcher, restaurant, and bar that focuses on locally-sourced, quality ingredients. Although we ate on the outside patio on a warm evening, I decided to try a hot dish, the smoked chicken meat and noodle, which turned out to be delicious and restorative. The chicken was flavorful and tender, the noodles thick and chewy like udon. The homemade broth had just the right amount of salt and flavor to make it perfect. The microgreens and other veggies added a fresh element to the dish. My husband ordered the Sausage on a Roll, which had a creamy, spicy sauce and an herby sausage. The bread was excellent and it was all topped with baked cheese: perfect! The drinks were great, too. The menu offers both original and classic cocktails, along with wine/beer/cider. I tried the 20th century, a classic cocktail comprising gin, Lillet blanc, white creme de cacao and lemon juice, which I hadn't had before. The creme de cacao sounded like an odd addition, but it was actually very subtle and didn't really taste chocolatey. It was a refreshing, well-crafted drink. read more

We arrived on Vashon towards the end of the day on a Friday, so places weee starting to close, but I'm so glad everywhere was because I'm not sure we would've chosen The Ruby Brink. However, now that I know about this place I will make an effort to visit every time I'm visiting Vashon! The dining area is pretty intimate, but not cramped, and there's plenty of seating at the bar. The staff was very nice, helpful, and efficient! I would've liked to see it earlier with more people/activity, but if you go around 830pm or so you will definitely get a seat and food really quick! It was chilly that week so some warm noodles sounded perfect! We found out that they make their bone broth in house every day, and also create/print their menus every day, too! This was our "second" dinner. They were pretty busy but we were seated relatively quickly. I ordered the chicken liver mousse snack board and partner got the bolognese. I didn't actually eat the liver mousse because that's not my thing- I more so ordered it because my partner likes that stuff. She said the liver was just ok. The salted cracker was really good and had a good snap. The bolognese had chunks of sausage but they reminded me of sausage on a pizza. Though our food was to-go (courtyard not open that day) a peak inside revealed a cool spot to dine. We've been coming to this place for about two years now, and there aren't enough great things to say about it. The menu is ever-changing and so creative (one of the appetizers included picked blueberries), and the staff is absolutely wonderful! Though the menu changes often, there are a few staples -- meat and noodle soup (plus a vegetarian version), sausage on a roll, and sourdough brownie, to name a few. I'd recommend all of them! Arrived at 4:30. It was the night of the Christmas Parade the place was packed! We got seated right away, by the window. We both ordered meat and noodle. My wife had pork, I had braised beef. It was outstanding! Their homemade broth is 'out of this world' good! You probably won't watch a parade from your seat, as we did. But do go for the great food. The kitchen staff at Ruby are masters in creating soups. I have never been disappointed with the excellent soups. I have some other favorite menu items but the soups stand out. My one pet peeve when it comes to resturants is ambient noise. You will notice that RB has placed sound dampening panels on the walls. This is one of the first thing i look for in a resturant/bar. It is still a bit loud for my taste. The optimal decibel level for normal conversation is 58-65 dB. Easy to get a decible meter on one's cell phone and be intentional about the noise level. read more
