Update!: I've now been here several times and this is what you should know. Drinks: As a cocktail person, I will confidently say, these are the best cocktails south of downtown. My top for the area would be 1. 1988 Cocktail Lounge 2. Velvet Elk 3. The Alley Food: The food here oddly oddly extremely good. The burger is the standout and if you like the burger down the street... congrats - you have a new fav here. Staff: Everyone here is amazingly amazingly friendly and genuinely happy to be working. What can be better: Look you're going to have to be in a particular mood for this Neo-asian style vibe that may or may not start to play loud pop music, but you're doing yourself a disservice if you let that stop you from visiting here... Everything else here is phenomenal and also made with care and creativity. - Updating my previous score to perfect!

Great for late night dinner with friends or a romantic dinner. Came here a few times with friends and this place never disappoints. The banh mi is savory and juicy. The fries that come with it is immaculate. Best fries I've ever had that is not from a fast food joint. Super crispy and crunchy and it comes with a special sauce. The creamy udon is one of my favorites. Filled with lots of flavor! Everyone here is so welcoming and makes this place energetic! The service is top tier. They're very fast and attentive. Highly recommend bringing your family and friends here!

This is such a cute lounge! They have a great and creative selection of cocktails, karaoke and a cute outdoor area. The service is always top tier, just a great environment for Friday night drinks.

Drinks are yummy and aesthetic. Staff is attentive and super nice. I got a complimentary birthday drink so bonus points for that. I definitely have to come back when it's late at night for karaoke.

Fairly new cocktail bar in Georgetown! This place specializes in more Asian ingredients, with a number of drinks that are tea-based. I appreciated that they list out which drinks on the menu have caffeine, for those that are cautious in having caffeine at night. We went here on a Saturday night around 9pm and there were a few open tables left, and it got less busy as the night goes on but surprisingly the last hour before closing drew in a full house. We tried the following cocktails: 1) Momo - very strong, undiluted cocktail with hojicha tea infused whiskey and boba syrup. It is basically an alcoholic boba milk tea drink, and I am a fan 2) Geisha - good notes of lychee, jasmine tea-based cocktail. Good presentation with the butterfly that is actually edible as it is rice paper 3) Zenith - presented in another nice chinaware, you savor notes of pho flavor and it is really smooth, easy to drink 4) Juniper - I am a sucker for egg whites so I had to get this. Presentation on the egg white is not as good as the other drinks. The drink is quite citrusy with the orange peel shavings on top as garnish, and the chrysanthemum complements with that. We got the umami fries that pairs extremely well with the Zenith as the fries involved fish sauce, basil, Thai chili peppers, etc. For $9, it was good value as the portion was huge. Service was decent as the drinks were delivered in a timely manner and water refills are present. Overall, this is a cool cocktail bar and it is currently still considered a hidden gem, but it is up and coming!

We haven't had food here yet, but have visited twice for cocktails at the bar. The staff is attentive and friendly and the bartenders are extremely talented. I love sitting at the bar and watching them carefully create their beautiful drinks. Each cocktail is a piece of art, and every cocktail I've had here is so good. So balanced. So beautiful. The decor is dark and cozy, perfect for a date night.

Enoki Fritters - such a good appetizer, very popular at the table!

We were exploring around Georgetown and stumbled upon the 1988 Cocktail Lounge. The decor looked really nice inside. Nice friendly staff and welcoming atmosphere. We saw they also have a small backyard patio that's dog friendly! With heat lamps! We were promptly seated and decided to try some drinks! Cocktails: Momo - hochija tea infused whisky, brown sugar Boba syrup. This was super unique and a fun experience, would recommend! Love Potion - Vodka, lemon, cranberry, hibiscus tea, rose water. This one was a hit at the table Juniper - Gin, tangerines, lemon, chrysanthemum, egg whites. Refreshing! Into the Forrest, a smoked bourbon drink. This drink grabs attention, a must try for Bourbon fans. Hot B*tch spicy tequila drink. As a lover of spicy stuff, this was my fave On to the food: Banh Mi Smash Burger - if you like banh mi, and you like burgers, well, you can see where this is going. Very creative and delicious! Fried Chicken Thigh burger (It's a special, call to see if available). This was our favorite! One of the best chicken sandwiches I've had. I'd come back just for this dish! Enoki Fritters - such a good appetizer, very popular at the table! Everyone kept commenting how good it was. Who knew you could fry enoki. I mean, you can fry anything but the execution is fantastic here. Umami Fries! So addicting and delicious! If you told me you can mix fish sauce and fries, I woulda thought it's a crazy concept. Absolutely scrumptious. We came back at night to 1988 and to our surprise, the bar was popping with karoke! I'm pretty stage shy, and the staff were so inclusive that I had to give it a try. Such a fun experience here! Unlike other places that call themselves asian fusion but just serve multiple ethnic Asian food, this place is legit Asian fusion with so much creativity. We'll definitely be back!

Went on a Wednesday night with a big group for a birthday celebration and the staff was super friendly and accommodating. They pushed tables together so we could all sit as a group. We brought Crumbl cookies and they were cool with us snacking on them at the bar. The drinks were both aesthetic and delicious (I tried the Love Spell, which is rose-infused, and one of the tea cocktails). The food was amazing too. I had the pho poutine, umami fries, Brussels sprouts, and veggie egg rolls. All were great, but the Brussels sprouts were a standout! Overall, it's a great bar with a fun vibe. Bonus: Happy hour on Wednesday runs from 9pm-midnight. Definitely coming back to try more!

Food and drinks were so good! I love the Asian inspired flavors and dishes. Service was excellent! I got the Bo Ne and fries, and The Zenith for my drink. We also got the soju tower. I'm going to try the banh mi smash burger next, I heard it was a 10/10! Love this place, it's a cool / cute spot for a hang out, plus they have a small outdoor patio. Definitely my new go to spot

We stumbled upon 1988 when searching for dinner/drinks close to the Museum of Flight, and I'm so glad we did! You can't beat their Happy Hour offerings, although I did opt for a cocktail that was not included in the HH promos. The Love Potion cocktail was superb--10/10 for presentation and taste! As for our food, we ordered the Pho Poutine and it was the perfect execution of two very different worlds & cuisines. We also had the friend Enoki mushrooms, which were excellent as well. To top it all off, the service and ambiance were spectacular too! We will definitely be back to try more. And maybe their sister restaurant next door. :)

Zenith made with house pho simple syrup

We fell in love with 1988 on our first trip. Each of the bartenders and hostess had in ears "com" to communicate quickly with one another. It's brilliant and makes for a service experience that is above and beyond. I tried the Zenith which is a smoked cocktail with a house made pho simple syrup. It sounds crazy but it is next level cocktail craftsmanship. We will return soon to experience more of 1988's offerings.

What a great new addition to Georgetown! Stop by with my friends to visit our friend's new lounge. It's very classy inside. The menu and drinks are definitely Asian forward and I love every bit of it. Some of the drinks are fun take on classic Vietnamese dishes and the menu had a lot of great options. I had unfortunately already eaten so we settled for some appetizers.. the enoki fritter were perfectly seasoned and oh so crispy. Didn't care for the sauce that accompanied the fritter because I think a garlic aioli would be a tastier option than the spicy Mayo dip they offered but that's just a personal opinion. My friends and I really enjoyed this place. It was really fun and we had a great time. I had the gravity drinks and zenith. Lemme tell you though the zenith drink is so delicious. It's suppose to remind you of pho and they really nailed it. Had great flavored and the drinks had all the tasty aromatics of pho. Morgan was our server and she was amazing at handling our big group. There were 9 of us trying to get a big table and ordering drinks and shots. She's amazing. Oh most of my friends ordered the salty bitch and raved about how good their cocktail was. If you're familiar with chanh muoi (Vietnamese salty lemonade) that was exactly what it tastes like. Anyways, stop by and check it out for yourself! We'll definitely be back to try some of the food.

Ask the Community - 1988 Cocktail Lounge

What time does the kitchen close on Saturday?

We plan to get a table for 10 at 6pm. Will there be a problem hearing each other, some say the music is Blaring?

I go here quite often, the music is louder than your typical chill bar for sure. But it's not a club in here. I would ask if you could take the back / outside area. It's usually quiet back there and you guys might be able to get that whole area to… Read more

I'm gonna be real with y'all - ya girl was HUNGOVER as all hell coming to this place. I was at the point where nothing was going to help besides hair of the dog, so... A Bloody Mary it was. I asked for it a tad spicy and it came prettttyyyy spicy, but my stomach also wasn't at it's normal state that day, so who knows. They come topped with olives, bacon, and pepperoni. At first I wasn't digging that, but after I sucked some of the drink down and came alive again, the bacon was tasting really good! Staff is friendly, they've got tons of space, and there's a solid food menu (didn't order but lots sounded good). Definitely a hole-in-the-wall spot. Don't expect to walk into something fancy, it's definitely just a dive but it's fun, fairly clean, and prices are fair. We'll be back!

A pint of beer will cost you $8.50 with tax but without tip, so that's basically $10! Service was a bit slow and not too friendly, but definitely not rude. There are much better options on the area for both beer and bars, so I will not be returning anytime soon.

I got the St. Germaine spritz and we shared the lemongrass steak nachos, frites, and kimchi arancini! St Germaine spritz: I love a cocktail/alcoholic beverage that is on the sweeter side. I don't really love when can I taste the alcohol in a mixed drink so this drink was definitely up my alley. It was super refreshing and had a nice bubblyness to it. Lemongrass steak nachos: the lemongrass was definitely a standout taste in these nachos which I loved! I loved the combo of the fresh ingredients like the cilantro, lemongrass, and cabbage with the steak and queso, it helped to balance all the flavors and didn't feel heavy Frites: pretty standard tasting fries, not too skinny and not too thick which I liked! The chili mayo had a nice smoky sweet flavor and it was a great dipping sauce! Kimchi Arancini: these were crispy and had a nice gooey cheese in the middle which definitely had a cheese pull. The kimchi taste I felt was relatively mild which is great for people that don't want such a strong sour kimchi flavor, I love kimchi so I could've definitely had it stronger. They do give you a side of kimchi to go with it, but I didn't love the kimchi it came with. I'm used to getting kimchi from Hmart or other Asian grocery stores but this was pretty mid to me. Overall I would definitely come back to try their other dishes and cocktails! Their brunch menu looks good and I'll probably be back for that next time.

The cauliflower dish feels almost like a fresh salad, light and easy to eat, and the gnocchi with chipotle sauce had a nice subtle kick. The focaccia and sardines paired perfectly with champagne and white wine. Right next door is Homer, a very popular restaurant, and I've been to both--but honestly, I prefer this place. Maybe it's a bit less trendy because there aren't many main-course options, but everything I've tried here has been consistently delicious. Overall, it's just a comfortable, inviting spot that's perfect when you want good food and a relaxed drink. Also staff are friendly and welcoming. I had expectations to tell you the truth, but I was let down a bit. Although, I was convinced to try out the mozzarella sticks and that was a fantastic starter. Highly recommend it. They were huge and thick with the good white stuff stretching out of it when you pull on it after your first bite. Best mozzarella stick I've ever had. As for the chicken and waffles, that's another story. Now, this isn't your normal chicken and waffles here. It's a spicy chicken and waffle sandwich. Someone was trying to be clever with this one and granted, on paper it sounds like a good idea. Execution was pretty poor however. The spice on that chicken was overpowering. There was a lack of syrup when there should've been more. And the goat cheese made it worse. Honestly, if it were just a regular fried chicken that was not spicy and had a good amount of syrup with no goat cheese in the sandwich, it would've satisfied my craving hands down. It wasn't that unfortunately. Should just keep it simple with that one. I would've been happy with that. The stroganoff was solid though. Did not expect that to be so good coming out of a bar. Way better than what Olive Garden could ever dish out. So maybe that says a lot for some folks. I'd come here for the stroganoff and the mozzarella sticks. As for the place itself, it definitely has a saloon vibe to it. Place looked pretty slow when I was there, but there was a good amount of people finishing up their meals, so I probably just missed the breakfast rush.
