I was developing a bit of alcoholism because of the tastiness of their Kentucky Mules and unfortunately, I have non-alcoholic liver cirrhosis and am not permitted ANY alcohol unless I get a liver transplant. Thank goodness their food is so dang good! I live directly across the street from Whisky West and sometimes have enough strength to order a meal to go. They recently completed a refresh adding a couple of TV's and family dining. I've been in and out for years. Food is good, ambiance nice with window seating facing California St. however unless you're sitting right at the bar table service and attitude of staff has always been poor. Few smiles and attention to customers until the check comes (reorders and table checks). The restaurant was far from busy, yet the service we received was shockingly poor. From the moment we were seated, the experience was downright hostile. Our waitress never greeted us instead, she slammed the menus down on the table without a word, dropping one on the floor in the process. She didn't even bother to pick it up or apologize. She just set the remaining menus down (instead of handing them to us) and walked away without a single word of welcome. When she returned with water, still no greeting, no smile, no effort to make us feel like valued customers. She didn't ask if we had questions, didn't introduce herself, didn't even say, "I'll be back to take your order." Just complete indifference and rudeness. At that point, we decided we didn't want to spend another minute in a place where the staff clearly had no respect for guests. We walked out, stunned by how unprofessional and cold the entire interaction was. Whisky West should be embarrassed. I love this place and the potential it has but I have had a few less than ideal experiences lately. I was born and raised in west seattle and have been to Whisky West countless times. Unfortunately, my biggest complaint is that the staff and service are lacking. Many of the bartenders have been less than welcoming and attentive. Tonight I was not greeted upon entering, sitting down, or even being handed the menu. When asking the bartenders about the whisky offerings, I received short and unknowledgeable replies. They did not seem to have any knowledge or expertise in their product. In the past, I have ordered a drink and they even questioned my choice. Tonight we were the only patrons at the bar and again were completely ignored. I'm writing this review because I love a local neighborhood spot and I see the potential this establishment has. I know the owners are extremely kind, even offering to put my friend's luggage in their back room when he had just arrived from out of town. I hope they see this review and hire and educate some passionate and eager employees. read more

Service! First, the people who work here are genuinely kind and caring. Last Saturday, we attended our friend's birthday party with a ton of other people. My husband was a part of the band that played, and one of the servers, Zack, kindly offered to help lug his drum equipment from the car to the stage (& back! Later that night). Actually, he offered to help the whole band do that. We ordered our dinners early, because the band had to do sound check. Food! We both had salads and shared some tots. I had the seared ahi salad and my husband had the chicken Caesar. Everything was served promptly and tasted delicious. The other people working there that night, Gretchen, Denise, and Nicole, were all super nice and helpful. We didn't spend that much, because I don't drink alcohol, and the people were still super nice, bringing me water, ginger beer, and tea. Appetizer: Fried Pickles (7/10): I always like the fries looking fried pickles over the coin shaped ones. These were good just had more salt than we would have liked. I'm sure it was just that batch though Entrees: Chicken Bacon Ranch PITA (9/10): For a bar Pita I thought this was actually pretty good. I wouldn't expect a bar to have pita, nor did I expect it to be good. Props to them Lemon Pepper Shrimp Rice Bowl (6/10): I think this one might go down to personal opinion. My GF who ordered this didn't enjoy the bowl very much. The shrimp was fine in her opinion but the rice and other things in the bowl just didn't taste well. I personally liked it and would have gave it a 8/10 based on the couple bits I had. Overall Experience: This bar has a great selection of whiskey, and we normally only go there for drinks, but actually decided to get food this time. I've been here before Covid-19 and now after it's mostly over although I'm sure the Gov and Democrats will drive it till 2022-24. That said, I can tell (my opinion) that Whisky West maybe a bit short staffed with one waiter, one bartender and someone cooking the food. So, it won't be a surprise you walk in to sit at a table and they don't notice you immediately. My advice is if you have borderline personality disorder just sit at the bar and bang on the bat top as it's really hard to ignore you and you'll get immediate service or get kicked out. I read that the Whiskey burger was great and so I ordered that and a Manhattan drink. The Manhattan was of good quantity but not sure of the quality of the standard whiskey. Next time I'll get Knob Creek. The burger was meh and the fries where good sized wedges but somehow tasted like sweet potato fries. They must fry up it all in the same deep fryer. Overall, I'd say this is great as neighborhood place to hang out and get a few drinks, the food is okay; not spectacular, but good enough. I'd go back, but pretty sure my date would like some better places I know in Seattle. read more

I've ordered out from Whiskey West ~4 times and eaten in twice. While the food is good if you like Americana food, every time but one a part of our order was forgotten, whether that be a part of the meal, a sauce, pickles left on when we specifically asked for them off, etc. For what it's worth if you don't mind waiting for attention and likely correcting whatever was missed from your order, the ambience is pretty relaxed and nice and the bartender is amenable to changing the channel if you want to catch a specific game (in my limited experience). That being said, the times I have eaten in were very low traffic hours (I'd estimate ~3 other parties there) and I had to wait around 5-10 minutes before someone came over (once) or I gave up and went to the bar to order (the other time). Half of the times I've ordered via phone it also sounded like I was annoying the person that picked up. I almost felt bad for calling! It's a shame because I really wanted to like this place (which is why I kept trying!) but it just makes we wish for somewhere more like Shadowland or some other bar with efficient service. read more

On this visit, we only old fashions, but will certainly go back and check out the food options that were varied and plentiful. Tried this place for the first time and really enjoyed it. We went in pretty early on a Saturday so we were able to get a table immediately and the service was excellent. We arrived at around 5 PM. We got an order of fried cheese curds for the table, and they were amazing! Fairly generous portion too. I got a cowboy burger, which was one of the better variations I've had of that style of burger recently. The fries were also very good. One of my friends got the Reuben was she said was decent, but not mind blowing. Just a solid Reuben. Another friend got the chicken strips and fries and she said the chicken strips were amazing. The fourth diner at my table got shrimp tacos and he said they were messy but excellent. I'm super happy I took a chance coming here instead of going somewhere that I was familiar with already. Whisky West is the best bar I've been to in West Seattle if you like good drinks. I say this because some people like hypey bars, some like themed bars, some like club like bars. If you want to go to a place to get a killer cocktail, Whisky West is it in west Seattle! The bar tender and bar back at Whisky West are both great dudes, have a lot of fun, and have a vast knowledge of high quality drinks. My favorite are all pre-prohibition age cocktails. So most places I go don't know how to make the drinks I like... I have never ordered a cocktail that they couldn't make or couldn't make well. I don't exactly know where my pretentious taste for cocktails came from, could be that I grew up watching James Bond, could be that I went into entrepreneurship, could be any number of factors... but one thing about loving classic cocktails, you become very picky. Since most places cannot make the drinks I enjoy, I dove heavily into mixology myself. Which brings up the unique challenge of having to feel like every drink you order was worth it. BUT LIKE REALLY WORTH IT. If I feel that I could've made the drink better at my own home bar, I consider the drink a fail. Because of this I almost always order drinks that contain ingredients I don't myself harbor. When I go to Whisky West there is nothing I don't order... I know that anything I order will be up to par! Whisky West also has killer wings, great service, and lovely desserts. All-in-all I highly suggest giving Whisky West a try! (Side note: higher class whiskys are typically spelled whisky without an -ey. This is a subtle hint to Whisky West being a notch above the quality of other bars.) read more

Whisky West is one of our favorite local spots. Delicious food and an incredible selection of whisky. Plenty of beer and other cocktails as well. Their barrel-aged IPA is a must-try. The staff is wonderful. We held our wedding reception here last summer and worked with the bar manager Holly for multiple months planning the event. Holly was a joy to work with, spending many hours with us ironing out every last detail. She worked with us prior to the event to do several iterations of drink and food sampling, and we came up with a completely custom menu we loved.The entire staff, and Holly especially, made us feel very taken care of. This spot is a neighborhood gem, and I'd highly recommend it to anyone - whether for grabbing a quick post-work drink or hosting a major event. They'll make you feel right at home. read more

We live in the neighborhood and have been here maybe 6 or so times for lunch over the last two years, but this place has been steadily going downhill. We won't be eating here again. There is never anyone in here, the bartender/server is a bit odd and neurotic, the prices are high, there seems to be only one person in the kitchen, the waits are long, and the food has gotten pretty bad. I used to quite enjoy the fish and chips that had a nice beer batter and crispy fries. Check out the pictures. Looks good, right? Well, that's not what you get anymore. There have definitely been some changes here and they aren't for the better. The fish and chips is now an obviously frozen triangular fish stick (Van de Kaamps?), and the fries are soggy as hell. I wish I had a picture, but I'm not going back to take one. I know it's Covid, but it's been two years now and most places have either figured it out by now or closed. Somehow Whiskey West keeps cranking along with nothing to offer. We like the location and the space, but there's just no reason to ever come back here unless it's just for a drink. read more

Came here on a Monday around 4. Checked the website and I saw happy hour 3-7pm. Took a bit to get our drinks and food but overall the service was good. I asked if it was still happy hour and the server said yes. I ordered off the happy hour menu. We each got a frozen drink (advertised $6) a beer (advertised $1 off) then I ordered the pretzel (advertised $7) and my partner ordered a bratwurst ($9 menu price). I was surprised when my bill was $61. I asked if the happy hour price was on the bill and showed our server the page I was referencing. He said happy hour had been discontinued and their new happy hour was $10 bourbons. He told us he couldn't honor the prices listed but he did give us a $5 discount. I paid the tab but seriously? Why advertise a price on your website but refuse to honor it? Take down the page if you don't want people ordering from it. We left pretty disappointed. TLDR; even though their website says happy hour with a full happy hour menu, they wont honor the prices. Go somewhere else. read more

A top-notch whiskey, scotch and rye selection complements a simple, comfort-food menu at this very woody, upscale, but mostly low-key neighborhood joint. The go-to? Shepherd's Pie ($16), for sure, because it goes well with grainy and mellow wood flavors of many whiskeys, but I hear the hand-battered fish and chips ($15) are popular, as are the creative burger offerings. Of note: the Truffle Burger ($16). Cremini, shiitake and oyster mushrooms with Swiss cheese and truffle oil. 'Shroom overload. Beware of feral pigs... I hear good things about the fried chicken sandwich ($15) too, with sweet pickles, jalapeños and Napa cabbage... That shepherd's pie is pretty tasty, with generous goodies (beef, carrot and onion) in a beef-tomato base. The gravy is thick and savory, but could use herbs (thyme and savory maybe) and less tomato. The plating is wanting too - this dish belongs in a soup crock, mini-skillet or small casserole, not a broad serving bowl covered in dry parsley crumbs (didn't they stop doing that garnish in like 1989..?!). Small diameter serving dishes will allow you to properly cover the stew in a layer of potato and toast it under the broiler instead of just putting a blob in the middle of the plate. I understand wanting to try non-traditional plating, but use this rule: when it comes to traditional dishes, if it doesn't add, it usually subtracts. Parsley garnish? Detractor. Big plate instead of casserole or crock? Detractor. Quick-charred Brussels instead of peas as veg? Well...it almost works, but brown (roast) the sprouts instead of that quick pan-blackening done now, and maybe toss them in a little balsamic vin for a touch of gastrique. Service is pretty tight, and there are frequent special events (trivia, music, but thankfully NO karaoke!). Whisky West is a classy local that fits well in this neighborhood. I would give this 1 star with how disappointing the whole experience was, but I'm throwing in an extra star because the burger had a decent flavor and the guys working the kitchen were actually nice. So I ordered some takeout on Grubhub, ahi tuna salad and the whisky burger. I approached the bar to ask about the pickup (most restaurants handle this at the bar if there's no host station), and after waiting a guy seemed confused and asked if I was being helped, I asked about my order and in a very dismissive manner he told me to go to the window in the back as that's where they handle Grubhub orders. Not sure if he thought I was a delivery driver or what, but he seemed very rude. I approached the window but obviously all I see is two guys frantically working the kitchen and obviously busy. Eventually the guy from the bar walks by and checks on my order, for some reason his attitude got better at that point. Anyway, guys in the kitchen were very nice, made sure I got the right order and sent me on my way. Now, the food was not worth the money at all. The burger was alright, especially considering it traveled from the restaurant. But the ahi tuna salad was so horrible! It had maybe 6-7 slices of bland tuna, some sad and dry spring mix, and two fresh (not pickled) slices of cucumber and carrots. The description clearly said it was to have seaweed salad, avocado, green onions, and pickled cucumbers and carrots. At $20 (after tax and tip) it was the most ridiculous salad I have ever paid for. I have been to Whisky West before and the food is always really good but nothing seriously 'Wowed' me or persuaded me to write a good or a bad review. However, this last weekend my boyfriend and I went to Whisky West late Saturday night to get some dessert. I had a piece of the Chocolate Cake (delicious) and asked the bartender for a cocktail that he thought would compliment the dessert and not be too sweet. He ended up serving me a cocktail similar to an old fashioned but with some heat on the finish. I can't remember the name of the delicious concoction but do remember that he said it was named after lyrics to a song (owner of Whisky West named it; it is not on menu). He let us taste what was in it to get our opinion before putting it all together- which made it more personable and definitely exceeded any expectations I might have. It's so great to finally have a whiskey bar in West Seattle! We came into this bar to end our bar hopping evening. Next door to Zeek's Pizza, parking, like every other Seattle establishment is horrible. Fortunately for us, we Lyft all over the city! We got there about 8ish and were seated by the open window walls located at the front of the bar. The bar is new, so really neat and clean. You can take your pick of seating, up at the bar, back of the house, booths, or tables near the front. Being near the open windows was great and we were able to enjoy a nice cool breeze on an otherwise warm evening. We were promptly greeted by our server with water and the menus were already on the table. The menu for drinks is rather large but the food menu is limited. We chose the classic sazerac and I had the fish and chips, he had the wings. The sazeracs were okay. Very strong and not the best, but not the worst. The wings were delicious! The citrus sauce was sticky, sweet and perfect with the overly strong sazerac. The fish was crispy on the outside and flaky in the inside. The tartar sauce to accompany it was made with a sweet pickle base and not to my liking, but he loved it. Not bad, just a personal preference. Chips were of the shoestring sort. Hot, crispy, salty and came with ketchup. All in all, a good experience and we cannot wait to return with a group of friends. read more
