We were looking for a toddler friendly spot and landed on Island Queen. Overall, it was a bit of a mixed experience. What worked: * Service was fantastic. Everyone we interacted with was genuinely kind and welcoming, especially Jennifer. * Casual and quaint retro diner vibe. Nothing fancy, but it's clean and comfortable. * Fries were really good, crispy and lightly battered. * Hand dipped corn dogs were tasty. * "Fun size" meals are a great option and come with a tiny ice cream cone, which is a nice touch. * Self serve drinks and condiments (I personally like being able to get things myself, and everything was clean and stocked.) * Two private restrooms (no stalls/single occupancy) + indoor and outdoor seating options What fell short: * The biggest downside is the price. I understand there's an "island premium," but the value just didn't match the steep cost. * Burger was okay, but the patty felt small for the price. * Onion rings were not good. They had thick, undercooked onion and chewy breading. * The chicken bites were extremely dry. They were edible, but I'd honestly take just about any other fast food nugget over these. That's especially disappointing because they looked like they started with decent quality white meat. My kid took one bite and pushed the rest away, which is a first for anything breaded and fried. Overall, the service was great and we enjoyed the family friendly setup, but the prices and inconsistent food quality make it hard to justify coming back regularly. read more

We stopped by Island Queen in Vashon for lunch while in town. Located in what appears to be a former Dairy Queen building, it has the look of a classic burger stand and seemed like the go-to spot for burgers on the island. The dining area was bright, clean, and well maintained, and the staff did a good job keeping the restaurant tidy throughout our visit.Unfortunately, the food didn't quite live up to our expectations. I ordered the IQ Burger and added fries and a soda for a $7.50 upcharge, bringing the total to around $20 for a burger combo. At that price point, I expected a much better burger. Mine was significantly overcooked and dry. Thankfully, there was a large condiment bar, and I ended up using plenty of the sriracha aioli just to add some moisture and flavor.The fries were standard frozen fries and nothing special. For the price, I would have loved to see fresh-cut fries instead. Oddly enough, one of the highlights of the meal was the chewable nugget ice in the fountain drinks, which should never be a highlight of a meal. The kids' meals were also pricey. The cheeseburger combo was around $15, and the chicken strip combo was about $14.50 (note, if you only order the burger or chicken without fries it is $5....they charge $10 for the soda, fries and token for a small soft serve). The chicken strips were dry as well, making them a tough value proposition for a children's meal. I did appreciate that the portions were reasonable, but the overall quality didn't justify the cost. We were also not given the complimentary soft-serve tokens that are supposed to come with the kids' meals, which was disappointing and something the kids were looking forward to. Overall, Island Queen gets points for having a clean restaurant and friendly staff, but the food simply didn't meet the expectations set by the prices. The overcooked burger, dry chicken strips, and high cost make it hard for me to recommend as a burger destination. I would probably only stop by again for a soft-serve cone. I suspect there are better burger options elsewhere on the island. read more

(I especially wish the merch was a little cheaper; I would have loved a souvenir shirt but wasn't going to pay 30 bucks; I know, I know, prices are going up all over - boo). Anyway! I wanted to get a sampling of several items on offer. Keeping in mind that the key word here is "fried." The fish and chips were AWESOME. Get that. Perfectly cooked, mouth-watering, best fish and chips for miles (even miles on the other side of the water). The chicken nuggies for kids, a bit on the dry side. The burgers - good. The corndog for kids - underwhelming, didn't like the dog that was used, tasted like bologna. Must get the soft serve pineapple ice cream - OMG. This was something I had on the regular when living in Hawai'i so would not pass up a chance to have it again here - generous serving. Friendly service; however, the kitchen is slow. The drink is also in a baby cup that you can refill unlimitedly, but still not much to satisfy the hunger. typical soda flavors at the fountain. but, shoutout to the staff for helping to make tweaks to my order so I could get the "most out of my buck". They even serve it to u, but not the condiments :( I wish that they did orientation to all guests who ordered upfront on where everything is so that they have sides prepared. Fries and flag problems. The fried cod and tartar sauce were great! The fries were cold inside and super greasy outside. Our friend returned the fries and kindly asked that they give her fresh fries. They gave her fries with the same problem. Then we watched in astonishment as they had a man take down their American Flag outside on Memorial Day, and he let it drag on the sidewalk. Then he handed it in a wad to a boy about 12 years old, and that boy held it in a wad. To see our flag be dragged on the ground and then wadded up like a piece of trash was unbearable for our group inside to see. Such disrespectful treatment of our flag is inexcusable. read more

Salad comes with avocado (no extra charge) tomato and crispy onions. The lettuce is leafy and green. The spicy chicken is so saucey you don't even need dressing but I highly recommend their homemade ranch for a little dip action My grandpa loves their burgers. Everything on the island is expensive, but this place might just be worth it. They have overpriced local beverages, and other selections for alcohol (yes, you can get alcohol here!) as well as a Chipotle style burger and fries and other options. I was pretty impressed with the quality, no so much with the price. But I'd do this over something like the Hardware Store, or the Ruby Brink UNLESS it's on their burger night special. The quality is there, but I have a theory about the price. No one on this stretch is open long enough, and enough days, to really make a profit. So no wonder they charges these prices, and have a LOT of off days. That said? Still, a great burger and fries and options. Definitely better than some other options in town. The newly remodeled Island Queen was the highlight of Vashon Island for me. We ordered at the counter an only had a couple minutes before I got the text that my food was ready. I had the Swiss baco-shroom burger. It was delicious! Seasoned well and cooked beautifully. The bun was soft and fresh. The fries were next level! They were a perfect golden brown and crispiness. Came here for the Yelp Passport to Vashon event because we had a voucher for a free ice cream cone. We came in and there was a choo choo train winding it's way around a track above our heads. Looking at the menu, I noticed the fish and chips and the cashier looked at me with all sincerity and promised me it was probably the best fish and chips around. I LOVE when people want to talk food, so I was in for lunch. Being a fried chicken fan, I ordered that and added malted vinegar to the fries and it reminded me of sunny days at the beach when I was a kid. I don't know if there was honey in the batter, but it was slightly sweet and tasty. The restaurant has a nice outdoor patio, so they are very dog friendly. The owner came out because she couldn't resist Emma and Professor Henry who were wearing their Yelp bandanas around their necks. She gave us an insider tip to go to the Estate sale a few miles north so we could see the farm of a famous author and that was so cool of her to recommend that. I plan to visit again as soon as the weather breaks because I am determined to have the best fish and chips around. read more

Went to Vashon for the first time with family and we decided Island Queen looked the most appetizing and we were certainly correct. I ordered the Island Queen or IQ burger with no tomatoes and avocado and was blown away by the quality of the overall burger and the fries! They have some of the best tasting fries I've ever had. They also an awesome outdoor eating area. Food was a 10 and the bathrooms were an absolute exception. They were very clean. I also highly recommend the coffee milkshake. Don't let the name fool you. Yes, it looks like an old Dairy Queen but the food is much better. One of the few fast food options on Vashon Island, this place provides many of you diner fare with some surprising options. I got the spicy chicken strips and fries, expecting to get some chicken tenders seasoned with some generic hot sauce. I was pleasantly surprised to get a chili garlic sauce that coated all of my chicken. It was something that surprised and yet impressed me. It was very filling, and was shared with one of my kids. This place is a cute burger joint. I love the design with its big eye catching fonts. I came here for ice cream. They have ice cream sandwiches and soft serve. They had at least four choices of soft serve with two of them being non dairy. The watermelon soft serve was pretty refreshing for being non dairy. We placed a large (40+ item) order over the weekend. The order was handled so smoothly, was bagged and ready to go as soon as we walked though the door.
