The place was packed, but everyone is friendly and was willing to share their table with us. We had a great time and I strongly recommend coming by the Quarterdeck to chill and listen to live music. Quarterdeck is what I like to call a "come for the vibes, stay for the drinks, eat... somewhere else" kind of place. I stopped by while visiting Seattle and while the food situation was a bit chaotic (they had rotating menus because they were out of a few items), I ended up ordering a kimchi-inspired sandwich that I wanted to love...but it just didn't do it for me. Not inedible, maybe a 2/5, but I'd definitely try something else next time. My friend ordered what I think was the Garden Harvest Wrap (a staple on the menu), and that was more of a 3/5. Both dishes were served cold (intentionally), which I think made a difference, I could totally see them being much better if they were warm. Now let's talk about what is worth it: the mimosa flight. SO good. Like dangerously easy to sit there, sip through all of them, and forget any minor food disappointments. But honestly, the real star here is the ambiance. You're right on the water with the most effortless, breezy, coastal energy. Boats drifting by, sun hitting just right, people lingering over drinks--it's giving main character energy in the best way. I found myself wanting to stay way longer than planned and even doing some work while there. This is absolutely a spot I'd come back to, just with a strategy: eat before or after, and come here to sip, sit by the water, and take a little walk on the dock. 5 stars for the vibes alone read more

My team & I were looking to catch a simple, caffeinated, breakfast before a busy work day & we were disappointed in our visit here. The Quarterdeck's menu was half crossed out with most of the dietary restriction options not being available. The design of the space is unwelcoming seeing as people were walking through us the entire 7 minutes we were standing in line several people walked through and around us putting a damper on our experience. I gave two stars because I didn't have a chance to try their coffee or food; however, I have absolutely no desire to come back nor recommend it to anyone in the area. read more

I come here anywhere from once to 3 times a week. My doggie loves the marina and I love sitting outside and enjoying a drink with the sun and the view. Even on chilly days, they have tents a heaters. The servers are always happy and helpful. Recently I had the breakfast sandwich and it was the BEST breakfast muffin sandwich I've ever had. The bread is like a grill cake and the sausage is just right. I'll be definitely ordering that again! Plenty of local beers on tap and wines by the glass to enjoy. read more

Ambiance: we went on a Thursday afternoon so it was crowded at all and was able to enjoy the view of the marina. Service: she was great! Super cheerful, bubbly, and delight to have her serve us. Food: in the afternoon it was much of an option, however you are welcome to bring your own food and they do have live music and food trucks in the evening. First time here. The location is awesome. Right on the Des Moines Marina. I visited on a sunny, warm day. Being close to the water was great. Great veiws. The outdoor seating had a choice of covered shade tables or full sun. There is no indoor seating. The choice of bottles wines and microbrews on tap were excelleant. The only downer for me was the limited food options. As far as I could tell, all the food is served cold. The sliders, wraps, and sandwiches are premade and are like the sandwiches you can buy in the Safeway deli. They were not bad but a bigger menu would have gotten the 5th star from me. Note: This doesn't bother my daughter and her husband who come on nice days. They are happy with the great wines available and variety of micro brews. I'll be back for sure. 5/5 I have been coming to quarterdeck for years. It was a hidden gem I found when me and my partner were taking a walk at this park in our new neighborhood. At the time it was just a handful of lounge chairs in a small outdoor area near the water that served a handful of beers on tap and a few assorted wine options. There's also a full cafe, non alcoholic drinks and small snacks. It's since grown to over a dozen lounge chairs, multiple tables and a large tent area with benches and heaters in the winter. With a much larger drink selection. I've held off reviewing Quarterdeck in the hopes of keeping it low key but the secrets out lol. Ambiance 5/5 - During summer time, there's nothing better than getting off work, packing some snacks and having a few drinks in comfortable seating near the water, watching the sunset. Quarterdeck checks all those boxes. There's also covered seating for when weathers not the best, they even have a stage for live music. Used to have times where you'd have to wait for an available seat but this year they expanded the seating area so it shouldn't be a problem. Service 5/5 - straight forward. You order your drinks at the counter and pick a seat. Never had a bad interaction with anyone here. Drinks 5/5 - They do have some light snacks, chips, pastry's etc. but it's a small tap house so you're here for the drinks. They have about 5-6 local beers on tap, a full fridge of other options. Different wines to choose from, but this is not a full bar so don't expect cocktails or shots. Just a place to have a few and unwind. read more

A group of 5 went down there for lunch by the water on Wednesday at 11:30AM. It was not crowded and we ordered quickly. We got an assortment of sandwiches including the Cuban, a veggie sandwich and a ruben. The sandwiches were prepared quickly and all tasted good. Cold water was available self-serve outside. We sat in the sun overlooking the marina and it was very pleasant. The sandwiches were good and the view spectacular. The primary business is light food and drinks overlooking the marina. I found nothing in particular to make this place a standout except the view and the location. A nice experience in good weather. read more

A fun little find in DesMoines. Very dog friendly! They aren't doing wine flights quite yet (Covid) but did have a beer flight - try the Scurvy Dog, a tasty mimosa special and lots of drinks by the glass. The sandwiches were good as well and we saw many people bringing fruit from the farmers market on Saturday in to eat with their drinks. Fun outdoor seating options, some with umbrellas for shade. Great after work stop! I've met up with coworkers at Quarterdeck a few times after work and it's the best! The beer menu rotates, which I love. Trying new IPAs is something to look forward to. They've been making the outdoor space more and more winter season friendly. The closed in tent now has heating and is delightful! They also went from mostly drinks and a few snacks to still drinks and a cafe style menu. It's got all we need. The view can't be beat from any spot in Des Moines and parking is free for now! Every summer, I make it a goal to be a regular at the Quarterdeck. To be clear, this is a little spot, basically the size of a shipping container, that serves wine, beer, cider, coffee, and even food. You can take your drinks and food out on the porch, to the little covered tent area, or sit on an Adirondack chair on the grass and stare out at the marina. You can also bring outside food. The Quarterdeck is well-loved, and on a nice day, it can get crowded. If there's no availability, take a walk to the pier, see what everyone's catching, and try again in a little bit. There is nothing not to love about the Quarterdeck. It's got atmosphere, alcohol, and it's dog friendly. Don't forget to get your parking slip validated! read more

I cannot believe I haven't left a review of this place yet. In fact, I'm double checking to be sure, but nonetheless... this place ROCKS without a doubt. In fact, since it has opened for business, this place has been a blessing for this marina. It's won all kinds of local recognition. With that said, I hit this place up every time I come here for a stroll. Whether to just get away or reflect... this is my go to spot. I usually grab an Americano, and take a stroll along the pier. In the summer months or evenings, a nice glass of wine for the lady and a local beer for myself is always refreshing. I have always had great service, any time of the year. Little by little they do add one and improvements to this cute little establishment. A quick word of warning... no cash transactions. It's all cards or electronic form of payment (Apple pay) and Google Pay, I believe. They also offer some sandwiches, chips, cookies, even sardines if that's your fancy, with an assortment of snack foods. This place will always be a stop for me anytime I'm in the area! Part of me has been putting off writing this review because I didn't want The Quarterdeck to get so packed that I wouldn't be able to get in... But then I realized that's kind of selfish, so if you're reading this, you have to get there. LIKE NOW. Remember that *glorious* 73 degree day we had a couple of weeks back? Well, The Quarterdeck had been in my sights for a while, and I decided that was the day to check them out - along with a ton of other people, too. Great minds think alike. There was a bit of a line to order but that was to be expected. Everybody was really friendly and chatted in line, and when it was my turn, the service was great too. Prices are decent. They've got local beers and wines - I went with a sparkling bottle of rosé and was given a bucket of ice to keep it chilled. The space here is wonderful. There's a large area with lots of seating, which was pretty much filled - so I headed into the covered tent and found a table with no problem. Bonus: they have wifi! I was able to enjoy my rosé, get some work done, and enjoy sunshine. It really couldn't have been any better. One thing to note is they don't really have a ton of food. They've got snacky stuff, but nothing that's going to fill you up - so prepare for that! You're allowed to bring in outside food. The Quarterdeck is also kid-friendly and dog-friendly, so it's a fun, inclusive spot for everybody. I really can't recommend enough. The Quarterdeck will absolutely be a staple for me this upcoming summer. read more
