Part of me has been putting off writing this review because I didn't want The Quarterdeck to get so packed that I wouldn't be able to get in... But then I realized that's kind of selfish, so if you're reading this, you have to get there. LIKE NOW. Remember that *glorious* 73 degree day we had a couple of weeks back? Well, The Quarterdeck had been in my sights for a while, and I decided that was the day to check them out - along with a ton of other people, too. Great minds think alike. There was a bit of a line to order but that was to be expected. Everybody was really friendly and chatted in line, and when it was my turn, the service was great too. Prices are decent. They've got local beers and wines - I went with a sparkling bottle of rosé and was given a bucket of ice to keep it chilled. The space here is wonderful. There's a large area with lots of seating, which was pretty much filled - so I headed into the covered tent and found a table with no problem. Bonus: they have wifi! I was able to enjoy my rosé, get some work done, and enjoy sunshine. It really couldn't have been any better. One thing to note is they don't really have a ton of food. They've got snacky stuff, but nothing that's going to fill you up - so prepare for that! You're allowed to bring in outside food. The Quarterdeck is also kid-friendly and dog-friendly, so it's a fun, inclusive spot for everybody. I really can't recommend enough. The Quarterdeck will absolutely be a staple for me this upcoming summer. read more

Awesome little spot on the marina. Excellent selection of wines and beers. The best is just being able to sit outside by the docks with everyone relaxing in the sun and sharing stories about their dogs. Limited food menu but everything was delicious. What a great little spot. Right in the Des Moines Harbor. Coffee, beer, wine, boats. What's not to like? Amazing place to chill on a beautiful afternoon! Came for a coffee, stayed for a beer. Adirondack chairs and plenty of cafe tables to just chill and enjoy the day. Great views. Super friendly staff. Good beer choices. I didnt have any food but looked pretty good. Coffee was meh, I mean it wasn't bad but this is no expert barista. More of a press some water through a puck of espresso beans and hope for the best is all. No big deal, I didn't need gourmet coffee just needed a little caffeine hit before my beer. I will 100% be back. Especially when the weather is nice! read more

This place has good vibes all around. You order your drink inside and grab a seat anywhere outside. We've even brought blankets and just sat on the grass to have a beer with friends and watch the sunset. If you're a dog lover, you'll love this place. Everyone brings their dogs and it has such a laid back, comfortable, backyard bbq feel. Located right on the water, the views and atmosphere are just phenomenal. Staff is so friendly too. They don't have much of a food selection, (they do have some snack items) but this isn't really the place you'd go to for dinner anyways. Love this place! Can't wait to return again soon!! read more

This is a sweet spot on the waterfront or harborside in Des Moines. It's a great place to grab a beer, wine, cider, or coffee and sit for a conversation or watch a sunset. They do have bites to go with the bevies, but this is not a meal destination. All of the seating is on the deck or in Adirondack chairs on their lawn. The the great thing about this place is that it is a draw, and that's also the bad thing about the place because they fill up. I'm not sure how, but it would be nice if they could somehow get some more space off the parking lot or to the sides because at certain times, they would have no problem filling it. read more

We love The Quarterdeck - such a great addition to Des Moines and the marina. It's the best in the summer, of course, when the weather is nice and they often have musicians playing in the evenings. They do have a tent area in case it's raining which is nice. I love that kids are allowed. And the people who work here are so nice! One time we bought my daughter some pringles there as a snack - she dropped the whole can and all the pringles on the ground on accident. We went to buy another, and they just gave it to us at no extra charge. A small gesture but really sweet. They have great wines as well! We love the Portuguese wine wine. My only wish is that they had more fresh food options, but I understand with it being a small space. I really like that they allow outside food as a result. I really think Quarterdeck has done a lot in making the marina feel like a livelier place! read more

A cozy spot on the marina! Coffee, wine, beer, and munchies to tempt your palette. Fresh baked flatbread is soft and warm. Free wifi (just ask for the password). Only issue is parking. They're still working on a parking validation system, for the $1/hour ($5 all day) marina parking. read more

I love the quarterdeck. I think all Des Moines residents want to keep this a secret, but when you're down at the marina you really should visit. They have excellent coffees, pastries, bites, snacks, beer, wine, and sometimes live music. They have a small eating area inside and a large eating area outside on their porch, grassy area, and heated tent. We all love it here! Service is excellent! read more

Nice place with a nice atmosphere! Ordered some wine and relaxed on the lawn (no indoor seating btw) with some friends during the sunset. The wine was a little pricey but it was good and the portions for the glasses are huge. I didn't order any food so I can't speak on that but the menu looked good. The service was also very nice. The worker checked up on us to make sure we were good and gave us parking passes so we didn't have to pay. He also didn't rush us in leaving even tho the place closed around 8:30 pm and we stayed behind a bit. Overall a great experience and would recommend if you're looking to do something to get out of the house. read more

The Quarterdeck is a great little spot on the Des Moines waterfront. It has a very locals-only vibe that we loved. We dropped by after walking on the pier right around sunset. We grabbed a few beers - they have a selection of draft pours as well as wine - and sat outside on their front lawn area. It was a great way to spend the evening with friends. We had to wait 10-15 minutes for a place to sit (because it was a perfect day and because the owners practice good COVID hygiene). The staff are kind, friendly, and know how to pick beer and cider. I guess you can say this a "hole in the parking lot" instead of the regular saying "hole in the wall." Because it literally came out of nowhere and just randomly appeared as I was doing my marina walking routine. They have this awesome beer called CITRA, it's a hoppy citrusy IPA that's full of flavor. They have some interesting food items for a small snack. Do not recommend their coffee, seemed like it was just tasteless. Other thang that, fun staff.
