Lukewarm water to start, food plopped in front of us without a care, one look at his sandwich and my husband said don't bother ordering a drink. His grilled sandwich was cold and the cheese on it was not only unmelted but you could tell by the edges it had been left to harden. My meal was room temperature and I had the thought that I didn't realize I had ordered a salad. Nope! I took another look at the menu, it's supposed to be warm if not actually hot. It was tasty but could have used a little more meat and actually served warm. I felt like our food had been plated up earlier and just waiting for some sucker to order it. Mixed feelings about this place. The cocktails are tasty, but expensive for Vashon. The cider was good, but the glass was the size of a communion cup. The braised beef with polenta was very good. So good! Got takeout during Covid and ate by the water. Can't recommend the roast beef sandwich enough. It had all the right toppings and flavors - good amount of meat and cheese, really good fresh tomato, and flavorful relish. We had it with the heirloom lentil side dish which was solid. We also got chocolate chip cookies right out of the oven which were awesome. The meat and noodle bowl was equally as delicious if your more in the mood for soup- the amount of meat/veg/broth was great and those were very flavorful, the egg and noodles in it were good, nothing to write home about, but the broth helped carry them through. This place is out of this world! The food is amazing, I'd even go as far as to say it's the best I've had on Vashon. The staff is always super friendly and helpful. I love the atmosphere and ambiance. The interior feels very cozy and relaxed yet polished. I love the farm to table model and that they offer vegan/vegetarian as well as more paleo and meaty dishes. The Ruby Brink it's exactly what every quaint town and city needs. Although I suppose it wouldn't be as special. I went in yesterday during the lunch hour and walked into a aesthetically designed space. On the left side is their Butcher with tables and on the right is the bar with ample seating. I was immediately greeted by a smiling bartender who told me I could sit anywhere. I decided to sit at the bar since it was just me. The drink and food menu were exciting to read. I decided to just have a dry white wine. It was so hard to choose from the array of food items, all seemingly to represent an eclectic but well thought out menu. Ultimately I got the big salad with pancetta and it did not disappoint! The egg was cooked to perfection and the citrus vinaigrette was light and mixed in with the beautifully delicious greens. It was pretty and satisfying and definitely big! I love everything about this place, especially the cloth napkins which you don't get often. Wonderful service, gorgeously delicious food, well-crafted drinks. I cannot wait to bring my husband back to try this place over and over again. read more

A delicious, thoughtful meal. I enjoyed the beet and ricotta toast and my husband had the meat & noodle. The bread used for the toast was phenomenal and the broth in the soup was rich and flavorful. We also thoroughly enjoyed dessert (chocolate mousse for me and olive oil cake with strawberry rhubarb compote). We sat at the bar and Josh, the bartender, was a gem. I had a chance to go to The Ruby Brink twice this week (once for lunch and once for dinner). The renovation of the space was perfect - it really fits into Vashon and into the nature of the building. The decor, the glasses, the silverware all spoke to the intention the owners put into creating a wonderful feel of place. The service was friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive and the food was outstanding. The evening cocktails also reflected so much care in creating a unique drinking and dining experience. At night (it was a Tuesday), the place was packed, and it really had a strong sense of community and good spirits. I came away feeling that the restaurant added something new and exciting to an already great set of establishments on Vashon. read more

My new favorite. Great food, great drinks, friendly staff. Menu is eclectic with lot of variety. Great small plates,charcuterie, crudités and other fun pickles, meats, dips. They always have a sausage roll with homemade sausage. Everyone should try this, Lauren makes the best sausage. I recommend the Hemingway Daiquiri this is my new favorite. We stumbled upon this place while visiting Vashon and I have to say it was a true gem!!! While we had to get our food to go due to COVID restrictions we still had an AMAZING lunch! We ordered the mushroom sandwich, the noodles w meat, a side salad and an extra bone broth. All of it was exceptional. The sandwich was tasty and the noodles, meat, veggies and broth were delicious. It was so good our 10 year old did not really wish to share! The bone broth alone had an amazing smoky flavor and the salad - which could be basic but was amazing w the bacon and custom dressing. Been here for drinks and soup both quite good, but only recently expanded out to their take out during covid and wow. Their mac and cheese is somehow very special but not different just a yummier version of what you normally think of for mac and cheese. The container is huge and my son was able to warm it up all week for lunch while on line school. The salted dark chocolate pudding is amazing and their chocolate chip cookie maybe the best I have had. We bought pork chops from them and I didn't know pork chops could taste so good. Well worth the long wait. The bar is well-stocked, the food out of this world, waitstaff attentive, welcoming and well-trained. The meat is fantastic, a real butcher (Lauren) smokes chops and sausages and bacon, to die for! Owner is wonderful and keeps things humming on an even keel, and the head chef, Rustle, is inventive and expert. My favorite place to eat in the PNW!!! The menu is not static, new things crop up weekly, and the soups are especially great. The Bone Broth is a great base for inventiveness, sort of a house signature dish with noodles and pickled veggies. I'm drooling as I write---if I could give 10 stars I would. Prices are VERY reasonable, lots of small and inexpensive plates if you're not ravenous, and some filling choices if you are, much of what you will eat is locally sourced.. The olive oil cake with whipped cream is a perfect ending, save some room for dessert....the music is nice and not too loud due to numerous sound-absorbing panels, ambience very very nice and welcoming. The food here has always been wonderful but the staff were so rude today we actually left before being seated. It wasn't a case of being short-staffed but acting incredibly brash and short, asking weird questions (is your dog friendly to dogs and people because we cannot have a dog fight on the patio), and then saying they'd call us at 2 when we could be seated and never following up. I recommend the managerial team look into who worked today and figure out a process of welcoming customers (even if they are there 10 min before opening) and making a welcome and warm experience. read more

My wife and I haven't been over to Vashon Island in several years. Stopped in here for lunch and were blown away. We shared two entrees (Farmers Salad and Beef brisket over polenta). When I first looked at the menu I was disappointed in the lack of gluten free options in the sense of the sandwich's. The only gluten free option they had was in the works and to me tasted like cardboard. I was disappointed in the lack of options for their menu. But I got the lamb and rice meal and shared the cheese/meats/pickles snack. The taste and overall satisfaction I had with those definitely changed my mind on the place. Those meals were very delicious. I like the alkaline approach to the food. One of my top favorite restaurants on the island now. Definitely expensive which is a downside but good food never is cheap. If they put pictures with the menu options I'd help the customer choose better. The menu needs to be redesigned I think. It doesn't help the appeal of the place. Overall good vibes and nice decor. The waitress was pleasant. Service was a little slow for mid day considering there wasn't many people in there. Sitting window/street side it was hard to get the glare of the sun out. Even with the curtains moved. The very top curtain needs to be longer. So 4/5 stars seems reasonable. To recap. Food is definitely very good. Some of the best on the island I think. Pricey, small portion, well made,locally sourced items, on a pretty limited menu. Not terribly slow service but not fast by any means. I get the concept of this restaurant and I think it isn't friendly for the average working class customer. Then again Vashon is no longer a average person locale. For us who sweat for our money I say go to the hardware store or Gravy for just as good food at a better value. For everyone else enjoy the two entrees you will need to satiate your hunger costing about 30$ on average per person, not including higher then average priced drinks. The decor is not bad, hipster/ faux chic is how I would describe it. Also there is a small butcher area where you can get some decent looking charcuterie. My favorite aspect of this place has to be the two unisex bathrooms because right on for progress. However it's just not the kind of place that caters to myself and to a significant percentage of the Vashon community so in my opinion it's a 2 star kind of place. If you do go definitely try the soup it is very good but just expect to Pay for it and still be hungry after. read more
