Updating my previous review from years ago. They have finally found their way with the menu and the special offerings each week. Burgers are always top notch, especially the Signature RH Burger. Crab dip is the best in town. I still miss the Turkey Pot Pie, but alas I cannot dwell on the past. Service is still the best around with fantastic, personable staff who always know what to suggest. I had lunch today (4 March 2012) with my husband. It was my first time at Roadhouse Pub, and Tony's second. The place was empty except for 3-4 people at the bar and three other tables with diners. The food was very good! I had the pulled pork sandwich that was served with toasty ciabatta bread. I love a good sandwich with fresh bread. The BBQ sauce was on the sweet side (for my tastes) but good flavor. Next time I'll ask for it on the side. The sandwich came with a side of roasted quartered potatoes, which were excellent. Simply prepared (tossed in olive oil, salt, pepper, and garlic) and flavorful. Tony had the oven fried chicken breast, which also came with the same roasted potatoes, and a small bowl of roasted Brussel sprouts with chopped bacon. The chicken was coated in a cornmeal breading. He said all was very good. I tried the chicken and it was tender. We were pleased with the service and we felt the prices were reasonable. I definitely want to come back and have dinner. Stopped in here looking for dinner and based, as usual, off the Yelp* reviews. The service was super friendly when I walked in and the bar seating was packed. A single seat opened up shortly after I got there, thankfully. It's not a big place, so if it's packed, I would bet that it's probably going to be a bit of a wait if you are trying to seat a group of 4 or more. Pros: They have a pretty good offering of craft beer and the beer menus are on two devoted televisions hanging on opposite walls of the bar. I wouldn't have expected this in such a small place but I like it. It also has keg volumes so you know if your selection is about to kick. It's pretty fancy. The menu is kind of fancy too and the offerings for this kind of bar was another surprise. It's kinda "bougie", as they say, but it's not necessarily a bad thing. As for food: I got a sea scallop appetizer, which was okay. The scallop was rather small and there was only one, but it wasn't terribly expensive and, for the taste, it wasn't bad. I also ordered the wild boar bangers and mash, which was very good but, again, they don't overfeed you with the main item. As it was, it was really only a "banger" and mash. It was tasty, even though not that filling. This place is definitely more of an "Urbana" establishment than an old-school Frederick one. Some of the modern-day population might fight me on that, but that's pretty much like that all over Frederick now. Frederick is definitely more of a DC suburb now than a Western Maryland town. Overall though, I thought The Roasthouse Pub had good food and drinks. The prices were a little on the higher side, but I've paid slightly less for much worse, so.... I would come back. read more

I have been here several times now, and left happy each time. Fantastic selection of craft beers. If you like interesting flavorful beers, this is as good as it gets in the DC area. Prime rib is very good on weekends. I like a place that will mix 20oz prime rib and then have a vegetarian dish next. Prime rib sandwich is also good. Best burger in Frederick so far, and I've tried a few. This is a casual little pub with good beer and a small menu with good quality food. What's not to like. read more

I started to come here in early 2010's when the tap list was really nice (Racer 5, Green Flash, Ballast Point, Stone) and I kept coming back to see what the menu was after. I think they lost their beer and gastropub directors at some point before 2013 and have not been back since. read more

Very impressed, especially since they replaced Philly's which frankly, looked like a bit of a hole in the wall. The interior was nicely redone and I liked the bottle caps design under the glass in the booths. Service was very friendly and it was hard to choose something off the creative menu. They have twenty different beers to select from that are updated often on chalk boards on each side of the dining room. They even gave us some "teasers" while we decided what to eat that were very unique. Excited to go back, it will quickly become one of my favorites in Frederick. read more

My wife and I went there today one a recomendation. We seated ourselves and waited 15 minutes before our drink order was taken, A good half an hour later we were still waiting to place our lunch order as if we were invisible. I had my back towards the bar, I looked behind my back and the waitress who was apparently late for work, said, I'll be with you in a minute. I barked back at her and her told her we wanted our check. We went to May's and had drinks within 5 minutes and food within 20 minutes, maybe less. I sure as hell wouldn't waste my time on this trendy shit hole with very subpar service, I can't opine on the food because we didn't have all day to wait. Shit hole..... Where to start? Probably with the beer! With a rotating tap you know you'll always find something new to try, including a nice selection of local beers. Not sure what to try? Ask! The staff here has never steered me wrong! The food? Yum. I love the veggie mac and cheese and the tacos. There's also a nice brie sandwich. My husband likes to come on the weekend when they have prime rib. Oh, and seriously, save room for dessert. The bread pudding is the best thing on the menu. It changes up but is always yummy, especially when they use porters or stouts to make it. Double yum! It's a nice unassuming spot with maybe 10-12 tables and a small bar. The decor is craft beer based and they have bottle caps in the tables. All in all a laid back afternoon or evening out. It's hard to not notice the cool sign driving down Urbanna Pike, but like a lot of people, we must've driven past this place 100 times before we finally decided to try it out. In a nutshell, the place is pretty much as excellent as it looks from the outside! We have now been to Roasthouse over half a dozen times, and we absolutely love it. For starters, the atmosphere is welcoming, light, fun, and just pretty much everything you would hope for in a great pub! But really the best part about the joint is the unique and tasty food it provides, with so many interesting menu choices, both sinful and healthy! I understand that the chef has traveled the world, picking up different cuisine concepts along the way. His combination delivers quite a punch. Everyone talks about the brussels sprouts with bacon, and so will l! Amazing. Whenever we get that pork thingmabob, we take the other half of it home. So it's not necessarily food you would associate with the pub, it's creative and flavorful and unusual and spectacular. I just read a review that said the potatoes were not right and the au jou beef was dry. Whatever. Not saying that couldn't happen, but I had them both last night and they were just fine-really good in fact. And then there's the beer. I'm not really all that into beer, but it's still fun to pick a new one and experience the different flavors. Yesterday, I had the RAR Bucktown Brown ale and my fiancé had the Victory Mighty Things, which is an IPA. Both were fabulous. All of the servers are really cool and fun. We had the girl with blue hair a few times and she was just great. (Sorry I forgot her name.!) Then we had Maxwell who was blasting with positive energy and made a big impression. Marcus was our guy last night, the first time. He has this great big beard and just looks happy to be there. All the servers are. There's like 0 turnover apparently. I will give Marcus a little bit of constructive criticism here, though: Perhaps I'm the only person who doesn't like when waiters say this, but I hate the question, "How's everything TASTING?" Again, maybe it's just me. But if I never hear this again my entire life I'll be a happy customer. ("How is everything so far?" might be a nice substitute.) Alas, if that's the biggest complaint I have-and it is-then you can tell I'm pretty happy with Roasthouse Pub. Heck, even the (decor) is unusual and welcoming. Certainly it's comfortable! I visited here last night but the kitchen closes at 9pm. I came back today and had the specials. Shrimp tempura was awesome Red snapper was superb. I love a place that has a wide variety on tap. In my opinion the menu was a little limited for my taste but food was definitely very good.

TL;DR: this place after gun range = perfect American Saturday!! What an American day!! 90 mins at the gun range with my buddy, then we found this gem of a pub! Amazing food, amazing draft selection, staff was fun and super personable, and the food was amazing. Ham brisket(?) sandwich with jalapeño bacon glaze, melted white cheddar, and house made stone ground ale mustard. Side of Brussel sprouts sautéed with bacon and garlic. FYI this would be 2 stars except our server and the brussel sprouts saved it. Had the French dip sandwich. The meat was dry and flavorless. This may sound super picky but the onions were cut all different sizes so in one bite you'd get a bite sized piece and in the next you'd get a huge chunk or two. None of them were caramelized in the least, just soggy, uneven chunks. As if that wasn't enough everything had been heated up in the microwave My better half had the pork shank. He liked it well enough. He's a meat and potato guy all the way so the dish could do no wrong. I tasted his redskin potatoes and they had this weird rancid taste to them as if the bacon fat they were cooked in was old. Bread pudding for desert was really flavorful although also heated in a microwave. Nice environment and tons of craft beer choices but I could have accomplished the same thing by picking up a six pack and a frozen dinner. Sorry but reheating everything in a microwave is what I expect from Applebee's not a gastropub. read more

I'm a beer-lover, and back in 2015 I stopped by the Roasthouse Pub because their sign out front clearly indicates a pride in their beer selection. And indeed, the beer was great, but the food I ordered wasn't. Well 2 years later, I decided to give them a 2nd chance, and I'm very happy that I did. To say that the food has gotten better is an understatement - the duck pastrami and brie appetizer was fantastic, as was the wild boar sausage that my girlfriend ordered. The fall-off-the-bone pork shank over garlic mashed potatoes that I ordered was phenomenal. Add to that, their beer selection has only gotten better. I doubt that you could find a better flight in the Frederick area. All-in-all, this place is a hidden gem. read more

Nitro porter was excellent if memory serves. Great waiter, recommended General Tsos wings and crab dip. Crabby crab dip!! Yum. Good call ! Wings were good, (but if looking for spicy, make another choice. ) sauce was fun and sticky and peanutty. Lots of napkins needed Waiter (so sorry, forgot his name) kept drinks full and did a nice job circling back to all of his tables. We've been coming to this place for years now and have been happy with everything about it until tonight. It was super busy at 5:15 when we arrived. Saw an empty table and made our way to it. There was a reserved sign on it. Didn't know that was a thing there.. Had to wait about 15 min for a large party to leave and reconfigure the tables. Sat down , ordered wine beer and wings. 45 minutes later, the beer was gone , the salads arrived, no wings yet. Reminded the waiter. 10 more minutes went by. Finally they arrive. 5 minutes later the main course arrives. My side is the wrong one. I finished my main course and the correct one arrives. They did the right thing by taking it off our bill, but it was still an unpleasant experience. The last Thursday of the month is an event night, it seems like they need to staff up for it better. read more

This was the best meal I've had in at least a year. Service was great and the food was unbelievably wonderful. Everything we had was really fresh and flavorful and it wasn't all fried food either. I had the bison stew to start and it was warm and comforting. The jerk chicken tacos were outstanding and so was the bangers and mash. we also tried the kale and the brussel sprouts with bacon. I really can't believe I live 30 minutes from this place and don't go. we loved the 20 beers on tap too. I can't wait to go back. I initially ended up meeting a buddy of mine here for happy hour, and it was one of the best choices I ever made. The place is awesome, and there really is no other way to describe it. You get to choose from 20 real craft beers.. not Yuengling or Sam Adams, but real craft beers from all over the country. They also hold a great variety within their beer menu, so you won't get IPA'd or Stout'd to death. The food is great and there's not a fryer in the place, so you don't feel like your arteries are clogging while you are sipping on amazing libations. The barley and hop pizza is killer and last time I was in I had a killer order of pork belly tacos. Their staff is knowledgable, although not always the quickest. Not dreadfully slow, but relaxed might be a better way to put it... which is fine with me because I am usually in no rush to get out of there. Do yourself a favor and check it out. read more

This is based only off customer service....which absolutely sucked! Walked in Thursday at 7pm two people working the whole restaurant which was packed. Of course when those are the predicaments we give a little grace.. I stood at the "please wait to be seated" for 5-10 min with 0 acknowledgment while 2 other parties were sat. A sweet dad and son were seated at a 4 top and moved to the last table (2 top) so we could sit. The 2 workers continued for 10 minutes to serve guest that already had their food and were refilling their half full beers. No water,no apologies, no eye contact....nothing...wow I was hesitant to leave bc we are on road trip and had already wasted 15 min there.. read more

I had the fiery BBQ chicken sandwich, it was great, chicken not dry, which is usually the case. Side of Brussel spouts w/ bacon, very yummy. Wife got the salmon, she said good but little overcooked. My son had the beef tenderloin, also a little overcooked, he said if it came out actually medium, would have been top 3 steaks he's had. All in all a great little restaurant. TRY THIS PLACE. TRY IT NOW. We finally tried this place after driving by it time after time. WOW. We had wings as an appetizer. Little different than traditional buffalo wings, but delicious. Juicy and crispy. My husband had the 20 oz Stout Cut prime rib with garlic mashed potatoes. I had one of the specials, the bistro surf & turf. 5 oz filet wrapped in jalapeno bacon, topped with a scallop, sitting on garlic mashed potatoes, served with broccolini. OMG. This was amazing. They have a constantly rotating selection of 20 craft beers on tap, as well as some different and interesting craft bottles and cans, and "training beers", like Miller/Coors/Bud. I like dark beers, so I had a Rogue Mocha Porter followed by a Boulder Shake Chocolate Porter (this is like chocolate milk with a little beer in it--WOW). My husband likes tripels--he had a Flying Fish Exit 4 Tripel and another Tripel I can't recall. Dessert was one of their specials: "Ooops! All Berry Cheesecake". We were confused when it came out and looked very strange, with no visible berries. Two bites in I realized the reference--Captain Crunch Berry Crunch cereal! The crust was cereal, and the top was sprinkled with crushed cereal. Not entirely my cup of tea but so creative! Service was exceedingly friendly. Food was a tad slow to arrive but with a good beer to sip on we hardly noticed. The place is tiny, but didn't feel crowded. We heard a server offer to take a couple dollars off someone else's bill because they hasn't been a fan of their beer. Despite the place being full on a Friday night, it wasn't terribly loud. Dinner was not cheap, but four beers, two steaks and an appetizer merits a substantial bill. We will absolutely come back when we get a date night without the kids again (the whole place feels like bar seating, I wouldn't recommend it for kids). So impressed, Roasthouse! read more

I'm writing this review in hopes that someone from the restaurant will read it and maybe work on some of the things mentioned. First off, I have to disagree with a lot of people complaining about the size of some of the beers. As a beer nerd I really am impressed with their beer selection, to the point where I have to wonder how they are even managing to get their hands on some of the beers (Jolly Pumpkin for example). Considering the extremely limited production capacity/dedication to quality of a lot of these breweries it's totally understandable to serve smaller sizes and pay a bit of a premium for them. I have to complain a bit about the HVAC. I have been there a couple times. I sat once in the corner booth during the summer and had uncomfortably cold air blasting me the entire time. Honestly, it's something that needs to be looked at. The menu: It seriously needs some work. Practically every review here says the same thing! That should be a big sign! Last time I was there I had the pot pie and my wife had fish cooked in parchment. The pot pie was ok (the presentation was pretty uninspired), but the fish was a wreck. When my wife cut the pouch open the fish inside was so small it could have been won by tossing a ping pong ball into a fish bowl at the fair. In my humble opinion, the menu needs to be refined. It's a disaster. Make all the dishes rock solid, give the patron value and great taste for their hard earned money, and give some thought to presentation. I realize the beer is the hook but the menu definitely needs to back it up. The service/timing: This was off. The wait for the food was long. Our waiter didn't check up on us often (I wanted more delicious beer!). Good, attentive service is a must in any restaurant where you don't serve yourself in my opinion. It was, annoying. I'm not in the industry but I'm sure there is plenty of information out there on getting this part right (maybe search restaurant management in the book section of amazon?). To sum it up, it's kind of a harsh review. But there's a reason for that. I want this place to succeed. It's a shining beacon of beer awesomeness that needs to survive and provide me with deliciously fermented malt sugars and hops. But I am scared that it won't go the distance unless the rest of the operation catches up with the beer selection. read more
