We are in town for vacation and just happened upon this place looking for something off the beaten path..... it was AMAZING!! Service was great and food was soooooo yummy. Our group had the pork skewers, two different salads and blackened chicken pasta. Salads were good, but the other two entrees were wonderful. We stopped in for some burgers and was not impressed. Got the Stuffed Datil pepper burger and the meat just had a strange flavor. The datil pepper and cream cheese inside was good but the meat tasted strange. They were pretty small and not worth $12. Service was good but don't think we'll be back, our neighbors also had a bad experience with some of their sandwiches. Spent $30 on our lunch when McDonald's has better burgers. read more

Stopped in for lunch with my wife and two kids. Gotta say great food. Nice kids menu selection. I had the blue cheese onion burger which was great. They make their own buns to. Only complaint is that they only have three sides to choose from, fries,potato salad and cole slaw. The cold salads both have raw onion in them so if you don't like onion your stuck with the fries. My wife had the sliced prime rib sandwich which was amazing. Our server was super nice but didn't mention the special which I found out about after I ordered. Visiting from out of town and wanted something casual for dinner, away from the business (and difficult parking) of downtown. This place is a gem! TONS of craft/local beers available. The menu has tons of choices from burgers, flat breads, salads with homemade dressing to entrees (fresh flounder, steak with chimichurri sauce). My husband had a burger stuffed with cream cheese and datile peppers (with lots of toppings) which was the St Augustine burger of the year. Every meal we have had at The Press has been delicious and fresh, excellent meals. They catered an event at our home in February and the pasta dish, sandwiches and bread pudding were enjoyed by all. Here is where Yelp could use some improvement... My friend and I had just pulled into old town St. Augustine, parked our vehicle in one of the $15 a day lots and started on our walking tour of this historical gem of a town. The humidity was creeping up and being from California, it was getting a little uncomfortable. Once hunger kicked in, it became necessary that I get some good food and a cold beer. I ducked into the air conditioned post office and began my search on Yelp for the best lunch spot in St. Augustine. Unfortunately, most places were either closed (Monday) or not all that appealing based on the photos and reviews others posted. I came across The Press that people were raving about. Well it was a bit far (Maps said 1 hr, 20 min walking) so we decided to get an Uber. Well the Uber ride was excellent, however it took us out of town to the newest Anytown, USA strip mall on the edge town, far, far away from anything remotely resembling the oldest city in the USA. We were already laughing hysterically by the time we arrived, trying to make light of the situation. After perusing the menu and settling on the calamari everyone was raving about on Yelp, I unraveled the rolled up napkin only to discover the plastic cutlery inside. Seemed really odd that I was in a restaurant in the oldest city in the country, getting ready to have lunch with a plastic fork. Enough on all of that... the server was cheerful and everything we asked about, she told us was great. The owner was the chef and she told us he went to culinary school in upstate New York. The food turned out to be pretty good, but the plastic fork, and tissue paper lined plastic plates spoiled the food. Good thing the beer selection was good. Now I know that 'back in the day' most things cost about a dollar and most everyone probably had a gun, however, it seems a bit off color, as we strolled the sidewalk of the shopping mall this restaurant resides in, we could visit the Dollar Store and the Gun Shop. Overall, location and particulars sucked, the food made up for it. If you live here, The Press might work for you. But if you're here for the history, stay downtown. read more

We found The Press searching for the best burgers in St. AUGUSTINE and we were not disappointed. My husband said the Conquistador is the best burger he ever had. Gaby was the friendliest waitress. I saw this p[lace on yelp and it looked interesting enough. The pictures of the food looked yummy to. So today when I was leaving St. Aug around lunchtime I decided to give it a shot. Now the place is hard to see from the road. Maybe traveling at 70mph didn't help but. I found it and after a U-turn or 2 I was in front of the place. It is a small place that used to be something else I overheard later in my visit. It is your typical bar with food joint. Burgers, wings and such but the most pictured was the fried calamari. I wanted to but my waistline said NO. So I went with the chicken cordon bleu just cause it kind of reached out at me. So a few more folks wondered in since the place was empty when I walked in so that is a good sign. When I got my food it looked pretty tasty but the chicken had no seasoning on it. Specially since I watch the cook guy cook it. But the ham was pretty tasty for sliced deli stuff and the swiss cheese had some good flavor to it. Not your normal swiss processed junk that some folks serve you here. I did really like that they toasted the bun (which is made in house) on the flat toast. that is so much better then in the stinking toaster. In all a good sandwich and they also carry a fair amount of craft beers maybe 20ish and a few drafts too. read more

We found this place on Yelp (of course) and were impressed by the high 5 star reviews for a $$ place so had to try it. It was 8.30 on a Friday evening and the place was empty aside from two guys at the bar so we had no problem getting seated at a two top right away. We started by sharing the gingery calamari with grilled pineapple which was very good. The entree specials sounded amazing so we had them both - hubby had the pork chop stuffed with Parmesan and sweet peppers on a bed of sweet potato mash which he said was spectacular. I had the bacon wrapped shrimp and pineapple skewers on vegetable risotto which was wonderful. Both meals were large portions and also came with a house side salad. For dessert we shared the peach cobbler with vanilla ice cream - it is freshly made, piping hot and plenty big enough for two to share. Also very tasty. During our visit more patrons arrived for a later meal so the place is obviously popular with locals. Our server and all staff were very friendly. It's in a strip mall, so don't be put off by that. The quality of the food would not be out of place in a white tablecloth restaurant. The only thing that seemed strange to us is they serve the food on melamine or plastic plates and serve plastic cutlery, but the owners explained there is a hefty 5 figure "impact fee" they have to pay to the city which does not transfer if/when they move premises, so while they are building their clientele and reputation it wouldn't make sense to spend that just yet, I don't blame them - crazy bureaucracy really makes it hard for small businesses at times. But everything was great and we love that it's a family owned business and they all really care. You won't be disappointed - great food and service! Go! read more

A small choice of a menu selection that allows them to focus on the fresh cuisine. Each item is freshly prepared to order. The Gingered Calamari was light and not overpowered with the house made ginger and fresh cilantro vinaigrette. Portions were quite generous. To close out the meal, the chef had prepared a white chocolate bread pudding that was not too sweet and smooth. The meal was delicious! I am up in St Augustine on business and went to Yelp for a recommendation for a dinner spot and they hit the nail on the head with this place. Super friendly staff and excellent food. I went with the build your own burger - 9 oz angus patty, bacon, cheddar, and jalapeños. Cooked to order right in front of you. Fresh made buns every day. They also have a great craft beer selection from across the sunshine state for a small restaurant. Our Saturday night's alternative to fighting the traffic in downtown St. Augustine, my family and I had a pleasant dinner here. Food? Pretty great, but could use that extra umph- My steamed vegetable salad was just what I asked for, tasty fresh veggies, not to mention ample topping and dressing! However, my sister's burger was cooked just right, but she said it was a tad bland. The fries weren't too different than what you'd find at the next quickie bar, but they were warm and filling. The kind of person I am, I noticed that the walls were a little bare, and that the bathrooms were a little basic, but everything was absolutely spotless (and the bathroom had a nice little timed air freshener sprayer! No shame in having the hot wings here.) Our waitress was very sweet and helpful! She assisted my dad through choosing a beer, readily offering samples and the like. Fantastic experience! We are visiting from California and have found the the culinary options lacking in variety and particularly freshness in Florida. The Press broke that mold. The food options were standard but were very fresh and had a refreshing twist. The beer selection was brilliant and the wine was great. The stand out was the service - our server Gabby made our visit extra ordinary! I've been here three times now and all three times the meals were great. It doesn't seem like the kind of place you would stray from just the burgers or sandwiches but I had the salmon entree one night and it was as good as any steakhouse around. I have also had the Datil burger which is one of the best burgers ive had anywhere besides on my own grill. One thing that doesn't quite measure up is the French fries. You can obviously tell they are just freezer fries tossed in the fryer. Nothing special about them. read more

My wife and I planned a visit to St Augustine during the Christmas holidays, so naturally we did some research on the Yelp site to help us find some new restaurants to try during this visit. The Press sounded like one of the types of places we enjoy trying. Pulling up to the place, located in a small strip mall right on SR-16, it seems unassuming. We went in and had lunch and it was amazing. I had the salmon/BLT sandwich and she had the Mahi fish sandwich. Both were excellent and come with a homemade side dish, and are served on a fresh baked bun that enhanced the overall sandwich. Good bread, good meat, good sandwich. Wine and beer selection was impressive for a small place. Prices were very reasonable as well. The next day, when deciding where to go for dinner, we both knew we wanted to try The Press again. This is something we never do, which is go to the same place two days in a row. Dinner was excellent. I had the roasted half-chicken dinner and my wife had a craving for a burger. Presentation on my dinner was great, taste was great, and my wife's burger was prepared perfectly as well, and came on the same style homemade bun. We met the owner (Kevin), his wife (Simone) and their family and told them what a wonderful concept and restaurant they have. The place is very clean, the food is great, the service and atmosphere are wonderful. What more can you want? And the prices are reasonable, especially for the quality of the food.
