Total hidden gem. This place doesn't look like much from the outside but stepping into the restaurant, you immediately feel like you're in good company and just know everything is going to be good. Their menu has a lot of variety but is simple. I met my husband and father for lunch after they played a golf round near by and we all really enjoyed our meals. Mozz sticks were hot and fresh, pizza was SO good and the burger was up there with the best our party has ever had. Service was great. Would definitely frequent if we lived closer but will stop back in next time we're passing through. read more

Place is small and the food is average the pizza is good way to big for the large. Buffalo chicken dip good but it took some time and the server I got was a older lady with no manners. She's so unhappy you dont want to ask for anything. The parking stinks the place is one square box it's over priced and I could take it or leave it. The pizza is always enough to take home so dont over order. They got a regular lunch crowd allot of workers on lunch or regulars. read more

Everyone's heard the verbiage "eat like a local" well I did just that after arriving at Jim's Place. This self proclaimed "New York Pizza in the Country" says it all and was something unexpected, yeah I read the reviews but walking in from the front porch through the antique over-size door was quite the experience. The staff here is focused on customer service and getting the food to the table, so some of the good house keeping practices may take a backseat. Depending on the time of the day you may be seated at a table that hasn't exactly been cleared from the previous customer yet or you can just walk in and pick your spot, we chose to grab a table without asking and it seemed no one had a problem with it. I recommend you come here when there isn't anything pressing in your schedule because this place operates on its own clock and that's just fine with me it's nice to be a little laid back at times - the food is prepared fresh to order so the clock doesn't start ticking until you place your order and that's the focus FIFO (first in first out) so it's relatively easy to know when your orders is coming out of the kitchen if you're paying attention. Pizzas are medium and large or by the slice, and I definitely recommend it - thin crust, delicious sauce, really nice stretchy mozzarella cheese, lots of pepperoni and ground sausage simply delicious no matter the toppings you choose I'm sure. The menu contains lots of options, we also enjoyed a toasted Philly Cheese Steak Sub as well, now that will make you smile too. The staff here is very friendly and as accommodating as possible, the steady flow of customers kept them hopping so practice some patience they are by no means over-staffed here which probably is why their prices are so reasonable. Elkton is a small town just far enough outside of St. Augustine to feel like you're in the country. It's the site of the longtime diner Jim's Place, which occupies the former space of the Masters Grocery general store and has walls covered in memorabilia, including an A&P grocery sign. We stopped in Saturday for the first time. I had the big Italian sub sandwich which was toasted. It had so much onions, lettuce and tomatoes that it was hard to close the bread around. The Italian dressing was on the side so I added it and mustard. Pretty good sandwich! My sons had a half-cheese, half-pepperoni pizza and liked it -- saying it was just like the ones we'd get at the now-closed DeLeon Pizza next to Epic Theatre. That restaurant was owned by the same family as Jim's. We'll be back again for the steak dinner served on Wednesdays. read more

Driven by this place and wish we had stopped sooner! My son got the Buffalo chicken tenders with fries. He ranked these ahead of Bold Birds which has now been dethroned. He also loved the sweet tea. Since it was Friday I got the fish. Two big pieces with coleslaw and onion rings. The onion rings were unique in a crispy kind of way and delicious. Coleslaw was sweet like I prefer and a little (pun intended) on the small side. We will stop in here every time we do our country drive. Great food; great service! This little hole in the wall is a great local restaurant. When the server gets to know you, they bring your drink upon arrival to the tables. It's like hanging out with family! The beer is always cold, and refills are close at hand. The burgers are thick, juicy, and made to order. The wings are crispy but juicy inside. Pizza is always a hit, too. Price is reasonable and the location is relaxed. Great for lunch after hitting the bike trail or a country ride on the motorcycle or open jeep. read more

Hidden gem . We will definitely be back when driving thru this way. Stopped here for a Saturday lunch. I got the club sandwich and he got the cheese calzone. He is super picky with any type of pizza. His first bite he said "wow". My club sandwich bread was toasted to perfection and cheese melted just right. Service was fine. Love the old feel of the general store type of building. I took my grand nephew and grand niece to Jim's Place after visting the Lighthouse and making the Stations at St. Ambrose last March. I don't have pizzeria pizza that often, preferring my homemade cauliflower crust pizza to anything else. But we were all pleasantly surprised at how good the New York style pizza is at this out-of-the-way restaurant! The crust and sauce were perfect. We had a cheese pizza and there was no need to add any other toppings to make it better. It was good enough that I brought my pizza-loving grandsons there soon after and they want to try it again! They also had fries and chicken wings but we'd really be satisfied next time with just the pizza. I'm a new St. Augustinian happily trying out the great restaurants in the area, and Jim's Place definitely has my favorite St. Augustine pizza so far! read more

A friend and I had a craving for real hamburgers at work. We called our order in which was super simple. The staff at the restaurant was quick and friendly. The hamburgers were great and reminded me of hamburgers I had at home yeas ago. The size of the burgers are huge and I will just have a single next time it was sooo much food. read more

Stopped here on a whim as we were passing by. This is definitely a good place to stop for some traditional American food. I had the antipasto salad. It was simple, but good. My husband got a burger with jalapeños and cheese. He loved it! My mom got a mushroom burger and said she really enjoyed it. The onion rings were thick and cooked nicely. My daughter got the corn dog and fries. For just under $4, I was pleasantly surprised because nowadays a kids meal cost between 8-10 dollars. I have driven by Jim's Place for many years! My wife says "it looks by a biker bar" Her best friend suggested we stop by for dinner. I pulled my 28 foot class class C into the joint and behold ...a huge parking lot behind the building. The menu is large and they offer many Italian dishes, subs, and burgers. The specials tonight were lasagna and fried chicken and a ham and cheese sub. We ordered three lasagnas. The service was good and the decor was country. I would have given them five stars but the lasagna was really hot on the top but a bit cold in the middle. The key lime pie was a buy at $2.99. A good place to eat and not a biker in sight! Jim's Place was exactly what I expected it to be a small town restaurant with good food. They were busy but our wait was minimal. Facilities were clean, food was good and hot, and the service was adequate. I ordered the Philly cheese steak while not overly large it did certainly hit the spot. My coworker ordered a veggie wrap which was a huge calzone. She tried her best to eat half of it and failed. A comment on the food. We've been to lunch twice in the last year. Great burgers. On Wed 8/9 we stopped for liner (late lunch 3:45). We ordered Philly Sausage & Chicken cordon blue sandwichs. The Philly Sausage was okay. The chicken was a breast that was grilled dry and tough, one piece of cheese & one piece of ham. Suggest the chicken be hammered to tenderize it. Went by and place not full and waited for 15 min before server cane to me because she was busy cleaning up tables that customer left plus attending to cashier. You would think they would serve customers that hasn't order yet to prevent them from walking out which is lost revenue and bad reviews so I didn't because I was hungry but not going back. Just driving around today and ran across this hidden gem on the way to the County Line Produce. I ordered online and by the time I finished picking up the greens and on the way back to the I-95 we stopped at Jim's Place. Upon entering the business, I was immediately taken back to my childhood and a time when my grandpa ran a country store at the foot of the Blue Ridge Mountains. The food was hot and delicious. We ordered Philly Cheese Baked Subs and it's one of the best I've had in years. The other items in the menu looked good. The aroma of NY Pizza was intoxicating. Yum! What a rare find! It is near palatka florida, food is really good but they felt a bit overwhelmed with being very busy on NYE. Regardless our food was very good. Onion rings were over the top good. And if you order the catch of the day, it is so good and you get so much. Also have to mention the red beans and rice. Oh yea!!! Now as for me, I have to eat gluten free, so I did the jalapeño cheeseburger with a bun and it was perfect!! French fries were amazing too. Nothing more needing to be said. Jim's is a very country restaurant which is clean and provide good Covid 19 precautions. They also have a real nice big porch you can a it on. We started out with the garlic rolls which I give a 9 out of 10. They seemed homemade. Also had the fried mushrooms which were delicious with a tasty dressing for dipping. They are very hot when they come out so be careful. I rate the mushrooms a 8.5 out of 10. We also hit the corn nuggets which are delicious and very hot. I give them a 7.9 out of 10. We got a large half cheese half block olive and mushroom. I am a tuff scorer on pizza. The over all pizza was a 5.1 while my wife gave it a 6. I was not a huge fan of the crust. But it was still a good pizza. The service is also excellent. Appetizers came out really fast. I will be coming back to try the cheese burger and the Philly cheese steak. That's my review. read more

When my partner and his brother were out working a few weeks ago, they discovered Jim's Place near one of the job sites. The guys came home from work that first day raving about the excellent meal they had and have continued to visit if they have ended up in the area. Yesterday, I ended up helping my partner for the day and we had to do some work nearby to Jim's. I was excited when he pulled into the parking lot, for lunch, after having heard so many good things. This restaurant, out in the tiny little town of Elkton, resides in a building that used to house the local general store. It's not much by way of furniture, but there's some old fashioned booths, as well as regular tables inside. Additionally, there is a beautiful porch to enjoy your lunch outside on our non-rainy Florida days. There's also a ton of memorabilia on the walls. Given that one of the owners is originally from New Jersey, it has a feel of Yankee-ness to it. I can't really describe the feeling other than it just reminds me of mom and pop places up North. My partner stuck with his usual of a burger and onion rings. After much deliberation, I ordered an Italian sausage, peppers, and onions grinder. It was sensational; almost as if they made the sausage in house (they didn't, but they must get it from a local butcher or something). I'm going to have to come back to sample more of this smorgasbord of Americana, especially the NY Style Pizza. I have yet to find anything down here that compares to up North and I have faith that Jim's just might. I suggest if you want to go out for Saturday drive, you take SR 13 from Mandarin and on down to Elkton. It's a gorgeous ride, right along the St. John's. Take the ride and then grab a bite at Jim's. Don't go on Sunday, though! They are closed on Sunday and Monday. read more
