Steak, ale and mushroom pie, Cornish pasty and apple blackberry and raspberry pie
Dana T.

10/10 experience at The Pie Store in Upper Montclair! Stepping inside feels like walking into a cozy movie scene. Owners Samantha Codling and Frankie Faison create such a warm, welcoming, and delightfully lively atmosphere. The savory and sweet pies are out-of-this-world good--the crust is thick, flaky, and full of flavor. The steak, ale, and mushroom pie had massive, tender pieces of beef in a rich gravy, and the Cornish pasty was giant, super moist, and perfectly seasoned. Endlessly charmed by this spot and can't wait for my next visit!

Got two premium sausage pastries and they were really good. Pleasant, mild flavor and the flakey pastry surrounding the sumausage was primo. 5/5 Main reason I went here was to snag a key lime pie because it's my GF's fave. Followed the directions for the medium size, which was to leave out of the fridge for an hour before eating. Unsure what went awry, but i left it out for 20 minutes and that seemed to make the pie disintegrate. Tasted OK but I think it could have been better had it remained a solid mass. 3.5/5

I made the short trek to Montclair with a friend to taste these delicious-looking pies. The shop itself is really tiny; you might be able to fit about 12 people shoulder to shoulder standing inside between the pie case/cashier station and the handful of shelves displaying British pantry supplies, snacks ("crisps" aka potato chips), and sweets like Cadbury's, Jelly Babies etc. There's no tables, so don't plan on eating in here. Back home, I followed the instructions the saleswoman wrote on the box and baked the pie for 25 minutes at 350F. It was deliciously packed high with apples, not the usual 1 to 2-inch-high pie. The (HUGE) Cornish pasty is the best of both worlds: a flaky pastry-like crust with a delicious savory, creamy filling of ground beef, potatoes, and carrots (and I think a bit of a gravy). TPS is a bit pricy, but very good and a unique option in our local restaurant scene.

The chocolate chip scone was the right combination of soft and crispy. We bought a Portuguese egg custard tart that was so delicious, that it didn't even make it to the car! Yummmmm

Returning customer. Good pie. But I personally may not ever return due to the service I received today. I hope that cashier / human at the front is okay.

The pies here are good but pricey. The sausage roll is really good. The pasties are well filled and enough for two meals.

The actual doughnut base for all of these were ideal and had a nice balance with the toppings and fillings. Tres Leches - This was dipped in a vanilla bean glaze and soaked in triple milk cream with whipped cream and a cherry. This was tasty. I could not really tell it was three milks, but it was very moist and the cream was fulfilling. Lemon Raspberry Jam - This was a brioche doughnut with raspberry jam and was coated with a tart lemon glaze. This was solid. There was a ton of raspberry jam, and it was flavorful. I actually wanted more from the lemon glaze. The raspberry overpowered it just a little bit. Strawberry Shortcake - This tasted exactly like the frozen treat. I liked the crumbles on top, and it brought me back to eating the frozen treats back in the day. Chocolate Peanut Butter - This was my favorite one. There was a ton of peanut butter filling. It was not like most peanut butter filled doughnuts I had. I could not tell exactly what it was, but it was very good. The chocolate icing just nicely paired with that filling.

We ate outside under the shade. Will definitely be back!

Had dinner here a few weeks ago and WOW Montclair really is not giving up its title for best food…read morecity anytime soon. We're still slowly working our way through local spots, and Brick + Dough was highly recommended to us. We started with garlic knots, bread, and fries, and honestly... 10/10 across the board. Everything was SO good. The fries especially are still living rent free in my head. We then split three pizzas, all of which were seriously incredible. The perfect balance of cheese, sauce, and crust, just absolutely nailed. We ended the night with cookies and ice cream, and I can confidently say this place will be seeing me again very, very soon. It might even end up replacing our current go-to pizza spot...

The service was nice, especially because even though we were the only table sitting outside, they were consistently coming out to make sure we were doing OK and had everything we needed. We ordered some garlic knots, which were good, it just seemed a little bit pricey to charge for the marinara sauce separately, which was not really outstanding nor something special, so I would recommend you skip it. We also ordered the chicken vodka Parm pie which was very good. The chicken was very crispy and the pizza was still delicious the next day when we had the leftovers. One of her friends is allergic to gluten, so it was very nice that they were able to accommodate for her. I do wanna point out that we have been to many places that offer gluten-free options and this is the first one I've been to that does charge you extra to make a gluten-free. In terms of price, it is very similar to the other places in Montclair but they do provide very good service and the ambience both outside and inside is very nice.

During my visit, I experience good customer service; employees are kind and helpful with navigating…read morethe menu. The Lentil Soup is a calm soup, not too salty, not too spicy, carrying natural lentil bean flavors, earthy and warm. The Naan is soft, savory, and like a tender fluffy pita bread with light seasoning. Aside from the meal, I think double checking utensils is so important in kitchen environments (where utensils are put to re-use). Thanks for being patient and understanding with my request to change spoons (the first time, in the photo, due to a food like stain, and the second time due to a dry dishwasher soap/milk like stain). Also, I think, if possible, replacing the fogging/smog-stainful-looking plastic like cups (for free water) with paper-like cups or by way of glass cups and metal-like pitchers may contribute to the eatery's ambience well. Down-to-earth vibes. The eatery has indoor and outdoor seating. The establishment accepts different forms of payment.

I saw the good reviews so I was disappointed when I received my desserts. Most of the cake slices were around $7, but when I asked for a cheesecake or pistachio one, one slice was $13 which I found to be expensive so I did not get that one. My friends and I decided on 3 cakes: strawberry, Oreo, and chocolate. I don't think I will ever be returning - the cakes tasted old. The best way to describe it was a like it came from a chain supermarket - lacking flavor and not up to fresh quality. The only one that was edible was the chocolate slice. We felt so bad to have to throw away the other two cakes, but they were not good at all. It was a waste of money to pay so much for a slice and not eat it.
