Grilled chicken ranch wrap with mac and cheese

Great food and great service! Just wish I worked closer to it. Nothing I would change, more chicken in sandwich than I expected made it very filling.

Tucked in the southeast corner of City Market, this gem awaits. I'd heard from some people that it was some solid food so I had to see for myself. I was their first customer of the day and ordered my meal of salmon, with the two sides (I got Mac&cheese and broccoli). The salmon was flavorful and a big portion, I couldn't even finish it all. The broccoli was cooked perfectly with enough flavor, but not coated in butter and/or salt. And the Mac & Cheese was sooo good- not greasy or too much/little cheese. I wanted to just keep eating it all. AND it was $10... $10.80 with tax... I mean, what a steal for what I got! Definitely give this place a try on your lunch hour downtown!

If you like Caesar Salad, then I highly recommend the Grilled Chicken Caesar Wrap! Great grilled flavor of the chicken paired really well with the mini salad (including a few croutons!) inside the wrap. And the portion was generous too! If you need more than this, they do have some sides, but I haven't tried those yet. Located in the south east corner of City Market, there is an order window with some of the entrees written out on small black boards. They also have printed menus on the right of those. When it is your turn to order, they take your payment, give you a number, and then you wait for it to be called. I grabbed one of the bar stools nearby that looks like it is from an unused kitchen (maybe they have classes or demonstrations there.) For dining, you either take your selection to go or haul it up the stairs to the seating that overlooks the market. This is a place I would gladly return! Review #2297

This place was ok. It is just located in the City Market where there are tons of great places to grab a bite. So, the bar is set pretty high in that place. I ordered the chicken salad and it was decent and they put a lot of it on the croissant. However, it was so heavy that it wold not stay on the bread and just feel into my tray when I picked up the sandwich. The potato chips looked and tasted homemade. They were pretty good too. They have limited drink options and no fountain drinks. I went to the cookie shop and got a drink (along with some after work treats). This place is not bad and the food is decent. It is actually closer to a 3.5, but that is not an option so I went with a 3.

Salmon, broccoli, mac and cheese.... Phenomenal!!! I can't wait to go back!

Salmon (crisp to perfection), broccoli (seasoned well), mac and cheese (creamy goodness).... Phenomenal!!! I can't wait to go back! It's in the City County Building near the Market Street entrance.

Ladies and gentleman: I just had a food baby. His name is Fried Chicken. He, like many other babies, was the result of gluttony and lack of self control...I just couldn't. seem. to. put. the. chicken. down. Hell, at one point in the meal I ended laying on my couch with the paper plate on my belly and ate only the skin off of one of the pieces- because it was that damn good and I knew I wouldn't be able to make it to the insides. I've long heard of Chef Brad Gates Fried Chicken Wednesdays and the day finally came for me to step up to the counter and place my order for the $10 meal that comes with a generous serving of Quebec Mac n' cheese and a cord salad/relish. I'll admit that the sticker price of $10 gave me a bit of shock at first for lunch, but when they handed me that fresh pile of three hefty piece of chicken, I quit my internal bitchin' because this, my friend, was not one meal but two. When meals of this nature come way, I like to justify the price by saying, "well, technically it's $5 each meal." Tucked away in the southeast corner of City Market, The Pantry makes use of local ingredients and shines even brighter in my eyes with multiple herb plants growing on the counters and windowsill. I'd like to think that the herbs found in my meal came directly from those charming plants. In addition to daily lunch offerings, Chef Brads Gates also runs a catering business. Many of the meals/menus that are available are piled on a shelving unit at the store's front. I look forward to spreading the cheer of the fried chicken and sampling many other menu offerings down the road.

It's not too bad. Definitely the "foodie-est" food vendor in City Market. Lamb burger was cooked well, but could use a little more salt and some kind of sauce (tzatziki perhaps?) to moisten it up a bit. Macaroni and cheese is definitely made from fresh cheese and not from a packet. Fried chicken could use some additional seasoning as well. Wait times are a little longer (5-10 minutes) than other vendors because everything is made fresh.

Caesar salad- not on the menu but they can make it! $10

The Pantry is my go to in City Market. Their chicken is delicious and they have several items on their menu with it in it. The chicken Cesar wrap with a side of steamed broccoli is my favorite meal they have but they are known for their chicken fingers. They give you a huge portion of the chicken fingers and the breading is unlike any other!! They do cook everything fresh to order so expect to wait 10 mins sometimes on your food if their is a line. Try to go a little before noon or right around 1 to beat the crowd. On days they are offering chicken fingers, they sometimes run out before 1PM.

I'm discovering more places around the City County Building for lunch almost weekly! I usually bring my lunch but once in awhile I venture out for something different. Brad' s Kitchen has never disappointed! From their freshly made chef salad to OMG MAC AND CHEESE to today's Fish and Chips! As usual, the service was fast and friendly. The FISH AND CHIPS was DELICIOUS! Fried catfish nuggets with the lightest, tastiest batter and creamy cole slaw! I had to give my cole slaw away to a friend-- can't have seafood and cole slaw on the same day, but she stated it was delicious as well. I just wish the meal included FRIES instead of bland potato chips !

One of the many beautiful cheese arrangements at a recent wedding catered by Brad. Sooooo good!

Brad is an all around tribute to the ginger take over! From finger licking fried chicken, to succulent beef satay...it really doesn't matter the dish, it's divine! His food is carefully crafted by hand ( I've seen him slaving away cutting individual ravioli so by hand...trust me he does it all!) which proudly displays the true craftsmanship of a true chef. On top of having simply an amazing culinary gift, Brad and his team are a true testament to classic hospitality. I once asked Brad to cater my father's surprise 50th party at Flat12. Now being a young college student, my resources were limited, but I wanted only the best for dad. I told Brad of my needs and he threw together a buffet menu that not only blew my guests away, but did not break my budget. Brad even gifted my family with extra appetizers and desserts to ensure that my guests were fed and happy. I will push any newly engaged couple, any family party, any corporate event, shoot any folks in need of a quality caterer to Brad Gates. He is by far one of the best chefs in Indianapolis.

I've struggled with how to rate and review Goose the Market for a long time…read more I've struggled mightily. It's an Indianapolis icon in many ways. It's beloved. And listen, it's not the most wheelchair friendly place in the world. If you're a wheelchair user, you're in all likelihood not going to the cellar unless you're extraordinary with you're chair or you crawl. I remember attending a Yelp event here, and I just wrestled with these issues so much. It's not inaccessible - you can get in the door, though even the parking is a bit wonky and the curb-cuts a bit worn. This is an older building in an older neighborhood. So yeah, if you're a wheelchair user plan ahead. I am a wheelchair user. And I suppose I should knock off my usual 1-star for accessibility issues. But, I just can't do it. I, instead, choose to go 5-stars with my narrative disclaimer that there are accessibility issues here. But, my word. This is a great place and every single experience I've had with Goose the Market, including last night's Italian Film Festival, has been stellar whether I'm in their location or at an event they are catering. What is Goose the Market? First off, nearly everyone considers it one of the best - Indianapolis Monthly, Eater, Yelp, etc. Goose the Market offers a daily menu of sandwiches, soups, gelato, and small plates. It offers raw beef, pork, poultry, game, seafood, in-house made sausage/smoked meats, and more. It offers charcuterie - both in-house and from other producers. It offers farmstead cheeses, fresh produce, artisan breads, preserves, sauces, pickles, pasta, crackers, flours/grains, and a lot more. There's the cellar - Enoteca bar with Italian style wine by the glass and small plates (and it has all-ages seating). Goose the Market offers a wine of the month club, gift cards, catering, classes, daily specials, and more. What can I say? There are those places that are worth the effort. As a lifelong person with a disability, I long ago realized the world would never be perfectly accessible. It's never going to happen. I'll continue to work toward a more accessible world, though I'll also honor that there are those places where I feel welcome anyway. I feel welcome at Goose the Market, though I can't quite get the full experience. The service is exceptional, the products quite awesome, the environment warm and friendly, and there's simply no doubt it's one of Indy's treasures. So yeah, five stars. With a disclaimer that those with mobility impairments may need to plan ahead or have a companion along. Who wants to be my companion?

You can browse the various freezers or shelves for items like picked veggies, canned fish or spreads. It was fun to see that you could buy everything needed for a picnic or impromptu lunch! We got sandwiches to go as well as locally baked cookies. I tried the recommendation for a vegetarian sandwich. It was nice and crusty and had some good flavor. I might create my own next time, but theirs was good and had lots of flavor! My friend was new to Indianapolis and really liked the options. She said she would be back and so will we. They also do tasting events and other things so we might check out one of their offerings. A fun local spot!

There were a few designs to choose from: a lobster, an oyster, and a fish, from what I can recall. She also introduced me to our gracious host for the evening, Nolan, who was running the show. Nolan is a big ball of energy and a joy to be around. He set the vibes to light, fun and whimsical and I really appreciated that. Everyone moved around the room freely, visiting all of the tasting stations that were set up with whimsical, hand-drawn decorations on the paper tablecloths (much like that seen on the Pinterest commercial). There were 6 different ones, all with multiple options at each station. I tried sardines, razor clams, pickled ramps, an entire array of Fishwife tinned items, mustards, seafood dip that is made in-house, oysters, the list goes on. They also introduced me to an Indiana-based soda company call Bollygood, with Indian-inspired flavors. I love, love, love the Lime Basil Cumin flavor. I wasn't too sure about that combo, but it was delicious and super-refreshing. It smelled like a taco...but didn't taste like one! The Lemon Mango Turmeric was really good too. I also enjoyed the demonstrations lead by Chef Amber. She also has a light that was a pleasure to witness. I could just tell that she really loves what she does. While she does not work there, she still gets to come back for the fun stuff (her words). She has been a huge influence on the whole tinned fish movement at the smokehouse and develops recipes and curates these events alongside Nolan and the team. I loved both recipes that were shared with us and her enthusiasm to show us how we can elevate the tinned fish beyond the can. We mingled. We made friends. I spent a pretty penny on several of the delicious items that I was introduced to. I look forward to attending more events here in the future.

When I walked in, I heard someone say from that back that they'd be with me in a little while. It wasn't long before a young man came out to speak with me. It was about 90 minutes before closing and he immediately told me I should not expect service right before closing. I apologized, said I thought they closed at 6pm, he said they did, then said he'd go to the back to see if they'd be willing to talk to me. Someone was in the back washing dishes, but never came to the front. The same employee came back out, sighed, and said he'd take my order. I told him I had never been in, I just heard about it from the gift card, and was curious what I could order and what was included with the menu items (inside, it's just a counter and a table off to the side with trays/boxes with names, but not prices or a list of what comes in them). He told me I should read the TV, which looked to be off at the time. He turned it back on while huffing and puffing, then said "LOOK!" at the menu, which was just names of the boxes with prices, not sizes or again what's included/what I can choose from. I remained calm, despite feeling uncomfortable, and again asked if I could see a list of what's included or what I can choose from, and if I can pick something up same day or order for a future pickup (I was honestly hoping for a grab & go cooler like other similar places but no problem, I can order something for another time). I still have no idea what items are available, as the employee was just getting more and more mad at me with each question, which he refused to answer. I told him I was feeling uncomfortable, which he just said, "okay!" so I said I didn't feel like I was wanted there as a customer, and I left. I've tried calling the store to rectify the situation and maybe speak with a different employee or member of management. Either the phone just rings and rings or the same employee I spoke with in-person answers. I really wanted to use my gift card but I'd rather throw it away than go through that experience again.
