The Old Mohawk is a favorite place for good food and great drinks. We've rarely had to wait for a table even when the restaurant is busy, great wait staff, and a solid menu with a good list of seasonal options. I have never been disappointed with the food or the service. It can be loud if it is busy, but I consider that part of the ambiance and charm of the place. Be sure to check out the art, by local artists, displayed on the wall. While Columbus has plenty of tourist-centric restaurants, the Old Mohawk is somewhere the locals, like myself, feel more at home, but tourists are welcome. read more

Food is pretty good. Chef salad was huge. I had enough left over for lunch the next day. South west chicken wrap is pretty tasty. They do allow substitutions. Location could use some sprucing up on the inside though. read more

I had my last dinner at the Mohawk last night. I dont know what is going on there but the last 1 - 2 years they have gone downhill. Pasta dish with heavy cream sauce (heavy on the flour). Meatloaf wasn't bad but the mashed potatoes tasted like potato flakes were used, canned green beans. (maybe some like flakes and canned? I'd expect that only in a cafeteria) Reuben sandwich...meat chewy and outsides had clearly dried out. Had the fries "upgrade". Enough for me, but there were not many. So, food was a bummer. I know a lot of people are very devoted to the Old Mohawk, but I have never really been a fan. I've been several times, and while it is by no means BAD, I have never been particularly impressed with it. My most recent visit, I had the Woodstock special, which is a housemade veggie burger with chips and salsa. The sandwich's taste was fine, but the veggie burger was so soft that its texture was virtually identical to the hummus that was also on the sandwich. When I pressed on the sandwich to cut it, the entire veggie patty squished out the sides of the bun. The chips and salsa tasted like they were out of purchased bags/jars. My boyfriend, my parents, and myself had planned on going to Schmidt's last night, but the wait was about an hour and a half, so we decided on The Old Mohawk instead. Walking in, this place is so cool looking. The exposed brick walls and original ceiling make you know you're in German Village and that this place has been around awhile. I loved all the local artwork hanging on the walls for sale. The beer selection was awesome and the menu is HUGE. It was hard to decide. You're going to find standard American fare here...everything from burgers to quesadillas to pasta and everything in between. I happened to be a little adventurous. I tried the Mohawk Turtle Soup. Yes. Turtle soup. It was really good, but not really what I was expecting. It was basically a loaded up vegetable soup with chunks of turtle meat. The turtle was actually beefy and tasted like red meat, which I was not expecting at all. I also had a half Reuben and it was a pretty standard Reuben sandwich. My boyfriend and dad had the Mother Mohawk sandwich, which was roast beef, chicken salad, and melted Swiss cheese on rye bread with a horseradish dipping sauce, which they both said was good, but kind of a weird combination. They both got the potato pancakes, and I tried them and they were good. My mom had the cobb salad and she said the best part was the avocado ranch dressing. I would like to come back here another time and try more of the menu and more of the beer. It's for sure a neighborhood hang out and very relaxed and I liked that atmosphere a lot. read more

Passing through town and was recommended to stop here for supper. I got the French onion soup, very tasty. I could have gone for a second bowl. I also got a half order of their mac and cheese. Very good but kind of dry, I wish it was a bit creamier. My friends got a burger and the French dip, both said they were very good. I will definitely eat here again when in the area. read more

Pass on this one. I've given this place 2 chances, and both times it has left me disappointed and hungry. First time I was there, ordered the bratwurst sandwich. It's a good thing to order if you have nothing to do for the rest of the day but lay on the couch. waaaayy to rich and greasey. the second time i was there, I tried to go healthy and get the veggie burger. It was ok, and was served with tortilla chips and what tasted like Picante salsa. Hungry shoppers arrived during happy hour and were pleased to get seated quickly. We ordered the Hummus plate and the Spinach Artichoke dip. Both came quickly and were fresh and excellent. Of the four entrees the Bratwurst sandwich and the Blackened Chicken Burrito were unique and outstanding. We closed the meal with a slice of the pumpkin role with whip cream and caramel. My wife and I discovered Mohawk due to Schmidt's being packed. Another day we found each other at Mohawk again after Thurman Cafe was packed. With multiple visits like that, Mohawk is no longer where we end up when the destination is crowded, but has become the destination. Amazing beer list, and a menu that gives you a slice of anything you can find elsewhere in German Village: Great brats? Check. Great salads? Check Huge servings? You bet And did I say great beer? Multiple rotating seasonal taps mean you ALWAYS will find the beer for you! Rye of the Tiger, Rogue Dead Guy, Bell's Oberon... Great stuff! read more

I've been to the Mohawk a number of times and it's consistent if nothing else. The service has always been very good, attentive and consistently filling the drinks. The food is pretty much above average. It hits the spot, for a good price and gets you on your way. It's not fancy in any way, but it certainly fits a good role in this neighborhood. The Mother Mohawk is my sandwich of choice. I had the Buffalo Chicken once, I'd stay away from that. It had no character to me. They seem to have great daily specials (Lasagna Wednesdays, Meat loaf Thursdays) which I would love to try--but, haven't been able to get in there on these days yet. If you're in the neighborhood and want a decent meal for a decent price (without waiting hours for Schmidt's or Thurman) try it out. read more

Dark and cozy. The Old Mohawk has some delicious food that ranks high above bar fare. The dessert is particularly good.

I loved the atmosphere here, this fit in well and blew away the plank bier garten which we stopped at first. Had the signature sandwich that was novel and good, potato pancakes also good. My wife had the hummus app (half off apps at happy hour is a really good deal). Platter was large and good, French onion soup also good. Notice the theme, loved the atmosphere, popular place always a plus, food was good but not outstanding so I stuck with a 3. Flooring and tablecloths could also use upgrading. read more

A key item to be aware of, in case you haven't been, is the Tuesday night all-you-can-eat quesadillas. They're still doing that, right? Those quesadillas are gooooood. And they have great salads, if you're trying to be healthy. Whatever your need, this place has most likely got you covered. The Mohawk is just a solid neighborhood joint - not trying to do anything revolutionary, just looking to serve solid food and drink that will please. A great mix of bar and restaurant atmosphere. The menu selection was pretty adequate for the type of dining. They had a wide variety of vegetarian selections which impressed me. The Caesar salad was a little heavy on the dressing but the veggie wrap sandwich was pretty tasty. I would have preferred that it was served with something other than what was basically tostito's chips and pace picante sauce. read more

i think i might just love this place. My guy and i have been here quite a bit lately, since he recently moved next door, and we've made it a habit to stop by for a drink when we get a chance. We actually haven't sampled much of the food, but the pours are hefty (we're jameson/rocks types) and the staff is wonderful! They knew our names and preferred adult beverage by our third visit, are consistently on point with their service and, when it's not too busy, are always ready with some engaging banter. Even when he decides to move from German Village, I expect that we'll still make the trek there to visit this great neighborhood bar. read more

One of my favorite places to go in German Village to eat with friends. The ambiance is so welcoming and unique, nestled in the lovely German Village. My favorite dish is the Cajun seafood pasta. We were looking for a quick meal while out shopping and we were not disappointed in this cute little pub. They were a little busy but we got a table right away and the server was quick and very helpful when it came to choosing items. Of course I had to try the turtle soup which was good but with all the hype I guess I expected something more memorable. It was decent. However, the hummus plate was by far the best made hummus I've had and would strongly recommend giving it a try. For the meal we ordered the Black and Bleu Burger and the Bratwurst Sandwich. The Old Mohawk is the kind of place where everybody feels at home whether you've been there once or 100 times. Old Mohawk packs them in, so don't be surprised if you have to wait for a table, but you can always grab a drink by the bar in the meantime.They are famous for their unlimited quesadilla special on Tuesday night, but the truth is I don't see how anybody can make it through one order because there is so much meat in between the layers and oozing at the sides. Definitely worth a try, but just go with the regular helping size unless pregnant, glutenous, or thinking you might not live another day. We had full intentions of going to Graffiti Burgers to give them a try when a wrong turn and a misunderstanding in 5th Ave vs St, lol, we ended up at the Old Mohawk....I had heard from my fellow coworkers that this place served up some pretty good stuff and I should definitely try it sometime and I am so glad that I did! Steve and I were just planning on a small amount of food and a beer or two, but we got far more then that. Happy Hour is 4-7 everyday (I believe anyway) and that is the best time to go if you just want a nice outing with your honey in a quaint little area. The Server was very good and I am so mad at myself for not remembering her name as I am a Server also and love it when people mention my name in a review. It is OK that I didn't get her name as I can pretty much say I will be visiting this unusual place again. We ordered the Nachos which are vegetarian (for those of you whom care) They put vegetarian chili in it with lots of jalapenos, red peppers, loaded with cheese, etc. The most unique and best of all about the nachos is they serve the nacho topping in a bowl that literally just came out of the oven and boiling hot with bubbly cheese on top and a large dollop of sour cream on top of that big mess, and then the chips are fresh in house made (I believe) light and crisp, are served in a separate bowl. You are given two app plates so that you can dish out your own nachos and how great they don't get soggy at all! Still more on the nachos, they are 9.49 and I added chicken which was 3 dollars more, but it was half off due to happy hour so only cost me bout 6 bucks and it is freaking huge people so bring someone with you, lol!!! We took a box with us, but unfortunately and no fault of theirs the nacho topping nor chips are very good the next day : ( We also got the fried green beans with caraway sauce for only 3 bucks and they were so good. Finally we had two large Yuenglings on draft as they were only a buck 50 a piece YA! Long story short, lots of art work to look at, decent selection of beers (that I am told rotates quite often). Very extensive menu, I so want to do the hummus app, and so much of their other stuff looked awesome. If you need a lot of attention from your server during Monday at the start of happy hour this will not be the case. I loved our server and she was really friendly, helpful, nice. She was pretty busy when we went in with a good 6-7 tables, 2 of those tables parties of 5 or more. She sat us very quickly and really had only minimal time to spend with us and I understand as I am a server, but she did fine taking care of us, not making us wait and when we left she informed us of the beers changing frequently, and that the art all over the walls is switched out from month to month so locals can sell their art there. very nice girl and place and I will return again and again especially for happy hour! read more

What a great place! Unless you're REALLY hungry for sausage and don't mind waiting for hours outside Schmidt's, I highly suggest taking the three minute walk to the Old Mohawk. You can get sausage there, too. I had the Mother Mohawk sandwich and the WEDGE FRIES. The WEDGE FRIES are awesome! Have I mentioned the WEDGE FRIES? Seriously good. The sandwich was fantastic, too.
