Deep Fried Pickles

I have been here on several occasions. I love the food and the staff have always been very friendly. The interior is a very bluesy lounge club feel and the outdoor seating is great in nice weather. I also have appreciated them open late. Never have had a bad dish. Reason for 4 stars and not 5 is that on two occasions now, food took 30-40min to come out, and in both cases it was neither crowded nor did we order anything difficult.

While in town earlier this month I found myself looking for something to eat late on a Sunday and I stumbled upon this hidden gem. Like the name, it was down an Alley but well worth the walk. I ended up ordering to-go, I got the salmon cheesesteak which was pretty decent, but the energy and music was what sold me. Shay checked me out and was nice enough to share the playlist details with me upon my request. The vibe was so chill, I knew I'd be back. I came in a couple days later, late night for drinks and I brought in a decent sized group with me. Shay was AMAZING yet again, she remembered me and provided the same amazing service as before. There was a DJ in the building that night and he was nice enough to let us make a few song requests. The energy in this place is worth stopping by for and the food and drinks were both reasonably priced. I also LOVED the decor, both inside and out. If I find myself in the area again, I look forward to stopping by again.

If you're a burger fan, or love some loaded fries, you need to give Alley Burger a try! The name is fitting, as it's located in the alley in between North High & North Pearl St, making it feel even more like the hidden gem it is! The service is very friendly, the atmosphere is fun & they have tons of live music and specials in the evenings! The Alley Fries portions are massive, and the flavor combinations they have with these are crazy awesome! The BLT fries I had tasted fantastic! The burger was also huge, and one of the best I've had in the city! It was cooked perfectly, and it had just the right amount of toppings to burger ratio. They have tons of refreshing drinks for everyone; make sure to give this place a try!

Classic Burger and Truffle Fries
Dahlia W.

The Classic Burger was great, and it came out quickly! The fries were truffle fries but the truffle flavor was subtle. We were just stopping by for a snack, but their other menu items look super interesting! The interior is cool, with lots of custom street-style art on the walls. It was pretty empty when we stopped in, but it was around 11pm on a Friday night. The only iffy thing was that the menu doesn't mention that fries are included with burgers. The worker taking our order let us know, then asked if we wanted large fries. We said yes, but ended up being charged for the burger plus the full price for a side of fries. I guess the burger only comes with regular size fries, so it felt like we paid for a whole side just for a size upgrade. I would make sure to clarify when ordering.

What an incredible experience! My goodness!! First, I believe the owner had a vision and they MADE it happen, I felt like stepping into another dimension, the vibes were exquisite! From the decore, to the music to the staff everyone and everything was fitted to this soulful, colorful, beautiful restaurant. My service was amazing, extremely kind and welcoming! I loved seeing all the unique art expertly painted all over the walls inside and out! I had the Classic burger, so delicious!! the fries were tasty and perfectly seasoned! I really really enjoyed this place! Felt very community based, super welcoming! 10/10 (The pictures really don't do it justice)

Crispy chicken sandwich

Recently went for open mic night, it was nice. I got the chicken sandwich- 3.5/5. Cooked perfectly. Well seasoned, but the thicker part was a little more bland. Could do without the jam, I get the idea for the sweet to balance the spiciness but it was chunky and super sweet which overwhelmed everything else. It Also took a very long time to receive, which even the bartender noted. I've been other times for R&B Wednesday or just for a food. Overall, the food and service are okay, it's a nice local spot to support.

Want to preface this is a club as well as a restaurant! We were in town for a concert and were looking for something to eat afterwards. As we were walking back to our hotel we noticed Alley Burger across the street in the alley. Once we arrived we were taken back a little by security at the door. Once they explained that it was a club and restaurant we decided to stay. It was a beautiful evening so we took advantage of the outdoor seating. The burgers and fries were off the chart! The service was a little slow, but considering it was midnight I was just happy to get something good to eat. If you're in the area and looking for a great burger, this is your spot!

Turkey burger and seasoned fries

I was greeted with a beautiful smile from the gentleman behind the counter. I wish I would have gotten his name to give him some kudos for being so kind. The atmosphere was very welcoming and makes me want to go back for more. My food is absolutely delicious. The turkey burger is seasoned to perfection and fills up the entire Big bun. The seasoned fries are lacking that crunchy factor, but nonetheless still good.

(614) Burger + Beer Week: $8 BBQ Bacon burger! (10/18/2024)
Gwen W.

Came on a sunny Friday for a (614) Burger + Beer Week burger. This restraint has always had around the 3-Star mark, so I figured since Ringside was not participating in B+BW, why not. The inside is skinny and long. Booths down both sides and a long bar flanking the other wall. There were no other patrons at 12:30, literally. The gal (owner/partner maybe) seemed preoccupied; of course, when you have to work, and if your an owner/partner and there are no customers (usual), I'm sure it can get boring; somewhat understandable. I tried their special $8 BBQ Bacon Burger (bbq sauce on the side), Cher got their Classic with pepper-jack. My burger was really good, had to smash it down to get my mouth around the sucker. The onion straws were warm and crunchy - very, very good! The burger was seasoned nicely. After leaving, I did realize the "bacon" component probably comes via the bbq sauce. I didn't even sample it, was assuming it was plain bbq sauce, which I'm not too fond of, so I'm definitely bummed I didn't. The accompanying fries were also tasty; love their truffle oil and the hints of garlic. Crispy on the outside, soft and flavorful. My food was great, but the ambience/atmosphere, didn't really peak my interest. The lady manager actually was surprised at the slim crowd for a beautiful Friday (null, haha!); they serve brunch Friday-Sunday, and she said they usually get a healthy Friday lunch crowd, so this was definitely not the norm. I wouldn't mind coming back with friends, if this place were suggested. I thought the quality:quantity:price ratios were great. I did not look at their regular menu however, fyi. I do miss the general downtown buzz that was always present before the pandemic; workers were always out and about during lunch hours, especially on nice-weather Fridays, and this Pearl Alley corridor seemed to always be happenin' (morning, day, and nights). Pure nostalgia, haha.

BBQ Bacon

My friend was craving a burger after we attended high spirits festival and wanted somewhere close. When she mentioned the name I wanted to give it a try remembering all the hype this place got when they opened. The decor was pretty cool. The hostess didn't know we walked in because they were jamming to the r&b music as they should. We were a group of 3 and wanted to make sure we could accommodate the tallest one of our group and bartender made it her place to convince us to sit at the bar so she could serve us while we were discussing our options. Her service was very mid. Seemed like she made up her own drinks off the menu and took forever to grab our waters even though there was maybe 2 or 3 other couples max. I did ask if the burgers came with fries since it wasn't listed on the menu and she said yes. I ordered the bbq bacon burger which is the same height of the pictures so I was very excited at first. The fries were truffle fries which was not explained and tasted over bearing to the point where we couldn't eat them. We did ask if it was truffle butter or fried in truffle oil to which the bartender had to ask about. She let us know it was truffle oil and they were making plain ones for us. The fried onions were very seasoned but super oily and my burger was medium not by preference. If I do come back I would get just the burger hold the tough bacon and mountain of fried onions.

This place knows how to make your taste buds do the happy dance. We didn't have to wait long for our food, which was a blessing because I was *hangry*. When the food came out, it was hot, fresh, and basically screamed, "Eat me now!" My son went for the mushroom Swiss burger, which he devoured like he hadn't eaten in weeks. I opted for the classic cheeseburger with fries -- simple, juicy, and absolutely perfect. Oh, and as if one meal wasn't enough, my son also ordered a chicken sandwich. He declared it "the best ever," which is saying something because this kid is a chicken sandwich connoisseur. The television entertainment was the Cartoon Network, which made me know this was a special place. Preston's, you've earned a special place in our hearts (and stomachs). The fries were pretty ordinary, but crisp and hot. The standout was the biscuits that I ordered to see what they were like. The were unique and very good. They were just a little sweet. Good texture /mouth feel. I wonder if the biscuits would make a good burger bun... maybe too sweet? The place was very clean and inviting. The qr code ordering was handy, but a bit impersonal. The server was nice and did offer to take my order personally. Not sure if I'll come back on my own initiative (not close to my house). But if a friend said let's have lunch there I'd be happy to return.

The beauty of a Saturday afternoon is there were sports on and TVs hanging on the walls. That made the wait easy. Boy do they know their stuff bc it was pretty much one hour to the minute when they called our name and escorted us to our table. We sat in a booth and took in on the collection of various items around the bar that have been gathered through the years and had some laughs at some of it. It was almost like a fun game of eye spy! They came to take our drink order and by the time they returned we were ready to order. We chatted for a bit and our food came out in what seemed to be a good time. I ordered the Patty Melt with onion straws. My husband got the Thurman Burger. We were surprised by its size when they came carrying it out to our table. Believe it or not he ate every single bite. Said it was delicious. Mine was equally as delicious. Maybe not quite as big but that was fine by me. I actually quite enjoyed that they served the 1000 island on the side. It made it way easier to eat. The cheese was nice and gooey. Just perfect. The onion straws were good too. I shared those with my husband. They were actually just as good on their own as they were dipped in any kind of sauce. That's big coming from me bc I love dipping! We got a box for our leftovers and headed out happy with a great first time experience here.

Arrived approximately 3:30pm - restaurant basically empty (maybe 5 tables total occupied). Went to check in for 2 and the host said he had reservations at 5. Huh? So I asked do you mean you can't seat us until 5? And he said no, that we need to leave by then because other people are coming. I thought that was very weird and unprofessional. I've never had an experience like that before. It's a basic sit down place, why would you think we'd linger for more than an hour and a half? Whatever, weird feeling, but we were seated. Seated in the walkway. Not like in a path but literally blocking the walkway where you step down. Why do I say this? Because people walking by kept banging into me. Not their fault. Why is there a table there? And why were we seated there when at least 80% of the restaurant was empty???? Ok whatever. Ordered food including their signature made in-house tots. Waitress comes back and says they were slammed in the morning and they're out of tots. (Man I feel bad for the people coming at 5. LOL) whatever except the people at the next table appeared to be served tots. Food was tasteless. The Mac and cheese had a weird texture like the roux wasn't cooked properly. My patty melt was mostly bread as the patty was too small for the bread. My husband had the signature chimi burger and it completely lacked any chimichurri flavor. Like at all. We were out by 4ish (plenty of time for them to prepare for their expected onslaught) and needless to say I've unbookmarked this place from my yelp. Maybe we'll try the Mexican place across the street next time. ‍
