Straight-forward. No nonsense. Our family of four with two young children dined in on a Monday at 5 pm. We had a late afternoon snack so we were not particularly hungry. We shared the fried mushrooms, basket of fries, Johnnie's burger, and Falter's bologna sandwich. I am a huge fan of the bologna sandwich. It was comforting and gratifying but probably not the best for my blood pressure. The server was very friendly and engaging. He made recommendations and offered to split all of the sandwiches because he knew we were sharing. Next time I visit, I am going to ensure I do not eat anything beforehand so I can enjoy the whole bologna sandwich or try a larger variety. read more

Superbly made smash-burger and great outside dining. Service was slow for a noon time crowd. Server said it's always packed at lunch time, if this is normal why are they so slow? It's the kitchen staff who slowed down, not enough prep prior(?). If you go, remember to give them plenty of time to cook your meals. read more

I had no idea that this place even existed until after hiking at Quarry Trail metro park and I did a google search to find a brunch spot. Jokes on me- no breakfast here, but we did have a delicious Bloody Mary that was an incredible price! Ended up getting nachos with no meat and my friend got a bologna sandwich and tator tots. Food was good for a good price. Service was very slow, but it was busy. Charming little spot, easy to see why it's been around awhile and why their regulars love it. read more

I haven't even tried the food yet I've been sitting here for 35 minutes on the patio waiting. At least the server just brought some mustard and ketchup I guess that's a sign my food may be on the way. Sure would be nice to get some ice for this tea. The outside is very nice. Service non existent. I was told the kitchen is serving the inside and out. There are only 3 tables full and 4 inside. Don't waste your time here. read more

Great burgers, but they were so busy we were served by the bartender, while the waitress twittered about serving both inside and outside customers. She finally came to handle our bills. Not impolite, just needs another person to cover the onslaught of customers. read more

I've been here many times and I'm always looking for a change in this place. They started building tons of new apartments and condos and I think Johnnie's needs to think about expanding in order to accommodate the nest by growth. I ordered the burger and fries, it never disappoints. Plus a try of whiskey. read more

This place has potential, great atmosphere. However tonight was the worst service I have ever experienced. The ginger girl server had such an attitude with the whole table from the start. Brought our food after it was sitting out for 15 minutes. I will never be back, she is simply unbearable. read more

The entrance to this place is a bit confusing, coming from the parking lot into what looks like a side door, but I knew we were going to have fun when the music playing was "Boogie Shoes." We opted for the patio, but beware! Smoking is allowed. Anytime I see fried bologna on the menu, that is a must order for me. This bologna is from Falter's Fine Meats, a long-standing, family owned meat processing company based in Columbus, Ohio. My husband ordered a hotdog and fries. As we waited for our order, we enjoyed watching the chickens play in the yard across the street. The food was classic tavern fare, and now that I've since read the reviews about their hamburgers, I'm eager to come back to try them. We will be back. read more

Came here with my husband on a Friday night. It was PACKED! We snagged the last table but there were many people standing near the bar as well. We ordered our food and it arrived very quickly. We both got the super burger and we split a basket of fries. Random thing I loved was that the condiments had a small pair of scissors on the table to help open them! As someone who has long nails this was great and so smart. The music was a bit loud which made everyone have to speak louder to be heard. It would have been fine but with the loud music, people shouting over one another, and the train tracks right next to the building, it was a bit too loud for me. There was a friend group catching up at the bar but their conversation was becoming a bit inappropriate and the entire room could hear the explicit details of their conversation. All in all, I look forward to eating those delicious burgers again! But unless I'm there when it's less busy I might just order ahead and pick up instead read more

Legendary Local favorite: Huge new patio, expanded menu, best burger in Cbus!! $10 burger!

Been wanting to try this place for a while. We have been told they are the best burgers around. I will say. They didn't disappoint. It's a small place. More seats that I expected. We sat at the bar. As you do at a place like that. To get the full experience. The service was great. The burgers were on point. The drinks were stiff and a good price. Tons of alcohol to choose from. We will definitely go back next time we are craving burgers. read more

Super cute little dive bar. Huge, wonderful patio that we unfortunately couldn't enjoy bc it was raining. Bartender was very attentive and nice. We ordered cheese curds, a burger, and the chicken tenders. The cheese curds stole the show. The burger and tenders were normal and fine. We would come back for the cheese curds, service, and ambiance of a very cute dive bar. read more

First time coming here, thought it'd be a nice treat to relax and get a quick burger before another work day. Ordered two burgers and jalapeño poppers. It was a busy night and we were expecting to wait, but we ended up waiting 1.5hr because they forgot our order. Burgers were okay, but not good enough to wait an hour and a half. We finally flagged our waiter down and she didn't even know we were missing our food. I could've spoken out sooner, sure, but the waiter should've done her job better. It was weird seeing someone show up 45min after you got there, yet being served before you. Waiting for simple burgers weren't necessarily my biggest complaint, but it was how we didn't feel comped for their mistake. Needless to say first and last time. read more

The burgers are always great here. $10 gets you a delicious cheeseburger w lettuce, tomato, onions, pickles. Served on a toasted bun. The large order of perfectly crispy fries is enough to share. And they're soft and fluffy inside. The beer is ice cold, served with frosted mugs. They have outside seating now and have updated the inside a bit u set new ownership. No apparent air conditioning so beware if that's a concern. They open the doors for a breeze though. They were busy on a Friday at 5:30. But we were able to get an inside table. Service was fast and friendly. read more

Regular here! I love their burgers and usually I am not even a red meat eater but for them, I make an exception because it is just that good. There are honestly few burgers in Columbus that compare. Also a big fan of the fried mushrooms! The service is immediate because it is such a small establishment - shout out to Dom, he is the best! This place can get busy but usually during the week you have a good shot at getting a table without issue. Pricing is fair, parking is ample, beer is cold and service is great! read more

Good burgers and fast great service. I stopped in today with a couple friends who recommended this place and was pleasantly surprised with the food and service. From the outside this place is an unassuming little local bar, but when you go inside, this place has a cool, old "throwback " kinda vibe where you just feel comfortable being here. If you're looking for a cozy little bar with good food, I highly recommended you check this place out. read more

All I can say is WOW! Arguably the BEST burger spot you will find in Columbus. The burger is also only $10. Full bar service with more great prices. Got 3 beers for $7. Great burgers and beef sandwiches. Fries and onion rings also. Friendly atmosphere and clientele.

OK OK OK...I get it! Johnnie's is a restaurant, right? They usually are good at one thing, and then falls off the cliff on another. Johnnie's has a Great Vibe...a Service Personality...and a Solid Food Quality with an Efficient Food Turnaround. They have No cliffs to fall off...except for the close by Marble Cliffs (yes, a joke). Their burger is Not a smash burger. It's an honest-to-goodness thick burger cooked exactly how you order it. Their Onion Rings are to be worshipped, but we ate them anyway. If you're thinking of trying a New Place, with a Seasoned Vibe, that is Clean and definitely Remarkable to Friends, et al, please include Johnnie's on your To Go To List. read more

Neighborhood joints, dive bars call them what you wish, but I love exploring them. Johnny's Tavern was such an outing. We went on a Wednesday as that is the only day they have Joey's Coneys. They are known for their burgers and roast beef, but there are also fish baskets. I had two coneys and a side of onion rings. My wife did a burger with fries. The Conies were good, and the sauce was delicious. The hamburger in the sauce was not in big chunks, and the seasoning was not overpowering. The onion ring was crispy. The burger was deluxe, cooked medium well as requested, and a decent size. Although they are known for their burgers, and the burger was good, it was not spectacular. Our server was attentive and outgoing, which is a plus for us. It was a nice outing to a Dive Bar that I had not been to. read more

Sadly the food quality keeps going the wrong direction, I'm guessing the new owners are trying to cut cost. Whatever the reason is the quality and portion size sucks, they used to use fresh cooked thick bacon on their burgers, not anymore. And now the buns have shrank. this keeps up and you can rename the Johnnie Burger the Johnnie Slider. read more

Amazing burgers and awesome onion rings. The chicken tenders are delicious and so is the grilled cheese! Love everything here!

After walking the new Quarry Trails Metropark, we were hungry & excited that we were near Johnnie's Tavern. We were last there several years ago and recalled the cheeseburger as being the best we've ever had. Maybe we built it up too much in our minds. It wasn't the best ever. It's a good burger ($9). You choose the type of cheese. I had cheddar; my husband & stepson had pepper jack. We all opted for the included toppings: lettuce, tomato, onion & pickle. They have mayo, ketchup & mustard at the table. We also ordered baskets of onion rings ($7) and tots ($5) to share. The sides were good. I also had an Elvis Juice - on tap - that cost less than $5. Super reasonable! Everything was good & I'll return if in the neighborhood, but won't have the mental buildup for the burger. Other reviews already mention the location/details. It's a small dive bar / tavern. It looks like they reupholstered the booths and chairs since we were there last. It's clean and the've added plexi barriers between the booths. My husband noted that he likes that they have the virtual jukebox & that they should invest in the furnace (it was chilly in there). read more

Great local bar with fantastic old fashioned burgers! Ice cold beer and friendly staff.

I'll tell you what, I would have driven past this place 2,445 times before actually stopping to eat here. The sign is dim and there isn't the standard bar/tavern lights you would see on other buildings. It definitely added to the mystery surrounding the excellent reviews that I found on this handy Yelp app. Boy o Boy, you need to come see the size of the burgers here that were coming out of the kitchen! All of the prices on their menu were also super reasonable! It's Wednesday and they have a Coney Dog special for $2.50 a dog fully loaded. I ended up getting two big dogs and a side of tater tots for $7! You can't beat that at all and their coney sauce was super flavorful! I wish I had room for one of their giant burgers so I will definitely be back to try one. Great job Johnnie's! read more

My GF wanted to try this place b/c she's heard it's got "the best cheeseburgers in Columbus." I don't know if they're the best, but they are VERY good! I had onion rings w/it, & she had fries. 2 beers with it & it was $30+. A little pricey, but the food was excellent. This looks like a roadhouse from the outside & it's not far from it. But it's quiet, good food, & cold beer. Good combo. read more
