Came here with my husband on a Friday night. It was PACKED! We snagged the last table but there were many people standing near the bar as well. We ordered our food and it arrived very quickly. We both got the super burger and we split a basket of fries. Random thing I loved was that the condiments had a small pair of scissors on the table to help open them! As someone who has long nails this was great and so smart. The music was a bit loud which made everyone have to speak louder to be heard. It would have been fine but with the loud music, people shouting over one another, and the train tracks right next to the building, it was a bit too loud for me. There was a friend group catching up at the bar but their conversation was becoming a bit inappropriate and the entire room could hear the explicit details of their conversation. The entrance to this place is a bit confusing, coming from the parking lot into what looks like a side door, but I knew we were going to have fun when the music playing was "Boogie Shoes." We opted for the patio, but beware! Smoking is allowed. Anytime I see fried bologna on the menu, that is a must order for me. This bologna is from Falter's Fine Meats, a long-standing, family owned meat processing company based in Columbus, Ohio. My husband ordered a hotdog and fries. As we waited for our order, we enjoyed watching the chickens play in the yard across the street. Super cute little dive bar. Huge, wonderful patio that we unfortunately couldn't enjoy bc it was raining. Bartender was very attentive and nice. We ordered cheese curds, a burger, and the chicken tenders. The cheese curds stole the show. The burger and tenders were normal and fine. First time coming here, thought it'd be a nice treat to relax and get a quick burger before another work day. Ordered two burgers and jalapeño poppers. It was a busy night and we were expecting to wait, but we ended up waiting 1.5hr because they forgot our order. Burgers were okay, but not good enough to wait an hour and a half. We finally flagged our waiter down and she didn't even know we were missing our food. I could've spoken out sooner, sure, but the waiter should've done her job better. It was weird seeing someone show up 45min after you got there, yet being served before you. Waiting for simple burgers weren't necessarily my biggest complaint, but it was how we didn't feel comped for their mistake. Needless to say first and last time. read more

The burgers are always great here. $10 gets you a delicious cheeseburger w lettuce, tomato, onions, pickles. Served on a toasted bun. The large order of perfectly crispy fries is enough to share. And they're soft and fluffy inside. The beer is ice cold, served with frosted mugs. They have outside seating now and have updated the inside a bit u set new ownership. Regular here! I love their burgers and usually I am not even a red meat eater but for them, I make an exception because it is just that good. There are honestly few burgers in Columbus that compare. Also a big fan of the fried mushrooms! The service is immediate because it is such a small establishment - shout out to Dom, he is the best! This place can get busy but usually during the week you have a good shot at getting a table without issue. Pricing is fair, parking is ample, beer is cold and service is great! read more

Haven't been here for a few years and decided to go back with friends for a burger. Seating was comfortable and our server was nice. If you are looking for a delicious burger definitely give them a try. Burger was $9 and coleslaw was $2. I ordered the burger with pepper jack cheese and, lettuce, tomatoes, red onions and pickles and a side of coleslaw. The meal was very satisfying and tasty. Johnnie's has a Great Vibe...a Service Personality...and a Solid Food Quality with an Efficient Food Turnaround. They have No cliffs to fall off...except for the close by Marble Cliffs (yes, a joke). Their burger is Not a smash burger. It's an honest-to-goodness thick burger cooked exactly how you order it. Their Onion Rings are to be worshipped, but we ate them anyway. They are known for their burgers and roast beef, but there are also fish baskets. I had two coneys and a side of onion rings. My wife did a burger with fries. The Conies were good, and the sauce was delicious. The hamburger in the sauce was not in big chunks, and the seasoning was not overpowering. The onion ring was crispy. The burger was deluxe, cooked medium well as requested, and a decent size. Although they are known for their burgers, and the burger was good, it was not spectacular. Sadly the food quality keeps going the wrong direction, I'm guessing the new owners are trying to cut cost. Whatever the reason is the quality and portion size sucks, they used to use fresh cooked thick bacon on their burgers, not anymore. After walking the new Quarry Trails Metropark, we were hungry & excited that we were near Johnnie's Tavern. We were last there several years ago and recalled the cheeseburger as being the best we've ever had. Maybe we built it up too much in our minds. It wasn't the best ever. It's a good burger ($9). You choose the type of cheese. I had cheddar; my husband & stepson had pepper jack. We all opted for the included toppings: lettuce, tomato, onion & pickle. They have mayo, ketchup & mustard at the table. We also ordered baskets of onion rings ($7) and tots ($5) to share. The sides were good. I also had an Elvis Juice - on tap - that cost less than $5. Super reasonable! Everything was good & I'll return if in the neighborhood, but won't have the mental buildup for the burger. Other reviews already mention the location/details. It's a small dive bar / tavern. It looks like they reupholstered the booths and chairs since we were there last. It's clean and the've added plexi barriers between the booths. I'll tell you what, I would have driven past this place 2,445 times before actually stopping to eat here. The sign is dim and there isn't the standard bar/tavern lights you would see on other buildings. It definitely added to the mystery surrounding the excellent reviews that I found on this handy Yelp app. Boy o Boy, you need to come see the size of the burgers here that were coming out of the kitchen! All of the prices on their menu were also super reasonable! It's Wednesday and they have a Coney Dog special for $2.50 a dog fully loaded. I ended up getting two big dogs and a side of tater tots for $7! You can't beat that at all and their coney sauce was super flavorful! Gave this bar a try recently. Johnnie's is a cozy, small joint in an old house, an old school neighborhood bar to a fault. I don't think the bar has air conditioning, but with the doors open a breeze blew through fairly well. The bathrooms look like they were recently renovated, though they are quite small. There is a patio sandwiched between the front of the building and Trabue Road; not the most scenic, but it's a decent little outdoor space if you want some fresh air or a smoke. Bartenders were attentive and service was pretty quick. As for the often-hyped burger... it was good, and cheap, but it wasn't really anything special. There are better burgers in town, but if you're out this way and want a drink and some grub, Johnnie's is worth a look. read more
