Beer list at The Social (4/29/13)
    Liz G.

Is it Kosher to write a review of a place while actually there? Well, either way, I'm here, and I can at least vouch that the Wi-Fi is working nicely (albeit with a 2-hour login period). The Social offers your typical coffeeshop fare along with beer, wine, and a "pub menu." So far I have been focusing on caffeination, which has been a little pricey but pretty comparable to the average chain coffee shop, maybe slightly nicer if you assume the products are slightly higher-grade. Tipping isn't allowed, though, so when you factor that in, the prices are more reasonable. They have a nice selection of "fancy" coffee drinks and iced beverages, which should be nice for the summer. On the booze end of things, the value is much more obvious. I posted a picture of their beer menu, and you can currently get a glass of some nice local beers for as low as $3. They also offer beer flights (4 for $5). They have a number of growlers to fill up if you want to take some beer home. There are a few red and white wine options (also reasonably priced) and a dessert and sparkling wine option. I have not tried out the food, but the tables have a small menu on them that offers burgers, hot dogs, fries, and salads. I had been wondering if they do breakfast, and to my delight, the menu has a number of breakfast offerings. They are offering $2 hot dogs on Mondays and wing specials on Wednesdays (both specials from 4-7pm). The obvious extension of this is that the prepared-food section of Whole Foods is right through a doorway, so you can grab your black quinoa salad or garlicky kale and bring it over to The Social while your enjoy your beverage of choice. Hipster. The decor here is casual but fun. There is a fireplace in the middle of the room, which will be lovely in the winter. They have a couple of hi-top tables near the entrance to Whole Foods proper, and a bunch of tables that can accomodate 4-8 people otherwise. There are several seats at the bar. There is a bathroom in here, too, for those who care about such things. (You should.) I have not spied an electrical outlet yet, but I see one person's cord attached to their laptop, so the elusive outlet must be somewhere. I hope my limited review has helped you feel out this new spot, and I'll update this review after I've finished working and have had the chance to try out other, err, options besides coffee and tea. I hope some other Yelpers will come out and weigh in so that I'm not the only weirdo in here snapping pictures of The Social.

Brunch at The Social featuring Fiesta Hash and mimosa flights!
    Alicia R.

Real talk. I'm a little tipsy, but that's what happens when you order the mimosa flight ($8) at The Social. We toasted with four flavors: pear, guava, mango, and the classic OJ. All were light and refreshing (my favorite was mango), and our meals were stellar. Two of us devoured the Fiesta Hash (potatoes, salsa, sour cream, cheese, guacamole, and a fried egg ($9), and our friend was impressed by her Farm Breakfast ($5), a huge plate of eggs, toast, hash browns, and bacon. Word on the street is that there are also ESPRESSO FLIGHTS Monday through Thursday for $6. I will definitely be back!

It may be nice going to cool bars or breweries but one times you just want to knock a few back. The happy hour is cheap but it's never expensive any time. It gets a good amount of regulars. It's not like the hipster places where the tourists and wannabes come to be seen. This is probably the cheapest bar between Clintonville and Worthington. It's about $10 for a few rounds. When you feel like getting hammered why go and shell out money on craft brew or cocktails when you just want it to get to your stomach. It's easy to get drunk and easy on your wallet. The bathrooms aren't as bad as they may be. It looks like they get cleaned occasionally. The karaoke and trivia nights are classic times. I sometimes just want to hurry to get fucked up so I stumble into Brew-Stirs. It's a don't you judge me kind of place. The worst thing is the throbbing in your head when you rise up.

The apps are 1/2 off Tuesday so we stuck with those (and likely would've been better off if we didn't) which leads me to... The bad- every single appetizer!! we started with the sampler platter, and all three (mac n cheese bites, fried ravioli, and buffalo shrimp) most definitely came out of a freezer bag. And not even high quality frozen apps, the shrimp were the size of salad shrimp. We got the nachos next in hope things would turn around if we moved away from the fried items but I have to say, these were barely better. I would avoid appetizers at all costs at this place. The service was pretty slow too but I know that's standard for a college bar so nothing unexpected there.

I had their Bone-In Wings with Sweet Chili & the delicious Onion Rings and I dipped them both into BBQ sauce. They had history of previous Ohio State campus bars and hangouts. I was very happy with the wings and found the wings whether bone-in or boneless are half off on Wednesdays. I found from Kaia that current Ohio State student athletes get discounts from The O on Lane. I will be going back there again soon and will try their tavern style pizzas too.
