Great little theater/drafthouse! Classic style old theater, eclectically decorated! Awesome bar in the lobby. Seating is comfort with reclining seats, quite a selection of draft beers! We didn't eat there, but everything smelled great around us. We went to watch the Fly Fishing Film Festival, the sound system was great as well as the films quality. I will definitely go back to see movies there again. There isn't a parking lot, so you may have to park on a side street and walk a little, we parked about a block away. read more

I don't think I'm alone in feeling that Studio 35 is just as much a local watering hole as it is a movie theater. The first thing they ask you when you go in is some variation of "Are you seeing a movie with us or just hanging out?" At any given time, more than half the patrons in the bar seem to be there more for drinks and conversation than whatever happens to be playing that night. For that reason, whatever challenges the cinema world may face in the future, I believe Studio 35 will weather them all--so long as people still like a variety of beers, whiskeys, and cheap pizza. Let's start there. "Drafthouse" isn't in the name for nothing; the folks running the place do a great job of curating a rotating selection of tap handles sourced from all over the place. They also maintain an excellent liquor list, and were allegedly the first theater in the nation to obtain a license to sell spirits. Prices aren't quite dive-levels of through the floor cheap, but still affordable even when compared with non-theater bars with similar selections. But the thing I'm trying to tell more people about is the in-house pizzeria, Fibonacci's, and their insane Monday deal: $12 for any specialty, $10 to build your own at the time of writing. Every Monday, dine-in or carryout. Which wouldn't be so impressive if it weren't for the more than passable quality of the pies themselves, and the assortment of toppings (which include a fair number of vegan options!). More about the theater itself: situated near the border of Clintonville and the Old North in a historic building dating back to the '30s, the place's signature sign and marquee turn the heads of any traveler turning down Indianola. Inside, the walls drip personality--the place is decorated like a movie-obsessed teenager's bedroom (but in a tasteful way). Red paint, wall-to-wall posters and paraphernalia, even a whole corner (shrine?) to El Duderino. It's all very on theme, and manages to be fun and unique without feeling cluttered. The main auditorium is a bit odd in that it slopes UP a bit as you near the front, but thanks to the seat design I've yet to have that be a problem, even in sold-out shows with filled seats (I'm on the taller side though, your mileage may vary). Some seats near the rear feature tables so you can have a true-dine in experience as well, though most people seem to opt to eat in the bar or in the extra seating/balcony upstairs before the show. The sound system was recently replaced and it sounds superb, and I've never had an issue with the picture quality in any showing I've attended. There is a second "recliner room" upstairs, but as someone who also enjoys having a home theater, I've yet to actually bring myself to pay to see something up there. If Studio 35 has one weakness, it's the necessary programming limitations that come with limited screens/seats and just one real auditorium. As one of just a handful of long-standing institutions within the Columbus independent cinema scene, there's a noticeable overlap between the clientele here and each of the others, but Studio 35 stands out the most in my mind as feeling in many ways the most casual, welcoming, and working-class (which is in no way derogatory; it should be a point of pride). A place like the Gateway Film Center is an art gallery, but Studio 35 is where the artists actually hang out. Living just two miles away, it's firmly lodged itself near the top of the list of places where I might be found any given evening (but especially Mondays). I feel that as Clintonville and surrounding areas continue to blossom, Indianola may become something of a second High Street-- which will only make Studio 35 all the more popular. And I'm glad, because I want to continue coming here for as long as I live in Columbus. This was my first time visiting so watch Barbie! First off, this place is so impressive! The entire theater was decorated in pink from floor to ceiling. We purchased tickets online, which was super affordable at only $10/ticket. As you walk in, there are drink and food menus and you order at the bar. All food items can be taken into the theater, including pizza! They do have some tables at the back of the theater to enjoy at, these do fill up fast so get there early! It takes about 20 minutes from ordering to the time your pizza is ready. We tried the hot swarm, which was fantastic and super spicy so beware!! They also had Barbie themed cocktails, I tried the sparkling pink, which was sweet and strong. I will definitely be returning to Studio 35 soon! read more

Love Studio 35 - y'all come here so they can stay in business doing what they do! it's a great little independent theater on Indianola Ave in Clintonville. Street parking, so it is what it is. They only have a couple of movie options at a time, making it super laid back. Just check if what you want is showing before you make the drive. You can indeed purchase tickets in advance, but I haven't needed to. We usually come a little early to order pizza and end up finishing before the movie starts, but they do have some bar/tables inside if you want to dine during the movie. No service in the theater, so plan to run out to pick up your snacks from the bar. They have a pretty awesome selection of beer and cocktails, and I counted at least 5 flavor shakers by the popcorn machine. They also offer fun events - themed beer tastings, community productions, etc. and I'm pretty sure this is the go-to location for Rocky Horror if you need to catch that. I went to see Barbie here, because they have the WHOLE place decked out, with multiple places for photos, including a Barbie box, and themed cocktails. Yikes, haven't reviewed this yet, which means it's been 15-20 years since I've been. I came often in the '80s and '90s, apparently not much after that. It's an old school theater, fairly small, but updated. Still has the old feel, but now with adult beverages and pizza. We came for the summer kid movies. Got there when they opened, got our snacks, sat where we wanted. More folks came before showtime, but it wasn't packed on a Wednesday morning. Easy street parking, at an off time. K got candy and Sprite. I went for popcorn and beer. After all, not driving for a couple of hours. They have a great beer selection, and pizza in the evenings but didn't look to be going yet. Fresh fresh fresh popcorn. Plenty of candy options. Some rows have a table/shelf in front of them. Comfy seats, great sound, great picture. And great staff, super friendly and helpful, and patient with kids and frazzled parents. They show a bunch of different movies, first run and classics. Prices are reasonable. Super good for the kid shows- they get in free and adults are 5 bucks. Definitely won't wait decades before the next visit. What an amazing place. Where you can see new and old school favorites. We went to see the classic Cher movie Moonstruck and it was a sold out show. They had to turn people away. We stayed afterwards to enjoy pizza from Fibonacci's. It was outstanding. We had the Hot Swarm! which is House red sauce, House Cheese, Ezzo cup & char pepperoni, ricotta, pepper flake, Triple Hex hot honey and the Fig-a-ma-jig which is Garlic EVOO base, house cheese, goat cheese, prosciutto, organic Smyrna figs, organic arugula, fig glaze. We saw 28 Years Later at Studio 35 last night. We were excited for the movie and usually love going to this theater. The crowd was really obnoxious this night. The same people were up and down multiple times during the movie. We probably had to get up 8 times to let people in and out. A couple of people got up within minutes of the movie starting. I absolutely love Studio 35! This is by far the coolest, chillest, best movie theater in the city. The vibes are immaculate, it feels like an old school theater and everything about it is just so cozy. I actually have yet to see a movie here, but I've come multiple times just to meet up with friends and have a few drinks and a bite to eat. They have fantastic prices and a great menu. For example, $5 Tito's on happy hour is awesome and hard to find around the city, and their pours are generous to boot. Their custom cocktails are also fantastic; the last time I was there I had some kind of brandy-based mule. I don't think I've ever even had brandy before, but it was amazing and so delicious! One absolute must at Studio 35 is the pizza. It's so random that a movie theater would have amazing pizza, but to be honest this is some of the best pizza I've had in Columbus! The crust is delightful, the perfect combination of chewy and crispy. Ugh I can't wait to come back again soon literally just for the pizza alone. Anyway, this place totally rocks. I love Studio 35! I have been coming here since I was a kid. Mostly for Rocky Horror Picture Show productions with the fishnet mafia. So many memories and too much fun! When I was a kid, there was just an entry way, regular movie snacks, and then the theatre. Now it has a full bar and restaurant in the front section and it's absolutely awesome. This year I have visited twice-- once for the Barbie movie premier and again to see Stop Making Sense, the Talking Heads concert movie. For Barbie the place was absolutely DECKED OUT. It was the full pink experience. Barbie box, pink streamers, themed cocktails, etc. It was definitely the full experience and easily could have rivaled any of the best opening showings of the movie anywhere in the country. Both times this year I ordered pizza and a cocktail and was not disappointed. The old fashioneds and manhattans are epic. I also love that the back row has tables-- perfect for bringing a pizza and beverage into the movie and enjoying them like you're in your own home. I love Studio 35. It's just *the* neighborhood theater, and I find myself coming down to it and skipping the closer chains just to support them. The staff is usually friendly, sometimes gruff, sometimes smartasses, but I'd say that's all part of its charm. I come here solo, often, just to grab a seat and a drink, and relax - and they're not stuffy, it's sometimes crazy busy, and the events they do are always fun and different - the kind of experiences you want from a theatre, showcasing directors or running with a theme! Now - they KEEP REMODELING! Yeah, I'm old enough to remember when you could sit out and drink and have a window into the theatre. Now they've got upstairs, open windows, and reclining seats (upstairs). The one - only complaint - is the sound upstairs suffers a little - it can't quite handle low bass without rattling (I think from the wall sconce? I don't know) - but as a solo movie goer who just likes to lose himself in a film, it's a minor annoyance I can deal with to both support the local theatre! read more

Studio 35 is the best theater in Columbus. It has good movies playing and not blockbuster crap. This is the place in the city for cinema snobs. It also serves up beer. What more could a theater goer want? It's on a coming back stretch of Indianola Avenue. Before it was kind of fading. The Clintonville area put a lot of work into this. It's a small theater that only plays a couple of movies, so it's not like going to Cinemark. They also play only good movies. Sometimes they play some classics. They often show recently released movies that are critical favorites. This is where you can find a theater snob hanging in Columbus. It's like an old nickelodeon in the early theater days. I'm old enough to have had the experience in smaller theaters. It's nice to have that nostalgia back. But. Three different pizzas, matter of fact. Even a pickle pizza, which I never thought to try before. We watched Thor, Love and Thunder. Oh, and they offer pint glasses for the main showing for $5. My friends and I attended the first night of the Columbus Film Festival, which just so happened to be taking place here, at Studio 35. We arrived around 8PM and easily found street parking available out front. We were immediately greeted by the staff who were happy to get us drinks and snacks for the show. It was only $8 and you could stay for a couple hours. It was priced really reasonably. We decided to share a bottle of wine and a medium popcorn with M&M's sprinkled on top! We were all mind blown by this discovery and moving forward I will just have to insist on adding these chocolatey nibbles to my popped corn. The theatre itself is fairly outdated (yes, it's over 80 years old!), but it definitely gives it some character. It easily gives off a casual, hipster vibe. They even have a few pinball machines in the back corner. There is only one theatre and therefore only one showing at a time, but it's totally nostalgic. It was great to see them supporting local events and I'm excited to go back for a relaxing night with my friends. I also enjoyed seeing that they had a food menu. Feel free to come hungry. read more

I really had no intention of seeing Avengers, The Age of Ultron and while the movie pretty much sucked, I found myself really liking this old yet cool movie theater / tavern. Now the fact that this place wasn't razed to the ground and turned into a parking lot years ago gives credence to the idea that sometimes miracles do happen and I'm glad it's still here. So that being said, I have to give kudos to Pat E. for reintroducing me to this place. Now the tavern part is comfortable in a friendly "Cheers" kind of way. The bartenders are all really nice and helpful when you are trying to decide which of their 40 brews you want to try. They're quick to get you samples of any beer on tap so points for that. If you work up an appetite or you just bring one with you, they have pizza, subs and salads that they will order for you from Pizza Primo, which is a few doors down from them. Feel like eating or drinking while you watch the movie? Go ahead and take that pie or sub in with you. There's a place for your food and drinks right in front of your seat. Now mind you, there aren't any servers in the theater. This means 2 things, there's no constant interruptions of people placing orders and it also means that if you want something, you need to get your butt out of your seat and get it yourself. It's a movie tavern, not a restaurant and I'm OK with that. This place has a ton of 5 star reviews and you'll understand why when you go there too. read more

I was waiting for the right time to write a review of one of my top 3 places in Columbus, after all I have received the official YELP "DUCHESS" status for checking in here. (Please, no bowing necessary) Honestly, I think I have been coming here since before YELP was even a concept. I will try to make this review simple, yet specific and not repeat what others have said about this great neighborhood spot. DRINKS - yep big full service bar when you first walk inside. You can order cocktails, wine, coffee, coke, etc. But the main feature is THE BEER. It took sometime, but I converted to beer drinking after coming here, it would be a shame not to. I always find it aggravating when I finally choose one of their many rotating options, only to find that they "ran out". Dam. Back to the menu, which can be found on their FACEBOOK page. They are really good about letting you sample the beers. They offer 16 oz. and 24 oz. sizes. Happy hour 4-6 p.m. Mon - Fri. 1/2 off beer. My experience is they tend to be strict on the time. FOOD- Pizza, chicken wings, popcorn, subs, nachos are some of the offerings. Most items are from the pizza shop nearby. Wait time averages 30 minutes. I have seen people bring their own grub. Just saying. Not sure if it is allowed or not. MOVIE THEATER - great digital/dolby sound system. Sometimes, it feels like the sound is coming from just a few seats over. When there is less of a crowd, it can feel chilly inside the studio. Alcohol, or Hot coffee, always helps with heating things up. As there is only one screen, movies rotate pretty quick. So if something is showing you want to see THERE, don't put it off. Oh, and WEDNESDAY is half price movie night. Two thumbs up. EVENTS - the studio always features something to see other than the movies on the big screen, whether it is a sporting event, political debate or awards show FREE. I often times go see OSU games here. Generally it is crowded during these times. For sure during any play-offs like this year!!!! You should arrive at least 1.5 hours early to get a seat for major events. People often "save" multiple seats and that can be annoying if one of them is not for you. I have seen people sitting on floors, on stage steps, etc. to be there for THE game. Don't mess with BUCKEYE NATION. Then there is the Dude-a-thon (sells out fast), Rocky Horror picture show and beer tastings all being regular features. On several occasions I have come to watch the Oscars where they hand out score sheets and give prizes for the correctly picking out the winners. Just an overall good time. IN GENERAL - When there is an expected big crowd for a paying event, there will be someone sitting in "the window booth" , otherwise you go inside and pay at the bar for your movie. Only Good manners if you dump your trash in the receptacles by the entry and exit doors of the movie, and bring your glasses back to the bar. Kids are welcome with Adults. Cheers! read more
