Nice location near the fort, friendly service, and lots of fantastic flavors. It was a hot day and my pop was extremely well frozen, but I could not taste much of the flavor. At $5 it is not working for me, but it IS a very cold treat on a very hot day. read more

The Hyppo is a hip and happenin' spot! Gourmet iced goods in the form of popsicles in various flavor combos from the tame key lime or peach Arnold Palmer to the unusual blueberry cinnamon or yellow watermelon jalapeno, and everything in between. They also offer spicy (chipotle peach), and alcoholic flavors (Riesling!), along with seasonal specials (no Mexican hot chocolate yet!). Most are also dairy-free so your lactose intolerant or vegan friends can indulge, too! The line was long with indecision and regulars were happily making recommendations to those who asked. I'm more into savory than sweet, and the blackberry goat cheese pop hit the spot for me without either flavor overpowering the other. At $3.50 each, these are priced a bit higher than I'd expect, but the product is all natural with fresh fruits, herbs, and evaporated cane juice instead of artificial colors, flavors, and sweeteners! read more

Our wait for dinner was too long so we stopped by to get dessert before. Was not disappointed! I got the avocado coconut which was delicious. A sweet creamy flavor with a hint of avocado and coconut which go surprisingly well together! My family tried some of the other flavors too which were all good. I took off a star because I do think it is overpriced, but worth a try if you're visiting the are! read more

Stumbled across these gourmet popsicle shops while on a trip to St Augustine. My girlfriend being a big sweets person--me, not so much--we definitely had to make a stop. Went above and beyond our expectations. There were soo many options, some with diary, some with spice, and some with alcohol. I got the blueberry lavender lemonade and WOW so good! My hubby got the pineapple lime rum (21+) and the taste was phenomenal but if you're expecting to get a buzz off of it, don't get it lol the guy at the counter was so upbeat and asked if it was our first time to which he welcomed us, explained what each popsicle icon meant, etc. Expect pricing to be $4-$7 per popsicle. First time trying, will not be my last. What a concept. I am kind of over ice cream so tried Hyppo on a whim and sure am glad I did. No fuss, no muss, just some really enticing and interesting flavors to try. First time in, I opted for the Elvis, peanut butter, honey, banana and it tasted exactly like the sandwich I have made at home. It was tasty, cold, easy to eat, convenient, and a healthy snack on the light side. I need one of these in my neighborhood. read more

It's never too cold for ice cream! ....or ice pops for that matter! Especially since we visited during the chilly December weather. I really love the concept of this place and their countless flavor combinations. The employees were so nice and patient as we took awhile to decide on which flavor to get. The popsicles are really good and refreshing on a hot day. The prices vary depending on the kind of popsicle you buy. The kids strawberry was $3 and the larger ones range from $3.50-5.00. During covid I also really like that they require masks and one family in the shop at a time. read more

What a refreshing way to cool down from the hot and humid heat! Loved the wide variety of Popsicle flavors here, including: dragonfruit, pina colada, strawberry lemonade, key lime....so many more! I didn't find my popsicle to be overly sweet either. Flavors are really on point and using all natural ingredients. They also label their popsicles to show which ones include dairy (great for lactose intolerant/dairy allergic, or vegan folks), and which ones are spicy. Gourmet popsicles vs ice cream on a hot day?? Always gourmet popsicles! These popsicles were awesome! I want one of these places closer to home!! I had the Riesling pear popsicle and the flavor of pear was incredible, I honestly felt Like I was eating a really cold, refreshing pear! Not to be dramatic but they have the BEST POPSICLES EVER!! With a range of flavors, you will aways find something that you'd like! My issue when I go is there's TOO many flavors I want to try but it gives me even more of a reason to get more Hyppo when I visit St. Augustine! This shop is the smaller one, but as they are a minute walking distance apart, I love visiting both to see what other flavors they have. One visit and I was sold! I became a regular immediately! Great for hot days, this little shop offers so many flavors of frozen goodness. Some have dairy and some do not. But all of them are creative flavor combinations and high quality ingredients. The young people working, were so nice and friendly. They were always smiling and gracious. Of course we had questions and they did not mind the grilling of all things Hyppo. They offer a frequent visitor card that I almost filled before flying back to Chicago. They also ship to wherever you are. Nice! I was so excited to order home delivery. This great spot is perfect for locals and visitors alike. You'll never get bored because there are so many choices. Oh yes so good!! Gourmet Popsicle, handmade in terrific, wild and crazy flavors!!! What is there not to love! :) So many delicious flavors!!! Strawberry Basil, Pineapple Cilantro, Kiwi Colada, Hybiscuis Guava, the flavors sound crazy but they work so good! I tried the Datil Strawberry- the Datil pepper is local to St. Aug I believe and the combination of the spicy and sweet was so good, you initially just taste the sweet strawberry but a few seconds later the warm spicyness creeps over your mouth, I just loved it! Also the consistency of the Popsicle are great no nasty ice crystals in there! And I have had these Popsicle at events and places in Jax but the store had a lot more variety then the smaller portable trucks. read more

The champagne mango was delish, even the bf agreed. It was sweet and to my liking. The raspberry habanero was spicy and to the bf's liking. It wasn't my cup of tea kind of flavor, but the bf said it was spicy enough. The guy working this one particular day was super friendly and knowledgeable. He was engaging and provided us with a rewards stamp card. This small location has merchandise for sale and a few tables inside for chilling. Such a cool (ha) place to grab a little something to cool you off on a hot walk around town. They have sooo many gourmet popsicles for your choosing. The sweet young lady gave us some samples and recommendations. I chose her favorite which was Horchata and my husband picked the blueberry lavender lemonade. Both were so wonderful and refreshing!! I can't wait to go back and try more! They also had a card you can get stamped and for every 8 stamps you get a free popsicle! Yummy! We went back the next day to try more flavors, and this time I had the blackberry goat cheese and my hubs had the Arnold Palmer one. Both still amazing, I'd go back every day if I could! read more

Specialties

The Hyppo specializes in gourmet popsicles (paletas) which are made on site from fresh fruits and spices. Our pops are all natural frozen fruit on a stick with flavors ranging from funky to tangy to spicy to creamy to refreshing. Some of our flavors include Mango Habanero, Key Lime, Sour Ginger Plum, Blueberry Cinnamon, Champagne Mango, Blackberry Clove, and Strawberry Basil. All recipes have been developed in house (now over 60) and are based on seasonal availability- as such the menu is constantly changing. We also feature Intelligentsia Black Cat espresso, a direct trade coffee roasted to an ever-elusive goal of perfection by a group of coffee super-nerds - the result is fruity, creamy, and served in ceramic.

History

Established in 2010.

In the early months of 2010 Stephen DiMare was working in Montana for a winter at the Lodge at Big Sky and flew home to St. Augustine for a friend's wedding. On the flight he pitched his idea for a coffee shop to the (random) nice woman sitting next to him. She told him that what he needed in his coffee shop were ice pops, gourmet ice pops in the Mexican style. Stephen listened as she explained that paletas (Spanish for ice pops) could contain anything from cucumbers to fresh pineapple to jalapeños. With his interest piqued, Stephen returned to Montana to finish the winter ski season. He bought a set of cheap plastic ice pop molds and spent his evenings trying different combinations of flavors (as there is nothing to do in Montana after dark) and let the guests at the hotel try them and give feedback. When he came back to St. Augustine in April he had enough money saved to buy some semi-industrial ice pop molds and pay first and last months' rent on a little retail space in downtown S

We joked that the cheesecake restaurant was a front for another business because the employees seemed so busy, yet no one was there. We also had to laugh, almost the entire menu was sold out. Every person at our table had to order their 2nd or 3rd backup item, most of us completely changing our order. One in our group had the waiter come back twice to tell us they sold out of his item AS his meal was being made. While the cheesecakes were very good and there was potentially a nice selection, I think this location was a bit too odd to recommend to other diners unless you specifically just want cheesecake. If you do, just get it to go.

Also loved the fried chicken and hoecakes. Amazing. The drinks had a bit of variation between bartenders. They were all good though, so no complaints. It's a little bit outside of the "party" area of town but still walkable and completely worth it!! We ate at quite a few places and this was the stand out.
