Interesting, I grew up eating at The Hat on Lake Avenue in Pasadena, and always thought that was the original location. However in the interest of accuracy in my reviews (I'm a stickler for things like that. And good grammer also! ;) I checked and found out that the original The Hat was the Alhambra location. OMG!! This is the best pastrami sandwich place you could ever go to. No Lie the sandwich cost $10 but you get this huge pile of pastrami, the best pastrami! The sandwich is so big, hubby and I split it. We also order the small fries and a side of gravy which is my absolute favorite. In place of ketchup the beef gravy is tasty and filling. Hubby and I split a sandwich and an order of fries. They also have the best fresh-brewed iced tea. Okay drinks are $3 but you're allowed free refills so it's worth it. Nothing particularly wrong with this location but the Pastramis at all of the locations are overrated, "undermeated"and overpriced. He said the pastrami was thinly sliced which was still pretty good considering pastrami generally has thicker slices. Overall, pretty good for what you pay for, and I guess the pastrami dip comes with..no dip? I'm guessing the pastrami was probably dipped and I didn't see anyone else in the restaurant with dip when they were enjoying their pastrami sandwiches. So as I was reading the Pastrami thread, I had the craving to get some chili cheese fries with pastrami on top. The food is good and portions are huge. I usually can't finish the whole thing. I would eat 1/2 of it and save the rest for tomorrow. The Hat in Upland is open until 1AM during the weekdays which is nice. It's close to where I live, and open late nights. I was disappointed because you would think an establishment would have different sizes for there chilli fries after all these years. And the chilli fries were ok not amazing.
