Such a peaceful, welcoming vibe from the moment we walked in! My family and I stopped in for shaved ice, and I'm so glad we did. I ordered the matcha and a mini Jammy Sweet for our toddler, which she absolutely LOVED! My matcha was a little bland for my taste, so I asked to add butterscotch. Semi casual eatery that features very approachable hot pot. What I mean by that is that there are menu items designed per person and there are plenty of combinations of flavors that are already available to choose from. Sometimes when I go to hot pot, I'm not sure how much I should put into the broth of different ingredients, etc. and I find myself fumbling with some of the other items available to put into the broth. This place just makes it a lot easier for novices like me. Also, the portion is great relative to the price and most importantly the meal is delicious. It feels family owned and operated as well and the people here are very friendly. You can mix and match up to two different broths as well and if I remember correctly, I think did the miso and kimchi. It also comes with a couple sides. Hidden gem alert in Upland!! My husband and I tried hot pot for the very first time, and let me tell you... we were completely confused at first! Thankfully, the staff was beyond incredible. Wow, the best service I had in a while! The service was great from start to finish! Sweet fires had been on my list to try so for one of our date night we decided to come here! You pay and pick before you sit down. Sweet Fire's has a hot pot and drink combo! You pick your soup base, toppings, protein, and lastly a drink. I picked the macadamia milk tea and it was absolutely delicious. The pot is smaller than other pot I have been to but still packed with flavors. They give you a small bowl of rice but I believe you can ask for more. I would add noodles or additional meats for a bigger meal but the portion was just right for me. The only thing I didn't like was that the pot didn't stay hot the whole time and wish the veggies were cooked longer. I like my veggies not as hard. Upon being shown to my table, they serve appetizers consisting of a vegetable Bao Bun and a Chicken Dumpling with sesame and sweet chili sauce for dipping. The dumpling had a good crunch on the bottom but the top portion of the dumpling wrapper was really hard and waxy/plastic tasting. Hard to explain, but basically they tasted like they were probably fried hours ago and kept under a heat lamp. Score: 6/10 The bun was delicious. Not sure if it was vegetables inside, but nothing noticeable. The bun was so soft and fluffy, I really liked it. Score: 8/10 On the table they provide you with 3 sauces for dipping your hotpot ingredients into--which included a sour garlic sauce, a garlic chili sauce, and a soy vinegar sauce. Wish they offered green onions, but nevertheless, mixing all three together turned out to be a very flavorful sauce. I ordered the Mala and Satay combination broth with chicken and cabbage dumplings and choice of glass noodles. My protein was beef. My hotpot was so delicious. The combo of mala and satay broths were fire and I would order it again except with less mala broth and more satay broth, and also probably add veggies. Beware that mala broth is very spicy. I was picking out pieces of red chili for days cuz I didn't want to take the chance on biting down on one of them. The beef was superb. It was sliced thinly and it just melted in my mouth. Score: 9/10 I really enjoyed the glass noodles in the soup. I'm used to ramen noodles and this was a nice change. The texture of the noodles were perfectly chewy. Since I had so much broth leftover I ordered more glass noodles to go and they were also so nice to give me a full container of satay broth on the house to take home, so that I could try to cool down the spiciness a little. For my drink I chose the caramel cinnamon milk tea. The milk teas are made with nondairy creamer which was perfect for my lactose intolerant self. It was very tasty and perfectly sweet. A little honey boba added would have set it over the top. Score: 7.5/10 What I really like about this hotpot spot is that everything is customizable from the soup broth, the noodles, the meats and veggies. They have a Vegetable Hotpot for the vegetarians. I talked my family into going out for hot pot today, despite it being over 100 degrees because I haven't been feeling well and wanted something comforting. We were originally going to go to the new kbbq/hot pot place in Montclair but after I saw their prices I kept looking. I came across Sweet Fires and couldn't believe the price was so low (and it included a drink). The restaurant is clean and inviting and we were greeted by a very nice and patient young man who explained the ordering process to us and offered suggestions about the different broths. I opted for the satay broth with dumplings, glass noodles, and beef. The broth was just what I wanted, perfectly savory. There were quite a few vegetables underneath the noodles and beef, which was a nice surprise. It's not traditional hot pot in the sense that there are no burners at the table, they bring the pot out boiling hot and everything is already inside. I actually preferred this way to having to make it myself. They also provide unlimited rice with your meal and we were offered complimentary appetizers and a sample of shave ice. I opted for the unsweetened black tea but upgraded my soup with extra beef, which I was very happy with. My husband and daughter got their soups as is but upgraded their drinks to milk teas/boba. The service was also excellent. Everyone we encountered was friendly and helpful, the young lady who brought our food out even stuck her head out from the back to say thank you as we left. They could have easily let us leave and I still would have given them a 5 star rating but I found that small gesture so kind. A gentleman came around and checked in on us as well, I believe he may have been the owner. He told me about the poached egg in my soup and recommended I have it over the rice. My family and I came to Sweet Fires to celebrate my cousin's birthday, since she requested something tasty that has dessert. This was one of the options I sent her, and the one we ended up going to. The are located in the same plaza as 24 Hour Fitness and Tpumps in Upland. There is plenty of parking in this plaza. I arrived first to get a table for our family of 7. The staff in front told me I could take this table in the corner, which was perfect. When they arrived, we ordered at the front and then headed to the table. The hot pots here are super affordable for only $12.99 for a hot pot AND drink. You pick a soup base, a topping base, a protein base, and have the option to pick add-ons. One recommendation for the business is to disclose what's in the base. When I asked what's in the sweet fires base, they said what's in the picture. Honestly I would be worried if I had food allergies, but good thing I don't. Also if it was already listed it would help with decision making, quicker ordering, not bugging staff with questions, etc. I had the Satay soup with the Sweet Fires topping base with pork. Most of us got that soup and toppings combination with different proteins. My aunts had the dashi soup with veggie toppings and tofu as their protein. The only pot we had issues with was my cousin who ordered the mala soup base. They said there was a funky smell and they thought it was inedible so they didn't eat. My nephew had one of their Pumpbo ($9.99) shaved ice and there was plenty for him to enjoy there and take most of it home. The food was average but what really stood out for us was the amazing service by their friendly staff. The owner or manager came out and greeted us and checked on us frequently. They gave us complimentary dumplings and turnip cakes. When they heard we were celebrating my cousin's birthday they even gave her their cold brew and this epic huge boba with all the toppings. She felt super special and I'm glad she enjoyed her birthday outing. I need an exact clone of it too, along with all the workers, because that was some of the best food service I've had in my life. The staff are amazing and super attentive as well as knowledgeable on their menu items. Shout out to Saja! I personally cannot eat pork so whenever I try a new soup spot I always ask what kind of broth they use, but the staff assured me that their broths are either beef or vegetarian. While they do have pork products it is only added to the soups upon request. I got the masala and Szechuan soup with 8 dumplings (chicken and veggie) + udon noodles and it was divine! I also got a peach coconut milk tea which was lovely. This place is a 10/10 so if you're in the Upland area or visiting and want some good soup please make your way down! First of all, the prices are great. $13 for a big bowl of hot pot (sharable by two as long as you're not super hungry) plus a large flavored milk tea. Second, everything tasted great. We got a satay base, and later ordered a second bowl - the sukiyaki. We got the sukiyaki at a low sweetness level, as recommended by staff, but in the end we preferred the satay. They also gave us a sample of the mala, and I really liked that too and would get it next time! For the tea, we got the gingerbread and blueberry and both were amazingly delicious and sweet. Third, their hospitality is on point!! All staff were friendly and genuinely happy that we were there. The first guy we talked to, who took our order at the counter, was down to earth and friendly and gave his recommendations. Another staff member, who served the food, was sooooo professional that we felt like we were at fine dining! And on top of that... the samples and freebies?! They gave us a whole extra milk tea. Why? We made sure to order less sweet on the Sukiyaki. I liked that they have noodles in the pot AND they give you rice on the side. For $12.99 they also gave a huge Tpumps drink. We got the honey green and honey black tea. They even came with steamed buns which my kids loved. The ONLY thing I wished they had was a spicy bean paste sauce. I came here for an afternoon outing and eating. I was lured here by the shaved ice dessert and ended up getting one of the hot pot entrees as well. The only thing that threw me off is that you have to order first before you sit down. Once you order, then you're seated. It's a minor thing that takes some getting used to. Also, the shaved ice was a nice portion, definitely too much for one person! Try a group of friends or a small family. Just be careful of the mix of flavors you order. We ended up getting the brown sugar, which overpowered the lavender and other flavors. Try not to balance your heavy flavors with the lighter ones when it's your turn to order. The other great draw is that there's plenty of games and entertainment while you wait.
