The food itself was fine but nothing extraordinary especially for that price point. My husband and I visted for lunch last Friday and had the Tonkotsu and Szechuan broth base. We stuck to the beef and the pork belly which was very good, the beef not so much though. The buffet bar had plenty of options and sauces so that was a plus but unfortunately the lack of service really made this experience a two-start rating. We were greeted (dryly), seated, and left to figure out the confusing ordering sheet. Thankfully we have experience with HotPot and (sort of) figured it out and even after we expressed concern about how we were suppose to order/write down our meat selections per round (which they claim is unlimited but they only have 3 columns on the sheet) our questions remained unanswered. Trying to flag a waiter down to order more meat was a pain as hardly any were available and we were missing appetizers on our "second" but with the way the service was we figured there wasn't any point in bringing it up not to mention the lack of (flat) soda refills. It's been a while since I've been here. My boyfriend and I were craving hotpot. We looked near and far and somehow we were both drawn to go here. And I'm glad we did. We went around lunchtime, so it wasn't too busy. We were seated right away. The food at the bar was fresh. The paper they give you to self order your appetizers, drinks, meats, and dessert (ice cream) is really convenient. They give a good amount of meat portions per person. And you have up to 3 rounds to order meat. The food from the bar is unlimited. They have everything from sauces, to more appetizers or small foods, a variety of vegetables, rice, noodles, seafood, and fruits. Service was great. Our server checked up on us from time to time for drink refills, to clean up our table, and to get our paper for more food orders. Such a chill ambiance here. It's a large restaurant, so even if it gets loud, you're not talking over each other during dinner. It's very spacious, so when you're up to get your food you're not bumping into people. But it's on the pricier side (adult pricing starts at 11 years old) and only allows for meat to be ordered in only 3 rounds, which spoils the fun of AYCE and spontaneity. Food: The broths are tasty and all unique. The spicier ones (Shichuan and Soondubu) are not that spicy, but still hot and savory. Their Miso and Tonkotsu broths are safe and child friendly. Their meats were good quality and cooked quickly in the broth. The only negative is that their servings are kind of small and you only have 3 rounds to order meats. We ordered a lot of meat in round 1-2, so we were done before the third round. The bar of seafood and vegetables is nice and spacious. They offer gloves, too. Their sauce station is large and offers lots of ingredients to mix and try. The price of the meal includes an ice cream cup for each person at the end of your meal. Service: The staff is friendly and patient. They manage many tables, so it can take a while before they return to your table. Recommend ordering as many meat plates as possible in round 1 (3 plates per person). Then you might not need them to return for round 2-3. Ambiance: The restaurant is large and offers tables of various sizes for groups. They also have private rooms. Their cooking burners are easy to use and seafood/vegetables bar was replaced and cleaned off regularly. It's also located near Ontario Mills mall and walkable. This is a good restaurant, but the price is a little high for children that must pay for adult prices. We have a 12 year old that does not eat much, but had to pay full adult price. They took for ever to bring the meat and the portions were super small. They bring you less than half of what other places bring when they bring the meat trays out. It's also the same price as better hot pot places like All That Shabu in Irvine. Save your time and money and just drive to Irvine for All That Shabu. It's not worth it at all. Kombu at a lot of hot pot places usually is bland in my opinion but here it was pretty flavorful. It does have taste a bit like the ocean so a tad salty but you can add water if you're not into it. They had a huge food bar that you can choose from. They had fresh seafood like crab, crawfish, shrimp and other seafood options. Fresh veggies and various types of tofu and meatballs. Noodle options are pretty cool I usually do udon and spinach noodles (must try). The sauce bar is most exciting for me! They had so many options! Don't feel intimidated and if you do for my sauce I added: radish, garlic, chopped scallions and cilantro, a dash of ponzu, yuzu soy sauce, bbq (which is satay sauce), and a little bit of their house. But if you don't like what you made you can always go back and create another concoction. Forgot to mention there's someone constantly cleaning the food bar and they offer gloves next to the sauce bar if you don't want your hands messy which is extremely considerate. I'm happy that I stumbled across this place in Ontario. To begin the ambience there is very modern, spacious, and has ample seating. So on Sunday, November 16, my friend and I arrived around 2:50 PM, waited about 30 minutes, and finally got a table. When our server came over, she didn't greet us, didn't ask if it was our first time, and didn't explain how the AYCE works. She just came to take our order. It was my first time, but luckily my friend had been there before and was able to explain everything to me. After we filled out the sheet to order our broth and meats, we went to the food bar area to get rice, noodles, veggies, and sauces. The broth and meats arrived soon after we returned to our table, so we started eating. Once we started running low on broth, my friend wanted more. We looked around for our actual server for a bit, but couldn't find her, so my friend ended up asking another server. Even then, she had to wait a long time because the person she asked apparently forgot. We eventually got the broth, but it took much longer than it should have. While we were talking and waiting for our original server to check on us to see if we wanted more meat, she finally came back--but instead of asking, she brought the check. At that point, we were frustrated enough that we decided to leave. We only received one round of meat, which we shared, and I definitely wanted more, but I wasn't prepared to wait another 20-30 minutes or risk it being forgotten again. Since it was Sunday, we paid the dinner price of $38.95 per person, plus the cost of drinks--which I never even got offered a refill on. I ended up feeling cheated because I paid full price but didn't enjoy the experience at all and completely missed out on rounds 2 and 3 of meats. They even have different types of noodles--I always go for the spinach ramen. The meat quality is on point generally and the service is pretty responsive as they check on you often. The location itself is pretty roomy and they have a bar inside if you're into drinks, they have a good michelada. Was invited to a dinner and this is my first time here. The place wasn't as busy for a Friday night, however, parking was almost full so we parked near the Love store. Entering the place, you can check in with the front hostess while sitting near the entrance. The place looked clean however there were areas which you can tell they used as extra storage space. There's also a private room seating near the back. After getting into our seats, each table of 4 gets a menu sheet to order the soup base, meat, appetizers (1 per person), and drinks (non-alcoholic). Alcoholic drinks can be ordered through the bar side or servers. I chose tonkotsu base and sesame chicken for appetizer. For the meat ordering, it's 3 per person each round for up to 3 rounds. Had to tally next to the options and it's hard to sort out if everyone just digs in all together. The all you can eat option really means the sauce, vegetables, seafood, and noodle section. Very nice selection of options and I if you get a lot of these then most likely you won't get through all 3 rounds of meat. I chose the sesame paste with soy sauce, sausages (sweet and plump), spam, shrimp, and seaweed salad. Then for meats we ordered mostly beef options, bulgolgi was good but just not the same boiled. The meat slices were very thin but cooks super fast! We ordered 3 rounds of meat which is a lot more than expected. We were all super full by the time round 3 came. Ice cream was great but our favorite was cookies and cream. Sesame was ok, a bit too frozen solid. Thai tea was good but had to melt a bit to eat as well. Overall, we had a good time. We were told it would be a 40 minute wait for 2 people, but after about a little over an hour of waiting at the front in view of the hosts and no call to our phone number we provided, we checked in to find out our name was crossed out and 3-4 parties after us were already seated. The hostess offered the next table to us. Meat quality is good, they allow 3 orders of meat per person every round for 3 rounds which I think is a good amount. The meat comes in small trays for individual use if desired. Most trays will only come with 2-3 pieces of meat but it fed us well through the 2nd round. Staff were nice and attentive but I really do think they need to hire more for the floor. Felt like we only had 2 servers for one whole side of the restaurant and it's quite big! Drinks took a while to be delivered. There's a bar at the front where you can order drinks while you wait, pretty unique concept I haven't seen often at shabu places. Variety of vegetables and sides were great, I've never seen so many different types of noodles at a shabu place and each was good quality. Some seafood is only offered at dinner time (mussels, bay scallops, crawfish). Great variety of greens and mushrooms. Has a rice station and sauce station has plenty of variety. Their boiling world sauce was good, tasted similar to a sesame sauce. Appetizers: one app per person is offered. We decided to get the gyoza and furikake fries. Gyoza was good and crispy, but the fries were mushy and dry at the same time, with very little to no furikake or taste. Dessert comes at the end which is ice cream of your choice of flavor! Really cute pints that come with a spoon hidden in the cap. Was milky and creamy, great way to end the meal. 2.5 stars, rounding down because of the soup bases and service. We tried the tom yum soup base and tonkotsu soup base and both were really bland, like water bland. I had to add a bunch of my own ingredients to make my own soup broth to dip my food in. After an hour of boiling I finally got a base that had some flavor. My wife started out with tom yum and wanted to switch to a different soup base and they said we couldn't get another pot, only another base to her existing pot of tom yum. We didn't order too much meat but by the time we got to the second round of meat they were out of beef cuts and had to take a lot longer to cut more. I would say the redeeming quality of the place is that the veggies, proteins, and other ingredients they provide are good quality. Maybe if you come another day where there's flavor to the broths you might have a good experience. read more
