Service was good. The workers were friendly and let us know how everything works. Food: The appetizers were all flavorful. I especially liker the steamed egg, bean sprouts, dim sum, and cucumbers. We got level A and upgraded to add hot pot to our meals. All of the kbbq items for level A was also really good. Aa for the hot pot, the broth was lacking flavor. We went on a weekday evening and appreciated the quick service and lower crowd experience. We also went with kids and took advantage of their limited time special. We did not add hotpot so this is only for KBBQ. Combo B seemed worth it for the types of meat we wanted. Meat quality wasn't the best but the seasoning was good. Found a lot of the cuts so dry and tough. Hot/cold bar was decent. Definitely a lot of variety but I went for just a handful of things. Admittedly, if I'm going out for KBBQ, I want a more Korean-specific experience (ie. soups and side dishes) and while they had a few Korean dishes, there were many non-Korean options as well. Menu pricing is odd, as meats typically offered in the A-tier of AYCE BBQ places (such as bulgolgi and brisket), are in the menu's B-tier, which is $39.99 for dinner. You're able to order meat through an iPad, which is nice because you don't have to wait to ask a waiter. Something that stood out was the unlimited fountain drinks and the self-serve buffet area to grab side dishes and sauce for your BBQ experience. I especially liked the Passion Fruit juice and wish I was able to grab some Thai Tea too. For a first-time diner and a new spot, it was a good experience too. Everything is self-serve unless you get the premium meat package. Hot pot can be an add-on, I havent' tried it but they have several types of broth. A small fridge next to the soda machine is stocked with passion fruit tea, honey yuzu, and Thai tea. They have free ice cream at the end of the meal. They have a hot food bar which was good, plus a fridge for their hot pot ingredients. The sauce bar had a good selection but no brisket sauce which people were looking for. The rice paper that's near the rice cooker is dry since it's left out. The hot food section is mainly fried rice, chow mein, fried tempura shrimp, steamed egg, fried onion rings, egg rolls, orange chicken, corn cheese, calamari ring, roasted sweet potato, and fried rice cake with brown sugar. The raw meat section has shrimp, clams, chicken, lamb, beef, and pork. The sliced brisket usually runs out quickly. The cold bar has seaweed, kimchi, pickled radish, edamame, and smashed cucumbers. The area where you pick up the noodles and veggies were messy looking and in random plastic trays. YOI offers both kbbq and hot pot, but since it was a hot day we stuck to kbbq. After placing our orders on the iPad, we went over to the buffet bar and WOWWW there were so many options!! I loved the Japanese beef potato curry, lumpia, chow mein, steamed dumplings, and more!! The cold food section had a random mix of items that were equally tasty: kimchi, cucumber salad, pickled daikon. We had to remind ourselves not to eat as much or else we'd have no room for the meat. The meat was much higher quality than I'd expect! Short rib, beef tongue and the pork jowl were our favorites. There was a sauce bar (that I think is mainly for hotpot), but we made up our dipping sauces for kbbq. Think Chinese hot pot fusion with KBBQ Drinks were self serve. Came here on the last day of their soft opening promo. We waited until line for about 30 minutes before being seated. We were seated near the self serve food area. I enjoyed the concept of self serve. You can get up whenever you want to get your food. They have a soda fountain, speciality drinks, and ice cream machine in one area. And in a long isle / section you have the sauces,sides, meats, and seafood. Then next to the seafood is a refrigerator of veggies for hot pot (which was actually unavailable when we went). They have a great variety of items, and also if you decide to get a higher tier there are specialty meats and seafood you can add to your order by ordering on the iPad given. I noticed the workers in the kitchen would stock and clean the bar area where the food is. My only negative is the rice paper isn't good. Its hard to get because it sticks to eat other. And when you try to eat it with your meat, it's very tough and chewy and some it it gets dry. Although this place is self serve, we received great service. Employees came by and cleared our table of dirty dishes and for grill changes. As well as check up on us. The lady who rang us up didn't bother to check if we got the promo discount and ended up charging full price on the meal. Luckily I notified her and we were about to get a refund of our discount. One of the worst KBBQ experiences I've ever had. Dirty restaurant, terrible service, rude staff, poor-quality food, and completely incompetent management. We waited 30 minutes just to receive our first plate of meat. Multiple items were unavailable, the food was excessively oily, and the overall quality was genuinely disappointing. Getting basic service felt like an impossible task. The staff seemed completely uninterested in doing their jobs, and management was just as dismissive and unhelpful. There was zero urgency, zero hospitality, and zero accountability. Somehow, the people running the restaurant seemed more bothered by customers pointing out the problems than by actually fixing them. There were eight of us, and we got Combo B and added hot pot. I thought it was really good value, and the meat was great quality. These photos are straight from my iPhone, no editing. This place has been popping up on my feed for a while, so I figured it was finally time to check it out. We came here on a Saturday night, and surprisingly it wasn't busy. The restaurant was clean, had plenty of big TVs, and we were greeted as soon as we walked in. They even have complimentary agua de jamaica and horchata available while you wait, which was a nice touch. My friends and I were seated right away and decided to go with Menu B and add the hot pot. Our server, Aydan, was awesome. He was friendly, knowledgeable, helped us navigate the tablet ordering system, and stayed attentive throughout our entire meal. One thing I really liked was that the lamb, short ribs and pork belly (included with Menu A) are available at the self-serve bar. Both were delicious, but the short ribs were the standout--they were so tender and fatty that they practically melted in your mouth. I ordered the brisket from Menu B for my hot pot, and it was the perfect choice. The bar also had fried egg noodles, Wagyu fried rice, and shrimp tempura, and everything we tried was excellent. The sauce bar had just about every condiment you could think of, making it easy to customize the perfect dipping sauce. Honestly, there was so much going on--in the best way. Between grilling meat, cooking hot pot, hanging out with friends, and teaching them how to cook hot pot for the first time, we completely lost track of time. I never seen Wagyu with that little bit of marbling, looks more like Choice grade. But I could be wrong. $50 all you can eat Wagyu, not a bad price. I just don't think they serve Wagyu beef. The hot pot is impractical. Having a hot pot on the same table as a grill just crowds everything. Not a pleasant experience, especially when the servers don't come around often to clean up. We got in line and were the numbers 27 and 28! Just barely made it. After the first 30 people, the next 30 in line wouldve been 25% off. Still not a bad deal. Anyways, we wanted to take the opportunity to try the wagyu beef items. My best guess is these were Australian wagyu. Still fantastic quality though. Our favorite was the lamb rack. You get 2 pieces per person and they are thick cuts. The snowflake boneless short ribs were very tender as well, but small pieces. Now the wagyu ribeye. My goodness there was such a huge chuck of fat it was glorious. Cut it to use as grease for the grill. Worked great. Will say that the amount of fat content did make it hard to get a sear on it however. All in all, fantastic 2nd time dining here and will be back for more. We visited the place on Labor Day (which they count as holiday pricing, but was not listed on the menu). The soft opening sign is up outside. Quick summary. Not impressed by food. Disappointed by what could have been - food, drinks, service. There is room for improvement. I may give it another try when they are not in a soft opening phase. Details: Ambiance. Big, open and spacious. It seemed like they group bbq settings on one side and the combo bbq/hotpot in another. We had bbq only and was seated near the food buffet. The bbq vent is individual and can be adjusted up or down. Ours was pulled too low so I was dodging it with my tongs and scissors to flip and cut up food. They were very short staffed - our grill was never changed. We paid for the second tier because I was craving short ribs and my family wanted brisket. Other restaurants have brisket as a classic tier 1, but here we had to pay extra for it. We were also told that due to the holiday weekend and Monday, they did not yet have any beef tongue available. Some of the fountain drinks were empty, and the refrigerated drinks (yuzu, passion fruit, thai tea) were all out by 12ish. If you order tier 1, it's self-served. With tiers 2 and 3, you order from a tablet. They don't limit how much you order at a time, but they do make you wait 10 mins between rounds. Only meat I got from self-serve was beef short plate. That was slightly a bigger slice than expected, so it was a bit chewy - not a fan. There was a variety of meats and seafood from the self-serve area, but I didn't get anything else besides short plate. Buffet station. This was for sauce, sides, and a few typical Chinese/Asian entrees and desserts. They had vegetable eggrolls, but no sweet n sour sauce. They had tempura shrimp, but no tempura sauce. read more

I like that if you choose tier 2 and up, you can just select from the table what your order is every few minutes. However service was mediocre. I was excited to try this place since it's the first kbbq place in Montclair. We got sat down by the hostess pretty quickly. However when she sat us down, she didn't say anything - didn't let us know about how it works or that someone would be with us shortly. We just sat there not knowing what we needed to do. Noticed a lot of dirty tables around us that had not been picked up. After over 10 minutes of not being attended to, we left. Maybe we just came on a bad day... Aggressively mid tier. The poor service is entirely about the ordering system. They were understaffed but any time a staff member tended to us, they were polite, kind, and helpful. The ordering system failed to transmit the order multiple times. The food was average quality, meat was not super flavorful or well seasoned, many cuts were very fatty, the steamed egg was not hot, not a lot of veggies for grilling like onions. The drinks station was nice. The atmosphere suffered because of the fatty cuts of meat smoking much more than a properly trimmed cut would. Everything on the table received a thin sheen of grease by the end of the meal and the ventilation, which should have been sufficient, couldn't keep up. They have a lot to figure out still before a proper grand opening. read more
