The reason I'm giving Orange Fish four stars instead of five is the service/order process, especially for larger groups. We were a party of nine and were given only one tablet to place everyone's orders. Then, when the sushi came out, everything was brought to the table together without really knowing who ordered what. By the time everything arrived, I honestly forgot what I had ordered and just started eating whatever was on the table! The food itself is definitely worth coming back for. Came here to celebrate a friend's birthday. What a treat! The place wasn't super busy. While it normally is difficult to find parking, it was quite easy on the Wednesday evening that we came. The restaurant is cute and cozy. They had a few Happy Birthday sunglasses props up front that we used to take celebratory photos with while waiting for our table. All of the Nigiri was fresh, generously cut, and delicious. My favorite was the yellowtail, salmon belly, and seared pepper salmon. The appetizers were very nice as well. The yellowtail, tuna, and salmon carpaccio are a must-try!! The only thing I was not a huge fan of was the sushi rolls which were overpowered with the taste of sesame oil and a fit fishier, but I usually don't really order rolls so it was not a problem for us. This is a great location located within a condo complex, which offers a plenty amount of free parking which is shared. When you step inside into the restaurant, it's a nice, darker ambiance which includes plenty of regular seating along with a few large booth seating for larger groups. You can either order with their tablets, or by good old fashioned paper and pencil, which is nice to have that choice. We opted for the tablet, and it was easy and quick to order all of our sushi items. Also, their current AYCE price is about $37 a person which is below average at other sushi restaurants, so that's nice. The service was great. Our hostess, waiter, and all other staff were nice and helpful throughout. All of the sushi came super quick which is also very nice. I love how all the portions are miniature, so it really is doable. And I like how it's only one piece per person not automatic two. Quality wise it's okay- it's AYCE so I think it's good quality vs other AYCE. Is the other added stuff that makes it better quality Now it's really easy to over order because they have the iPad system. Just be careful because they do charge your leftover food. We left one item a Ramen dish because it really was so bland and not good but luckily they didn't charge us so thank you for that. Trying out a new spot in this area - AYCE Sushi. I was thinking it would be best for lunch on the Friday before a holiday. We basically walked right in. The host was really friendly and got us acquainted with the menu since this was the very first visit. A big plus is ordering from a kiosk at your table. Kiosk has a timer for your 90 minute visit. Food quality as far as the fish goes was tastes fresh and portion size in scale is smaller than most AYCE which I personally like. Sometimes you just want a piece of unagi and maybe not 2 or 3. Enjoyed the miso ramen in its smaller size bowl:salmon skin salad perfect. Carpaccio come in pairs and are literally a sliver, again which I like. Restaurant is clean and maintained. We came in for lunch today for the AYCE sushi for $36 per person. When our first order came out, most of the salmon that we ordered had several inches of myoseptal connective tissue hanging from each piece (I had already removed one of them in the photo). I understand that this is AYCE sushi and not fine dining, but this is something that would require minimum attention to detail and mere seconds to address. When eating sushi, the cut of the fish is important and whoever precut all of the salmon should either sharpen their knife or their skills. There's a second chance while plating to fix it, and whoever did that needs either more training or a new eyeglass prescription. I was not even going to mention any of this to the server at all, but my girlfriend ended up saying something. The cut of the fish can make the difference between whether the food looks appetizing or like some slop that someone carelessly threw into a dog food bowl to keep the line moving. The server was immediately defensive and dismissive trying to say that what you see in the photos is normal and when I explained that cutting the fish properly so that there isn't several inches of connective tissue loosely hanging from every piece is the minimum quality standard for any sushi restaurant, she walked away without saying a word. Our lunch had already been ruined before it had even begun. We have eaten here many times before and have enjoyed usually above average cuts of fish, pleasant surroundings, Showa era Japanese pop music in the background, and great service from at least one of their servers (this was probably our fifth or sixth time and the service quality is a mixed bag), but unfortunately, it was our last. If I could give this place 10 stars I actually would. I have been to my fair share of all you can eat sushi places. I have to say that orange fish exceeded my expectations. Upon arriving at 6:30 PM on a Sunday, there was about a 15 to 20 minute wait for a party of two. Not too bad for a weekend dinner! When it was our turn to be seated, we were welcomed with enthusiasm! There is either the option to order à la carte or do that all you can eat option. I would highly recommend that all you can eat option! What I really like about this place is that on the all-you-can-eat menu you can try as many items as you like. Unlike other sushi places they give you a small reasonable proportion so you're able to try a little bit of everything! My new favorite AYCE sushi spot! My boyfriend and I wanted to check out a new AYCE restaurant & chose Orange Fish due to the reviews. This restaurant did not disappoint and we're glad we made the trip from Tustin. We were greeted very warmly by the hostess, which we really appreciated and it put us in a great mood even before starting the meal. For AYCE, you order through an iPad (which was super convenient) and they provide you with a menu that breaks down the ingredients. Their premium items were excellent and very fresh. They even had jelly fish, which is incredibly unique and we enjoyed every bite. For the rolls, they were cut into 4-5 pieces, which gives you the ability to try more items. Huge plus! All rolls were well balanced and full of flavor. Nigiri was the perfect size & portion. Quality was superb. Ambiance was calm & relaxing. Very modern asian decor. Love it! Great AYCE sushi and I loved it until the last visit a month ago. Their premium sushi is limited so we ordered ours the first round. It took a while so we didn't think anything of it and just ate the hot food and other sushi pieces that came out first. We thought it was odd that our premium order didn't come out and asked the waiter. He said that it was already sent to our table. He asked the table runners and the young lady said she gave them to us. Now, we are not new to sushi and we know what premium blue fin tuna and such looks like. We clearly didn't get our premium items. I think she brought them to another table by mistake and said she gave them to us. We were not happy and our waiter tried to talk to the sushi chefs. They said they made our order. Management said they could only give us half of our premium sushi order and that's it. It seems like they think we ate the premium sushi and are trying to lie. This offends me a lot. I do like their sushi and was so happy to make it our regular AYCE place but after this we are not coming back. We wanted to give another AYCE place a try and think we found our favorite spot. Price of AYCE is $36.99 a person. Parking can get little busy but we were able to find one behind the restaurant by the housing area. Walked in and server will ask if you are doing AYCE or al la carte. They will explain if its your first time dining there. Certain "premium items" are one time only per person. But those are always the best quality. The day of our visit blue fin tuna was good but their regular tuna was not as good as I anticipated. Its my favorite fish but I had to switch to yellowtail for the night. Rice ratio is good and sushi was cut pretty big pieces. I do like it when places use rice machine otherwise they will try to fill you up with too much rice under the nigiri. Overall experience was good and I don't know how long they will be doing the beer specials but we were abel to get a glass of Asahi for $3.50. I feel like compared to other places they definitely have little more options like fries. Although I love fries I didn't want my stomach to get filled up with fries lol Workers were super friendly and they food surprisingly came out super fast compared to other AYCE spots. I bet it's a pain if it's the weekend and busy but we went pretty early on a Sunday. The inside is decently sized. Not super big, not super small. You're given the choice of Ayce or normal menu. We always had to go AYCE. For the premium you get a set amount based on the number of people you have. I wanna say it's 2 pieces per person but i could be wrong. We obviously got all the premium stuff? The scallops were honestly my favorite! I was i had been able to order more but the rest of the sushi was great ! We also got some of their appetizers and fried stuff and it was all great. A good sushi place will have good crispy tuna rice and good baked mussels; if they don't... RUN lol The staff is very nice and you get to order on an iPad so it kinda saves the hassle of flagging people down. The restaurant is a good size and can definitely fit a nice crowd. They have a bar that people can sit at and plenty of flat top tables. They offer an AYCE menu, but we weren't hungry for that, so went with ordering a la carte. The menu includes a ton of sushi, Ramen, and Bento box type diner combos. There is a great selection of sushi here and the regular all-you-can-eat menu had plenty of delicious options. We really enjoyed the variety of the rolls and the classic nigiri was fresh and flavorful. I will be sure to upload all the photos of what we tried because the presentation was also quite nice. My first impression was a bit confusing because I was asked to choose between the premium or regular tiers before I even saw a menu. I would have appreciated a physical menu or a chart to compare the two options first, but since I couldn't see the differences, I just stuck with the regular menu. The staff is very friendly and they do a great job of checking in on the table and keeping things moving. However, the ordering is done entirely through a tablet system mounted to the edge of the table. You handle all of the orders and modifications yourself on the screen. I usually tip between 20% and 22% when I go out, but it feels a bit high when there is so little server interaction. In this specific setup, the sushi chefs are clearly doing the bulk of the work. I really hope they are getting a generous tip out at the end of the day because the food they prepared was the highlight of the meal. It is a solid spot for sushi, but the service model and menu layout could be a little more transparent for first-time guests. My boyfriend and I love sushi. He discovered this restaurant on Yelp and we decided to check them out. The restaurant wasn't too busy when we went on a Sunday night. We were seated right away and they asked if we wanted Ala Carte or AYCE. We opted for the AYCE option. Restaurant was clean, ambiance was nice and our food came out relatively quickly. Our server was also friendly. The one inconvenient thing was ordering off the iPad. I wish there was a way to bring it closer or even having a regular menu showing all the different options. Sometimes it's nice to be technologically advanced but it's also nice to have old school paper menus so you can skim your options quickly and identify which are limited items. We did notice a timer ticking on the iPad so it tells you when your two hours is up. And it also lets you order 35 items at a time or something of the sort. The wait between placing the next order isn't long, thankfully. We tried a variety of dishes. Our favorite is the nigiri. I love how they don't try to balloon you up with giant portions of rice. The fish to rice ratio was perfect. I do wish that the ikura rolls weren't so small, especially since they're a "limited" item (max two orders per person for AYCE). Here we go, another AYCE Sushi review My gf and I are self proclaimed sushi connoisseurs having gone to most of the AYCE spots in our area, and we were excited to try out Orange Fish after we say photos of their menu and food. First up, ambiance: Orange Fish is a lovely restaurant that is clean, thematically designed, and the perfect aesthetic for a date night or quiet/chill dinner with friends. The restaurant is not large, with several close booths/tables and a sushi bar. See pics. My gf and I enjoyed sitting at the bar, and the restaurant wasn't too loud for us to converse and be cozy. Service: Orange Fish service is alright. The host was courteous from when we entered and staff were extremely friendly. They asked if everything was alright, and the chef at the bar always politely interjected our conversations when serving us our orders. When they got our order wrong, they communicated and remade our order promptly. My only gripe would be the fact that our waters weren't monitored very well, and I had to flag waitstaff down often to get plates/refuse picked up or waters refilled. Mild complaint tho, overall the staff were excellent . Unfortunately, they missed items on our orders several times. This seems to be a trend with AYCE spots though, and the staff are happy to fix any gaps/errors. Food: the most important part of a restaurant experience is the food, and orange fish is slightly above average. What was good: most fish quality was above average, fish-rice ratios were solid, nothing was overly sauced. As a nigiri-faithful, I was surprised by the above average quality of nigiri like mackerel, inari, and eel. We also absolutely loved their scallion yellowtail hosomaki!! They serve as a good replacement for negitori, and we will definitely order more of that next time. The appetizers we ordered (Soft shell crab, fried oysters, baked mussles) were excellent as well, and a unique differentiator from other spots. What wasn't good: Salmon. Seriously. As a salmon lover, I was extremely extremely disappointed in how flavorless the salmon here was. Not only that, but we got a few pieces of salmon which felt noticeable lower quality than what we would expect from OF. Like they were freshly pulled from the freezer. Even with the carpaccio, the salmon was basically flavorless. Quite a disappointment, which lowered our score for OF overall, basics are important. Price: we came in during their 34.99 AYCE soft opening special. As of Jan 1 2026, the price is the regular 39.99. I would say this place is worth the price if they can fix their salmon issue.
