I really wanted to try this place since I go to the local bowling alley quite often! $15.99/lb, pay after you finish eating. The set up was super convenient! Everything was tasty and the setup was really efficient. My only complaint is that the vermicelli noodles are all the way at the end of the line, which was a bit inconvenient. I got the miso base and my friend got the mala spicy--both were great. Overall, chill vibes and a solid spot!
I like how for their malatang soup base you can adjust the spiciness. The broth itself is very flavorful to a point where you dont even need to dip your food in other sauces. I wish they had a bit more selection for meat. But other than that it was good. You can add a homemade lemonade for $1.49 which was pretty good as well. Definitely will be back
Solo Hot Pot is a small hidden hot pot place located in Diamond Bar. In the same plaza as the local bowling alley of Oak Tree Lanes. Plenty of parking and this place makes some delicious deep-fried chicken wings with tasty hot pots! This is pretty much a customized hotpot that they say does not contain msg! I love love the tomato broth and you can pick one protein, six varieties of vegetables, and also a carb. Service was good and this place actually tastes good.
Very pleasant experience. Went on a Friday around 6:30 PM. When you walk in, the first thing you see is a waitlist where you write down your name and number. The young woman working immediately acknowledged us before we even finished writing our info down and asked how many were in our party. We said two, and she told us to go ahead and start building our bowls. The concept is pretty cool and very straightforward. You grab a bowl and tongs, then walk through the different sections choosing your ingredients. They had a good variety of veggies, noodles, meats, seafood, tofu, etc. Pricing is by weight at $15.99/lb. Once you finish building your bowl, you head to the cashier where they weigh it and you choose your broth and spice level. The broth selection was surprisingly huge, around 15 options if I remember correctly. I got the Tom Yum broth mild spice, and my girlfriend got the Organic Miso mild spice. We also added jasmine green tea and white rice for $1.99 each. After ordering, they give you a table number and you can head over to the self-serve sauce station while your food is being prepared. The sauce bar had ponzu, sesame oil, soy sauce, sriracha, Tabasco, scallions, cilantro, red onion, satay sauce, shallots, minced garlic, chili powder, chili oil, and more. The soups came out quickly and were served over a live flame at the table, which was a nice touch. Both broths were excellent. Even at mild spice, there was still a pleasant kick. The broth itself had good body and flavor and didn't taste watery at all. Service was also great. The server checked on us consistently, kept drinks refilled, and was attentive without hovering. The restaurant itself is pretty small, maybe around 8 tables, but it felt cozy rather than cramped. Nice interior, comfortable temperature, clean setup, and the vibe was relaxing. They were playing bossa nova versions of 2000s and modern hits which honestly fit the atmosphere perfectly. Definitely a spot I'd come back to. Great value, fun experience, and genuinely good hot pot.

They have a big selection of fresh items to pick from. Make sure to add the meatballs to your soup-they taste amazing with the broth! The staff is also very friendly and takes great care of you. What sets Solo Hot Pot apart is the customization and clean, flavorful broths that don't leave you feeling heavy or overly thirsty. I genuinely appreciate that the soup tastes rich and satisfying without that MSG aftertaste. The ingredient quality is top-notch--everything feels fresh, and I love how thoughtfully they prep the veggies. Like the pumpkin slices: most places leave the tough skin on, but here they remove it so every bite is tender and delicious. That kind of attention to detail really shows. The tomato soup is my go-to--comforting and packed with flavor. I've also tried the tom yum and was shocked by how much it tasted like the real deal from a Thai restaurant. Super bold and tangy, in the best way. Their fried chicken and fried oysters are on point and come out nice and hot! If you love hot pot but want a healthier, fully customizable option, Solo Hot Pot is absolutely worth checking out!

Came here right before our bowling rsvp. We were gonna go to another restaurant, but they kept delaying our place, so we no longer wanted to wait anymore. They have a long list of menu of all the broth, ingredients and condiments to make your own Malatang or hot pot. We were a bit overwhelmed, but we just went with it. They didn't tell us that for shared plate they would charge extra until we saw it ourselves on our bill. The food came out pretty fast and already cooked. So it's like boiling point, kind of, but lighter broth flavor. The interior is cute and they have wood divider between tables.

I'm guessing they were understaffed or didn't have enough ppl working to manage the tables there. It took us about 20 min to get seated so not ideal given the open tables. I like the format of the menu and the options and generally really affordable if you go for the most basic options. It starts at $13.99 for 1 protein + 6 ingredients + 1 starch + 2 condiments. However almost every item that I like cost extra. The sukiyaki broth was an extra $5, items like tofu skin shrimp, spam, tripe and bean curd were like an extra $2-$3 each. And they even upcharge for udon and ramen. I stuck with the most of the basics with the top blade and dashi broth but it can start to add up and you could easily end up spending $30 which is getting close to AYCE prices. Service was also not super attentive and we did not really get refills on water. The interior was clean and generally inviting. I would only come back if I wanted something super simple because the starting price point is really good considering, I just wish they didn't up charge so much for so many little things. $5 extra seems a little steep for a different broth base. The quality was decent and the vegetables were fresh.
My service club was trying out different restaurants in Diamond and June's spot is Solo Hot Pot. We came at a good time for dinner and was able to fit our group in two tables pushed together. Each person orders their own thing, picking their ingredients and broth. They weigh your bowl of stuff (veggies, meat, seafood, noodles, etc) and it's $15.99 per pound. If you don't pace yourself, it's very easy to end up with an expensive bowl of hot pot. Mines ended up weighting a little over 1.5 lbs, so my hot pot was over $25 before taxes. Some broths also have an additional charge (like the tonkotsu is $4.95 extra), so keep that in mind. I picked the organic miso broth, which had no extra charge. My hot pot was pretty yummy since I got to choose exactly what I wanted in it and even though I ordered a little too much, I enjoyed it the next day for lunch. The sauce bar is included and they offer iced green tea with refills for $1.99 more. If you need a refill of the iced tea, you can let them know and they'll refill your cup. Very refreshing! Even though we paid separately, they do charge 18% big party service charge for groups of 5 or more. Parking was plentiful and easy in the plaza. read more

They have changed the way you order your food since I last wrote my review. Instead, you can pick how much serving of meats, mushrooms, and so forth you want instead of from a menu. They charge per lb I believe. There is also a separate serving table in which you can pick sauces you want! I tried it recently after probably half a year of not coming and it's still soooo tasty. Still amazing and welcoming service from the person up front. Food is so fresh and I always crave solo hot pot. They play nice music that isn't too loud while you're eating as well. Came here once on a solo date and absolutely fell in love! I went back on another solo date and just as good as the first time. They charge by weight and you pay at the end. The self serve station begins as soon as you walk in and you work your way up through the selections to the register. I came to try this place for the first time with my boyfriend and was initially excited to see on their website that none of their soups contain MSG. The atmosphere was pleasant, and our server was polite and checked in with us throughout the meal. I ordered the tomato soup base, and my boyfriend got the Japanese curry base. Both tasted good, and we appreciated the ability to adjust the spice level when ordering. However, the pricing felt misleading. The menu lists $13.99 for a set that includes 1 protein, 6 ingredients, 1 starch, and 2 condiments, with an additional charge of $2.99-$4.99 for the soup base. At first glance, it seems like a decent deal for hot pot. Unfortunately, many basic items came with extra charges -- including popular ingredients like spam, rice cake, and bean curd, and many more. Even choosing noodles over rice incurred an extra fee. The sauce is served in a small tray, and I finished it in just a couple of bites -- only to find out there's an extra charge for a refill. As for the protein, we chose the "USDA Prime beef," but it was a letdown. The meat seemed old, was difficult to chew, and mostly fat. I tried to finish it but couldn't. Overall, I appreciated the ambiance, the no-MSG soups, and the friendly service. But I wouldn't return due to the excessive upcharges and disappointing meat quality -- especially since the soup and protein are the heart of any hot pot experience. read more

The service was quick, and I appreciate that they only checked on my table for water and condiment refills; I also like the dividers between tables, as it adds to the solo dining experience. I ordered the classic dashi soup base, the $13.99 combo: You get 1 protein, 6 ingredients, 1 starch, and 2 condiments. We decided to check out this spot since it's nearby, and we went for lunch around 12 PM on a Monday. There was no wait, which was a nice surprise! I got the Tom Yum, while my husband went for the Organic Miso. The broth was light and clean, the kind you'd make at home, which I really enjoyed. I appreciate the customization options, though keep in mind it can add up quickly if you choose certain add-ons ($2-$3 each). The service was excellent--the server greeted us immediately and kept checking on us throughout our meal. The food was overall great, and the fried squid legs were perfectly light and crunchy. The satay and house chili crisp weren't spicy enough for me, though the chili crisp did have a kick for my husband. They don't allow you to use your own chili oil since they do charge for sauces, which I understand, but I just wish I could've made it extra spicy. My mom has brought me here 4 times over the holiday break alone and it has never disappointed! Quality hot pot for single pringles that doesn't break the bank. Starch, protein, various hotpot ingredients, and condiments all included (some with an upcharge, but even their free options are great). Huge fan of their fresh beef and lamb offered as proteins. Also some solid appetizers as well (squid & fries were nice and crisp). The owners are very sweet with the wife working the front and making sure you have everything for a great meal while the husband takes care of the kitchen making delicious food A very simple atmosphere with cute wall decorations and Asian pop music playing. I found this hot pot place on Yelp and it's like a hidden gem in Diamond Bar. We felt a little skeptical of the location because it's located in an old plaza next to the bowling "Oak Tree Lanes" and it was so quiet on the weekend. It's so cozy inside. They have curtains as dividers for privacy in between tables. When we entered the hot pot place, it was pretty empty inside. The server was very friendly and helpful and asked us if it was our first time. I like their idea for creating your solo hot pot. Step 1: you need to choose your soup base, we picked yellow curry, kimchi, and classic dashi. (note: only Dashi with $0 charge, other soup base charge additional $2.99-$4.99) Our yellow curry and kimchi both charge $3.99 each additional. Step 2: you choose your spicy level Step 3: Choose a combo 1 Protein + 6 Ingredients + 1 Starch + 2 Condiments +$13.99 or 1 Protein + 9 Ingredients + 1 Starch + 2 Condiments +$15.99 lastly, choose your protein, ingredients, a starch and condiments. We all chose Angus beef as our protein and the Angus beef was cut into thin slices. I liked my yellow curry soup base and it was not spicy. The kimchi one was a little spicy. Dashi soup base was less flavorful but some people may like it. For the ingredients, I liked tempura fish cake, HonShimeji Mushroom, rice cake, imitation crab meat, and stuffed Eel Fish Ball, etc. The rice was soft and the instant ramen was also yummy for the hotpot. Another individual hotpot spot in Cali! One pot has a bunch of add on prices. There's only two soups with no add on prices, but most of the foods have add on. Expensive for same thing that you could get else where with better quality food. The food is bought out to frozen and then you have to wait a while for the pot to start cooking. It took about 30 minutes. I should have the food ready. While compared to pot on fire the food is not frozen when it comes out. I guess it's more of a traditional hot pot experience where you kind of grab the food and it's frozen if that's what you prefer. It's was pretty empty here with not that many guest, but it was a cozy nice space to eat and hang out with some friends. The plaza that it's at is pretty dark and not something that would stand out to me, so without Yelp I probably wouldn't have visited. What a quiet hidden gem!!! We drive by several times noticed the restaurant sign. Decided to come here tonight on a cold drizzly night. Only one table of customers. Server explained to us how the ordering works. We filled out our choices on the meat, side dishes items, spicy level, soup base. Food came out quick. I have the miso soup base with mild spicy level, 6 items of stuff and shallot sauce and satay sauce. I appreciate the fact that there's good amount of lamb meat. Everything is so delicious together. Mine came up to be $17. I think with how everything cost at the restaurant, this is not too bad. We would be happy to come back again and bring family and friends. We both ordered different base options--mine was the kimchi base with noodles and medium spice, and my partner had the Szechuan base with rice and spicy level. We each got two servings of beef. I added the house sauce, which honestly made the meal for me. It brought everything together and gave it a bold, flavorful kick that I really enjoyed. My partner, on the other hand, wasn't as impressed with his sauce, so the meal didn't hit the same for him. If it were just up to him, he'd probably rate it a 3 out of 5. For me, it's a solid 4--almost a 5--except we ended up waiting over an hour (about 75 minutes) for our food, which was a big letdown. We didn't expect that long of a wait, and it definitely took away from the overall experience. That said, our waitress was amazing--so warm, kind, and sweet. She really did her best and kept a great attitude the whole time. The long wait definitely wasn't her fault; the kitchen just seemed backed up. The space itself is very small--clean, but also really quiet, so you can hear everyone's conversations. We love hot pot! After a long drive, we found Solo Hot Pot. Luckily we were the last ones in before they ran out of soup on a Thursday night! Service was attentive and friendly. The atmosphere was exceptionally clean. I also enjoyed listening to the soft music playlist ranging from Anita Baker, Luther Vandross, and Khalil Fong. Solo Hot Pot really deserves high marks for the food quality and presentation. The vegetables were very fresh and generously portioned. We ordered miso, tom yum Kung and Japanese curry broths with lamb and beef. We finished everything! The pickiest person in my party didn't leave a drop of the Japanese curry soup! I found this on yelp and this definitely is a hidden gem! It's not too crowded on a weekday, I was able to walk in with plenty of tables open (they have maybe 10 tables total), though if they do get crowded looks like they have a yelp waitlist. The ordering is quite a bit different than that of other hotpot places. Everyone at the table is given their own paper menu that they get to select what soup base, meat, carb, side ingredients, and sauce they want. One notable thing about this spot is that the price is very reasonable, for 6 side items, 1 meat, and soup broth, it's only like $13.99 which is quite a bit cheaper than other hotpot places. Taste wise, everything was fresh, especially the meat and the soups were good. There is too many ingredients to choose from but here are some of the notable ones that I enjoyed. Tom Yum Soup - Little bit sour and overall good flavor. (4.5/5) Miso Soup - Waitress told us this was a top pick and I can see why, its delicious. (5/5) USDA Choice Beef - I selected the beef as the meat option and would recommend, it was pretty solid and got like 12-16 pieces, I didn't count but it seemed like a lot. (4.5/5) Sweet Potato Vermicelli - Would recommend this, it's like the noodle they put in japchae. No extra charge and delicious. (5/5) All ingredients I choose were good and you probably won't go wrong with any of them. Also I have to say the spiciest level they have is pretty spicy (was fine for me and they gave me a warning and admittedly it's pretty spicy, like a 9/10 spice). Personally, I believe the 6 ingredient set is enough for a meal, I was pretty full after eating. I would totally be back here to get my hotpot fix. I come by often while I'm at school at cal poly, and it's definitely my favorite spot to grab dinner with my friends! Every time my boyfriend is in town, we always make sure to come by.
