They also have lunch specials that come with miso soup, a chef salad, and unlimited steamed rice when you dine in. We ordered the seared salmon and avocado bowl and the Japanese chashu don. The salmon and avocado bowl had a bit too much sauce for me but, overall, we enjoyed our dishes. The inside is small with just a few tables and the staff is kind. I got Yubu at Picnic Time Cafe a few days ago, and they now look even neater and organized inside. It's a small and cute cafe, but the ambiance is welcoming and comfortable. They also have a lot of new items on the menu. I first ordered the seared salmon Yubu and also ordered their Gunkan sushi. I picked a potato & corn salad and a crab & avocado sushi. The service was a little bit slow, because there were only 2 tables had customers. I've waited for my to-go order for about 20 minutes. However, the food was fresh and delicious, though. Tl;dr: I would highly recommend this place for it's quality and value. In fact, I believe the bowl I had was under undervalued. The atmosphere here is interesting. It has a small and playful cafe vibe with colorful decorations throughout. It's not somewhere you would expect an omakase experience or even their premium bowls, but I personally enjoyed it. The service was great. It seems like the place is family-run, and the waiter was asking me and the other customers how's their food and making small talk to ensure we were having a good time. He also was taking notes on any constructive criticism mentioned. As for my meal, I got the premium salmon and sea urchin bowl. I was skeptical about the quality of my food due to how seemingly affordable my meal was ($24.99 for high quality uni and salmon seems underpriced). When I got my food, I got complementary miso soup and salad (dine-in only), and I was surprised by the masago and black caviar on top. Salad, 3/5: Nothing special. Store bought ranch dressing. But the salad is appreciated for balancing out the richness of the bowl. Soup, 2.5/5: Very light flavor for miso soup. Some seaweed inside as well. Nothing special. Bowl, 4.5/5: The bowl comes with seasoned rice, avocado, masago, uni, fresh salmon, black caviar, and tartar sauce. Asides from the large amount of tartar sauce, the bowl looks beautiful. In terms of value, this bowl was topped with generous amount of avocado and beautiful pieces of uni. The seafood quality was higher than what the price would suggest. The salmon was flavorful and fatty and without leaving a fishy aftertaste. The uni was the star of the show; it was rich, creamy, and sweet. I would order this bowl again for just the uni. In combination of all the toppings, the bowl was rich and delicious. The bowl isn't a perfect score since I do think the tartar sauce is overkill and made the bowl too rich and heavy. The location has a handful of tables for seating and the customer service was fine. You can probably have about 12-15 guests max inside the restaurant. Nonetheless, the location is pretty cool with casual decor and a wall for some photo ops. However, the menu is where the $$ is at. They offer a wide selection of sushi rolls, Musubis, Yubus, nigiri and bento boxes I believe. The menu is pretty affordable overall. The Yubu are $5 each. The sushi/nigiri range from $1-2 each for 1 pc. THAT IS A GREAT DEAL! I ended up trying two Yubu and 2 pcs of sushi since I was limited on time. I got the Bulgogi and seared salmon Yubu and 2 salmon avocado sushi. The food tasted good overall. I enjoyed the Yubu the most and enjoyed not having to break the bank for some sushi. I honestly don't understand where all the high ratings are coming from. The $17.99 beef and unagi bowl was excessively greasy. The bottom half of the bowl was literally swimming in oil, to the point where the rice was completely inedible. The bowl itself was also very small, with only a few thin slices of beef. The spam musubi was a joke. Never have I seen a musubi with spam sliced this thin... practically paper-thin. The portion was so disproportionate it was funny-looking. The most concerning item was the California roll. It had a strong fishy odor, which makes no sense given that it uses imitation crab. This raises serious questions about ingredient handling. I've never had a California roll taste unpleasantly fishy before, it was shocking. 【It made me question whether it was spoiled or not.】 The salad was fine. The miso soup was not. The salmon nigiri was mediocre, with very small portions, though that part is at least understandable given the low price. Wasn't sure what to expect walking into this empty restaurant but I'm glad I checked it out. They have really cool choices/variants for inari. Like at least 12 I think. It's a lil pricey but they are so good. Id def recommend a combo so you save a few bux and you get a free drink. I wasn't expecting too much from the drink but honestly it was really good. The Aurora has a nice touch of honey dew and at 50% sweetness I could taste the tea. I think next time I'd still opt to go lower to 25% sweet maybe. This small cafe is a great place to go if you're interested in small bites and/or a moderate meal. On first impression, this hub feels relaxing with the decor and multiple plants around you. It was quiet when I went and the staff were very friendly. I tried their Tropical fruit tea, chicken cutlet with Japanese curry, and eel yubu. The tropical fruit tea was pleasantly refreshing with real fruit and chia seeds in the drink. It was a little sweet, so I definitely recommend decreasing the sugar if you prefer your drinks less sweet The chicken curry cutlet was great as well! The katsu was perfectly fried with a nice crunchy texture on the outside. The only complaint I have with this dish is that there was too little curry. I was disappointed that there was only a small amount which was not enough to cover the rice and cutlet. Finally, I had the unagi yubu, which tasted pretty standard. Tip: If you make a $20+ purchase, you can get one stamp on their card. Once you receive 10 stamps in total, you are able to redeem $20 off the next time you visit. Parking: Plenty of parking spaces. Easy to find a space available. 3 Inari + 1 drink: You can order any of their boba drinks/ sparkling drinks. Matcha Mountain foam: Not a big fan of their matcha. The matcha color was more on the duller side. Lemon Tea: So good, I would highly recommend if you wanted a bubbly fruit juice with fruit jelly toppings. Masago: Loved this. I'm a big fan of popping tiny fish eggs and texture in my food. One of my favorites along with the salmon inari. Bulgogi: So soft, tender and juicy. I loved that the inari was packed with beef. We tried the 9-item set, which comes with two drinks for $40.99 if you order online. For the amount and quality of the food, it's totally worth it. I'm also obsessed with their cheese avocado smoothie. The first two times I had it, it was perfect, but the third time it tasted more like it had a green tea base. I'm not sure if they accidentally made something else for us, or tweaked the recipe, but it tasted great regardless, so I'm not complaining! When it comes to service, dining in feels a little more casual--kind of like a fast-food vibe--but they're still super thoughtful. On our third visit, we were waiting to pick up our order, and one of the staff gave my 3-year-old a bag of gummy bears. It was such a sweet gesture, and it worked like magic! My kid ended up eating way more of his unagi bowl because of the gummy bear reward system we came up with. It's these thoughtful gestures that make a place memorable. The restaurant itself has a lot of personality. There's a cool popcorn machine, cute decor all around, and walls that are perfect for TikTok videos or photos. A cute cafe, with yummy food and drinks in a busy plaza. First off, plenty of parking and in between other stores, but easy to spot. They do not have outdoor seating, but inside seating. Total of 5 tables, with 10 seats total. It is a very small, dainty place. Their menu is straight to the point with options of inari, sushi rolls and bento bowls/boxes, as well as drink options. My main purpose for visiting was the Korean inari and they have a total of 10 different options. You can buy by piece $4.99, or get a 3/6/9 piece combo with a drink ($18.99 +), or buy the 9 piece palace option w/o drink $49.99. I went with the 3 piece + drink option, which turned out to be $19. I ordered the unagi, bulgogi and grilled salmon! All 3 were very flavorful and filled with toppings, but if you're feeling especially hungry, I would suggest getting the 6 pieces. My favorites from the 3 were the grilled salmon, then unagi! None of the inari need additional sauce because they were all flavorful. All items were made fresh to order, so there is a slight wait time, but not long at all. For drink, I got Jasmine Lemon & the drink was so refreshing! Not overly sweet and not sour, which is how I like it! The service was also quick and efficient, with the cashier and cook. I sat there for almost 3 hours and they never rushed or kicked us out. It wasn't until after we ordered that we saw there was a backside of the menu and there is an option for just inari combo. It was the same price point as the food and drink combo (less of the drink price for just the inari combo). We weren't looking to get a drink so we felt a little cheated after that but it's ok I also overheard another customer order the 4 combo of the 9 inari + 1 drink. She only wanted 2 drinks so the cashier discounted her of the total pricing of 2 drinks since she would've ultimately received 4 drinks with her order. I thought this was super accommodating! We took this back to my in-laws place to eat and we were so surprised how well-packaged it was! Anyone would've thought it came from a fancier restaurant. Loved the small touches of the orchid petals. The size of the inari's were fat and very balanced with rice + protein. We ordered the salmon, unagi, spicy tuna, bulgogi, and the grilled crab. My favorite was the salmon! It says grilled so I was expecting it to be cooked salmon but it was actually seared raw salmon - BOMB. If you've been on Insta, you've probably seen the Korean style inari sushi popping off in the OC, well, no need to go all the way over there! You can get some now at Picnic Time Cafe in the 626! We ordered take out and they currently have some deals to bundle some orders with their drinks so we opted for that so we can try more of their menu. For our order we got the: 1) Jasmine Green Milk Tea: -This comes with cheese foam on top, which I believed they torched as well? There was a nicely sweet creme brulee'd top part to it too. -The tea part was a bit more watered down and bland than what I would have liked, but the cheese foam part made up for it. 2) Oreo Milk Shake: -Standard Oreo milk shake. Can't go wrong with a standard classic and my brother really liked this. It's a tad sweet, but it's a dessert drink more than anything. 3) Temari: -We got the Salmon, Tuna, Unagi. -Visually appealing, these small balls of sushi are tightly wound up and are perfect orbs. I liked that they torched the mayo on top of this as well. 4) Aburi: -We got the: BBQ Unagi, Crab Leg, Salmon. -The fish pieces were generous and were long slices. -The rice did break apart but it was no big deal. 5) Korean Style Inari Sushi: -We got the: Unagi Eel, Grilled Bulgogi, Spicy Tuna, & Grilled Crab. -These are HUGE. Very filling for one person for sure and very shareable if you don't mind making a little mess. Not lying, one of them is the size of a small child's fist. They do NOT skimp out on the portion size here and that's a HUGE plus in my book. -The crowd favorite was definitely the grilled bulgogi. Perfectly seasoned and slightly sweet, went great with the sushi vinegar rice and the edges of the meat were slightly crispy from the char. Also went great with the crispiness of the green onions included as well. I think my only comment is that the salmon was much gray/pinker than the orange that I'm used to seeing, but there was not change in taste at all. Everything was nicely fresh and delicious. I liked the fact that there wasn't an egregious upcharge for crab or unagi like many other places do with their sushi/fish dishes, so another big plus for me. There's a refrigerator case in the front with some pork buns. They also have a popcorn machine for some complimentary popcorn. So random! WiFi is available if you want to surf the web. They currently have a promotion for a free Temari with the purchase of a drink. I purchased a Taro Boba milk tea and selected the avocado temari. The milk tea says it's caffeine free so I guess they use a caffeine free tea. The taro drink itself is ok, not too sweet, however the boba was hard. The temari was a ball of rice on top of a slice of cucumber, topped with slices of avocado and drizzled with teriyaki sauce. I've never had a Temari before and I assume it's a finger food. It is too big to eat in one bite, but when you bite into it, the whole thing falls apart and your hand becomes covered in food and sticky teriyaki sauce - super messy to eat. The taste itself was unremarkable .. Avocado on top of rice. Perhaps the other items are tastier than what I got. Had this place bookmarked for a while and was finally able to give it a try today. It wasn't very busy, and they did have a new menu up. I came came especially for the inari. I got the 4 inari and 1 drink combo which came out to 22.97. I got the galaxy drink which was very cool looking, and it tasted pretty refreshing. The chia seeds gave it a nice crunch. For the inaris, I tried the salmon, tuna, masago and eel. Masago was a miss. It was overly salty (I know that it should be, but didn't work well). The tuna was my favorite. It was smooth like butter and the sweetness from the rice and wrap helped balance it out. The eel had a nice smoky flavor which was excellent. The salmon was another good one. The mayo sauce they used worked well. Overall, a good place to check out if you're in the area. read more
