They also give you complimentary edamame and cucumber salad, which was such a nice little bonus before the main event. One of my friends ordered the chirashi bowl and it looked like a bouquet of all kinds of fish. We also got the chef's assorted sashimi (amazing assortment) the ankimo special (SO good), and the 4 piece hand roll special (could probably skip this one and save stomach space). For nigiri, we ordered uni, toro, tai, and yellowtail (all amazing.) The uni was especially creamy and delicious. The salmon belly was mesmerizing, the yellowtail belly melts in your mouth and did I mention the ankimo? We also ordered a fish only tempura, and they even gave us our own tempura dipping sauce. Their amazing quality and authentic Japanese food for their reasonable pricing cannot be beat, which is why my family is a patron here. They typically have unique weekly lunch and dinner specials. Love their wide variety of dishes ranging from rice, noodles, sushi, and etc. I appreciate how they offer either water or hot tea (free of charge). We tried their nijyu roll for the first time, which includes toro, yellowtail, salmon, and blue crab wrapped in cucumber topped with a garlic/ponzu sauce. This was such a refreshing roll and for $21.25 and the quality fish you get, this was so worth it. Would definitely order again. Our other favorite is their Dreyer roll, but I noticed the amount of eel/unagi and avocado on top of the roll has decreased overtime unfortunately. I really enjoy their soba dishes. They offer both cold dipping soba or hot soba with soup, both including a side of tempura. Their hot soba includes fishcake. I appreciate how they are open every day of the week for both lunch and dinner now, with their last call for dinner being at 9 PM. They are even considering opening for breakfast! They are also open on Fridays-Saturday for afterhours (9:30 PM - 12 AM) and serve sushi, ramen, appetizers, and drinks. Service: (5/5) The servers are always very helpful and attentive. They Sashimi Rollin' They Hatin' Sometimes as parents you try to keep your kids calm long enough for you to scarf down a meal. This was definitely one of those times. The server was great and brought us foam cups with water and spoons and forks. FYI my kids prefer the chop sticks even though all they do is stab the California Roll. We came after church right down the street and before they closed (closed from 2-5pm Sundays). Last seating is at 1:30pm so just be mindful if you're cutting it close to prepare for take out. It's small so when it's dinner time it can get crowded. We ate almost as quickly as the food was placed in front of us. My son love the California roll, my daughter chomped down on the rice from the Lunch Special. My wife and I tried to keep the kids plates full while we took it one roll at a time. Ninja used to be my favorite place for sushi. I usually order the Deluxe Chirashi bowl, but it seems like the quality is getting worse each time. The pieces of fish is getting smaller and smaller. You barely get any uni, tuna, or salmon. The rice was also not prepared properly. It was like eating glutinous rice, because whoever cooked it used too much water. I'm sad to say that the next time I come back, I will no longer order the chirashi bowl. The price doesn't justify it. Instead, I would get a la carte sushi. The positive I can mention is that the lady who served us always provides good service. We ordered the following items: -Weekly dinner special with Unaju (eel over rice うな重/鰻重), vegetable tempura, chawanmushi (茶碗蒸し), seaweed salad, and 5 pcs sashimi (tuna and salmon) $23 -rainbow roll $16 (8 pcs) -salmon roll ($7.25 six small pcs) -tuna hand roll ($6.5) -deluxe chirashi bowl ($37 mixed sashimi slices on rice, ginger and sesame seeds), I like my weekly dinner special because it came with so many different food in one big tray with nice presentation. And it also served with miso soup and salad. I like my chawanmushi (Japanese savory steamed custard). It served in a cute cup with a cute small wooden spoon and it had some ingredients inside such as fish cake. The egg custard was very delicate and solidified. The Unaju (eel over rice) was also delicious. It topped with grilled eel brushed with a sweet-savory sauce! It came with 5 pcs of tuna and salmon sashimi. The quality of the tuna and sashimi were so fresh! For the price of $23, it was a good choice! The deluxe chirashi bowl was truly amazing and the portion was big enough and their sashimi slices were so fresh and delicious. This is very authentic Japanese restaurant even though the restaurant is small inside, you won't regret to come here because their food taste great and you and your tummy will be happy. I've been wanting to return to this little hidden gem in walnut for quite sometime. Believe it or not I used work here as a server and sushi back in the early 90's during my college days....brought my wife here for an early wedding anniversary celebration. Walked in and the place looks almost the same as it did 30 years ago. We sat at the sushi bar and ordered many of their sushi specials. All of the sashimi were super fresh. The ponzu, garlic, yuzu added some extra flavors. The wait staff was super friendly and attentive. I started talking to the sushi chefs and told them I use to work here. It turns out one of the sushi chefs was one of the owners. I asked him if he knew the original owner Terry. He said he's heard of his name but has never met him. The restaurant probably had a few different owners since I worked there. The chef ended up giving me one of their commemorative shirts celebrating 20 years since they've owned the restaurant I will definitely be returning since I know the current owners have carried on the legacy and maintained the quality of the original Ninja sushi .... read more
