The delicious and lemony Lemon Blossom
    Tom C.

We came to SushiYa in San Dimas this past weekend to celebrate a birthday, and I have to admit, I was pleasantly surprised by just how much I liked this place. when I hear that a restaurant is part of a small chain, my expectations tend to drop a little. Not because I'm a snob, but because somehow the more locations a place has, the more likely it seems that the food starts tasting like it was designed by a committee. Actually, I am a snob. I lied earlier. First, the atmosphere is great. The interior has cozy little booths and tables, with fake cherry blossoms spread across the ceiling, which somehow manages to feel charming rather than cheesy. It's intimate enough for a date night, but comfortable enough to hang out with friends and spend some time over dinner. There's a warmth to the place that makes you want to stick around for another roll... and then another roll... and eventually you are fatter than a tick on a Texas hound dog. The service was also excellent. We had a couple of servers, but Lily really stood out. She was friendly, chatty, and genuinely helpful. Good service is what I expect when I go out to eat, but when I remember someone's name afterward and feel compelled to mention them in a Yelp review, that's a pretty strong indication that they were doing something right. Nice job Lily and thank you. Everything we had was fresh, flavorful, and really well executed. We tried the Lemon Blossom, Salmon and Mango Delight, and Venice Roll, and all three were excellent. We tried some drinks and appetizers too, but I already know you're thinking this review is too wordy. Each had its own thing going on, and everything tasted fresh and super flavorful. For sushi at this price point, I think SushiYa is a terrific value. You get a nice atmosphere, genuinely great service, and food that makes you immediately start thinking about what you're going to order the next time you come back. And apparently I'm already thinking about that. In fact, I may be driving there right now as I write this review. Which, in retrospect, is probably not a great idea. If the police see me, I'm probably getting a ticket. Whoa, I just ran a stop sign. So if you're reading this and there's a noticeable lack of punctuation at the end, just know that the final sentence of this Yelp review was probably written through tears as I look at how much this citation is costing me. Anyway, check out Sushi Ya. Good stuff.

Another great early evening at Sushiya at 536 W. Bonita Ave. It's a hot day too hot to cook at home so he went over to Sushiya for a little dinner. As always, it's delicious. We've been coming here for a few years and the one thing that stands out is their high quality fish and the care the chefs take in their craft. I'm always impressed and always say Thank You when we leave. Everything from the sushi, to the ramen, to the uni, and the wonderful sake selection. OH! And the Kurobuta sausage is divine! I've tried uni several times and didn't like it, but the uni here surprised me!!! I appreciate that they choose fresh quality uni. I love how they plate all their food. Feels great when the food is amazing and looks amazing. Also, their staff is always smiling, super attentive, and the most friendly. Thank you for taking such good care of us when we come in. Oh! And they change their menu often, or add new items to try. I look forward to each visit. Also the place is so cute! Very well decorated. Love the vibes. Very clean. Also, the Yuzu sake is fantastic!!! Looking forward to coming here for many more years. Thank you!

We discovered this cute little place for sushi! The interior was so cute, like walking under Sakura trees at night :) the lunch specials Tuna lover & albacore lover (nigiri & cut rolls) were fresh and delicious. Edamame came in a big bowl and the shishito peppers too, which I loved! Service was on point, very pleasant. The wasabi was in a daisy shape. Cute. Would love to return to try other items. Parking is easy.

Pretty fresh and authentic sushi in a nice Japanese izakaya setting. The place was pretty full on a Sunday night. However, our Yelp reservation got us a table ahead of a few groups. The hostesses were friendly and enthusiastic. The raw fish were of high quality, whether in the omakase or the chirachu preparation. The Berkshire sausages were interesting in presentation, but they were a little salty to our taste. I guess because of the quantities of food we ordered (3 appetizers, 2 omakases, 1 chirachi, and one hand roll), we were also given a complimentary uni order, which was really fresh!

Spicy pepper salmon roll - delicious!

The food is still consistently fresh. I still love the spicy pepper roll (might ask for lighter ponzu, it was a bit too drenched today). The lunch bento is such a great deal with a 4 pc sushi combo. Chicken was nice and tender! The eel and avocado was a bit disappointing today because the eel to avocado ratio was not great in some pieces but decent in others. I'm still supportive of the restaurant though! Always glad to have a solid sushi spot in the area though.

Good Service, good sushi, and good vibes! Definitely a great hidden gem in San dimas! One of my favorite dishes was the garlic edamame

Sushiya continues to be consistent both in restaurant and to go. The quality of the ingredients and service continues to be fresh, flavorful and welcoming.

The servers were great and they did the best they could do but the chefs were watching a movie while cooking and it took 45 minutes to get our food. While my son was in the bathroom the lights turned off and he was stuck in the dark for 2 minutes but luckily he had a flashlight.

Nice place. Food was tasty. Variety of sushirolls. Fish sashimi was very fresh. Servers are friendly.

Stopped by Sushiya and had a great experience! We ordered the popcorn crawfish, seared pepper salmon sushi, shrimp tempura roll, miso soup, and edamame, and everything was super fresh and delicious. The prices were very reasonable for the quality, and the restaurant itself has such a cute, cozy vibe. Customer service was great, as well. My only small critique would be the music. The loud pop hits didn't quite match the cool, moody atmosphere. I think some chill lo-fi or mellow instrumental music would fit the space so much better. Either way, we'll definitely be back!

Love this cute lil hip Sushi spot!! Delicious food, service and super chill. Glad I tried it out and the owner loves the Dodgers Win Win

    Chirashi bowl
    Tommy F.

An absolute gem for sushi lovers. The standout of the meal was the chirashi bowl, which featured an impressive assortment of exceptionally fresh fish imported directly from Japan. Every bite showcased the quality and care that goes into sourcing their ingredients. Beyond the food, the service was attentive and thoughtful without being intrusive, making the entire dining experience feel effortless. Although, beware, this is one of the only sushi restaurants I've been to that doesn't offer refills on green tea. The restaurant itself strikes a perfect balance between modern and inviting, with a chic atmosphere that elevates the meal. If you're looking for top-quality seafood in a stylish setting, this place is definitely worth a visit.

    Ask the Community - Sushiya

Do they have all you can eat and if so how much?

    They don't offer AYCE sushi.

Are there Happy Hour specials and, if so, what days/times?

I believe happy hour is on weekdays, but call the restaurant to see if they have happy hours on weekends, too.

Is this an AYCE sushi place?

No it's not. However, the portions are more than enough to get the job done. Go in ready to eat. Stay hungry my friends 😋

Is the sushi bar open to sit at?

No I don't think they let people sit on the bar

When I got to the lot, it took me a few minutes to locate the restaurant because the name sign was super low-key. The restaurant is pretty small but feels cozy. My colleague already ordered before I got there so I just ate whatever they put on the table! The only one I didn't like as much was the beef? It was too salty for my taste. The sashimi platter was the best! The corn tempura was new to me and it was so good! I think my kids would love it. The grilled whole seabass was amazing. Restaurant is located in a small strip mall, with a fair amount of parking. There isn't a flashy restaurant sign in front of the building, and once you step in, it truly feels like you are in a small, homey Izikaya in Japan. The restaurant only has a few booths, a few tables and bar seating inside, so reservations are highly recommended on a busy Saturday night. My boyfriend and I got lucky that they were able to accommodate us within 10 minutes, because there was seating available at the bar. There is a physical Drink menu (sake, beer, etc.) and the food menu can be viewed by scanning a QR code with your phone. The waitress made suggestions about which dishes she personally liked & we ordered whatever she suggested, along with some of the things we thought looked good. *7/10 Toro w/ seaweed *8/10 Moriwase (chef's selection of sashimi) 2 each of 5 different sashimi. There was one cut I did not particularly care for. *7/10 chicken wings *10/10 Beef tongue-- Tender, but firm. Delicious, a must try! *10/10 Ankimo-- creamy and paired well with the ponzu and fresh seaweed *10/10 Fried Seabass-- they served the entire fish, which is rare. *10/10 Sous-vide Duck breast-- must try! *10/10 Nikomi stew--simple, but delicious! *10/10 Matcha Oolong Panna Cotta-- subtly sweet with a smooth texture. It was so good, that we ordered two! The only reason that I only gave it a four out of five stars is because the service was slow. All of our dishes, came out in time, but no drink refills were given and the server never came back to collect our check for payment. So we had to walk it up to them ourselves. For a small space, with three servers, it shouldn't be hard to attend to all the customers. The menu can be pricey, but food is delicious! Along with exceptional service, eating here is worth it.
