We stopped by Sushiya in San Dimas for Father's Day were pleasantly surprised. The restaurant is much bigger than it looks from the outside, and the interior is modern with plenty of seating. The sushi was very fresh, which is always the most important part. Our favorite was the Lemon Blossom Roll, which had great flavor and was definitely the standout. We also ordered the Dragon Roll and Firecracker Roll, and both were excellent. The Spicy Garlic Edamame was another great choice and had just the right amount of garlic and spice. The service was friendly and attentive throughout our meal. Overall, a really solid sushi spot with fresh fish, good portions, and a comfortable atmosphere. Stopped by Sushiya and had a great experience! We ordered the popcorn crawfish, seared pepper salmon sushi, shrimp tempura roll, miso soup, and edamame, and everything was super fresh and delicious. The prices were very reasonable for the quality, and the restaurant itself has such a cute, cozy vibe. Customer service was great, as well. My only small critique would be the music. The loud pop hits didn't quite match the cool, moody atmosphere. I think some chill lo-fi or mellow instrumental music would fit the space so much better. I wanted to try a new sushi spot in the area and glad to have stumbled on Sushiya! The wait is real on a Friday night, so be sure to waitlist on Yelp before coming over. It was an hour for me, but def worth it. The salmon sushi was solid, I would order again. The rice could've been warmer but the fish was fresh and I appreciated that. The salmon avocado really hit the spot for me. Sometimes I just want something basic and this was it! I loved it. Would recommend, the salmon pieces were good too. The eel avocado roll was a bit too sauced for me. I think I'd have to ask for sauce on the side next time if I order it again. The beef teriyaki was pretty sweet and yet a bit too salty for my liking. I would pass on this next time. Although it is a decent amount of food for the cost, especially is you do the two sides and get sushi and a tuna roll like we did! The spicy pepper salmon roll was probably a favorite for me. The flavor combination was great. Love the flavor from the sear and the soy mustard. The chili crunch was a nice crunch and who doesn't love green onions?? I'd def recommend this! The inside is dimly lit but very pretty and has the perfect amount of space between each table. Also, the restroom is pretty cool too; some very eclectic decorations for sure! You can really tell they put care into every detail, from preparation to plating. The restaurant itself has such a great vibe. I came here with my brother, and we ordered two miso soups, baked green mussel, a Super Philly roll, two Red Dragon rolls, a Cajun salmon roll with spicy tuna instead of crab, and macaron ice cream for dessert. Everything was absolutely delicious--every roll I tried exceeded expectations. I also really appreciated how accommodating the staff were with my celiac needs. They carefully removed soy sauce, tempura, imitation crab, and eel sauce where needed, and made sure everything came out perfectly. My brother even had eel sauce on the side so he could dip. On top of that, the staff was incredibly friendly and attentive throughout the entire experience. The food I ordered for myself was not bad (spicy tuna roll, spicy California roll, and eel and avocado roll) but it was just an annoying first time experience with the business. I had my friend choose a place for me to pick up take out from and she chose Sushiya. I placed the order through their website at 4:45pm and instead of picking it up ASAP, I chose to pick up the order at 5:15pm due to traffic to San Dimas. I arrived at the business at 5:20pm and the guy at the front pulled my ticket from the register and tells me they didn't check to see there was an order placed and so my food was not ready lol. I think it took about 25 minutes after for my takeout to be ready and the guy just says sorry and hope four chopsticks is okay lol that was so annoying af. read more

I will preface this with the fact that I don't usually post negative reviews. But if a place doesn't get constructive criticism when it's necessary, their business might suffer without knowing why. I will also say that I hold sushi restaurants to a higher standard because they serve raw food. My first impression on walking in was that it was dark, even though windows cover the whole front wall. Everything is painted dark brown or black. The brown paint is chipped everywhere along the walls where the chair tops hit. The walls themselves are spattered with what appears to be the sauces of many past patrons' meals. There is an excessive amount of art on the walls, all of which could, and some was, collecting dust. The waitress was good, attentive enough and professional. The food was also good, but not great enough to make me not notice the state of the restaurant. With all of this, if it was the cheapest sushi around, that would have helped, but I would say it was a bit higher priced or comparable to others in the area. I would recommend a remodel, or at least a repainting in a lighter color that didn't hide splash marks as well. I hope that this helps you maintain your high standards reflected in your overall review scores. read more
