This place was quite good. I had never been to a Hong Kong Cafe before and I thought it was very on the nose that it this place was named Hong Kong cafe. The rice and minced pork was super good. Good sweetness and texture. The chow fun was good but I think I would have preferred soy sauce option over the black bean option. The crispy noodles had a really good texture that I really liked, but I wish they were in a diff sauce. A more savory soy sauce or a more salty peanut sauce would have been great. I also like the ambiance and service was also pretty good! the food did not take that long to come out. Everything was pretty affordable and parking was really simple to find as well! came here for lunch with my mom & grandma today and we enjoyed our food! Not having to drive into San Gabriel/Alhambra was also a plus since we wanted to stay local. Great value and great food in this Hong Kong style cafe. We went around 10am Sunday and it was not busy, and it was not busy throughout. As usual for these types of places, you need to flag down a server to fulfill requests, but these and the food are served very quickly. There's breakfast/lunch specials where drink is included or discounted, and there is food on the main menu that is pricier but larger portions and more lunch/dinner regular items. We got the chicken steak with mushroom sauce, beef chow fun, and chicken steak with pineapple bun. The latter 2 came with drinks at a discount - $1.95 surcharge for either hot or cold drink so we got 1 hot and 1 cold milk tea. The biggest value factor is that drinks are unlimited refills upon request. Chicken steak is pretty solid, though a bit more fat than I would have liked. Mushroom sauce is decent. The beef chow fun is large portions with generous amounts of beef. The noodles are cooked to a nice al dente texture. Chicken steak with pineapple bun is huge. It's good but something I don't plan to other again due to redundancy of the dishes we got. Such a hidden gem! Made the drive up from Irvine and it was worth every mile. If you come here, you HAVE to get the Beef Tongue Rice. The cuts are perfectly thick and tender, and mixing it with the runny egg is incredibly satisfying. Even better than my usual go-to spots. We also tried the Taiwanese Mini Hot Pot--the broth is mild, but their Shacha dipping sauce is super authentic and hits the spot. The Stir-fried Water Spinach had great wok hei, too. But the real plot twist was the Pineapple Bun with Butter. I normally skip these because I find them too sweet, but theirs is a game-changer. Extremely crispy on the outside with that perfect slice of cold butter melting inside. Took my Mom on a little dinner date and I actually saw this posting on IG, but for the Monterey Park location. My mom didn't want to eat a lot so she ordered the chicken wings appetizer serving. They messed up our orders and we had to wait an additional 30 minutes for the take out after we had finished eating. They said the chefs had gotten confused. Overall, it did not meet my expectations. Great Hong Kong cafe in Walnut. They have multiple locations but this one is my favorite one. They have popcorn chicken here and sizzling steak plate. Popcorn chicken has good seasoning and crispy. The sizzling steak is a piece of fried steak and goes perfect with the black pepper sauce. Grilled onions underneath adding aromatics. This was a hit or a miss- on the night of my visit, it was a bit off. Ordered the salt and pepper calamari/veggies/ and a Baked pork chop over rice. While the calamari and veggies tasted good; the baked rice was just overly doused with sauce and tasted slightly sour (that is not how it's supposed to taste). So I couldn't believe this place was related to the one in Monterey park. Got the rib eye and it included onions which made it extra flavorable. Compadre got chicken steak. Plus, got red bean drink and pineapple bun with butter. Food flavor was excellent and if in the area a must try. Staff friendly and ample parking. The reason for my rating is not due to food but they left the door open and their were flies buzzing inside. That's a big health hazard. If they can fix that this place is 4 stars. Delicious foods! We had the tomato beef chow mein, garlic choi sum, popcorn chicken, and pan fried rice noodle rolls. Growing up there was a Chinese restaurant in the Bay Area we went to all the time and I would always order the tomato beef chow mein. This dish seems difficult to find in other places, so when I saw it on the menu here, I had to try it. And I'm so glad we did! It was super delicious - the beef was so nice and tender. The choi sum was cooked perfectly. The popcorn chicken was so flavorful! The pan fried rice noodle rolls were good, but maybe not something I'd feel the need to get again. Not that it was bad, it's just there are more items I'd love to try from their menu! Definitely hit this place up if you're looking for delicious food. After trying the new Hong Kong Cafe near Puente Hills shopping mall and then coming here to try the original/older location here in Walnut, I would say that I just became a fan of their Hong Kong Cafe foods now, no matter the location. Cute decorations as usual. Good vibes and generous menu selections. Yes, authentic and legit in food quality, food presentation, portions, taste, etc. This location has more customers and can get pretty busy and loud inside with customers talking out loud/Cantonese style. Plenty of tables and chairs available. Male staffers are experienced. This location doesn't have as many TVs turned on, but it's definitely original. Beef noodles with veggies was legit. Iced HK milk tea & iced watermelon beverages were good. Chicken steak spaghetti with cheese was baked in good hot dish. It's definitely a casual place for all your favorite Hong Kong foods. Chefs are good and everyone seems passionate about their jobs. You can feel it's a happy Cantonese street cafe. Inexpensive and quite affordable. I would eat at Hong Kong Cafe locations instead of Delicious Food Court chain which includes breakfast items too, but much pricier there. Vibes are more hometown style here. Pretty decent Cantonese/Hong Kong style cafe that offers a pretty big menu that you typically find in the heart of the SGV. I would prefer Delcious food corner as the quality here isn't as good, but this will satisfy the cravings of you're looking for baked rice dishes, chow fun, egg waffles etc. The only dish I do not recommend is the fatty beef with XO sauce. I took gamble and ordered an item without a picture and it turned out to be boiled brisket sliced over a ton of bean sprouts. It wasn't terrible, but I wouldn't order again. The crispy chow mein was good as they fried the noodles better than Delicious food corner. They were able to accommodate and sub the beef for chicken. All the chicken here is thigh meat. So after a couple of years coming to this place, I am finally reviewing it honestly. It's a smallish place with a wall decorated with some nostalgic pics of HK. It also has an old telephone booth which can be a novelty for kids, as my so always enjoys looking at it! The menu has your standard fair of HK dishes. We typically order the wonton noodle soup, which is always consistent and a solid choice. We try really hard to order different things: pork chop curry rice, the baked pork chop rice with tomato sauce, minced pork & fried egg rice platter to name a few of our favorites. These entrees are pretty consistent in terms of flavor and what we expect. Nothing outstanding but consistency is key for us. We also enjoy their lemon tea drinks. Service is always friendly- they mostly speak Mandarin/Cantonese and a few speak a smattering of English. Again, we like this place, and it is good in a pinch when you don't feel like dealing with the traffic and crowds in RH/HH. Plenty of parking for sure! read more

This Hong Kong Cafe location can be found in the same large plaza as Starbucks. What makes this location different from the one in Monterey Park, is their dog friendly (covered) seating. My mother, my husband, our little girl dog and I decided to have lunch here last Sunday. We parked and walked over to the restaurant around 12:18 pm. There was plenty of seating available both inside and out. My mom informed one of the servers that we would like to sit outside, in which one server brought out menus for us right away. After looking it over, we ended up ordering: #93 Congee w/ Fresh Chicken, $9.50 prior to tax- Portion size, this is good for 3 people and probably even 4. I thought this was okay. I probably would have ordered a different protein for added flavor but the congee itself was cooked right and wasn't too watery (I prefer my congee to be thick but my mother and husband prefer their congee to be thinner). #17 Shrimp Hargow, $6.50 prior to tax- This came in an order of 4 and tasted pretty standard. #16 Pork Siumai, $6.50 prior to tax- Also in an order of 4, I thought this was also fine. My mom really liked them (but she really likes pork in general). #21 XLB (Juicy Pork Dumpling), $9.99 prior to tax- This came in an order of 8 and was good. But there was no soup inside. #76 Beef Chow Fun w/ Soy Sauce, $12.95 prior to tax- I felt like the portion was smaller than I had expected, but fair to feed 3- 4 people. I thought the flavors were good. #42 Baked Bolognese, $12.95 prior to tax- This was one of a few regular dishes for me to order when I was kid, whenever I would eat at a Chinese cafe with my father. Although incredibly fatty and unhealthy (because of that thick layer of cheese and oil underneath), I still really enjoyed this dish. But this dish was pretty rich. My husband, who has never had this before, really liked it. Hong Kong Milk Tea, Hot, $5.50 each, prior to tax- We ordered 2 of these, one for my husband and one for myself. We both did not like it because the tea was rather bitter. Hong Kong Milk Tea is supposed to taste over steeped but this was steeped for way too long, overpowering and ruining the flavor of the tea. Hong Kong Ice Lemon Tea, Hot, $5.75- My mom ordered this but I didn't ask her if she liked her drink or not. --------------------------------- (Total= $82.28 after tax, prior to tip) My mother really wanted dim sum, which is why she ordered a few items mentioned above. But she also wanted congee. I wanted the baked bolognese and my husband wanted to make an order since my mother and I were both ordering...and so this is why we had so much food at our table (and leftovers to take home). Our drinks were served in (heat safe) paper cups that is convenient for us to take with us. Same with cold drinks, I saw inside that some patrons had their tea drinks in plastic cups. But I am not sure if refills are offered. Service was pretty attentive, even though we were the only party sitting outside. The employees who took care of us were friendly. One employee had even complimented that my little girl is so good and well behaved (lol, if she wasn't, I wouldn't take her to places to eat out or travel with). The woman's restroom was clean during this visit and adequately stocked with the essentials. The woman's restroom is a single toilet that is a pretty large size. Overall, we had a pretty good dining experience and would come back. Please note that even if you do not speak Chinese (as my Chinese is rather poor...), the servers here also speak English so you shouldn't have any language barriers to dine here. read more

Not only do they still serve giant XL drinks when you dine in, they still have a wide array of foods to enjoy to satiate anyone's appetite. Cold weather? Get a mini hot pot with pork bone broth (my fave), beef and garlic soy sauce (so good) and vermicelli noodles. The portion is big enough for me to have the second half as a small meal the next day. In the mood for noodles? They have a yummy egg and shrimp chow fun, when you order it to go they separate the sauce and noodles - keeping the noodles from over cooking and so much better for reheating. Do you like fish? My fave way to get it here is either steamed topped with ginger and scallions or grilled fillet of sole with mushroom gravy. Both are perfect portions with rice and corn and the fish is not fishy. Feeling hungry? Try a Yang chow fried rice or any of the rice dishes, really. The best perk is their lunch specials on weekdays - they have a handful of select items available (pork chop, minced beef with egg, steamed fish, etc) and for $14.99 it includes a drink as well (if you get iced lemon tea you can get a refill).
