This is one of our family favorites when we're craving some delicious HK food in the Rowland area. It's located in the old 99 cent plaza on the corner of Nogales/Colima at the very end. The parking is VERY bad here but you'll find parking if you go farther towards the supermarket side. Yes there is always a wait here especially on peak weekend hours but the lines move very fast. You do ideally need a mandarin/cantonese speaking person however since majority of the staff don't speak english if you need help. The menu is huge with all your traditional HK cafe foods including a separate breakfast and lunch menu. The must have beginner items are the Iced Lemon Tea or the HK Milk Tea. They have changed the policy so you only get ONE refill now then you'll be charged for the 2nd refill! There on-going promotion is BOGO 1/2 steamed chicken or add $3 if you want soy sauce chicken. A very common deal in the rowland area however this place isn't the BEST for steam chicken since its abit lacking in meat and flavor buts till a good deal for larger parties. The other go-to items here are the walnut shrimp, french style filet mignon, egg plant with garlic sauce casserole. Get the short rib version if you want more protein! All of these dishes are super authentic and delicious and very consistent every time! There are secret menu items not on the menu like the stir fry two types of noodle with salted vermicelli(咸魚肉片炒雙麵/炒雙營). It's a classic HK dish with thin egg noodle and chow mein noodle mixed together. This chow mein becomes super crispy while the egg noodle remains soft. The saltiness of the salted fish goes great as the main carb. The service here is great with very attentive waiters. Yes you need to be aggressive to get there attention like at all Cantonese restaurants! For a late Sunday breakfast, I arrived at KW Cafe at 10:30AM. The establishment seemed over half full, but I received seating for a table of 2 immediately. I ordered the 鮮蝦餛飩湯麵 / shrimp wonton noodle soup ($13.99). This took about 15 minutes to arrive; when it did, it arrived piping hot. The noodles had decent spring and texture despite being thin. The wontons also had silky wrappers, but crucially didn't rip or disintegrate. The fillings also had properly flavorful and plump shrimp bits - no filler. The stock was also rich. This was textbook execution. In Cantonese fashion, the simplicity belies the execution and attention to detail. Note that the breakfast menu entrees include one hot drink (coffee, milk tea, HK style coffee & tea, Chinese tea, or lemon tea). 1 refill only, +$1.99 for cold drinks, +$1 for to-go cups. read more

Came to this restaurant with my niece and nephew for lunch today. There's plenty of parking in the plaza where this eatery is located. There was no wait when we arrived. Wait staff was busy and service was okay. Menu is good with plenty of options. Prices are high for some food items but seemed reasonable for most. We ordered the following: 1) Jelly Fish w/ Aged Vinegar (4.8/5) 2) German Style Pork Knuckle (4/5) 3) KW Signature House Filet Mignon [AKA House Special Beef Wellington] (4.8/5) 4) Braised Duck Noodle Soup (4/5) 5) Braised String Bean (5/5) Enjoyed our meal and had plenty of leftovers. Our group of 14 reserved a private room at KW Cafe for a friend's birthday, and it was my first time visiting. I was really impressed by how extensive the menu is--they offer everything from classic Hong Kong-style breakfast and comfort dishes to full banquet-style dinners. For our celebration, we had quite a spread, including sashimi, roast pig, king crab, beef filet mignon, steamed grouper, lamb rack, squab, chicken, and dessert. I'm not sure about the corkage policy, but our host was able to bring in bottles of wine for the occasion. Service was excellent, we even stayed past their 9 p.m. closing time, and they never rushed us. The food did lean a bit oily, which is pretty typical for Hong Kong-style banquet dishes. We always have their indoor seating but it was our first time sitting at the patio and it was also nice. The patio was enclosed with some lighting. The table was huge for both of us. Pretty excellent hong-Kong style food. I had a private dinner in one of the private rooms with 15 friends. I had plenty of food, from Peking duck, to seafood, other meats and starches. Evening was fantastic in flavor and it was so well done. What really stood out was the service. I did order ALOT of food. The staff did a good job of timing the food and was able to consolidate dishes so that my party had access to everything and anything they wanted. I was thoroughly impressed. read more

Honestly the food and service is quite good here. Just note that there may be a wait to be able to be seated esp on the weekends. This place brings back a lot of memories as it used to be Hong Kong Palace. It is now a Cantonese Cafe with a huge menu. I didn't take all the pictures of all the food due to being hungry but I did my best. They have egg waffle pancake (order ahead of time it takes a while). Really good dishes are Beef brisket Lo mein, baked bolognese, jellyfish, soy sauce chicken (buy half get half), and the lamb chops with black pepper sauce was really good as well. Terrible, we waiting super duper long for takeout, approximately 1 hour when they said it'll only take 30 min. Moreover, they kept lying saying my food was almost ready while other waiters I asked said my food wasn't even cooked yet. Came here during lunch time on a weekday. Resturant known to service Hong Kong style dishes/cuisine. I ordered fried pork chop/chicken chop combo (comes with either a side of pasta, rice or fries) which is typically served in a Hong Kong style cafe. Both the chicken chop and pork chop were very tender, and went very well with the black pepper sauce. With the chop combos, you also have the options of choosing different sauces such black pepper sauce, garlic sauce, mushroom sauce, etc. We had also ordered a bowl of wonton and braised beef noodle soup. The noodle soup was a bit light on the flavoring, but the wontons and braised beef pieces were just delicious! The noodle soup also includes a good portion of thin egg noodles. Perfect for a cold weather day. Service wise, the restaurant can be pretty busy, but you can always flag down a server for help. Overall good portions and great value for your wallet. I will have to come back to try some of its other dishes, and as well as its BOGO deals for Peking duck. Also plenty of parking in a big shopping plaza. Came back again yesterday for breakfast. I ordered the macaroni, chicken steak, and egg combo. The chicken steak was actually cooked really well with a nice crispy skin, but it came with no sauce. During lunch you can get mushroom or black pepper sauce, so eating it plain felt like it was missing something. I also got the shrimp wonton soup. The broth was pretty basic, but the wontons were huge and plump which I liked. The star of the meal was actually the pork and bitter melon rice roll. I didn't even take a photo because I ate it too fast. The rice roll was thin, silky, and slightly chewy. I honestly didn't know their rice rolls were this good and I'd definitely order it again. Average cha chaan teng / hong kong cafe in the area. Wouldn't say its bad but there are a lot better ones in the area. I'd prefer hk macau bistro just a few steps away. The cheung fun here is kind of stiff so I wouldn't get it here again. The baked pork chop rice was good! But it's usually good at most places. This is one of my favorite spots for steamed chicken. It's conveniently located on the east end of the plaza at Nogales & Colima. Parking is plentiful, though it can fill up during busy times. This was my first time ordering takeout, and I was genuinely impressed that the portions matched their dine-in plates. That kind of consistency is rare these days, and I really respect a restaurant that stays true to their customers. I ordered my usual whole steamed chicken (BOGO deal always a win), plus BBQ pork and salted fish & chicken fried rice. Their steamed chicken is consistently meaty, clean-tasting, and simply delicious. It's why I keep coming back. The BBQ pork was good, though it doesn't quite make my personal "top BBQ pork" list. When we got here, there was a long line. We waited about 20 min for a table for 3. The complex has a large parking lot and it was busy but we managed to find parking. Came here a few times myself and with my friend for hk style cuisine. Food is always pretty good quality. Generally you don't need to wait long time for your food, so the chefs usually do good job. Weekends usually are super busy so expect wait time to be seated for dine in. Service wise is usually okay but not always great. The standouts are the wonton noodle soup, tofu with double mushroom, and rice rolls! One of the best I've had for each category in the broader SGV and abroad. The baked pork chop rice dish was a miss, the pork chop itself was tender but the sauce and array of chunky vegetables ranks very low on my list. The pineapple buns were hardly anything more than just a plain bun, the cookie crust was almost non-existent - I would skip that as well. We tried KW Cafe while meeting up with from friends. We got there before they even opened, they open at 9am. So, we got seated right away. I had the Peanut Butter French Toast and it was not bad. Good flavor and freshly made. Comes with four pieces of French toast! Other people in our party had jook, wonton noodles, omelets and of course Hong Kong style milk tea and coffees. I like how the entrees here come with the option to get a drink, whether that is a Hong Kong milk tea, lemon tea or even coffee or both coffee/milk tea together. The best part is that the drinks are refillable, free of charge! You don't see that often in the Bay Area! Also, I liked how they give you the condensed milk on the side so you can pour as much as you feel is necessary for your liking. Was the milk tea the best I've had? No. But it's free and refillable while you dine! The customer service was decent, the workers were nice and attentive when you flagged them down for assistance. Despite its name, KW Cafe is more than "just" a HK-style cafe, offering a mix of cafe style food and cantonese seafood restaurant-style dishes in a dining room that is more akin to a chinese seafood restaurant (where you get a private room to host your aunts and uncles). The roast duck was very tasty and moist. The roast crispy pork was also very well done but it left us wishing for more for the price. The lobster with yee mein noodles was also very good. The lobster was firm, not mushy, and the flavor was definitely there. The food at KW Cafe is at a good level, everything tastes very good, it's just fairly expensive for the amount of food that you get. The quality of KW has gone down so much when the price has gone up. What's worse was the slow service. Ordered pork chop +eggs macaroni soup. Macaroni soup came 10 minutes after the milk tea and another 15 minutes more for the pork chop and eggs to come after asking two employees if they'd forgotten the pork chop and eggs. When the food came, the eggs were cold and pork chop lukewarm so clearly the plate was just sitting there at the counter and not brought to me. Beef chow fun is tasteless (should have known from reading other reviews, but it's one of our fav dishes) won't order that again...but Lamb with cumin is tasty, so was the chicken sticky rice wrapped in tea leaves, and the fish with Chinese broccoli. This absolute gem is serving up authentic Chinese food and Hong Kong cafe favorites! The menu has a Cheesecake Factory's number of options, but we settled on the black pepper sauce grilled chicken, baked cream sauce fish filet, shrimp rice rolls, and salt pepper pork. The chicken steak was very delicious with amazing color and crispness. The black pepper sauce is true to Hong Kong cuisine, where you will get hits of Worcestershire sauce. Also came with buttery mashed potatoes, rice, and vegetable medley. The baked cream sauce fish was great well. Fish was melt in your mouth tender and sauce to rice ratio was perfect. Too many times we are forced to eat dry rice when ordering these baked casserole dishes but definitely not here. Sauce was plentiful down to the last grain. I also applaud their creativity in adding spinach to the sauce, which complemented the dish well. The shrimp rice rolls are heads and shoulders above anything I have ever eaten. The roll actually held the shrimp in without falling apart. You will no longer be forced to eat this dish in mushy shreds. And finally we have the salt and pepper pork chops. These had the perfect crunch and seasoned very well, true to its name. Appreciated that it didn't taste like recycled oil. A lot of workers and guests speak Cantonese, so a good spot to hit up if you are not as great with Mandarin. Staff is friendly, takes away finished plates in a reasonable timeframe, and serves your food fast! The restaurant is super spacious and can accommodate large parties. And speaking of large parties, there were about 20 people waiting as we were leaving so be mindful of that. 5/5 can't wait to be back for their satay beef instant noodle breakfast. read more

Came here with a party of 6 for Thursday lunch. Waited just a few minutes before being seated at the covered patio portion. It was fine at first but got a little warm, so I'd recommend sitting indoors if you can. Ordered the chicken+pork chop plate with black pepper sauce and pasta, and a HK style coffee/milk tea. The drink is so bitter! But luckily they give condensed milk so you can adjust to your liking. The food was solid. I feel like hong kong style cafes have very similar menus and the food is pretty much all the same. Not a bad thing though, just means it's always a decent choice. Yesterday we ordered the 3 meat BBQ plate. The pork belly was nice but cold. The pork ribs was so tough. And the duck was all boney pieces. Very disappointing. I should have returned it. The beef chow fun was good. The salted fish fried rice was very dry. We've been there last Aug but the quality had gone down a lot. Server never came by to see if we needed anything. Traditional cantonese food that is way better than similar places in the 626. The chicken coconut soup had great flavor and very warming. The chicken has a buy half get half special now and was more tender and juicy than places in 626. Filet mignon with mushroom was also very tender. They like to show you the lobster/seafood they'll cook for you and it was indeed cooked fresh and fat. Don't want to sound excessive but it really was much better than the current quality in the 626. Parking is very easy to find and the restaurant is facing Colima Rd. KW is usually very busy during prime meal hours. So I highly recommend coming here earlier to beat the crowd. Compared to other HK cafes, they do offer a lot more variety of dishes but the prices are more pricey than other places. They do serve more seafood and bbq dishes too. Food does taste authentic. Portions are the same like any other places. The ambiences feels more upscale with the decoration, table settings, and even the table cloth. So this is how they justify charging more on the menu. If you are planning to take a guest to something nice and enjoy Cantanese food, this is the place. But if it's your daily meal just to get your Hk meal fix, this will be over your normal tab. read more
