We ordered the Big plate chicken to share, and let me tell you, it was phenomenal! The dish is a spicy chicken stew made with Sichuan peppercorns, cumin, and chili paste, and comes with handpulled noodles. It was my first time trying this type of Chinese-Uyghur crossover dish, and it definitely surpassed my expectations. The portion was incredibly generous as well, as the dish was more than enough for the two of us plus leftovers. I've driven past Ma's Kitchen multiple times and was super curious about their dishes. I had the opportunity to stop by this evening for dinner and while I did find the food fresh and tasty and the interior cute, I'm not sure I'll be back for more. Stumbled upon this halal Chinese cuisine, specifically Xin Jiang. We tried the signature noodles which tasted so rich in spices. The kebab was also tasted great, spicy level medium is my recommendation. While Naan Bread is quite unique with its pattern on the surface. The downside of this restaurant is the price which is ridiculous. Naan Bread costs $9, Teapot costs $7, Skewer is $13???? Service was mediocre. At the time of purchase visit the restaurant was quiet so the staffs chilling at the customers chairs. Decoration was epic though, I would admit, showcase the Xin Jiang's culture. A big restaurant with unique decor. There is ample seating and very roomy between tables. Our server was friendly and helpful. I am a lamb skewers lover so I was happy with the kebabs and the cucumber salad was tasty (although my hubby thought it was quite sour). However, I expected the Naan to be more favorful. It was bland and a little dried. The House Special Handpulled noodles was too al dente for us (maybe it's supposed to be), but difficult to bite or chew. Ma's Kitchen is a modern halal Chinese restaurant located in the midst of Rowland Heights among a plethora of other East Asian businesses. Their interior is beautifully decorated with Chinese art and signs, and they have plenty of seating. Their menu is pretty expansive, but my family and I always go with our favorite dishes. I'm not exaggerating when I say their hot and sour soup is some of the best I've ever had, rich and flavorful with a hint of spice from the black pepper. Their kung pao was good too, a little light on the sauce, and their sweet and sour chicken was delicious, crispy on the outside yet still juicy on the inside. Stopped by Ma's Kitchen for takeout a few weeks ago and we were all blown away. We were staying at an Airbnb nearby Ma's and some of the people we were staying with only ate Halal meat so we were looking for some Halal options besides kebabs. On Yelp, I found this place and we looked up the menu and it looked great so we placed an order over the phone. The staff over the phone were extremely helpful and kind to us. The order was ready rather quickly - I can't remember the exact timeframe, but I was impressed. Although we didn't stay inside for the meal, we did stop in to pick up the food and I was super impressed with the interior. Definitely family friendly, but with a more cool and modern design. I thought it was a very good design choice. As for the food, we got a huge assortment of food including a "small" Spicy Fried Chicken which was large enough to feed a family ( see my pic). Everything was great that we had although the two fan favorites were definitely the spicy fried chicken which seemed to be what other places call Szechuan fried chicken and my other favorite was the stir fried lamb with cumin. I think both dishes are must-gets and I highly recommend checking out this place. Although I will most likely not be anywhere near it again for many years, I promise I'll be checking it out next time I'm there! read more

Absolutely delicious food, unique menu items, fun vibes, and excellent service - our party of 5 had a wonderful experience here for our Saturday lunch meetup! Meals are served family style with generous portions. Their sauces are complex, savory and pair very well with their uniquely dense Naan bread. We tried their house special Big Plate Chicken with their hand-pulled flat noodles, the Style Steak, Dry Pot Cauliflower, Lamb Skewers, Steamed Lamb & Spices, Fried Lettuce, and their homemade Naan bread. This was way more than enough for the 5 of us - we had quite a bit of leftovers actually lol. The Big Plate Chicken is a giant, deep plate full of generous bite-sized chicken thigh pieces and veggies stewed in a slightly spicy red sauce - we added several portions of their hand-pulled flat noodles to it and I highly recommend- it's incredible and takes it over the top. Normally I don't care for chicken thighs bc of the texture but this dish was an exception- the texture was perfect. And their noodles are some of the best I've had in the area. This was my fave dish of the meal! The Style Steak was my second fave - it's a hearty plate of giant beef ribs. The meat is so tender it just falls right off the bone and it's covered in fresh herbs, spices, and finely chopped onions/peppers/onions etc - it was so flavorful. Also highly recommend this dish. We tried two of their lamb dishes - the skewers/kebabs and the hand-cut "steamed" lamb. I'm also not typically a fan of lamb, especially bc it can be quite "gamey" but their lamb dishes have won me over! The meat is tender, juciy, and had no gamey taste to it at all - just lovely! Their homemade Naan bread is not your typical Naan bread - it's quite dense and comes in thick patties but it's so perfect for dipping in their sauces - which adds another level of flavor to it - flawless combo. I recommend using it to dip in your saucy dishes bc I think it would be a bit dry by itself. Their Dry Pot Cauliflower was unique and I absolutely loved it - had a great flavor and was my third fave dish of the day. The fried lettuce dish was my least fave - the garlic sauce is wonderful but I just couldn't wrap my head around the warm, wilted lettuce - lettuce is a cold salad component to me lol. Cabbage would've been a much better veggie for this imo. The rest of our party loved it so this is just a personal preference thingy. They have indoor and outdoor seating - but the outdoor seating doesn't look like it has much shade so be aware. The vibes inside are fun and also unique - it's like Asian market meets Turkish style restaurant - very chic and entertaining- we thoroughly enjoyed our leisurely meal. Staff were beyond attentive and welcoming. They were very proactive and did everything they could to make sure we enjoyed our experience. Prices are what you'd expect for the area but the portions are so generous I'd say prices are great for what you get. They're located in a large, busy plaza - there's lots of parking but it fills up. They weren't busy at all when we first arrived around 11am on a Saturday but it was chaos when we left so get there early. Our friends introduced us to this place and I'm so glad they did - bc it's marketed as a "Chinese halal" spot, I'm not sure it would've ever gotten on our radar otherwise lol. FINALLY had the chance to try Ma's Kitchen. I'll be honest, I was surprised (in a good way) right after walking into the restaurant. The decor and ambience are impeccable and looks remarkedly fancier than anything I'd expect on good ol' Colima Road. It looks like it'd be a 2 story restaurant from the outside, but it actually has a high ceiling with fancy lighting and decor all around. They have karaoke and I think?? live music too as I saw some individuals tuning their guitars, looking like they were ready to go on stage. There's cultural decor and pieces all over and that definitely detracts from the random shopping cart in the back near the restrooms (I kid but I thought it was inherently hilarious). This is a halal Chinese restaurant and quite unique in what their menu offers I must say. They do have a paper menu, but all ordering happens through a QR code on the table via Chowbus. Keep your eye out for some funny direct translations as well. You scan the QR code, send the order to the kitchen, it will let you know that the kitchen has received your order and that it's on its way. You can add more stuff through the ordering interface and call over a worker and close the bill when you are ready. It did get a bit busier later so I had to raise my hand to flag down a waitress to get our check and pay. For our dinner we got the: 1) House Shredded Potatoes: -It's quick fried shredded potatoes with pepper and I think some sesame oil/onion sauce? Not too sure but it's a nice refreshing cold dish and a different way to enjoy some starchy potatoes. 2) Samsa (2 pieces): -They're like Hot Pockets/empanadas but with a softer, doughy exterior. Inside there's piping hot ground lamb with diced onions, black pepper, and "Silk Road spices". -I had to Google what the Silk Road spices were and it's clove, ginger, turmeric, nutmeg, frankincense, black pepper, cinnamon, and saffron. -Unsure if that's ALL in this little pocket of yumminess but I can say that the insides were moist, hot, and overall a delicious snack dish. 3) Lamb Kebab (3 skewers): -They're presented on 3 decently long metal skewers (stakes lol) and they have hefty chunks of lamb on them, not like the tiny morsels that I'm used to getting at a night market. -You have the option of choosing the spicy level of the kebab and we got the mild spicy which still had a decent initial kick and lingering heat that went so deliciously well with the cumin. -All of us loved this and if we were hungrier we could have easily ordered another round. 4) Lamb Siumai (6 pieces): -I love dumplings but I have NEVER had lamb siumai before so this was another must get and this did take the longest to get to our table, but they're super fresh and intensely hot from being just steamed in the kitchen. -The there was a good sized portion of lamb "ball" inside mixed in with some veggies, green onions, ginger, and garlic. -The siumai skin is a bit chewier than what I'm used to but good nontheless. -Meat was juicy and the siumai was made doubly delicious with the chili oil, soy sauce, and vinegar provided at the table. This was only a light meal, but I definitely want to come back to get more of the lamb siumai and lamb kebabs, as well as try more of their menu (especially their hand pulled noodles!). read more

Halal you might be wondering what that means and it just means that the food here is served with different requirements for the meat that is served to you. Also, note that there are no pork dishes here which I am in love with. Every dish we ordered was unique and different. The service was the worst I have ever received. Because of the service ii lost my appetite. I went here with my partner (who is asian), and I noticed from the beginning that all the attention went to him. As I ordered the female waitress only responded to him. The proteins came out out within 15 mins., five minutes later the appetizer came (spring rolls - cold inside, did not taste home made). Then a group of Chinese young men came in and all the attention went to them. They ordered and got their order with 5-10 mins. We were still waiting for our last order of rice. 10 mins later she came with the rice, with a stone look on her face. I completely lost my appetite and just stopped eating, the rice smelled burnt, and I did not feel comfortable. We were there on Thursday afternoon, as we were leaving there were two people sitting by the entrance who looked like they were in charge and said thank you for coming. They don't mess around, we got the "low spice" and it had a good kick to it. Didn't take a picture but their lamb skewers were really good too. Would recommend getting the extra spicy on that, the spice level caters to the dish so the extra spicy wasn't too bad on that skewers. Their noodles are AMAZING. I didn't think this place would serve halal food but was delighted when I saw "halal" on the restaurant description. Friends of our recommended we try this place for dinner on a Monday night. We got there at 6pm and was promptly seated. We like the decor they have. This place is halal. We ordered tea and they don't have it. Long story short , we later talk to the owner at the end of our meal and they are still in the soft opening and they are not serving all the items on the menu yet. She showed us a special teapot that she has on back order and once it arrives she will start serving the tea. She said it's not going to be your typical tea and it's going to have milk and salt. This was one of the least favorite dish for the night 3/5 Egg fried rice - this was surprising really good and complimented well with the rest of the dishes 5/5 Tomato egg drop soup - this had a very simple taste and was very enjoyable - 4/5 Beef tripe in chilli oil - this was one of our favorite dishes. I am not a big fan of tripe but love this. As you chew it and the spicy sauce blend in, it's amazing. 5/5 Stir fried eggplant with chilli pepper - this was another surprisingly good dish. We went through this one really quick given it was one of the last dishes that came 5/5 House special big plate chicken - this was recommended by the waiter. We ordered the small and it was huge. It came with a side of noodles that can put into the main dish. The sauce tasted good but I did not enjoy all the bones in the chicken pieces. The chicken was cut into tiny pieces which had bones. Makes it a little challenging to eat it. 4/5 Xiao Long Bao - this was our favorite and we got 2 orders of this. First time trying Xin Jiang cuisine and it was interesting. We showed up at 11am on a Saturday and we were the first ones there. First off the staff was super friendly and helpful. She recommended several non spicy entrees as it was our first time and also we don't eat spicy foods. The ambiance is definitely a fusion of trendiness and Xin Jiang tradition. There are a number of tapestries depicting Xin Jiang merry traditional dances. We ordered the samosas, the xiao mai, the fried meat hand pulled noodle, the naan, and the lamb ribs. All the meat in our order was lamb. Also got the Xin Jiang yogurt. The samosas were hot but one of the two pieces was pretty deformed. The filling as tasty. The Xiao Mai was good too, came out piping hot. There were only 6 pieces. They said they hand wrapped themselves. The fried meat noodles had a tomato based sauce. We asked for non spicy and they nicely accommodated that. It was tasty and refreshing because it was a bit sour. The wood ear fungus had a really nice texture. We ordered the naan because a lot of reviews said it was good but I would have to disagree. It was pretty dry and bland. I'm know naan like Indian naan doesn't have much taste because it's eaten with other entrees. But this naan here was so dry eating it with the lamb ribs didn't help. We got the grilled lamb ribs instead of the steamed ones because the waitress said it tasted better. We ordered the small one and it came with 5 pieces. First few bites it was good but it became too oily. I bit off a ton of fat. Lastly, to cleanse our palate we ordered the yogurt. It was upper tangy. It did feel quite refreshing especially after an oily meal. However, the presentation wasn't as nice as what they showed on screen on the TVs in the restaurant. Overall it was an interesting experience. Price wise I think some entrees were a bit pricey compared to the amount that was served. But if you never had Xin Jiang foods and are in the area, give it a try! read more

The Siomai is not freshly made and it tastes like prepared food that you can buy in market. Lamb kebab is in the same bad condition as the Siomai. The waitress recommended Baked lamb bun to us and she stressed that they just came out of the oven. However, we finished all the dishes and were just about to pay our bill, and we told her that we didn't want the buns any more because we had finished. After one minutes, she came back with the buns. What can I say Noodles and vegetables are excellent. Lamb chops, chicken and rice with lamb are ok. Fried beef and fried rice are not recommended. read more

My first time trying Xinjiang cuisine, so I had no other restaurant to compare it with, and I ended up drinking a lot of water after the meal. The food didn't taste salty, maybe there was a lot of msg? I'm not sure, but if you are allergic to msg, please remember to ask them before placing the order. We had 大盘鸡，羊肉串，酸奶， and another noodle dish which was recommended to us as the best seller that every table would have. 羊肉串was pretty good. The yogurt tasted like the ones you can get at a lot of places. The chicken noodles and the other noodle dishes tasted like some of the dishes from southern Chinese cuisine. However, I highly recommend trying their noodles, as there are different noodle sizes, and very chewy, which is nice! The food here is delicious and packed with flavor. Food was out within 10 minutes of ordering. We didn't have to wait long at all for the food to come out. We ordered the Hand Pulled Noodles, Mongolian Beef, Fried Rice, and String Beans with Beef. All the dishes tasted amazing. Knocking off 2 stars since it got rather uncomfortable in the restaurant. The windows did not have any shades and the sun was beating down on the restaurant and the glare from the sun kept interrupting our conversations. The temperature in the restaurant reached 83 degrees and the AC wasn't turned on. I would return and order take out but I wouldn't return as a dine in customer. read more

Party of four went to Ma's kitchen for a Sunday lunch. The restaurant is spacious, modern, and welcoming vibe. We are immediately welcome and seated as there are plenty of table's available. The waitress tries to take our orders right away, but she didn't ask if we needed water. Service is adequate, waitress is friendly, but it's lacking. Other people have to help. As for food, we order lots for two adults and two kids. Lamb leg polov: lamb chop rice: lamb is tasty but unfortunately the smell in rice is strong my kids don't eat them and I finish it alone. TFried beef dumplings, comes out as one piece and you have to break them. Beef inside smells strong, and kids and other adult only tried one and I finish the rest. The highlight of this restaurant is the handmade noodles! We order the tradition hand-pulled langman. Sauce is good and we added more noodles because it tastes so good like 5 stars! Samsa is grilled lamb wrap, lamb is too strong I finished most of them. Adult only try a piece. Overall service is 3 ; the food is definitely unique and acquired taste. read more

Ma's Kitchen is a a hidden gem in Rowland Heights. They specialize in Chinese halal food, specifically authentic Xinjiang cuisine. They use tons of spices to flavor their food and it's amazing! Some of my favorite items were the chicken plate with the freshly hand-pulled noodles, the lamb siumai, and the lamb kebabs. Definitely a different flavors, but not gamey at all! I'd lamb isn't for you, you can also substitute in with beef. The restaurant itself is huge and beautifully decorated. Customer service is top tier as well. Drive by since it is next to a supermarket and decided to try this place. They are famous foods are delicious and the service was good. I don't mind coming back again. Got more foods to try.
