Tl;dr: I would highly recommend this place for it's quality and value. In fact, I believe the bowl I had was under undervalued. The atmosphere here is interesting. It has a small and playful cafe vibe with colorful decorations throughout. It's not somewhere you would expect an omakase experience or even their premium bowls, but I personally enjoyed it. The service was great. It seems like the place is family-run, and the waiter was asking me and the other customers how's their food and making small talk to ensure we were having a good time. He also was taking notes on any constructive criticism mentioned. As for my meal, I got the premium salmon and sea urchin bowl. I was skeptical about the quality of my food due to how seemingly affordable my meal was ($24.99 for high quality uni and salmon seems underpriced). When I got my food, I got complementary miso soup and salad (dine-in only), and I was surprised by the masago and black caviar on top. Salad, 3/5: Nothing special. Store bought ranch dressing. But the salad is appreciated for balancing out the richness of the bowl. Soup, 2.5/5: Very light flavor for miso soup. Some seaweed inside as well. Nothing special. Bowl, 4.5/5: The bowl comes with seasoned rice, avocado, masago, uni, fresh salmon, black caviar, and tartar sauce. Asides from the large amount of tartar sauce, the bowl looks beautiful. In terms of value, this bowl was topped with generous amount of avocado and beautiful pieces of uni. The seafood quality was higher than what the price would suggest. The salmon was flavorful and fatty and without leaving a fishy aftertaste. The uni was the star of the show; it was rich, creamy, and sweet. I would order this bowl again for just the uni. In combination of all the toppings, the bowl was rich and delicious. The bowl isn't a perfect score since I do think the tartar sauce is overkill and made the bowl too rich and heavy. I look forward to coming back and trying the turf side of their menu or bringing a friend and trying the omakases.
Picnic Time Cafe had been on my bookmarks for sometime now. I had some time to grab a quick bite during a weekday while on a work break. The location has a handful of tables for seating and the customer service was fine. You can probably have about 12-15 guests max inside the restaurant. Nonetheless, the location is pretty cool with casual decor and a wall for some photo ops. However, the menu is where the $$ is at. They offer a wide selection of sushi rolls, Musubis, Yubus, nigiri and bento boxes I believe. The menu is pretty affordable overall. The Yubu are $5 each. The sushi/nigiri range from $1-2 each for 1 pc. THAT IS A GREAT DEAL! I ended up trying two Yubu and 2 pcs of sushi since I was limited on time. I got the Bulgogi and seared salmon Yubu and 2 salmon avocado sushi. The food tasted good overall. I enjoyed the Yubu the most and enjoyed not having to break the bank for some sushi. A solid spot for lunch in my book. I'd totally come by again and recommend others to give it a try. Be sure to check the hours I believe they close early at the moment. Thanks, Picnic Time Cafe!
The portion for the premium salmon chirashi bowl with uni is really small with two tiny uni and even tinier shrimps that is the size of pinky of small children. For $ 35+ that is pretty outrageous.
What a fun restaurant. I love the inari sushi options. I got the 4 inari which comes with a drink. Perfect for lunch. I asked which ones are popular and I went with the recommended but seriously they are all amazing so you can't go wrong. If you're in the neighborhood make sure you stop by and check them out.
I honestly don't understand where all the high ratings are coming from. The $17.99 beef and unagi bowl was excessively greasy. The bottom half of the bowl was literally swimming in oil, to the point where the rice was completely inedible. The bowl itself was also very small, with only a few thin slices of beef. The spam musubi was a joke. Never have I seen a musubi with spam sliced this thin... practically paper-thin. The portion was so disproportionate it was funny-looking. The most concerning item was the California roll. It had a strong fishy odor, which makes no sense given that it uses imitation crab. This raises serious questions about ingredient handling. I've never had a California roll taste unpleasantly fishy before, it was shocking. 【It made me question whether it was spoiled or not.】 The salad was fine. The miso soup was not. The salmon nigiri was mediocre, with very small portions, though that part is at least understandable given the low price. Overall this was bad value for the money... and the experience left me concerned.
Wasn't sure what to expect walking into this empty restaurant but I'm glad I checked it out. They have really cool choices/variants for inari. Like at least 12 I think. It's a lil pricey but they are so good. Id def recommend a combo so you save a few bux and you get a free drink. I wasn't expecting too much from the drink but honestly it was really good. The Aurora has a nice touch of honey dew and at 50% sweetness I could taste the tea. I think next time I'd still opt to go lower to 25% sweet maybe. They have other things on the menu like beef bowls, curry, and katsu etc. as well as even sushi rolls. Overall, really enjoyed my experience and will def be back to try the rest of the inaris!
This small cafe is a great place to go if you're interested in small bites and/or a moderate meal. On first impression, this hub feels relaxing with the decor and multiple plants around you. It was quiet when I went and the staff were very friendly. I tried their Tropical fruit tea, chicken cutlet with Japanese curry, and eel yubu. The tropical fruit tea was pleasantly refreshing with real fruit and chia seeds in the drink. It was a little sweet, so I definitely recommend decreasing the sugar if you prefer your drinks less sweet The chicken curry cutlet was great as well! The katsu was perfectly fried with a nice crunchy texture on the outside. The only complaint I have with this dish is that there was too little curry. I was disappointed that there was only a small amount which was not enough to cover the rice and cutlet. Finally, I had the unagi yubu, which tasted pretty standard. The eel was nicely cooked and the presentation was cute! Overall, I think this hub is a nice place to try, and I may return again to try their other dishes!
Great mom and pop shop, there's only a few inari places in Southern California. Great takeout place, inside their shop is actually pretty small so limited seating to dine in. Tip: If you make a $20+ purchase, you can get one stamp on their card. Once you receive 10 stamps in total, you are able to redeem $20 off the next time you visit. Parking: Plenty of parking spaces. Easy to find a space available. 3 Inari + 1 drink: You can order any of their boba drinks/ sparkling drinks. Matcha Mountain foam: Not a big fan of their matcha. The matcha color was more on the duller side. Lemon Tea: So good, I would highly recommend if you wanted a bubbly fruit juice with fruit jelly toppings. Masago: Loved this. I'm a big fan of popping tiny fish eggs and texture in my food. One of my favorites along with the salmon inari. Bulgogi: So soft, tender and juicy. I loved that the inari was packed with beef. Crab (imitation crab): Very fillingly, they pack it up in that soybean wrapper. Salmon: So good! Salmon was really buttery. I wish that the rice pops were a bit more crispy. Eel: A little bit sweeter compared to the others because the eel has Terayaki sauce so that made it sweeter.
We've visited Picnic Time Cafe three times so far--twice through their online ordering system, and once dining in. Each time, the food was fresh and tasted just as good as the last, which says a lot about how consistent they are. The concept of the place is unique and fun. It's like a picnic or bento-style setup, but the taste and presentation feel elevated, like something you'd get at a fancy Korean or Japanese restaurant. Our favorite is the Picnic Special Yubu/Inari Combo Set. It's packed with so many options--unagi, avocado crab bomb, lemon pepper salmon, spicy tuna, massago, bulgogi, kimchi, seaweed/vegan mate, sweet corn--you honestly can't go wrong with any of them. We tried the 9-item set, which comes with two drinks for $40.99 if you order online. For the amount and quality of the food, it's totally worth it. I'm also obsessed with their cheese avocado smoothie. The first two times I had it, it was perfect, but the third time it tasted more like it had a green tea base. I'm not sure if they accidentally made something else for us, or tweaked the recipe, but it tasted great regardless, so I'm not complaining! When it comes to service, dining in feels a little more casual--kind of like a fast-food vibe--but they're still super thoughtful. On our third visit, we were waiting to pick up our order, and one of the staff gave my 3-year-old a bag of gummy bears. It was such a sweet gesture, and it worked like magic! My kid ended up eating way more of his unagi bowl because of the gummy bear reward system we came up with. It's these thoughtful gestures that make a place memorable. The restaurant itself has a lot of personality. There's a cool popcorn machine, cute decor all around, and walls that are perfect for TikTok videos or photos. I also found out they have a stamp card: for every $20 you spend, you get a stamp, and after 10 stamps, you get $20 back. That's a nice little bonus for regulars. We really love this place and will definitely keep coming back. The food is great, the atmosphere is fun, and they've been nothing but kind every time we've visited.
Small little local eatery, take out joint, located in a small mall. It really is a hole in the wall type of place that is easy to miss. The key is to not miss it, because you would definitely be missing out. On the surface this place looks like those 1990s early 2000s take out sushi, teriyaki places, that really is instead an epic high quality eatery. Every type of Inari here has a very complex taste and the sum of all parts equals into an amazing flavor bomb. Overall please come so you don't miss out. Can't go wrong with anything on the menu.
Picnic Time Cafe is located in Walnut Hills Village Inc, which is a great location.It is across from Mt.Sac College. The yubu shop is located on the back of the Plaza near Starbucks. I was so excited to try their fresh yubu because it is one of my favorite food. The restaurant owner / the chef prepared the order, then I believe his son joined him later. He gave me their menu. He told me about the offer they had, which was $22..99 for four yubu and a drink. It was a good deal for sure. The decor was cozy and relaxing. There were indoor seating. After I read the menu, I decided to order the following; -2 seared Salmon -2 lemon pepper salmon -2 eel -2 spicy tuna For the drinks, I got; -Cheese Mango Smoothie -Cheese Strawberry Smoothie I placed my order to go. They put my order in two boxes.They also add two pairs of gloves with the order, which was very thoughtful. I was also impressed by the way they decorate each type of yubu. Honestly, I felt they are just pieces of art. The taste was indescribable! The Best yubu I have ever tried. The Tofu pouch was thin, fresh and so tasty. The filling of sushi rice and the different types of protein were very flavorful and fresh. I enjoyed every bite. I loved all the yubu I got equally. The Cheese mango smoothie and the Cheese Strawberry Smoothie were light and refreshing. The staff were very sweet and friendly. For sure, I will be back very soon.
Very cute cafe with specialty in inari of various different flavors. We tried various flavors, avocado crab bomb, masago ship, grilled bulgogi, and spicy tuna. The masago ship was a little on the salty side, but everything else was spot one. We also tried the tea and drinks, but I would just stick with the inari. They're not very big so I think 2 to 3 will do for a meal. They're also very cute to give you a plastic glove to eat it so you won't make a mess.

Had this place bookmarked for a while and was finally able to give it a try today. It wasn't very busy, and they did have a new menu up. I came came especially for the inari. I got the 4 inari and 1 drink combo which came out to 22.97. I got the galaxy drink which was very cool looking, and it tasted pretty refreshing. The chia seeds gave it a nice crunch. For the inaris, I tried the salmon, tuna, masago and eel. Masago was a miss. It was overly salty (I know that it should be, but didn't work well). The tuna was my favorite. It was smooth like butter and the sweetness from the rice and wrap helped balance it out. The eel had a nice smoky flavor which was excellent. The salmon was another good one. The mayo sauce they used worked well. Overall, a good place to check out if you're in the area. read more

I walked past this place once before but didn't go in because it gave me more of a fast‑food vibe. Later, I saw people in the community recommending it, so I decided to give it a try today--and unfortunately, I was quite disappointed. It feels very overrated. I initially wanted to order the Surf & Turf set for two. The staff member told me they couldn't sell it because the wagyu beef wasn't available. I asked if I could simply replace the beef bowl with another available bowl, but she said no because it was a combo. I don't understand why substitutions aren't allowed, especially when their own ingredients are unavailable. Instead, she tried to upsell us on a more expensive set that only came with different sushi. We ended up ordering their well‑known salmon and uni bowl. The portion was small, with more than half the bowl filled with rice. The uni was just two small pieces, and overall the bowl didn't feel special in any way. Service was also disappointing. We waited a long time to place our order and to get anyone's attention. They didn't seem very professional...one customer paid with cash, and the staff didn't have change. Several customers had to be told their items weren't available after they ordered. Sadly, I won't be coming back. The Fu Restaurant next door offers much better service and food. read more

It was my first time trying Korean Inari and searched Yelp and found a restaurant. Once I stepped into the restaurant and was greeted by a sweet lady. The boss was very nice, too! They helped me to pick what I could order on my veg day. The presentation of the go-to package was nice! And also they offer a glove for you to eat their yummy Inari. All 3 Inaris were tasted yummy! Found this somewhat new place on yelp and I'm so glad I got to try it! I ordered grilled salmon, spicy tuna, sweet corn, unagi, and bulgogi inaris. I loved the salmon and bulgogi the most and the rest were still amazing! I'd definitely come back and try the other inaris and their bowls. The place was small and clean. A few tables inside good for a quick bite. The food was brought out at a reasonable time. The people running the place was quick and friendly! I'd recommend this place for a quick filling snack. The inside is pretty small and they don't have ac so maybe not the best place to study during the hot summer. I got the taro milk tea and the tropical fruit tea. The boba was kind of hard so not the best texture and both drinks were not strong more on the bland side but still enjoyable! They currently have a deal where you can get a drink and inari for $8.99 i believe. The grilled salmon inari was very good!!!! This new spot near Mt. Sac popped up and instantly caught my eye since I hardly see any places with inari near Walnut, so I had to try it! Me and my friend tried their grilled salmon and spicy tuna inaris and their chicken karrage. Both inaris were super flavorful and refreshing! They were also pretty affordable and made for a good mid day snack. The chicken karrage was also surprisingly tasty. The outside was very crispy and the meat was juicy and tender. This cafe also sells boba which is pretty nice, but the food was definitely the star of the show. They also had some outdoor seating which made for a nice ambience. Definitely was worth checking out and will definitely be coming back here! read more

The portions are HUGE. The Inaris are so good and savory, we got the spicy tuna, seared salmon, eel, and crab meat. 2nd time here and they upgraded their menu since the 1st time here. They added rice bowls, sashimi, nigiri, and hand rolls. Definite will come back to try the rest of the menu. The dinning area was expanded too. Perfect for a Sunday afternoon date. read more

It was my first time here, and they really surprised me. Picnic special yubus are very delicious!! I have to say that it was a very unique, tasty dish. I ordered their special any 4 Yubu + Drink for $20.99. My favorite dishes are the eel, seared salmon and bulgogi. The drink I ordered was a tropical fruit tea. It comes with Oolong tea w/ chia seeds, crystal boba, mango, mint, blueberry, pineapple, lemon and strawberry. This place does not disappoint. I've been here the last 4 Fridays . They overstuff all their inari bombs/pockets and don't skimp out on the toppings/fish Best bang for your buck are the seared salmon, eel , masago and spicy tuna I'm pretty sure they put like $4 worth of masago (if you bought it from the market) in a $5 pocket ... It's a cute place with a theme of outdoors with plenty of indoor seating. They also have 2 picnic style tables outside. I've come for the drinks before and they were tasty. My daughters like the drinks that look like rainbow. read more

We absolutely love this cute little place. Food was very fresh and delicious, especially the sushi and nigiri. We got the Double Fish roll, Black Dragon roll, Super California roll, and Premium nigiri. The sushi and nigiri really taste so fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. I was really so surprised that the food is very top quality with the cheap price. The server and sushi chef were friendly and the atmosphere was perfect for the dining experience. Definitely a good to-go spot for sushi lovers, and will recommend to all of my friends. BTW, their boba milk/fruit tea is also amazing!!!! read more
