#40. Pho with Meatballs (Phở Bò Vien)
    Tom C.

Driving into this parking lot feels haunted. Not in a fun, Scooby-Doo way -- more like a tumbleweed just made eye contact with you kind of way. There's still a handful of businesses open, but the vibe is somewhere between retail afterlife and strip mall purgatory. Cracking open the restaurant doors didn't change the mood much -- it was completely empty inside. I swear I heard the lonesome cry of a distant coyote echoing through the linoleum. The interior is simple and functional. This is not a place that's trying to be cozy -- it's more like "we have chairs, you have food, let's not overcomplicate this." The service matches the aesthetic: not unfriendly, just Darwinian. Like those animal kingdom moms who drop their babies and wish them luck. Once your food hits the table, you are on your own. National Geographic could film you trying to get a second napkin. Now, here's the twist: the food is actually good. The pho broth is richer and deeper than most, with a slow-simmered flavor that tastes like someone back there genuinely cares. The veggies and sides are fresh and crisp, and there's a wide range of choices for both pho and other Vietnamese dishes. Everyone at our table enjoyed their meals. Overall: food, great. Vibe, bleak. Perfect for takeout, or for when you want to eat something delicious while pondering the futility of existence. They're on DoorDash, Uber Eats, and Grubhub, so they've covered their bases -- and you can enjoy a decent bowl of pho without wondering if you're the last person alive on Earth.

Updated for 2026: The bowls of Pho is decently priced. That with the 20% off all day for dine in and take out makes it better. Still complaining.about the appetizers because again, the pork and shrimp spring rolls are pricey. Pricing 2 for 11.50, thats 5.75 a piece. With the 20% discount, drops it to about 4.50 a piece or 9.30 total. Spring rolls should NOT cost that much. There are spots near by that sells FOUR for about 10 bucks. The inside was slow but the service was good. I sign that I use to judge the service is if they are attentive of refilling your water, which they do. The inside has a good amount of tables, albeit one is used to refill condiment jars and sauce bottles. But what pho spot doesn't do that? Overall, a good experience and food from a spot thats been there for a while now. Would be better if the appetizers were priced like appetizers.

Grew up eating here, and the quality is just as good as I remember it. It's a great place to stop by for a quick bowl of hot pho and catch up with you friends. I usually get the brisket and rare steak, large. The portion size is good. I also like getting the Thai tea occasionally which also is great. The service is fast and you'll get your pho almost instantly. Looking forward to stopping by more since I'm back in the area

We must have come on an off day. On the day we came, the service was off, and the food was just okay. The waiter couldn't get our order correct. We ordered eggrolls, chicken stir fry with butter rice, and short rib with noodles. He had to repeat the order multiple times but in the end he still messed up the orders because both entrees came with plain white rice. He quickly fixed the dishes without much of a sorry. The food was just okay. The egg roll filling was not memorable and on the blander side. The chicken tasted old. The short rib meat also tasted old. We weren't huge fans of the quality of food. Lastly the credit card machine didn't work so they asked for cash or venmo. I'm not sure if that was true, but regardless is highly inconvenient for patrons. We came here for convenience, but I don't intend to come back anytime soon as there are many other places for similar cuisine in the vicinity.

We love this place, it's so good and delicious. Full of flavor and spice. Service is fast and hospitable and it can be busy or calm at times. You just never know For my husband and myself for everything we got was $38 not including tip and we just got water. We always come here for good Pho

Pork cutlet with vermicelli noodle. 23 dollars for this plate. The one shrimp cake at the bottom was 5 dollars.

Came back recently during happy hour and we were very satisfied. Positives: -taste, the galbi with butter rice was very tasty with just the right amount of fat. My wife got a large bowl of pho and it tasted better this time. -value, with the 20% happy hour discount our pocket book felt better and it in turn made the food more satisfying. Overall 5/5, we will definitely come back again during happy hour and order the exact dishes haha

This is a solid Vietnamese restaurant. They have other good food besides pho. My go-to items are their #32 regular size Phở Dặc Biệt (special combination) and #2 Nem Nướng Cuốn (charbroiled pork patty rolls). It's easy to find at the corner of Golden Springs Dr and Diamond Bar Blvd. There's plenty of parking, just don't park in the spots reserved for the bank unless they're closed.

Quick seating, owners are very welcoming, great service! The food is hearty and flavorful, and the portions are big. My family loves going here

Used to always come here after school back when I was in middle school with my friends. Visited my hometown and decided to grab a bowl of pho. Sad to see this place empty used to be full after school hours, the pho broth is so nice and comforting. 20% off dine in, I urge everyone who wants to grab a soup to eat, come here!!! Support your local business, this place has been here for a long time and still this place always feels like home

As of the recent few years, the San Gabriel Valley has been a location for many up and coming Vietnamese restaurants. But with many of the newer places gaining the attention of people here on Yelp, many of the locations that have served the community for decades have fallen under the radar. Driving through the Diamond Bar area, Pho Souper Bowl has always been a place I've eyeballed as a potential place to try. So I finally decided to give them a go. I came in to the restaurant on a Sunday around 1:30PM. And to my surprise, there was not a single person eating inside. Although this was unexpected, I proceeded to sit in and take a look at the menu. Pho Souper Bowl had a large selection of beverages, pho bowls, vermicelli bowls, and rice plates. Furthermore, each dish ranged from $13-15 which leans cheaper than many other restaurants in the area. For this visit, I chose a Charbroiled Pork, Shrimp, and Eggroll Vermicelli Bowl which was $15.50 at the time of this review. As the bowl arrived at the table, I was happy to see a good quantity of ingredients inside. With two egg rolls, three pieces of shrimp on a skewer, and a generous serving of pork; as well as a medley of sliced cucumber, pickled carrots, and beansprouts, there was plenty to eat. So much so that if I was not hungry, the food could easily have lasted for two meals. With the ratio of protein to vegetable and rice noodle balanced at 50-50 for each, the $15.50 price tag was more than justified in the Diamond Bar area. Definitely good value for those who have larger appetites. Looking at the the taste of the food next, the quality was not bad! The vegetables were moist and fresh while the rice noodles were somewhat slippery. For what they are, they were done just fine. As for the egg rolls, the inside contained mostly meat which tasted a tad sweet. I found the exterior shell to be the defining ingredient as it was crispy and lightly salted. Moving to try the shrimp next, it leaned more on the dry side and did not have much moisture compared to the other ingredients in the bowl. However, the charred shrimp still had a light sweetness to it and paired well with the vegetables. The charbroiled pork also leaned more dry than what you might find in a typical vermicelli bowl. But nonetheless, it was sweet, rich, and sharp from the green onions on the top. Value is the name of the game at Pho Souper Bowl for sure. With a variety of dishes at a lower-than-average price point, the amount of food given in the bowl, and the taste of the ingredients inside, there really isn't too much to complain about. And with that, I'd argue my experience at Pho Souper Bowl is an easy 4/5. Yes, the food has its areas of improvement. Yes, the price is mid-pack in the Diamond Bar area. Yes, the restaurant could specialize instead of offering a wide selection. But for a Vietnamese restaurant that has been in the community for a long while, definitely don't sleep on Pho Souper Bowl. Good food for a good price!

It offers a generous portion of tender, juicy meat and springy, fresh noodles. "DELICIOUS!!" I arrived at No. 1 Noodle House (Rowland Heights) on Sunday (around 11AM). Parking is easy. The lot is big with many spots. Staff is very friendly and welcoming, but Staff spoke limited English. Fortunately, pointing at the menu was clear enough. The food took eight minutes and nine seconds. Fast time! As mentioned, the Beef Rib Noodle Soup ($16.50 - Mild) is wonderful! It arrived picturesque and delicious!! However, despite ordering "mild," the food has a very strong heat; I sweat nonstop as I ate. The broth is rich, savory, and spicy. The meat is tender, flavorful, and falls off the bone. And the noodles are hefty, soft, and springy. It's a wonderful, euphoric combination of flavors and textures. Concerning ambiance, No. 1 Noodle House (Rowland Heights) is surprisingly spacious with its tall ceiling and relatively clean surroundings. However, its walls and furniture look worn down with time. Some seats even had torn holes. Unfortunately, the music uses radio with constant commercials playing in the background. Fortunately, there's a gender neutral restroom in the back. Overall, I found culinary magic at No. 1 Noodle House (Rowland Heights). The food is fresh, generously portioned, and well-prepared. I left full with a bright smile. If you enjoy spicy beef noodle soup, this is a must-try! 5 out of 5!! "GO!!"

What I liked, soup base clear, had hints of Sand Ginger, Umami Bone Broth, hints of cinnamon, heavy parsley/ cilantro, fennel, star anise, black cardamom, white peppercorns, mmmm, I can taste the broth even now, 2 days after that meal, very distinct, and when paired with their in-house chilli oil, not the one on the table, the actual spicy one they exclusively keep inside the kitchen, you can taste the additional layers to the chilli oil and it just brings the entire LanZhou Noodles to a whole another level. The lamb Rou Jia Mou was really filling. I liked the quantity, not overtly big, not too greasy, and had just the right amount of protein to keep the dish an appetizer, as you await the main course. Pickedled Sweet Kimchi Cabbage was also very enjoyable, although I prefer the in house ones made at Yumi Time in City of Industry better crispiness to the bite in their version and more balanced taste. A solid four, because I'm biased. Having worked with two extremely talented masters in Phoenix Arizona, I've tasted what could be the best LanZhou Noodles and Best Xiao Long Bao any seasoned restaurant staff could ask for. My former colleague Hand Pulled Noodle Master chef Shuai used to head the reknown LanZhou Noodles place in Gaithersburg Maryland serving up all those Ambassadors, Lobbyists, DC Politicians, and when we were in Phoenix Arizona, along with Pastry / Flour Dim Sum Master Chef Sister Ying, we concocted probably the best Xiao Long Bao / Rou Jia Mou and LanZhou Hand Pulled Noodles to ever grace the lands of Arizona and in my opinion, was far superior than any other place in Los Angeles. But again that's just me. I'm biased and I've been blessed to sit down, and have worked with some of the best small kitchen crews and experience great staff meals. And this leads to me to my conclusion: Yes, I'm putting this restaurant officially on my #2 for Chinese Noodle Soups in LA. This place will from now on be in my casual rotation. A no frills, real, down to Earth Noodle Shop. Why I like it? Just the overall setting doesn't try too much. On the surface it looks really plain, boring, not much to expect. The price point for the delicious food is competitive. We got French-style filet mignon ($18.99), braised tofu in brown sauce ($14.99), chicken chow mein ($14.99), and a steamed rice noodle roll with barbecue pork ($5.99). A pot of rice was included in our meal. The steamed rice noodle roll with barbecue pork was a nice appetizer that arrived first. I enjoyed how the French-style filet mignon was garnished with Thai basil, black pepper, and ginger. The meat was flavorful and tender. The braised tofu in brown sauce was consistently hot on the inside. The delicious brown sauce soaked throughout the vegetables. The chicken chow mein didn't have a lot of sauce, but it was still delicious with a lot of meat included. Overall, it would be nice to visit again outside of a peak time because the food prices are competitive. The menu is expansive, and the breakfast selections look interesting. The atmosphere during the Sunday lunch peak time was consistently bustling. I think the restaurant started to play Chinese music loudly at random points so that people could finish dining more quickly.

Crisp on the outside (which I didn't even know was a thing for this dish), perfectly tender inside, and coated in a sauce that hits every pleasure center in my brain. I'd go back just for this dish. This and the Braised Eggplant with Green Beans. The Honey Walnut Shrimp was another win: crisp, light, and not cloyingly sweet. We also tried the Cauliflower Dry Pot, which was excellent, and overheard the table next to us raving about their Lamb Dry Pot.

They quickly bring the dishes out after you order and regularly check in on the table and refill water. The dishes here are very good. Some typical Asian dishes but also some different flavors/dishes from the common Asian restaurant. The popular dish seems to be the Hot Oil Noodles. We got it with tomatoes and egg and it was really good! Great flavor and i think the noodles and freshly cut. Everything we ordered had great flavor. Portion sizes are good and the pricing is fair.

From the moment you walk in, the atmosphere feels warm and welcoming--nothing overly fancy, just a cozy spot that lets the food speak for itself. The menu has a great variety, but what really stands out is how consistent and flavorful everything is. Each dish comes out fresh, hot, and packed with that classic home-style taste that's hard to find these days. The portions are generous, making it perfect whether you're dining solo or sharing family-style. Service is also a highlight--the staff is attentive, friendly, and makes you feel right at home without being overbearing. Overall, Chan Kee is one of those hidden gems you'll want to keep coming back to. Great food, solid portions, and a comfortable vibe--can't really ask for more.

To start off, there was only one person at the store and he was handling everything with zero time management skill. Pickup time continuously got delayed and I had to wait over 30 minutes at the store from the initial pickup time. Then the porridge, omg-- seriously what happened? It was so bland and looked as if they have poured water over some rice powder... like they don't care. As others have mentioned, this location really is not even worth a star.
