Love the traditional Chinese style menu and the pricing is very affordable especially the lunch special. $10 for entre, plus soup, and egg roll is a steal. Will be coming back her for sure. Came here for the first time for a relatives birthday. It is such a hole in the wall I can't believe I've never been here! The food was very well priced - ~$17.00 per person and includes soup of the day, rice, wonton and shrimp + an entree. I couldn't even finish my entree because of how big it was. The food was delicious and came out in quick time. At one point we did have to remind the owner that we were missing some egg rolls/wontons but I think it's because we had such a big party. I arrived at 2:57pm, scarcely in time to score their nifty lunch special- (lunch-portioned) entree plus your choice of rice, accompanied by soup, egg rolls + tempura shrimp...all for $12.95 ($2 less if you go with lo mein instead of rice). The egg flower soup was good, though I'm sure the stink eye stare I got from an elderly guest seated across from me was because I'd violated his sense of dining propriety by dousing my soup with soy sauce! The egg roll was piping hot with a pleasant crunchy exterior- ditto for the shrimp. The kung pao chicken was serviceably good, not the "Ivy League" of Kung pao dishes I've enjoyed through the years but did the job. The fried rice was, however, a wee bland. Served with no slivered scallions, fried egg or proteins. You can upgrade to its beefier cousin, but with the lunch special you get the basic version. My server Kloe was pleasant and her service was lightning-quick! No sooner had I consumed three spoonfuls of my soup and she'd materialized with my entree! She also kept my diet coke replenished. Since becoming vegan, we hadn't gone to Walnut Tree in ages. We used to go there all the time. I decided to check out their menu and they had a vegetarian menu. I ordered the Eggplant with Garlic Sauce, the Kung Pao Tofu, and the potato Salt and Pepper Potato Slices. I made sure to let them know I was vegan beforehand. Everything was great. I brought them to a birthday potluck and the potato slices were a hit. They were like thick potato chips, but crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. They were too spicy for me, lol. My favorite was the eggplant dish. Perfect with steamy white rice. The kung pao tofu was well-received too. This is a favorite place for our family. Good Cantonese style food -like when I was a kid. The best deal is the lunch special. If you can dine in, you get soup, and if it's the hot & sour soup - score! Theirs is legit. But we've ordered to go, too, and always enjoy it. Was in town and was recommended this place and stopped by to get some takeout for dinner. The place was empty except for an elderly couple dining in. My son and I ordered combination fried rice, egg drop soup, salt and pepper squid, and beef noodles. EVERYTHING tasted bland. The noodles barely had noodles, but LOTS of onions and bean sprouts. It's like they used the onions and bean sprout as fillers to replace the noodles. Our order didn't take long and we only waited for a little over 5 minutes. So I gave an extra star for that, but I'd rather have my food taste better and wait the extra minutes. The last time I purchased takeout from this restaurant was during COVID. Yesterday I ordered the braised green beans, orange chicken and the combination fried rice. It was delicious! The braised green beans were seasoned just right and cooked just right. The orange chicken was flavorful (better than I remember it) and the fried rice was good also. They've recently changed ownership but it's it's still the same due to new owners being relatives and using same recipes. Service is still wonderful since it's still family owned and run. New owners are friendly and knowledgeable. Quality of the food is the same, which is great! Good sized portions and flavors are tasty. We didn't want fast food Chinese so I found this local restaurant. Walked in and they don't greet you so we just sat anywhere. In retrospect, HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE. Ordered our food. While she is not taking orders she's cleaning and spraying things. Wouldn't wash her hands before touching plates. Instead just puts gloves on. Bad look. Food came out and Lady looked like she didn't want to be there. Instead of her asking if we needed anything she ignores us. I had to speak out loud to call her (several times). She never looked our way. Regarding hot sauces, soy sauce, napkins, etc. Tall buff Asian guy (working kitchen) kept walking out and would stare in our direction. We start eating. Steamed rice is hard as if it's old and/or from yesterdays batch. Steamed (chicken) dumplings had no taste. Bland chicken mix inside. Will not order dumplings again and will ask for fresh steamed rice next time. Other than that...Beef and broccoli was good. Orange chicken was good. Green tea went down good. Local hole-in-the-wall Chinese restaurant with generous lunch specials. They're open for takeout and delivery during coronavirus, which was great to know since my mom was craving hot and sour soup. We ordered over the phone and it took only ~15 minutes for the food to be ready. There's a small parking lot and they do take credit card. The lunch specials are a really good deal, as they are very generous with the portion size and they have a lot of options. They come with fried or white rice, a veggie egg roll, and a cracker. The salt and pepper pork chop is on the saltier side, and the texture is similar to Taiwanese popcorn chicken. The chicken lo mein was a bit bland but the texture of the noodles was nice and chewy. The cashew chicken was my favorite, and was still good the next day when we had the leftovers. 3 lunch specials and one hot and sour soup came out to be $31 so it's very friendly on the wallet. read more
