We went out to celebrate our 2nd year anniversary and totally found this place by accident, and it was a blessing of an accident because we loved it!! We had the amazing Bacon which was our favorite item! The fries were delicious, the oysters Rockefeller and the roasted bone marrow were delightful. There was salt on the back of the plate for the bone marrow but we only noticed it after we ate half of it so make sure you add a strong sprinkle of the salt first before putting it on the crustinis. The service was good too, Pablo was the bartender; we enjoyed dinner at the bar top. The location was very busy on a Thursday evening around 7:30pm and so that's why we chose the bar top because it's a bit intimidating when you first walk in because it's one large room. We have been customers at the Meat Cellar for many years with no complaints. Probably spent hundreds if not thousands of dollars here. Went on Mother's Day, the whole family and I ordered the salmon (I usually have a steak) and it was so mushy and didn't taste very good. The potatoes were pretty bad as well. I only ate a couple of bites and told the server I couldn't eat it, that I didn't like it and all I got was "oh, I'm sorry ". It was a bit upsetting that my Mother's Day meal was not good!! But the 4% credit card fee is where it loses me. On a $265 subtotal, that added $11.67 just for using a card. I understand processing fees exist, but 4% feels high and, more importantly, it scales with the bill -- so the more you spend, the more you get hit. At that level, it feels less like cost recovery and more like an added charge. I'd much rather see that baked into menu prices or even a small flat fee -- it would come across a lot better. We ordered the lemon drop and mai tai off the Happy Hour menu and we didn't love either of them. My husband then ended up getting an Old Fashioned which he loved. We also got the fried pickles (which we loved) and truffle fries (they were heavy and a bit greasy). From the regular dinner menu we had the Caesar Salad, which was the best Caesar we have ever had. I think they were a little over enthusiastic with the charring though, which made it a little dry on the surface. It was served on a bed of fries which were quite greasy but I'm not fussy with fries. They serve merely as a vessel for ketchup, and these were thick hearty fries with plenty for ketchup to hold on to. The beef rib poutine was rather salty. The beef was very tender though. We ordered an appetizer which was eventually served WITH our meal. Drink orders took a long time to arrive. We sat at around 6pm and left at 8pm. 2 hours for 3 people seems a long time. We saw other larger parties being served before us and at a much faster pace and seemed to get more attention throughout their stay. We went to dinner here on Saturday night and due to an unforeseen circumstance in the kitchen, things were a bit slow. HOWEVER, our server Chelsea was awesome, as was Julia. Yes it took a bit longer to get our food, but the most important thing is that no one was hurt in the kitchen. Everyone was doing the best that they could and patrons must remember that the servers and staff are human beings and hey, sometimes things happen that are out of everyone's control.
