First time was a charm. Small but very good food today. Had the chilaquiles with 2 eggs. Yes you have to pay extra for eggs and or meats but was worth it. The cafe de la olla was very delicious. I have to say it beat my best from Guanajuato It was very tasty and did not require me putting any cream. The carne asada taco had a very good charcoal taste with good meat. Reminded me of the days I use to go to East LA with my dad and enjoy old school carne asada tacos. Many places don't make them like they used to but this place definitely did! Their Tres Leches was to due for... and a must try. Service was great and it wasn't even busy at the time I went. Restaurant is very clean and they have restrooms. Overall price was reasonable even though I have refrained from LA County establishments due to tax increases. But wasn't the case today. They have parking in front and in rear. I recently took my family to this cute spot located in downtown Claremont and was pleasantly surprised. We tried several of their dishes, chilaquiles with carne asada, asada quesadilla, cochinita pibil taco, carnitas taco, and tres leches cake. Everything had great flavor, the cochinita pibil taco was so juicy the tortilla stood no chance. They don't have a kids menu so you can mix and match the tacos which are only about $5 each. They do have agua Frescas and I was able to try their strawberry lemonade, which had just the right amount of sweetness. Now the Tres leches cake had no chance wth my girls. Just a great desert and a must try, so leave some room. They have an outdoor patio area but was closed during our visit. The waitress we had was very sweet but could tell they were understaffed and so took about 15 mins before we were greeted to order drinks. We then asked if we could sit in the totally empty patio and 2nd RUDE and non-sensical reply: "No, we only have tables for 4 on the patio" What? how is this an issue?. What is wrong with two people sitting at a table for four if there is no one on the patio and no one waiting, and why not have a table for two outside if your rules are this stupid. We have eaten here once before and the food was good, although portions are very small and pricey. We thought we give this place a 2nd try, but the rudeness and total lack of accommodation left us bewildered and frustrated. The rude lady didn't care that we walked out, so we left and had a nice breakfast at Crepes De Paris. Stay away from this place. It won't be around much longer anyway. The carne con chile is as authentic as it gets, not the Americanized Mexican food you'll find at many other places around Claremont. This is the real deal. And the salsas? Absolutely amazing! Every one is delicious, but that orange salsa is hands down my favorite. I also can't forget the iced café de la olla... WOW. This is our 2nd time here and the food was just as delicious as the first time. Although, the restaurant is small, it is bright and clean inside. We had to wait about 10 mins to be seated and were helped within a few minutes. The waitresses are always friendly. The shrimp tacos is my favorite! The queca taco is unique and so tasty. We came here when it just opened and had cafe de olla and tres leches cake and that was amazing! Dense moist cake not too sweet and the cafe de olla was perfect. Today we came for lunch and was still able to order breakfast. This time we sat outside in the back in their little patio area and it was very cute and private. I had the breakfast machaca and the eggs to meat ratio was just right. The meat was tender and flavorful and the beans were delicious. My friend wanted mole chilaquiles and said the flavors were so authentic and tasted homemade. Our other friend had the cochinita pibil. Our waitress was kind enough to let us know that they cook it fresh daily and it needed another 15min it's and if we were ok to wait. It was well worth the wait. Our friend said it was super flavorful and the meat was so tender it was perfect for her. My husband liked his fajitas but was thrown off with the cheese on top. Food is served on a plastic plate that has been run through the microwave so many times that it's warped and rotates as you try to cut your food with a butter knife. Stumbled across this place while on my walk at the village. Super cute little restaurant. Clean, pretty and cozy. The staff are all very friendly. Oh boy. Please do yourself a favor and do not, for the love of all things holy, order the fajitas to go. First of all, they're not very good. They are very salty. The chicken is overcooked and the vegetables are undercooked. It doesn't come with sour cream or anything which would've helped balance out the heavy hand on salt. Most importantly - what you will carry out is a bowl of soup. There's so much liquid in this that as soon as I set the bag down, flat, on the front seat of my car brown liquid started to pool on the bottom. I had to hold the bag out of the window as I drove to my destination so it wouldn't get all over my car. When I got to where I was going I was stunned that when I opened the container with fajita mix of chicken and vegetables it was still full of liquid, and that what had spelled into the bag was only about a third of the liquid in the box. A total complete mess. I will certainly never order takeout from here again, but I don't know that I'd ever eat here again either. One and done. Ordered two entrees: asada plate and chicken mole. My asada plate came first. My husband said start. Beans and rice were lukewarm and asada was salty and very tough. No steak knife. The chicken mole was nowhere to be seen. After five minutes, the server came by and said it won't be long. Another five minutes...I'm eating quite slowly (wasn't easy cutting the meat anyway). I'm half done with my asada and server brings corn tortillas and still no mole. They have been open long enough to figure out service order. The place had only two other tables filled while we were there. Several other reviews have commented on this lack of attention to detail. (Which I read after we were there) Finally the mole comes. It looks promising but again, lukewarm rice and beans. The mole was just not well made. Mole poblano is supposed to be more chocolatey and sweet with only subtle spice. This one was none of the above. It was mouth burning, hard hitting spice with a metallic edge to it. I had half of my piece of asada left which I made my husband eat because he is too nice to say anything. Disappointing that the server brought the check, saw an entire serving of mole untouched minus two small bites and did not inquire. No one was blatantly rude - just not interested in serving. I wish there was some sort of indication that the spice comes with the food, and isn't really optional. But the thing that left me most disappointed was that my husband and I planned to share the chilequiles and ordered one plate, but when I said we both wanted it, the waitress misunderstood it to mean we each wanted our own. So she brought us two. So we waited for her to come back since we only wanted one. Instead of taking it back, she was defensive and left us with the food. The food is very rich in flavor and the portions are generous but not overwhelming. We loved the freshly fried chips with guacamole as a starter. I recommend the chicken enchiladas de mole-the sauce profile was nutty, smokey, a tiny hint of spicy and sweet dark chocolate. My niece had a flavorful carne asada. I must say, their rice and beans were also delicious. I recommend making a reservation in advance or getting on their waitlist. We arrived at 1:45pm for a late lunch and didn't get seated until 3pm. The service was very friendly but it definitely took some time to get seated. Once seated the food came out fairly quickly. It was my first time and next time I'll be arriving much earlier because they were out of so many things! This was definitely disappointing. They were out of all their aguas frescas, pollo en mole, and tres leches and it was only 3:00pm. I noticed some other Yelpers also mentioned this same issue in their reviews. But the food was so good that I do plan on giving this place a second visit. Here's a quick breakdown: Our first experience here, got there about 30 mins after opening on a Monday, no wait to be seated. 2-3 other tables already seated when we arrived. By the time we left every table was full. Ambiance is cute and pleasant. It's a small restaurant. Food: we got the Mole Poblano, and a pulpo and baja fish taco. The pulpo is delicious. Charred but not overcooked, good bite, would recommend. The fish taco was not standout but good. The mole was the star of the show with rich nutty flavor and good texture on top of juicy bone-in chicken thighs. Sides, (beans/rice) could stand a little more attention, but rounded out the plate nicely. I would highly recommend this dish. At $20 it's priced competitively with the other high-end Mexican places locally and definitely worthwhile. Amores is probably the best among the local scene for this dish. Service was good, I get the impression that the front of house is run by one person, but they are very attentive, and I don't think any table felt neglected or overlooked. No issues getting refills, etc. Kitchen service was not exactly fast, it took us about 30 minutes from the time we ordered to receive our first dishes. There are a few earlier reviews that highlight some specialty coffee drinks and things like that, which were not available when we went, which was a little bit of a disappointment.
