Pesto Pasta!

It was my first time dining in this past weekend & I must say the food was delicious! The customer service at this location was also pretty good! Very clean inside the restaurant & very cool vibes indoors & outdoors! Would totally recommend!

supremo omelette

I've been on a bit of a brunch binge lately (third week in a row lol) and stopped by here yesterday for a late-ish brunch and it was a great experience! Naturally my friend and I had to sit outside because come on, it's brunch and we live in California. Doing brunch indoors is okay, but it's just so much more enjoyable having brunch outside. Clearly the rest of the restaurant felt the same way since the inside was empty. Plus, their outdoor seating area is very spacious and nice! I ordered their Supremo omelette sans 'shrooms and my friend ordered the biscuits and gravy. For an app to share we ordered the "Cauliflower ceviche" which I thought was a little... interesting, but hey! I'm open to new things. The omelette was good for sure! Nothing that'll blow your socks off, but still good. The ingredients inside were all flavorful and cooked nicely. The menu did not mention anything about an arugula salad being included with it and unfortunately I don't really like arugula. The dressing they used was nice and light and a bit tangy. More importantly, the arugula was dressed perfectly which made eating the freshly-mowed-lawn tasting vegetable less difficult to eat since there was flavor to mask the taste. Plus, I didn't want to be wasteful and why not eat some greens for health's sake? Anyway, the cauliflower ceviche. It was interesting like I said, but honestly? It was actually really good. I could do without the tortilla chips to be honest. Just give me a big heaping pile of this "ceviche" and I'd gladly inhale the whole thing. I tried a few bites of the biscuits and gravy and it was delicious! You can really taste the aromatics from the sausage. The biscuits were dense and moist. No complaints here! And what is a brunch without a little booze? We ordered a couple espresso martinis and let me tell you. TomTom in WeHo has unfortunately set the bar at unrealistic levels. I have yet to discover a place that can make it anywhere near as good as TomTom's, but with that being said, the espresso martinis here are probably one of the better ones I've had! If you're a fan of espresso martinis, definitely get you one (or 3). Service was amazing! Our server was so nice and one of the guys who dropped off the food had a really nice tattoo piece on his arm. Turns out him and I went to the same tattoo artist! If you're looking for a brunch spot, you definitely cannot go wrong here! I love the atomic era furniture/decor, the outdoor seating area is very spacious and nice, the food is good, and the service is great. Will definitely be back at some point!

Prosciutto Sandwich $18

I visited Union on Yale for brunch and had a very disappointing experience. When I arrived, I waited about 15 minutes at the front with no staff greeting us. The restaurant was almost empty, so I wasn't sure if I should seat myself. Eventually, I had to look for a staff member to ask. After that, we waited another 10 minutes before finally being seated. I ordered the Standard Burger $22 and my friend ordered the Prosciutto Sandwich $18 . The burger was extremely plain, no vegetables, no sauce, nothing at all, just a burnt hamburger patty. The patty was very dry and rubbery, and I'm not exaggerating. The Prosciutto Sandwich was also not worth the price. Both dishes were very disappointing and felt overpriced for such mediocre food. Our waitress was nice, but the service was very slow. On a positive note, the outdoor seating area and the menu presentation were nice.

I really liked the outdoor seating and ambience of this place but the service was lacking. We were a table of 4 and our meals came out one by one with about 2-5 minutes between each meal coming out. We had to ask for salt and pepper and refills on water and coffee. Food was good but not excellent.

Eugene was great! But unfortunately the food was a bit lacking. It was just a bit underwhelming. It was first time being here and we felt overwhelmed by the options and wanted to know the staples but kind of left deflated. I have heard about this place and heard only good things, but might not try it again. The purple moon cheese is delicious and we found some in store to buy because we loved it so much. Suggestion: you guys should try to do a mix of the two non-alcoholic beverages because we spilt them and then pour them half and half into each other and it made a perfect combo! Too much Parmesan on the flatbread and the bread for the for the charcuterie has no structure so your accoutrements would just fall off. We were told we could have requested flatbread for the charcuterie but only at the end of our experience. We sat outside and we loved it!

So tonight's review isn't about the food , I mean we came unexpectedly nonetheless Stephanie at the door was extremely helpful and nice and accommodated us very quickly we got seated instantly ! So look the muscles were a 10/10 the artichoke dip was ehhh like 6/10 it was too cheesy for us the drinks 10/10 ! But again we didn't come for food just to eat some appetizers and grab a few drinks so this is more or less about the service the ladies and everyone there were wonderful everyone walking around with a smile on there face no bad vibes they were very attentive to all the guests so thank you guys tonight for the wonderful service I'll def be back to eat an actual meal next time ! Ohh I can't forget our Serve Jaclynn I hope I spelled your name right she was a 10/10 as well thank you !!

We've tried a few different items at The Union on Yale and overall it's been a really solid spot. They have both indoor and outdoor seating--indoor space is a bit limited, but since the place is pretty big overall, we've never had to wait more than 5-10 minutes. Service can vary--sometimes it's excellent, other times a bit spotty, especially when it gets busy. Food-wise, we've been happy! The spinach and artichoke dip is a favorite--we couldn't stop eating it. I had the roasted salmon with risotto once and now it's my go-to; absolutely delicious. Our toddler had the chicken fingers and fries and even those were great quality--crispy and juicy. My husband tried the steak frites and wasn't a fan; the cut was fatty and too chewy. Overall, a great casual spot we keep coming back to. Ideal for dinner with friends, date night, or family.

Pear and arugala salad

The outdoor patio is very cute with heat lamps. The portions are also huge for LA food and prices. We had eay too much food for 2. The Brussels sprouts were delicious, would love even more burrata on it. The brocollini was sweet with peppers to help balance it. The spinach dip was delicious and rich. The arugula salad was good too but would love some more pear on there! Jackie was an excellent server!

We were invited to a pre-wedding welcome dinner here last month. The outside patio was the perfect venue for a large group, service was excellent from beginning to end. We had cocktails/ beers before sitting down. The pre-ordered appetizers were mostly pretty good from two kids of pizzas to spinach dip, spicy cauliflower and brussel sprouts which was my favorite. Each person then ordered the individual main course, choices included salmon, Burger, pork chop, vegetarian, sausage pasta and chicken arugula salad. The pork chops were the standout; a thick slice perfectly tender and juicy. Other dishes were pretty decent as well. Don't remember what we had for dessert, everyone was very satisfied and happy. An excellent restaurant for small or large group, we'd recommend. We

We were invited to dine here as part of pretty wedding festivities. The place was busy. The menu was preset with choices by the bride and groom. All of the food was delicious! We really enjoyed the brussel sprouts, buffalo cauliflower and the hot artichoke dip. The pizzas were good, too! For our entrees we had the Salmon and Yellow Curry. Both were good

Union on Yale - A Claremont Gem Worth Revisiting After more than a year away, my wife and I returned to Union on Yale in Claremont--and wow, was it worth the wait. The menu features a mix of new culinary creations alongside their tried-and-true staples, all served up in a setting that blends the best of indoor comfort and outdoor charm. Bonus: the service is still as stellar as ever. Robin started with the Arugula Salad, a crisp and refreshing plate layered with crispy parmesan chips, freshly grated Grana Padano, and a bright lemon vinaigrette. Then came the showstopper: the Forest Floor pizza--a wood-fired masterpiece loaded with Hen of the Woods, Cremini, and Beech mushrooms, plus mozzarella, fontina, and black truffle cheese, with a savory sausage upgrade. Watching the team work their magic in the open pizza oven only added to the experience. Robin was in foodie heaven. I went bold with the Yellow Curry, featuring smoked "Tandoori" tofu, garbanzo beans, carrots, and wild rice in a velvety coconut curry, topped with a flourish of Fresno chilies and cilantro. I added shrimp for a little extra richness. It had just the right kick, and it was both hearty and satisfying. We're already planning our next visit--there are still so many dishes left to discover. If you're in Claremont and craving thoughtful food in a relaxed, inviting atmosphere, Union on Yale should be at the top of your list.

Salads, Soups, Pastas, and Entrees Menu (June 2025)

Five of us arrived for our 7pm Friday reservations and were seated promptly outside. Our drink orders were taken shortly after we sat down. Drinks came but my Pellegrino was forgotten until I asked about it. Our server forgot to take our food order but it was a nice evening so we just kept talking and didn't really mind. Eventually I made eye contact with her and she realized we hadn't ordered. The table shared the Arugula Salad. It was very big and definitely shareable. Then I had the Roasted Salmon while the other adults shared the Pesto Pasta and Margherita Pizza. My son had the Crack Mac. Everyone enjoyed their food while apparently the winner was the Pesto Pasta that I couldn't have. I liked the Salmon though it was slightly over cooked but delicious nonetheless. Their online menu indicated that both the Roasted Salmon and the Roasted Chicken were gluten free but they didn't note that on the menu at the restaurant. The guy who brought the dishes out to our table was very charismatic and friendly.

Eggs Benny
Samantha C.

First time going with a small group of friends for Saturday brunch. We ordered the eggs Benny, steak and eggs, and the chick club. Eggs Benny came with HOUSEMADE English muffin (so soft) and Hollandaise sauce. YUM. A little handful of arugula on the side to feel healthy. The chick club came with grilled chicken breast, thick cut fries, and a little salad. Nicely seasoned and the chicken wasn't dry at all. Can't tell you how the steak tasted since it was a friend's order but I'll tell you he was the first to clean his plate! Looked delicious. Ambiance was excellent with shaded outdoor seating. The restrooms were exceptionally clean. My only issue with the service is that they never refilled our waters and after we paid the bill we were unable to flag anyone down. Would return!

Ask the Community - Union On Yale

Is there any live entertainment on a Friday night?

Would I be able to bring my dog to this establishment?

Yes! We are dog friendly on our outside patio

Can anyone confirm a change in ownership? Any news on whether the staff and menu will remain the same?

Yes there has been a change. There are some staff staying and many leaving.

Hi I'm trying to make a reservation for a party of 8 people on your website but I don't see any availability. Is there a limit on how many can be in your party at this time?

We have 1 table that is made for a party of 8. You can make a party of 6 and request 8. We can put chairs on the end of the tables for 8 :) Hope that helps

To have dinner is that reservation only? Or can we come in on the same day for dinner without a reservation?

We do recommend reservations (uniononyale.com) but do leave a portion of our restaurant available for walk in guest :)

Do they have gluten free pizza crust?

Hello :) Thank you for reaching out. Unfortunately we do not offer a gluten free pizza crust

Do they have mimosas?

Yea but I would suggest their French 74.

Can I bring my own wine bottle, if so how much is the corkage fee?

Yes $20 corkage fee.

Not terribly inventive Mexican given what's out there in DTLA or even OC but kudos for attempts at menu expansion! I do think the guacamole is really good, the mezcal offerings are awesome, the decor is upscale and Happy Hour pricing is worthwhile. I find this restaurant very loud however. Because of that, I booked outside seating on OpenTable for Cinco de Mayo for drinks at 6:30 for 4 of us. We arrived at 6:25. We were notified that they were running behind, but still were not seated at 7... we were told there was no outdoor seatings coming up in the near future but they could honor our reservation shortly at an indoor table... but unfortunately it was club-decibel live music for the holiday so we went elsewhere. I do feel that managing holiday crowds and reservations is a reasonable expectation for a restaurant of this caliber/ price point. Recommend as a local option only but with a few caveats, not my top choice.

Unfortunately, there were a few disappointments during dinner. We ordered the crab cakes and were told they were unavailable. We then ordered lamb chops, which were also unavailable. Thankfully, the food we did receive was amazing and we were still enjoying our evening while waiting for birthday dessert. What completely changed the experience was when the manager, Destiny, approached our table and told us we needed to move to accommodate another party. We explained that we also had a reservation, were still eating, and were waiting on dessert. Instead of handling the situation professionally, her approach came off with an attitude and as though we were an inconvenience for not wanting to move in the middle of our meal. As a manager, professionalism and customer service matter, especially when guests are celebrating special occasions. Better reservation management could have prevented this situation entirely. Even other guests nearby seemed shocked by what was happening. Roger ended up apologizing on her behalf, even though he was not the issue. He truly did his best to save the experience, while the manager never came back to apologize herself. The food and our waiter were excellent, but the management experience was extremely disappointing and unprofessional.

Turns out, they actually do have a solid food menu, but no regrets--this place is all about the experience. When we walked in, the energy was already through the roof. People were vibing, singing along, and just in great moods all around. The setup is awesome--kind of like a neon-lit bar with two pianos facing each other center stage and a drummer in the middle. And let me just say, that drummer was an absolute beast. While the pianists rotated in and out, he held it down the entire time without missing a beat. Service did take a little while to get started--we waited about 15-20 minutes before anyone came by--but once they did, everything picked up and stayed consistent. The staff kept checking in and made sure we were taken care of. One thing that really stood out to me (especially coming from a hospitality background) was how they handled a situation where someone in the front row got sick. It could've easily ruined the vibe, but the staff jumped in immediately, cleaned everything thoroughly, replaced the table, and sanitized the area quickly and professionally. Super impressive. Overall, I had such a great time and would absolutely go back. Huge shoutout to the pianists--they were incredibly entertaining--and major props again to that drummer.
