From the get I had a bad feeling. We checked in for our reservation and saw three tables open. We were told it would be a 25 min wait past our reservation time and could wait outside. Mind you, it was 96 degrees but sure, why not. When I asked about the open tables, the hostess said they were taken. We were finally seated, and had mediocre service. The chilaquiles, enchiladas and tamales were never replenished when we would get up to visit the buffet. I asked for chips and salsa, and I was told "there is a buffet!" I literally grabbed tostadas to make chips. We saw the hostess cause a scene with a waiter who was trying to set-up tables for a big party, very unprofessional. Genuinely felt bad for the waiter. Then to top it off, I wish I would have known that even if you don't drink the mimosas, you're still charged the same as someone who did drink the alcohol. I've been here numerous times, and overall I've always had good experiences. The food has consistently been great, which makes today's experience even more disappointing. Our server, Yadira, provided poor service. We had a semi-large group of nine (eight adults and one child), so I understand that larger parties can take more attention, and I tried to be patient. However, we repeatedly ran out of water and had to ask other servers for refills because we rarely saw her. In fact, another server ended up taking care of our water. When we received the bill, it incorrectly listed nine adults and one child instead of eight adults and one child. We pointed out the mistake, and she corrected the guest count. She then left the check, and I planned to pay once our group had finished eating and talking. Instead, she came back twice asking if I was ready to pay while we were still eating and visiting. Shortly afterward, another employee came to our table with the card reader and asked our entire party if we were ready. We felt rushed and obligated to pay immediately, as though we were being pushed out. After I left, I realized that while the extra adult had been removed from the bill, the automatic 20% gratuity had not been recalculated. It was still based on the incorrect party size, resulting in about an $8 overcharge in gratuity. That was disappointing, especially considering the level of service we received. I'm still considering disputing that portion with my credit card company. Unfortunately, this experience has changed my opinion of the restaurant. They also rigged up two wide-screen TVs with speakers to support the additional customers. So far so good. What they forgot to add was staff. One waiter for 12 4 tops and 2 6 tops. Everyone in our section waited 1.5 hours for their food. EVERYONE. People were getting up and serving their own water. Same story in other sections. To be fair the food was very good however not even close to being worth the wait. FFS this is Southern California, good Mexican food is not difficult to find. We asked for more chips the gran babies wanted more chips and they never came. 3. It took more than 20 minutes to get ice cream for the kiddos. 4. Came on a Friday night, around 5:30 and it was surprisingly empty. There was no host but someone that appeared to be from the kitchen came to seat us. The menu options are good but we opted to try their combos so we can try different items. I had the two item with chicken flautas and chile relleno. I chose rice and black beans. I like that you can select your sides which is not usual at a Mexican restaurant. I enjoyed my meal. My friend did not enjoy her chicken enchilada because she was expecting the traditional shredded chicken but it's actually chunks of chicken. Came on a Saturday morning for brunch. First, I'll say what a pleasant surprise it was to find this here. Very nice restaurant that I didn't know existed because of its somewhat hidden location. It's off Indian Hill in Claremont, there's plenty of public parking in the structure off 1st street during this time so that was good. I was a little late attending the brunch so I had to figure things out on my own. No one really there to explain where to get foods and drinks but my fault, I was late. I decided to do the bottomless mimosas, probably shouldn't have because I only got one glass although I was there for a couple of hours. It seemed like they were getting ready for the graduation lunch rush and were more focused on that rather than those of us there. They did do a good job of cleaning the table of plates though which was nice because we were a bit tight on space. The important thing here is that the food was really good at a great price. I was impressed with the enchiladas, the omelette bar and the taco bar (which I didn't eat any of). They had lots of good options on the buffet, and if I was hungrier, I definitely would have tried more. That which I did taste was excellent. I really want to down grade them for not providing more "bottomless" drinks but I could have been more assertive since I was paying $10 more for it. Heads up...they strictly only allow one Groupon voucher per table. The Sunday buffet has a wide variety of fresh authentic Mexican food from green chicken pozole, menudo, chile colorado, chile verde, tamales, chicken fajitas, chilaquiles, rice, beans, taco station, fresh tortillas. Delicious! I was looking forward to the chicken mole but they did not have it this time around. There are varieties of shrimp like plain shrimp, green and red shrimp cocktails, and ceviche. Very fresh! There is green salad with all the trimmings to name a few. Desserts are okay. Not enough variety. It could use more. There is a chocolate fountain but not much to dip in it. There are plenty of drinks; aguas frescas, mimosas, champagne, coffee, soda, tea, etc. Great friendly attentive service. No long waits to be seated. Helps to make reservations on Yelp. Clean place! You get a free complimentary picture of your dining visit. Love it! There was a slight overcharge on the bill that I questioned. I went to Casa Maguey in Claremont for brunch on January 11, 2026, and it was an excellent experience from start to finish. We arrived around 10:30 a.m., and the restaurant was fairly empty, which made for a calm and relaxed atmosphere. We were seated right away and immediately offered bottomless mimosas. Refills were a little slow at first, but once things picked up, they were nonstop. The woman who kept our glasses full was absolutely amazing she truly made our visit top-tier with her attentiveness and great energy. Only negative which is not entirely a negative is that I kept asking for water and never would get any. Once we finally received water, getting a refill was difficult. We never got a refill on our waters. The food was authentic, flavorful, and absolutely delicious. Everything tasted fresh and well-prepared. The prices are very reasonable for the quality you get -- not overpriced at all, just great value for incredible food. I really wanted to give Casa Maguey the opportunity to make this right before posting a negative review, but after more than two months of waiting, I've run out of patience. I visited on Taco Tuesday and was charged nearly double what my bill should have been. Because the service was extremely slow and we didn't receive our check until after closing, I paid without carefully reviewing it. It wasn't until later that I looked at the receipt and realized I had been significantly overcharged. Rather than immediately disputing the charge with my credit card company, I contacted the restaurant directly. Management initially responded to my email and asked for my information, which I promptly provided. Since then, I've received no follow-up, no update, and no resolution despite waiting over two months. Mistakes happen, and I understand that. What I don't understand is the complete lack of follow-through after acknowledging the issue. Customer service doesn't end when a problem is reported--it begins there. At this point, I'll be disputing the charge through my credit card company. Unfortunately, because of how this was handled, I won't be returning. read more

We have been coming to Casa Maguey regularly for the past couple of years, whether for dinner, Sunday brunch, or just a drink at the bar. Antonio and Cielo always greet us as though we're members of their family. The food is consistently great and, in particular, the Sunday brunch is exceptional--the variety of foods is great, from Mexican classics like birria to more traditional things like omelets and bacon. I have been to Casa Maguey multiple times since they opened, but more recently I have started to frequent them. I have always found the food, the service, and the ambiance to be good, but what has officially sold me is the lunch buffet. I am not typically a buffet person, but I like that they have a nice variety of items and that they seem to switch up the menu. I particularly love that they have someone making tortillas for the taco bar, and which I ask to have with the other items. At $15.99 per person, I find that the price is also very reasonable. This is Monday to Friday. They also have a weekend buffet, but I have not yet checked that, but I suspect it's different (and has a different price). read more

We visited this restaurant expecting a nice family dinner, but unfortunately the service was disappointing from start to finish. We ordered cocktails and waters, but only the cocktails arrived. After waiting awhile, the waters finally came out -- except they still forgot the water for our toddler. The server walked away before noticing, and we had to stop him to ask again. When my fajitas arrived, the tortillas were missing. A few minutes later when the server passed by, we politely asked about them and were met with attitude and told, "They are working on it!!!" Later we ordered desserts. Mine arrived, but after another five minutes my husband's dessert still hadn't come out. When we asked again, we received more attitude instead of an apology or update. We should have looked at the most recent reviews of this restaurant before making a reservation here for my husband's birthday dinner. We made the reservation for our party based on the wonderful experience I had for my birthday brunch with friends 3 years ago. The customer service has declined since. If none of us got a beverage other than water that is our prerogative. 2.) Feeling that we were rushed to place our order. 2 of our guests had not arrived yet. Please give us time. 3.) All of the food was not brought out at the same time and 2 people in our party, including my husband, did not get their food until way later. It had to have been at least 20 minutes or more because some guests had already finished their plate when their food was brought out. This is unacceptable. 4.) Brought my brother an item he didn't order and wanted him to stick with it. We heard the server say something to the effect of "It's still good" to my brother. But that's not what he ordered. 5.) Not coming back to our table in timely intervals to check if we needed more water or anything else. I flagged our waitress down and politely asked for more water. She acknowledged my request but never brought the water. Instead I had to ask another waiter for water. 6.) We asked them to separate the checks to make checking out easier when we made the reservation and when we arrived at the restaurant. My husband told the server 3 different times that we wanted to do this before we even ordered. Our requests were ignored. Instead we did the work ourselves and put the balance on 2 separate cards. The service was sub par and I was very disappointed. I wanted to speak to the manager but decided not to. I didn't want my husband's birthday dinner to be marked with me complaining to the staff about how unhappy I was concerning what I mentioned above. Generous tips are EARNED! You have to work for it. The key word is work. We love generously tipping servers who provide superb service. That is not what we received tonight. FYI This is an Easter buffet review. No idea how they are outside this day. Waited about 20 min before we sat down. We were told its buffet day and saw the 15.99 Mon-Fri price and didn't think it was much more than double that price on a Sunday. The company I came with liked their normal menu food, so we decided to stay. Most of the food was just ok, not great. Birria was good, but came back for more and the new batch was terrible and gamey. Plantains tasted bad. The Jamaica and cucumber spinach juices were not great, and mostly watery with little flavor. The deserts were good and pancakes too. The staff were nice and took care of our water and plates fairly expediently. We did not expect that to be over 50 dollars per person. To make sure we didn't complain for no reason. We looked back where they posted their Buffett and there's nothing indicating 50+ dollars for mediocre food. Just the 15.99 and this flyer advertising the Sunday Buffett and that had no price on it. We felt very misled and let them know, and to their credit, understood the situation and gave us a discount. That said- "Ok" food shouldn't cost a tank of gas, and if so then they should post that jump in price anywhere on their restaurant. read more

Decided to finally try this spot for Sunday brunch, we were sat outside almost immediately. Our waitress Tiffany took our drink orders and welcomed us to the buffet. Here's what I tried, menudo (delicious), pozole verde (spicy, really good flavor), chile verde carne (one of my favorites not too spicy), chilaquiles (I really liked them they weren't crispy or too spicy but still really good), chicken green tamale (it was okay I'm not a fan of tamales though), carnitas and shrimp tacos (really good but the shrimp was the best. Their desserts were all really really good especially the brownies. The only thing I didn't like was the agua frescas, they were too sweet. All the staff were super friendly but Tiffany was amazing! But then, things fell apart: * My glass of wine didn't arrive until 45 minutes later, while other cocktails trickled out after 30 minutes. * When I politely asked about my wine, I was treated as if I was being unreasonable. * Our food order wasn't taken until almost another 30 minutes later, and only after we flagged down our server. The process felt rushed and careless, with no apologies for the delays. * Meals arrived in 15-20 minute intervals, so half the table was eating while the rest were still waiting. Staff repeatedly asked people what they had ordered--sometimes 3 or 4 times. * When we began to express our frustration, the wait staff actually tried to guilt us into not complaining. It was surreal. By this point, we had been sitting there for two hours with little service, and only then did water finally start being refilled. Suddenly the server was at our table every 10 minutes, which only made the earlier neglect feel worse. Again, the food itself was excellent, but the service was so disorganized, dismissive, and even guilt-inducing that it completely ruined the experience.
