Unfortunately, I found a roach in my salad, which completely ruined the meal and raised serious concerns about cleanliness and food safety. What made the situation worse was the customer service afterward. The young lady with green hair was snippy and dismissive instead of being helpful or apologetic. This was my second time visiting this Mexican restaurant in Claremont, and the food was just as good as I remembered! I ordered the chicken fajitas, and my friend had the chicken enchiladas. Both dishes came with rice and beans, and everything was flavorful and served hot. The fajitas were sizzling and well-seasoned, and the enchiladas were cheesy and delicious. We also had a strawberry iced tea/lemonade drink that was really refreshing. And I have to mention the chips and salsa -- they were so good we ate quite a bit! Our waiter, Andres, was very attentive. He kept checking on us, made sure we had refills, and kept the chips coming. Great service really adds to the experience, and he did an excellent job. The atmosphere is beautiful. We sat inside, but the outdoor patio looked amazing -- with fire pits, lights, and people enjoying the evening. It had such a relaxing, lively vibe. After a sunny day of hiking over in the Icehouse Canyon trail, we decided to go for a late lunch. Understandably since it was the Fourth of July, not a lot of places were open. Once we were downhill and signal was available, we did a quick search and made a few calls. A woman picked up and told us they were opened, so we made a beeline here, since we were both exhausted and famished. We started off with a tortilla soup which had a colorful mix of tortilla chips, avocados, squash, and chicken, a nice starter. We also split their plate of fajitas which came with fresh tortillas, rice, beans, salsa, and guacamole. As a thirst quencher, we had a glass of homemade jamaica. The meal was delicious and satisfying, and our waitress was friendly and conversational. We were one of two or three tables eating that hour. I remembered the waitstaff who had been serving everyone sat down a few tables from us and had an order of sushi for herself, more than likely from the restaurant next door. I used a gps app to get us here which tried to take me around the same block twice. However once I got there we were very pleased. It's a very quaint restaurant but the food was good and the service was fantastic. My Son said he had the best chicken Strips of his life. Extra well done and extra crispy fries without even asking that he completely loved. As he ordered off the kids menu. My boys also loved the large Glass Cokes. I had a trio combination plate. Oh Elvira's... We used to love getting food from here, but the last time we ordered food for takeout they got my dish wrong. I ordered shrimp fajitas and got shrimp, steak and chicken instead. An employee (Millie) told us over the phone they'd refund the transaction, which never occurred. Millie was pleasant to deal with and tried to resolve our issue, I personally think it was the manager that was dodging us or not wanting to credit (or even remake) our order. After calling 3x, the manager continuously ghosted us until the transaction was disputed on the credit card. The manager said since it was disputed it was handled by the credit card company now. If the manager didn't want to refund it from the beginning, then she her employees should not advise customers that they be refunded. (Unless the staff is just saying that to appease customers who complain and then intentionally not following through with the refund.) The 1 portion of shrimp I ate was fine. The suizas ordered tasted fine but were also partially wrong and had some kind of brown sauce in one of them. We've been eating here a long time. The manager tried to save face by talking about how the ingredients could've caused the sauce to turn brown is a cop out. The suizas never had brown sauce, ever. The rice and beans were "meh" on this order. Sometimes the beans and rice are really good, this was not one of them. read more

Corona beer W/ lime. Tasty. First time having a guava margarita. ( Delicious ) Guava Wine margarita on the rocks. " Big " Our waitress saw that we were out of chips & salsa our waitress said this twice. " I will get you more chips and salsa", then she went to two more tables and She took their orders before getting us chips & salsa. Still waiting for chips & salsa. 20 minutes later our chips & salsa came with our entrees. * Tip: If you want patrons to order more drinks, keep serving chips & salsa. Entrees: My husband ordered the Carne Asada burrito. The carne Asada was chopped into tiny pieces there wasn't anything to chew. Burrito was damp not what I call a wet burrito. Rice OK. I had the Enchiladas Rancheras with Rice & beans . The Enchiladas rancheros is suppose to have meat and cheese, My Rancheras only had shredded meat NO cheese. Dry, cold, NO Sauce. My husband inquired to our waitress Lorena M. Is the Enchiladas Rancheras suppose to come with meat and cheese ? Lorena said " I do not know " I said yes the Enchiladas Rancheras are suppose to have shredded meat and cheese. I showed Lorena M, my enchiladas and they didn't have any cheese! She asked us 3 times Do you want anything else ? No thank you. OK I will bring your check. Once we ordered our drinks. The friendliness of the staff seemed to disappear quickly. Waters had no ice, lemon wedges were old and tired. I couldn't squeeze any juice out. Server did not come by and check on us once our entrees came, she did check on the two tables in front of us often. Enchiladas Rancheras were: No seasoning, no salt, No Flavor!, Cold, dry, and no cheese. Rice was barely look warm. Carne Asada burrito was ok not big, not wet, the meat was chopped into tiny tiny pieces, too small to know you were biting into meat.! Waitress not warm and not knowledgeable on what's in the entrees like cheese in the Enchiladas Rancheras. Never asked to refire, or ask the kitchen staff. The restaurant had very few patrons at 5:15 PM. No reason for slow or lack of good service.!! Our server slammed the kitchen with taking 3 more tables orders and everything came out at the same time. Which will change the quality of the food. This restaurant gets busy around 5:30 PM. The restaurant is loud!! We were so excited to come here, left deflated.! Extremely casual.!! My family came here to celebrate a birthday on friends recommendation and we are so glad we came! It's in an unassuming strip mall, the inside is cute and not too big inside but they were able to see our party of eight in a Sunday for lunch. Our server Veronica was the best and so funny! The prices were not bad at all for the quality and quantity of food that you get, along with fabulous service! Now about the food... The Tableside Guacamole was excellent and ran out way too fast! The complementary chips and salsa are addicting. I had the Flautas de Pollo which was really good. The chicken is mixed with green chili peppers making it super flavorful. I loved the beans and rice too. And I hardly like any restaurant Mexican rice. My husband loved the grilled steak fajitas. My brother is vegan and said he loved their spinach enchiladas. He even liked the zucchini they add in it. He also said their homemade Jamaica was delicious. The group also had a #1combo of taco enchilada, grilled chicken breast wrap and a California Chimi. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their meals. I saved the best for last and shared a deep fried ice cream. It was absolutely delicious and I highly recommend it. The first time we went, the food was so good. We went a couple years later and it tasted basic. Like something you'd by at a restaurant that features other food but also sells Mexican. I don't know if the sold or if they just go with cheaper ingredients but I wasn't impressed this round. Well it's been nearly a week and no phone call or refund as promised by the manager, who stated that she had my phone number and would contact the owner to issue a refund. I also provided the last four digits of my credit card. Based on the above, the twice repeated errors in the fulfillment of our orders and failure to remedy them properly, and the fact that the manager lied to me twice, we will not return to this restaurant. It is unfortunate because we have been long time customers. But when you don't receive the food you paid for, and then are lied to about the reparations made, why would you continue to spend your money there? read more

He's prompt, friendly, and the love he has for people and his job, shows through and through. I've visited Elvira's for the past 9 years and I'm pretty sure I've tried most things on the menu. Came in on a Friday night was greeted immediately after waking in by 4 or 5 employees. All with a smile and looked truly happy to see us I must say. The Christmas decor and the sweaters they were all wearing was very nice to say the least. They were very crowded but wait time wasn't bad at all. Once seated the waitress was very nice and quick. She recommended the fajitas for me and I must say they were delicious good portions with rice beans on the side also! My girlfriend ordered the flautas and from the small bite I got to taste I can say they were amazing also! Great place for lunch and for party of 10. Came here with a bunch of my co-workers and they were able to seat us all. Cozy dining area with comfy booths and well decorated. I ordered the Cali Chimichanga, it was a nice size and cooked very well served with a side of guacamole and crema. My co worker ordered the carne asada plate and it looked so good, I will order that the next time I come. I would order the spicy guacamole that is prepared for you table side, it's delicious and it couldn't get more fresh than that! I'm sure their alcohol drinks are good because they looked so refreshing but we were technically on the clock, I'll make sure to get one nextime. We arrived 3PM day before Mothers Day expecting a big wait were surprised to be seating in 10 minutes on the outside patio next to beautiful fountain. The Mothers Day menu was great. Great food! The prices are reflected in the quality of the food. I'm glad that they adjusted well to inflation. They passed a small amount of the cost to consumers but they Did NOT give up on the QUALITY of their food. Some of my other favorite places went with buying cheaper food products so not to raise prices. BUT... they gave up quality and the food TASTE... suffered. From my 7 favorite Latino restaurants, there are only 4 that I would go back to. Coco Palms was at the top of my list, but now it is at the bottom of my list. Where should I being. The food is delicious. The service there, on the other hand is a hit or miss. For some reason, the male server there is unprofessional. After we were done with our meal he asked us for a 18% tip. He didnt even want to do his job. We had to ask other servers passing by for refills. The male cook, hates his job and it shows. We got take out recently and he didn't want to add rice to our meal instead of beans. He was taking his sweet time until an other cook stepped in and served the rice. The chicken flautas come with cotija cheese when we dine there. But when we get take out they don't and when we ask for it, they get upset. read more

First time trying this place. It had what I thought was a good rating but I should have read the reviews. I ordered online and went to pick up the order. My problem was after picking up the food I sat to eat my food with my sisters. They both loved their dishes. One sister got the asada burrito and the other got the mole enchiladas. I ordered myself the chicken flautas. I was really disappointed to bite into the my first flauta and pull out a piece of thread? I'm not entirely sure what it was and my second disappointment was to find some type of pepper in the flautas with the chicken. As in the menu is states "chicken filling" not "chicken and pepper" filling or flour tortillas filled with chicken and poblano/bell pepper. We have been ordering the enchiladas suizas & shrimp fajitas for at least a decade. This last order was completely wrong: shrimp,chicken, & beef fajitas/ enchiladas suizas had some clumps of brown sauce inside with the chicken. Millie advised me next day, they will credit my card. 6 days passed & nothing. I ended up calling 3X asking for manager. I kept getting told she's away. I disputed the transaction with my card. Right after that, I get a voicemail from manager Jackie. It was pointless because Jackie responds by talking about their fresh ingredients which could turn the sauce into a different shade of color, etc., etc. People just apologize & not take accountability for their mistakes. I tell this person I live in the high desert now, but because I have been a loyal customer for at least the past decade, I still drive down the mountain (an hour away without traffic) to support their business. There is no customer service whatsoever. I believe in Karma & it definitely goes around. Because I filed a dispute after repeated attempts to resolve this with them, Jackie says, I can't do anything now that you filed it. It's laughable that this person has no customer service skills whatsoever. In time, you will fail your business. At this point, it's about the Principle of it, the $47.67 is inconsequential. That's another thing, Elvira's lost some loyal customers over their own mistake that they could have easily fixed - a ticket under $50. Max's Mexican Cuisine in Azusa has much better tasting dishes, excellent customer service, & the ambiance is lively. Try Max's of Azusa - the restaurant itself also is brighter & cleaner.
