I went here today for the first time in a long time, and I was really looking forward to it because I've always loved this place. The food was amazing and the prices were very fair, but unfortunately, the customer service completely ruined the experience. The woman taking the drive-through orders was extremely rude from the beginning. While I was ordering, she kept rushing me and seemed irritated for no reason. When I got to the window, I asked to add one more item to my order, and that seemed to make her even more upset. She immediately started yelling at the other employees, telling them to hurry up because "this lady needs her food." I had literally only been sitting at the window for maybe one or two minutes, and there was only one car behind me, so I'm not sure why she was acting as if I was causing some huge inconvenience. Her attitude toward me was rude and unnecessary, but what bothered me even more was the way she spoke to the other employees. No employee should have to be yelled at or spoken down to like that, especially in front of customers. I asked for her name, and I believe she said Jesse, Jess, or Jessica. I couldn't hear clearly. She had very short grayish hair. I don't know if she was having a bad day or what the issue was, but there is no excuse for treating customers and coworkers that way. I genuinely love the food here and would absolutely come back because of the food and prices, but management really needs to address the way this employee speaks to people. My family and I regularly visit other locations, where we consistently receive excellent customer service and quality food. Unfortunately, our experience at this location sucked. On Sunday, 7/5/26, at approximately 5:45 p.m., we ordered chili cheese fries with pastrami. When I went to pick up our order, the female employee who handed us the food was unnecessarily rude. I politely asked for four forks, and she gave me only two. I politely asked again for two more, and she handed me just one. When I asked again, she simply walked away, ignored us, and stopped assisting us altogether. She was the only female employee working at that time, making it easy to identify the individual involved. To make matters worse, we discovered that we were overcharged. The amount on our receipt did not match the amount charged to our credit card. That is unacceptable and reflects poorly on the business. Customers should carefully review both their receipts and their credit card statements to ensure they are charged correctly. One additional observation is that my family and I were the only Asian customers in what appeared to be a predominantly White establishment, both among the staff and the clientele. I sincerely hope our treatment and the billing discrepancy were unrelated to our race, but it is an observation I made. Based on this experience, we will not be returning to this location. Always a yummy selection to eat at when in the area! I brought my husband and co workers some lunch and they were fast efficient and got my order right! I ordered 6 pastrami sandwiches which is hands down the best pastrami sandwiches ever a chilis dog, chili cheese fries and a hot dog with a large fry they didn't miss one item and had my food ready extremely fast! Really disappointing experience tonight. I got to the drive-thru around 12:55 AM. They close at 1 AM, but when I arrived I was told they were already closed and that they only had fries left. I ended up ordering chili cheese fries and asked for peppers, but was told they had already put them away. On top of the poor customer service, I got my food and the cheese wasn't even melted on the fries. If you're open until 1 AM, customers arriving before closing shouldn't feel like an inconvenience because everything has already been put away. I grew up going to the original location. Today I thought I would try this location. The same great food. was warmly greeted upon entry. order placed and delivered sooner than expected. The outside was very clean along with the inside seating areas.The pastrami was overflowing. One of the things I noticed and liked is the bread is NOT heavy or filling. I paid $21 for a steak sandwich, small fries and a medium drink, and unfortunately it was not worth the price. The fries were soggy, and the steak sandwich had no flavor. The meat was more gray than nicely browned, and I honestly don't think there was much, if any, seasoning on it. The sandwich was basically steak, mayo and shredded lettuce since I asked them to leave off the onions. The lettuce also had an unpleasant smell that made me question how fresh it was. I don't know what caused the smell, but it definitely wasn't appealing. I'm not looking for huge portions. I'm perfectly happy paying for a reasonably sized meal when the food is cooked properly, seasoned well and tastes good. At $21 for this lunch, I expected considerably better quality. You lost a 25 year customer today. I would implore you all to not patronize The Hat. You will have to open and inspect the toppings on every single item before leaving the parking lot to make sure it's right, so what's the point in using a drive through? Stupid me for just checking that I had 4 burgers tonight, and not unwrap them to check them individually. When I got home I find out that every single one was wrong. I had hungry kids so I tried to scrape off and salvage when I could to get them eating, and then drove all the way back to get it made fixed. When I asked to speak to a manager, apparently there is no manager there in the evenings, I told the woman who came to the counter that every single burger was wrong and showed her the receipt. She asked what was wrong about them, so I started going down the list and she never offered to remake it the right way or really offered any remedy so I said just refund the whole thing if you're not going to even offer to make it right. If I have to do your quality check, and unwrap every item to scrutinize it, I would rather just not give your restaurant my business. I tried to get in touch with their corporate office and they have not responded in a week. Looks like the whole thing is going downhill since Corky passed away. What a shame. read more

Let me start by saying, I love the food and that is not what gets a 3 star review. What earned the 3 stars is the service. I am local and have been to this location in three different instances where I drive up to the drive thru from 15 minutes - 10 minutes before closing time and I have been told there is either no food except fries and pastrami, no yellow peppers or simply closed. If closing time is at 1am, then you should serve any customer that shows up until 12:59pm like every other establishment. I understand the employees want to start cleaning up the kitchen before closing so they can leave right away, but that is not good business practice. Change the closing time to 12:45 if you are going to continue to do this. read more

Last night, while I was out with some buddies in Upland we decided to stop by The Hat for a late dinner! The place wasn't too packed when we arrived and I ordered the Chili Fries with Pastrami on top. The food took about 10 mins to prepare and I have to say I was not dissapointed by the size and the taste. The dish was massive and definitely meant for more than 1 person. The customer service sucks and they couldn't even do half no cheese on our chill cheese fries so I can share them with someone who can't eat cheese. The one in rancho is so much better, always super nice and always accommodates us, no problem. The lady working drive through is so rude when we asked for chilies too. I recommend you do not use the drive thru service. The last 5 times I've used it my order has been completely wrong. By the 2nd time I had to rifle through the bag of greasy hot food only to discover that my order was wrong again. If they can't get it right why offer a drive through service. Always a great time here! I love The Hat and their pastrami dip sandwiches. This is my go-to and I also like getting small fries and chili on the side and dipping rather than getting a small chili cheese fries because their portions are MASSIVE! Inside is always clean and comfortable and it's nice that they have late hours and a drive through option. I only interact with the staff when placing and receiving my order, but never had an issues here and everyone has always been friendly. Only thing I'm bummed about is the prices have gone up a bit and I've noticed the size/pastrami has gone down for the sandwich. Got my cup & dispensed Diet Coke to pair with my burger & Hubby's pastrami burger. We sat at a booth while more customers piled in to order. Within minutes, our food gets called out & Hubby picks it up, packaged in brown paper bags. The fries were piping hot & plentiful-although needed some seasoning, but good. My burger was messy as hell but tasted pretty good. Hubby's pastrami was good and he said it might be the best in California. I love the food, service & atmosphere :) They have "World Famous Pastrami" in addition to more sandwiches & burgers plus you can get pastrami and/or gravy on pretty much everything :) :) :) I had the Roast Beef Sandwich w/ gravy & my Son had the Pastrami, we shared an order of Gravy Fries :) :) :) Everything was so good & fresh from the rolls to the meat and especially the gravy!! This is an old school style diner for sure in both the menu choices & décor. The kitchen is open so you can watch them making you meal which I think is fun :) The staff is friendly but quick and efficient. The dining room is large and clean, they also have some outdoor seating and a drive thru. The large parking lot is clean and well lit.
